BUILDING DEEP SPACE NINE
WHY BUILD THIS MODEL?
This isn't easy to answer.... One reason is because it hasn't been done before! and besides it will be a challenge for me and to show Star Trek fans around the world this highly detailed replica of the DS9 station which will be fitted with interior and exterior lighting, a runabout, a docked Defiant, camera views of detailed interior, and a docked Galor class Cardassian warship. It goes back to 2001 although I don't consider myself a "Trekkie" or "Trekker" I will try to explain it.
In 1992 when Deep space nine first aired I really didn't care for the pilot episode so I didn't watch the show until some years later I seen an episode here and there but I did watch the first 3 seasons of Voyager when it aired and then stopped, mainly because the shows moved to a television network my area didn't carry. So in 2001 DS9 has already ended and so has Voyager but a friend who I knew liked Star Trek would come over and argue about which show was better, I would say Voyager and he would argue DS9 so he brought some episodes that he recorded over and one night we watched several hours of DS9 and I finally got to see how it ended and how Voyager ended, I will say DS9's final episode was disappointing because it left uncertainty as to the fate of Sisko and what I mean by uncertainty is Sisko says he would return like as if the producers are implying that the show would resume sometime in the future, 7 years later it has not. So back to the topic... my friend loaned me his video tapes and he had about 50 or so episodes and I will say this I WAS HOOKED! so when they came to DVD I bought each season and have watched them many times and I have always like the look of the DS9 station and thought wow! it would be cool to build one so I bought the 16" model and built it and it wasn't big enough so I did some research on the size model used in filming for the series and I have talked with Rick Sternbach on several occasions regarding the filming model and he gave me some good information about it and I went from there by collecting images and any info I could find regarding the DS9 model so here it is 2006 and my research is complete and I will attempt to make a replica of the filming model which is 6ft in diameter and this is the size I would like to build and as a avid modeler I know it can be done and it will be done.
I get asked by many people to post my plans on this site but the files are HUGE and would take up most of my file space because this site is hosted for free I am only allowed a certain amount of space and I will need this space to post pictures and video of the model and besides why would I give away information that took many hours and time away from family to post for free??? if you want a set of these model plans email me and we can go from there, you can either buy a CD for $14.00 with the files on them or the actual set of plans for $60.00 which are 15 sheets that measure 24" X 36". I don't use paypal so please don't ask me "do you take paypal?" because I don't and won't they have ridiculous fees and I don't sell enough stuff to use paypal to begin with keep in mind this is a hobby for me and not a business if you want to know more about buying some parts to build your own model when they come available or plans for this model go here.
