Jebeddo: hey
Jebeddo: finally
Mcgarnagle: excellent. We have time to get through our stuff. If you want to put all your character stuff in the game...
Jebeddo: cool. I have a character sheet written up, but it is in another folder. Can I switch without disconnecting?
Roscoe: To be honest, I don't really know...
Mcgarnagle: woops...
Mcgarnagle: To be honest, I don't really know.
Mcgarnagle: I think you can tab out and then switch the character to the campaign folder
Mcgarnagle: oh, I forgot to make a portrait for you. I'll get that for you before the main game starts
Jebeddo: give me like two minutes, and I'll just enter the basics again on a new sheet
Mcgarnagle: I emailed you the portrait picture
Mcgarnagle: if you download it to your portrait folder you should be able to pick that picture
Mcgarnagle: it will resize automatically for you.
Jebeddo: \
Mcgarnagle: sounds good. If your ready to go then we'll begin
Mcgarnagle: you know the basic commands for FG?
Jebeddo: \ooc kind of. I'll be using the help a bit I think
Mcgarnagle: yep, and emote is ctrl and shift held together.
Mcgarnagle picks his nose
Jebeddo nods
Mcgarnagle: alright. if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. lets begin.
you find yourself in the town of Reeth. The small town doesn't seem to have much to offer, and after staying here for close to a week, you realize that there wasn't going to be anything here for you. You still have no idea where you are going to go, so long as it is far away from Graymark Village, the very village you grew up in. The same village where you contemplated the ritual killing of your brother. Shaking those dark thoughts from your mind, you close the flap of your pack and tighten the draw strings. A smooth tongued voice speaks to you.
Halfling: Hello there, fellow wayward traveler.
A halfling gives you a side ways glance to get your attention.
Jebeddo: hail traveller.
Halfling: The Inn Keeper tells me you're heading west. Might I suggest that we travel together, as I am heading that way myself.
Jebeddo: I would appreciate the company
Jebeddo: What may I call you good sir?
Roscoe: My name is Roscoe.
Jebeddo: Well met Roscoe. I am called Jebeddo
Roscoe offers hand to you.
Jebeddo shakes hand
Roscoe: Where you from, Jebeddo?
Jebeddo: I am from a small village far from here. I wish to see some of the world
Roscoe nods head as he listens.
Jebeddo: Where are you headed?
Roscoe: I'm on my way to the town of Thurles. It is located in the Duchy of Hemel. I am to meet a friend there.
Jebeddo: Indeed. Well, shall we be off?
Roscoe: I think we shall!
Jebeddo: 'tis a fine day for travelling
Roscoe: That it is. It is the season for it! It won't be so nice in four months or so when the snow begins to fall
The journey to Thurles is a long one, taking you nearly a month. Your travel through the Duchy of Haverford is uneventful. You cross the boarder into the duchy of Hemel, and on the 25th day of travel, you arrive in the town of Thurles. Upon arriving, the town seems to be larger than it actually is. Lying in a field west of the town is a caravan village.
Jebeddo: So, friend Roscoe, where do you meet your friend? Anywhere near where I can wash off the stink of travel?
Roscoe: My friend, Jerro should be here in the caravan village. last I heard he was working as a caravan guard. Once we find him, we can go find a place to wash up.
Jebeddo: Caravan guard is a noble profession. Defending travellers from the dangers of the road
Jebeddo: So let us find Jerro
Roscoe: indeed it is! He has been doing it for some time now.
Roscoe: You know, Jebeddo... once Jerro is found, he will probably have some sort of information on buried treasure, or something like that. I intend to go adventuring with him. We could use an extra man, if your feeling up to it.
Jebeddo: I care little for riches, but treasure hunting offers other rewards
Jebeddo: I will keep your offer in mind
Roscoe nods at your answer
You follow Roscoe through the makeshift streets of the caravan village. All manner of people walk around trading and haggling with the merchants here. Roscoe slows to a stop a few times to see if he can spot his old friend. Finally, you see a broad smile cross his face and he waves for you to follow before heading off. You see Roscoe approach a young human, who kneels with a large smile to embrace his halfling friend.
Jebeddo waits patiently while Roscoe and Jerro exchange pleasantries
Roscoe (shouting): Jerro, my friend!
Jerro: It is good to see you, Roscoe. It has been too long.
Roscoe (removing himself from the hug): Jerro, I want you to meet a friend of mine. This is Jebeddo. I met him in Thurles.
Jebeddo: Hail and well met, good Jerro.
Jerro: Pleased to meet you, Jebeddo.
Jerro: You two must be tired. Do you need to wash up at all?
Jebeddo: I would not turn down the opportunity
Jerro: Follow me... I'll take you to the Dancing Lady Inn. There, you can get a room and wash up.
Roscoe: You're paying, right Jerro?
Jerro (laughing): of course my friend, of course!
Jebeddo: For Roscoe, if you must. I would not impose. Just so there is no misunderstanding.
Jerro: Any friend of Roscoe, is a friend of mine. You are my guests, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
Jebeddo: Alright. If you insist.
Jerro: come this way, gentelmen!
Roscoe Follow Jerro to the town.
Jebeddo follows his new friends
Jerro leads you to a plain looking building. He enters and approaches the desk near the door.
Jerro (placing 1gp on the desk): two rooms, good sir, for my friends here. They need a place to rest and wash up!
inn keeper Takes gold
Jebeddo: thank you for the hospitality Jerro.
inn keeper: here you are then. The two rooms are down the hall and on the left.
Jerro: don't mention it, Jebbeddo.
Jerro: I shall wait here until you are ready. Then, we will go and get some real food into your bellies.
Jebeddo: That sounds like a good plan. We will not be long.
Jebeddo: goes to room, washes grime off
Jebeddo smells shirt, and according to his keen gnomish nose, it isn't too terribly bad so he just wipes the dust off but does not change
Jebeddo returns to his new friends after a brief interval
You see Jerro and Roscoe waiting for you.
Jerro: Lets go then, if you are ready.
Jebeddo: Lead on
You are lead by Jerro to a solid looking two story stone building with large arched windows. On the sides, hanging from the slate roof are some down spouts carved into the likeness of winged maidens. Above the door, a wood carved sign reads "The Cat and Songbird". Jerro leads you through the large barrel shaped door. Inside is a well lit jumble of booths and tables, and a winding staircase curls up the center to the top floor. The place is fairly full, with many merchants doing business here as well as in the caravan village.
Jebeddo: busy place
Jerro: Aye. It always is in the summer months when the carvan village is in town.
Jerro: Why don't you two go fetch a booth. I'll get us some food and drink.
Jebeddo finds a booth. Sits down with Roscoe
Jebeddo: How long have you known Jerro?
Roscoe: We go way back. We grew up in the same town. My family was the only halfling family in the town. Jerro and I became close friends. We always dreamt of being adventureres.
Roscoe: It's nice to actually go out and fulfill your dreams.
Roscoe: What of you? What do are your dreams? Why do you travel the beaten path?
Jebeddo: slay monsters? explore haunted forests? all that?
Jebeddo: It sounds funny...
Roscoe (smiles): Oh yes! It is all very exciting.
Jebeddo: I want to help people.
Roscoe: In what way?
Jebeddo: In many of the old tales, adventurers save remote villages from horrible monsters. These people have no where else to turn. Or the law in unable to help them for some reason.
Jebeddo: That is what sets my imagination on fire. I want to be one of those heroes.
Roscoe smiles broadly and nods in recognition
Roscoe: ah, yes! That is a nobel thing, your dream.
Jebeddo: For the moment, I could just use a drink
Jebeddo winks
Roscoe returns with a few mugs of ale and a basket of bread.
Jerro: returns with a few mugs of ale and a basket of bread.
Jerro returns with a few mugs of ale and a basket of bread.
Jebeddo: So, Jerro. Roscoe tells me that you have dreams of being an advenurer
Jebeddo: Do you have any plans in that regard?
Jerro (smiles): Yes, I do. I figue that this job with the caravan will give me some much needed experience.
Jebeddo: dangerous trade routes, then?
Jerro (face turns serious): Yes. The goblin raiders in these part shave been on the rise. It has gotten pretty bad.
Jebeddo scowls
Jebeddo: Goblins. My people do not like goblins.
Jebeddo: Not that many people do, I guess
Roscoe nods in agreement
Jerro: yes, there seems to be no end to their raids. They are getting bolder and bolder too every day
Jebeddo: Evil little buggers
Jebeddo: Goblins are rarely bold on their own initiative. Are they being driven by something bigger, maybe?
Roscoe: I know that I'd run them through... any that I come across, that is.
Jerro: Perhaps. It is a theory that many people share.
Jerro: but there has been little evidence to support it. If someone is organizing them, then they are doing a fine job at covering their tracks. they are keeping their hands clean.
Jebeddo: I don't know which would be worse. Goblins with the initiative to organize themselves, or another power with the subtlety to remain undetected
Jebeddo: Either way, it is troubling
Jerro So, Jerro, have you heard of any treasures that want to be found by adventurous halflings?
Roscoe: So, Jerro, have you heard of any treasures that want to be found by adventurous halflings?
Jerro smiles to his friend at the convient change of subject.
Jebeddo: or gnomes...
Roscoe laughs
Roscoe: or gnomes!
Jerro: You know, Roscoe, I have heard some interesting stories, ones that you may find yourself interested in. I have been working for a dwarf merchant in Hemel named Gorath. I've heard lots of different stories in the taverns there. A lot of it seems to be just that, stories. But there is one that I've heard numerous times... one that I think may have some truth to it. But first, let me ask you something? You ever notice that these lands are called the Seven Duchies of Chaltora? Why is it called the Seven Duchies if there are only six duchies?
Roscoe: I... I don't know. I never really paid attention I guess.
Jebeddo: bad math? I've noticed the races other than gnomes sometimes have trouble with numbers
Jebeddo chuckles
Roscoe laughs loudly
Jerro leans in close.
Jerro: Have you ever heard of the Jewel of Chaltora??
Jebeddo: I have not. Sounds valuable, though
Roscoe stops laughing abruptly
Roscoe (whispers): no.. what is it?
Jebeddo: They don't name jewels like that unless they're worth something
Jerro: The Jewel of Chaltora is a priceless artifact. One that gives it's owner an unimaginable wealth of power. 700 years ago, before the land was divided up into Duchies, the land was ruled by King Salamorea. I'm sure your both familiar with the stories of his death. Either way, that's not the important part of this tale. After Salamorea's death, civil war broke out. It raged on for nearly 200 years. During this time, the land was formed into the duchies. Seven of them were formed. Near the end of the civil war, something devastating had occurred. The Duchy of Soravia is believed to have existed where the Sky Reach mountains exist. However, at the time this part of Chaltora were fertile plains. It is said that man arrived in the lands suddenly, wearing a pendant that had a red cut jewel set in the center of it. The jewel glowed with the color of blood. It is said that this man possessed god-like powers which he wielded with careless abandon. He came and ripped the earth asunder, splitting cities in half, and destroying Soravia. The mountains grew from the ground in a matter of days. What happened after this, no one knows for sure. Some say that the rest of the ducal lands joined forces to defeat this mysterious man, others say that the source of his power was stolen or lost. Either way, there has been a great deal of talk about the Jewel of Chaltora.
Jebeddo: What kind of talk? Treasure maps, maybe?
Jebeddo thinks this is an evil souding bauble. Better destroyed than anything
Jerro: With all the activities that have been taking place... the goblin raiders... the murders in Lagtoor Forest... People think that these are all linked. They think that this man has come back. He's looking for the jewel.
Jerro: I don't know how true this is, but it has many people worried.
Roscoe: where is the Jewel?
Jerro: I don't know, Roscoe...
Jebeddo: where is the man?
Jerro Shakes head.
Jerro: I don't know.
Jerro: I have a friend coming to meet me in Hemel in 10 days. He has some information on this that I intend to get.
Jerro: Perhaps both of you would like to accompany me to Hemel?
Jebeddo: Certainly.
Jerro: I have to guard a caravan to Cambe in the next day or two, but you can stay in Hemel until I return.
Jebeddo: Do you have any idea what kind of information your friend has? A lead on the man, or the jewel?
Jerro: I believe that it is something to do with the jewel... I recieved a letter from him saying that he found something. But he couldn't say much more than that.
Jebeddo: Indeed
Jebeddo: What was it that you said about murders in the forest, earlier? How would that be connected?
Jerro: Langtoor forest has had a number of murders occur. There is no evidence that they are linked with anything at all, and they probably are not...
Jebeddo: ah
Jebeddo: just rumours then
Jerro: Others say that a magical beast is killing the hunters... still others say that it is Ravak, the silent stalker. A ghost assassin...
Jerro: yes... just rumours.
Jebeddo: is there anything we can do to prepare while you are guarding your caravan? Any rumours you would like us to check out?
Jerro: No... It will take us two days to get to Hemel. I will be travelling to Cambe for another 4 days. Then 4 more to return. When I return, we will meet my friend, Marcus.
