The Anambra State University of Technology was established by Law on
30th day of July, 1980, and on December 2, 1985 the University Law of
1980 was repealed and replaced with the ASUTECH Edict 1985. on December 1,
1988 ASUTECH Edict of 1985 was repealed and replaced with ASUTECH Edict No. 9 which established the Anambra State University of Technology
Collegiate system. In 1991 the ASUTECH Edict No. 9 was again repealed and
the Enugu State University of Science and Technology came into
existence. Four hundred pioneer students were admitted into the University on 30th
October,
1980. The colourful official opening and First Matriculation Ceremony
of the University took place on 2nd May, 1981.
Initially, all the students attended classes in Enugu Campus of the
University. On 3rd January, 1981, one hundred students moved to the Awka
Campus of the University. In February 1987, Nnewi and Abakaliki Campus
were opened.
Objectives
Some of the major objectives of the founding fathers of this
university are:
- To encourage the advancement of learning by providing an opportunity
of acquiring higher education in Science, Engineering and Technology to
all persons irrespective of race, creed, sex or political conviction.
- To make it possible for scientists, researchers, industries, trades
and other bodies and individual to benefit from scientific and
technological knowledge and inventions, and
- To encourage maximum exploitation of our local resources for the
development of our Technologies and technical skills designed to solve the
nation’s social, economic and other related problems.
Esut Permanent Site Project
The State Government is stopping at nothing to achieve a record time completion of the permanent site of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUTECH) by the end of first quarter of 2006. Already, work has reached advanced stage with some structures like the 100 units one bedroom flats for junior staff and 56 units three bedroom bungalows for intermediate staff completed.
The university village is located on four communities: Agbani, Obe, Amuri and Umueze. It is about 10 minutes drive from Enugu metropolis.
The state of art project will house the following:
- 4 units 4,000 bed hostel blocks with ensuite facilities.
- 100 units one-bedroom flats for junior staff.
- 56 units 3 bedroom bungalows for intermediate staff.
- 35 units professor's duplexes.

- Main cafeteria complex
- 15 faculty building
- An administrative block
- Stadium
- Library
- Auditorium
- Guest House
