The Life and Times of Every Sundevil
March 18, 2006
#6 - Epilogue...
Mood:  chillin'
I finished my thesis in time! I can finally graduate with honors, and it's in large part due to all the hours I put in studying over the years. I never though all those all-nighters would pay off (in anything but exhaustion!), but I finally made it. I guess the take home message from this would be: Don't let your "good deeds" in life - whether that's studying, working, or doing actual good deeds - get buried by all the other stuff. Because sure, partying and hanging out with friends and, well, sin in general is really fun, if you let your good deeds fall by the wayside, you can get into some pretty scary situations. So, for Every Sundevil, it's goodbye ASU, hello world!

***Disclaimer***
This is a project for HON 171 - The Human Event - at Arizona State University, put together by TJ Claassen, Mike Lee, and Cassie Peterson. Every Sundevil is a fictitious person, made up to "modernize" Everyman. Most of the people and situations in this blog series have been exaggerated or made up entirely. Hope you enjoyed!

#5 - IHOP IS MY SAVIOR
Mood:  happy
This has to be short - I'm sitting in the IHOP study lounge, sucking down coffee and finishing the last of the corrections to my thesis. I never really thought those other times I studied here would help, but I'm able to concentrate here better than practically anywhere else. I guess all my concentration skills were being held back by partying and friends and the numerous distractions of the world... anyway, I'm almost done, and then I'm going to go turn it in. Wish me luck!

#4 - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRGH!
Mood:  rushed
Oh. My. Gosh. I'm dead. Yeah, you know that whole thing about waking up at 9 this morning? Well, it is now 4 in the afternoon, and I just woke up. Meaning, I have less than 8 hours to submit my thesis. CRAP ON A STICK. I can't be here right now. Between my roommate, my floormates, my Ipod, and movies, I'll never get anything done! What am I gonna do?

#3 - Me and my amazing lack of self-control
Mood:  incredulous
So, right after I decided to crack down and work on my thesis, my roommate came back with a *ahem* visitor. Long story short, I was "sexiled" from my room. I was sitting in the laundry room minding my own business, paper strewn everywhere, when John, another one of my floormates came in. "What are you doing?" He asked. Duh. As if that wasn't obvious. "Thesis," I grunted in reply. He gave a knowing "Ah" and then proceeded to start reading my thesis. Which was cool, I guess, since extra eyes always help. Then he saw how in depth the corrections were, and he bailed on me. "Gotta fold my laundry" he said. Uh-huh, considering it's only been in the dryer for 7 minutes. Whatever. Then Matt (another one of my floormates) came in, and asked if I wanted to watch the Godfather. I said I'd never seen it, and he basically told me I had to in order to consider myself a human being. So I went into Matt's room and proceeded to watch 175 minutes of New York Mob goodness. Then, of course, we had to watch part II... and part III.... by the time I got out of there, it was 3:30 am and I was exhausted. I collected my stuff out of the laundry room, decided to post this, and now I'm going to crash. I'll just set my alarm for 9 tomorrow morning and work on my thesis some more. Deadline: 21 hours and counting!

#1 - Woo, Hangover!
Mood:  don't ask
Man, am I hungover! O.o Anyway, I must've been thinking about my thesis last night, cuz I woke up with "THESIS" written backward on my forehead in sharpie. Or maybe that was my friends having a little fun with me after I passed out... oh well, at least it doesn't say something stupid, like "BALLS."
So, I decided to check my email this morning. Actually, it was more like this afternoon since I didn't wake up until noon, but whatever. There was an email from Mark Jacobs, "Honors Thesis Deadline." I looked in the mirror again and decided that it would be a good idea to read it. The darn thing was at least 2 pages long... what is it with the administration and long emails? Anyway, the gist of it was that I have to turn in my honors thesis by 8 pm on Sunday. No sweat. It's only Friday, and I have a good chunk of it done. Or so I thought. I have a rough copy, but my advisor put in so many revisions! I think he may as well have dyed the paper red. But it can't be too hard to make corrections, right? Although, corrections to 42 pages might take a while. At least I have all weekend. Well, I suppose I should go off and do that now. Later!

#2 - Three hours later...
Mood:  d'oh
So I lied. Three hours later, and all I've been doing is updating my Facebook and listening to my Ipod. But I've come to the conclusion that I can't do homework and "poke" people at the same time, so I'm going to focus on my thesis for now. After all, I guess it's more important than people knowing exactly what movies are my favorites right this second.... I guess.
Although, I did finally see some pictures that jogged my memory of the party last night... I'm actually tempted to get a CAT scan just to make sure I still have a liver. I think I consumed as much water as is in Tempe Town Lake... except this water was golden and foamy, and gave me this light-headed sort of feeling. Well, I can at least justify it by saying that I've been under a lot of stress lately because of this stupid thesis. Michael Crow is looming over it all, his supreme "new american university"-ness, and then Mark Jacobs is acting..well... kind of like the Grim Reaper. Spooky.
