Our Cub Scouts Ferris Wheel Float in the Dade City Christmas Parade on Dec. 1st was admired by all. Everyone had a lot of fun! Royal Oaks Nursing Home sent a note of thanks for our caroling on Dec. 5th and added that they look forward to our return! Cub World at McGregor Smith Scout Reservation on Dec 8-10th was fantastic. Highlights include short lines, our great skit, grazing deer, smores, and the shuttle blast off. We may go back on April 20th. RV/Tent camping at Hillsborough River State Park Jan. 5-7th included a guided tour of the Seminole Indian War era Fort Forester, belt loop earning opportunities, camp fires, nature hikes and more smores. At the Round Table meeting of Jan. 11th our new district was named Allohak which means “The Powerful One” in Seminole. Our next Round Table is at United Methodist on 54 is Feb. 8th at 7:30 pm There are activities for children and any interested adult is invited. Tiger Time West at Lowery Park was January 13th. Our Pack Meeting January 17th carries the North and South Pole theme. Plan to attend our Derby Car construction clinic January 27th 9-12 am at the San Antonio Depot. Bring your design, your cars, sandpaper, paint and some tools. The design categories are Classic Car, Food, Animal, Patriotic, Scout Theme, and Nautical. Our Pack Pinewood Derby will be on Saturday February 10th at Darby Community Church. Practice runs at 1pm, weigh in at 1:30, races at 2:30, dinner at 4:30 followed by awards and advancements then a brief parent leader planning meeting. Bring 1 liter soda and a side/salad. The pack will provide the rest. Popcorn sales prizes and Derby trophies will be awarded at the March 21st pack meeting. At the Derby we will distribute Food For Scouting plastic bags. Please return them full of donated non perishables on Saturday February 17th to the Saint Anthony parish hall and report on your estimated pounds donated to your den leader or to Ginger Blomely. Patches will be awarded for participants. Discount Cards costing $5 and honored in all 8 surrounding counties will also be available on Feb 10th for fund raiser sales. They not only proved valuable saving at numerous local retailers but also serve at the entrance ticket to Scout Expo and Council Pinewood Derby at Florida State Fairgrounds on and March 31st. Our closer to home district derby will be held in Zephyrhills on March 10th, details soon available. We’re looking at camping at Sertoma on March 23rd with hobo meals, relay runs, belt loops and an Arrow of Light Ceremony.
