Decadence And Ignorance

Welcome!

Welcome to the online home of the show Decadence & Ignorance! Decadence & Ignorance is the brainchild of Stephen Grebinski and Nathalie Lawrence.

The idea for the show stemmed from the best friends’ Halloween costumes. Hearing that Nathalie had a tri cornered hat, and a song on a local Pittsburgh radio station that made several references to Richard Hennessy, he decided to dress as famous cognac distiller Richard Hennessy. Nathalie, trying to work off of this theme, made a few phone calls and decided to dress up as Emmanuel Courvoisier.

Instead of frat parties or trick or treating, the two decided to simply live out their lives in public for a while—going to the grocer, the filling station, and, of course, to a very nice dinner at a moderately priced chain restaurant.

While contemplating the reactions of the public to the sight of their costumes, the two pondered what other situations would look hilarious with these two men in contemporary society—Pittsburgh society to be exact. Thus the concept for Decadence & Ignorance was born.

Hennessy and Courvoisier, who must flee the Cognac region of France, find themselves in Pittsburgh, and somehow in the modern day. Hilarity and mayhem ensues due to their ignorance of modern times and their decadent lifestyles.

Hennessy and Courvoisier have a meeting with Hennessy’s cousin, Waterford, who promises to design and make hundreds of Waterford crystal bottles for the pair’s cognac. However, when they return, they are being thrown out of their estate, which was given to them by Napoleon, due to an accident caused by a judgment in error by Hennessy. The two must flee France, and by chance, move to Pittsburgh, much to their dismay. While there, they attempt to locate lodgings that are suitable for gentleman of their stature. Mayhem ensues as they attempt to adjust to life in modern day Pittsburgh. How will they deal with democracy? Equal rights for all classes? Finding a suitable place to live? Property rights?
