| The garden is in full bloom even in October. Walk straight through the garden to the swimming pool, but the beach is much closer. Other outside views include the 2 lower balconies, 1 master bedroom balcony with roof accessible staircase. Greet the sun with breakfast outside the kitchen and tea on your bedroom balcony! BBQ with the sun setting, then watch the stars from the roof and the moon crossing the clear sky while cool ocean winds gently blow across your skin. Very Quiet. | ||||||||||||

Several of the boats at the marina offer day-tours of the area. They basically take you out and let you jump in the water. One of the best places we stopped was at this deserted cove with a stony beach. The stones I picked up there were some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. They were a rainbow of colors: reds, greens, browns, purples, oranges, yellows. Many had three or more colors. I can't recall a place I've ever collected rocks, but I was stuffing them in my pocket here. Anyway, the water around Datça is cold, even in July. To the west, the water was much warmer. But the current apparently moves more swiftly around here, and that accounts for the water temperatures. The boat excursion was a nice way to get out. Knidos is located at around 30km from Datca at the end of the peninsula. The road goes through high mountains covered by beautiful forests, interrupted by small turquoise bays and finishes in Knidos The last part of it is unpaved, twisty and so narrow that we've been pretty sure that our biggest luck was that our car was small otherwise it was practically impossible to arrive to Knidos. Although is not such a long distance, due to roads conditions it takes about an hours to arrive to Knidos from Datca. It is said that Knidos was built for the most beautiful Goddess, Aphrodite, on the most beautiful peninsula. Originally the "old" Knidos had been founded on the location of the modern town of Datca, but around 360 BC Knidos moved on the tip of the Datca Peninsula. Some of the famous persons who lived and worked in Knidos are the famous mathematician and philosopher Eudoxos, the sculptor Praxiteles, Skopas and Bryaxis and the architect
Sostrates, the designer of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Lighthouse of Alexandria. Very much a locals market. The fruit and veg stalls are piled high with fresh, brightly coloured produce. The aroma from the spice stalls entices you to buy all manner of spices at a fraction of what you'd pay in UK. Turkish Delight (Lokkum) in a variety of flavours, which you'll be encouraged to try before you buy. Nuts, salted and plain, again try before you buy! Clothing, household linens, watches (genuine fake designer!!) for about a fiver!, leather bags, belts and wallets. CD's (mainly Turkish pop and folk) wooden goods. Haggle over prices, some goods are fixed price, but if you're buying more than 1 item, ask if theres a discount. Good photo opportunities in the food part. It can get hot here, walking around. Saturday is market day for Datca, when the back streets are draped with awnings and lined with tables piled high with merchandise. Entering the fray is a bit intimidating at first...the jostling, haggling and bustling...funny money changing hands...with everyone babbling in a strange language! But after a short stroll you'll realise most of what's on sale are knock-off Western designer gear plus bras, shoes and housewares which quickly become monotonous. For Greeks though it is a motherlode and those on the daytrip with us came back with rugs, winter clothes and even wood stoves, bookshelves and cabinets. It was interesting to see the fruit and veg stalls, where women wearing colourful head scarves are eager to share samples of their produce. The spices, nuts and cheeses were all enticing to taste if a little impractical for tourists to pack home. We hardly saw any other Westerners but the merchants were quick to offer English greetings and announce the prices of their goods, which you are expected to haggle over. The best shopping for tourists is on the street near the marina. DATCA & KNIDOS The Carians settled in south western part of Anatolia, between the Menderes River and Köycegiz Lake and named this area as Caria. The Datça Peninsula was also located within these borders, and today it's in the Aegean region of Turkey. After the Turkish Republic (1923) was founded the Peninsula regained its old name of "Datça". Today Datça is a district of the province Mugla. Some of the important sights to visit in Datça are: The mosque in Hizirsah village was inherited from the Seljuks period. It has been restored and is well worth seeing. Eski Datça (Old Datça, 4 km) with beautiful old stone houses, holiday and permanent residences of many Europeans and Turks, is showing typical architecture of the area. Regular bus services are available. Cnidus was famous for its naked statue of Aphrodite. Kizlan and its windmills, which have become a symbol for Datça, is worth visiting. There are the remains of some ceramic manufactures between Old Datça and Hizirsah village thought to have been worked during the 4th century BC. CNIDOS (Cnidus): Famous as a center of art and culture in the fourth century B.C., Cnidos was established at the same time that Halicarnassus was, as one of the six Dorian colonies in Asia Minor. It seems to have kept a purer Greek character, no doubt because it set its sights seaward and had little contact with the interior. Around 360 BC, the city was rebuilt at the windblown tip of the peninsula, banking on the fact that a good harbor at the outer corner of Asia Minor would become a popular calling-port for ships on the Aegean - East Mediterranean transit routes. The rocky island facing the shore at the new site was joined to the mainland with a causeway, creating two deep harbors on either side of the isthmus. One on the Aegean and the other on the Mediterranean The island section held the residential quarters, a series of colonnaded walkways rose in tiers on the land side. Two large theaters, an odeon and three temples completed what must have been a striking ensemble in the midst of a desolate crag. The remains of a circular temple dedicated to the goddess of love Aphrodite overlook remains of the two harbors: the arcaded way was built of white marble heart - shaped columns. The legendary Aphrodite of Praxiteles statue, reputedly one of the most beautiful sculptures of the antiquity, once graced this temple. The city was renowned as one of the most beautiful in ancient Greece. Cnidos is considered as the border between Mediterranean and Aegean seas where this two waters mix. It offers also a good anchorage for the boats. The 3 bedroom villa have a larger garden, a living room, an open modern kitchen, 2 bathrooms, a BBQ, fireplace, and are fully furnished.
