Pieces of code attached to common program, such as a popular game or word processor.
Can be downloaded from an infected game onto their computer.
virus loads into the memory, infects the memory and looks for other programs to infect.
This gave a virus a much more effective way to replicate itself.

Boot Sector Virus
The boot sector contains a tiny program that tells the computer how to load the rest of the operating system.
By putting it's code on the sector, virus can guarantee it's executed.
It can load itself into the computer's memory immediatley.
Able to run whenever comptuer is on.

E-mail Virus A.K.A "Melissa Virus"
The latest virus in the computer world.
A virus is created as a word document and then uploaded into an internet newsgroup.
When this document is downloaded it triggers the virus.
The virus sends itself in an e-mail to the first 50 people in the person's address book.
The e-mail will include the person's name to trick the recipient into opening it.
Melissa Virus was the fastest spreading virus ever seen!
