Navy Days
Vern Nicholson

The day I boarded ship,
What a mess; about to trip ...

In dry-dock, lines to and fro,
Redoing all; the moth-balls go.

I was first on ship, of 25 or more.
The new ship mates, upon the shore.

No place to sleep, eat, or shower;
No engines running, and no power ...

We worked, cleaned, and painted for many days.
Each day, to this work; that and Navy ways.

One of the best things, I remember, today,
Was the church services; preaching Christ, The Way.

Life, aboard ship, was good to me.
But life, in Christ, is greater you see.
