Type: Spiral Galaxy

Constellation: Canes Venatici

Distance: 37 Million Lys

Notes: Known also as the "Whirlpool Galaxy", this galaxy is a face on spiral with another galaxy (irregular) on the end of one of 51's spiral arms.

Optical Equipment: 16" Meade LX200 GPS 

Exposure time: 2 Min

Additional notes: I took this picture just before shutting down the observatory one night as clouds were on the increase. Usually I'm taking pictures of galaxies far far beyond this one but I decided I had time to nab a shot of 51 before closing down on this night.
