You make your way north through the forested valleys of the Star Spire Mountains. The journey has been difficult and dangerous, with all manner of creatures making their home here but you have managed to avoid most encounters. You have been traveling for a long while now and have not encountered anything in a few hours. An eerie silence rests over the mountain range, only the flutter of leaves being blown in the wind make any noise.
Off in the distance, you hear a river flowing through the valley. You soon are upon it and follow it north. It stretches for a mile or two before it plummets off of a cliff into another valley below. Conveniently, there appears to be a trail heading down the cliff into the valley.
Teldathan heads down the trail.
You start to make your way down the trail it winds back and forth on the side of the cliff. beside the path, the waterfall rages towards the ground below
Your keen elven sight spots down below in the valley a ford that crosses the river. crossing the ford is two horses being lead by men cloaked in red robes. They don't seem to notice you.
Teldathan frowns suspiciously and decides to follow them quietly.
You make your way to the bottom of the cliff and head towards the ford. There only appears to be a game trail which is the most likely path the hooded figures took.
Teldathan checks for tracks to see which direction they might have head off in
The game trail is riddled with many differnt tracks. You find it hard to decern one track from another
Teldathan (frustrated): I guess I'll head off along the game trail.
You make your way down the game trail in the direction that you saw them leave. It hoes on for about a mile before it reaches the edge of a lake. The trail seems to end here. You look around but do not see any sign of the red robed men
Teldathan looks around for any sign of the horses they were on.
Mcgarnagle: Make a search roll please.
Teldathan: Search [1d20+2 = 4]
There are signs of different animals that have been using the edge of the lake for a watering hole but you cannot distigush what they came from.
Teldathan decides to scout around the edge of the lake in both directions. If he has lost them, he will continue north.
You scout the lake in both directions but to no avail. The men are no where to be seen.
Another four days pass as you make your way through the mountain range. On the seventh day of your travels in the mountains, you manage to reach the end of a valley that opens into a wide plain with rolling hills and the scattering of forests. The Trackless sea can be seen to the west.
This must be the Ducal Lands
Teldathan takes in the scent of the sea, happy to be out of the mountains and back on softer ground.
The sea smells fresh and the open plain before you is a refreshing sight to the claustraphobic valleys and caverns of the Star sPire Mountains.
You do not see any settlements near by but surely there will be one near edge of the ocean
Teldathan heads north along the ocean.
You've been following the edge of the ocean for 3 days now. There has been a small scattering of farms and small villages of human settlements but nothing really substantial. After travelling for about three hours on the third day, you come to the mouth of a wide river. The river is easily a mile wide here and appears to be flowing with considerable force. There are no signs of the bottom of the river either. On the opposite bank, across from you, you see a small settlement, a large keep towers over the river. To the east of the Keep are a few docks where boats are moored. To the West you see a mill, it's wheel grinding in the water. You can tell that the mill is for grain and wood since there are a number of logs stacked nearby and grain bins line the river.
Mcgarnagle: make a spot check please.
Teldathan: Spot [1d20+8 = 21]
You scan the river bank on the side you stand on and slightly obscured by some bushes is a sign and a bell. You can't make out what is on the sign becuase it is covered by branches.
Teldathan moves up to the sign and clears away the branches, careful not to disturb the bell.
Mcgarnagle: Carfully moving the branches to the side, you see that it is a plain wooden sign with blue chipped paint. The words on the sign are written in common and say the following:
Those needing passage from this side of the Jocel River to Doonberg over Yonder, sound the bell three times. Costs are 1gp per passenger and 5gps for any mount. It is unlawful to sound bell without needing passage and those found guilty will be punished, as decreed by Baron Malon Redraven. Yee've all been warned! Hours of operation are from sunrise to sunset.
Teldathan looks around for something to sound the bell with, but decides to just draw his greatsword and hit it with the pommel three times. He then stands and waits, gold piece in hand.
Shortly after you sound the bell, you see some activitiy across the river on the docks. A few moments later, a small barge sets off and begins it's way towards you.
Teldathan pulls down the hood on his cloak to give a clearer view of his face.
As the barge approaches, you see a man at the steering wheel. He raises his hand in a wave to you. He then turns and tells a shorter person to do something. That person grabs some rope and begins to prepare it for the docking.
Wilhelm: Howdy there, stranger. The names Wilhelm and this is my boy Cedric.
Teldathan (smiling): Greetings. I am Tel'Dathan Willow, a Tethyrian Scout. It has been several days since I have restocked in a town, and yours appears to be quite nice.
Wilhelm: Why thankyou. It's just a small town, but I'm sure you'll find all that you'll need.
Teldathan hands Wilhelm a gold piece.
Wilhelm takes coin and inspects it
Wilhelm: much obliged sir
Wilhelm nods with a toothless grin.
Teldathan smiles at both of them.
Wilhelm (to Cedric): Come on boy, we haven't got all day. lets get this barged turned around.
Teldathan steps on the barge.
Wilhelm: so what brings you all the way to the Duchies?
Teldathan: I had been traveling with my father for the last 15 years or so, but he has returned home and it is now my journey. He never really showed me the Duchies, more of the Amn region. I would like to see these Duchies and what they are like.
Wilhelm grimices at the mention of Amn
Wilhelm: I don't mean to worry you, none, but it's a frightening time to be travelling in the duchies alone.
Teldathan (concerned): Oh? Why is that?
Wilhelm: There are goblin raiders abound! Sure, I guess they've always been around raidin' and what not but they seem to be gettin' bolder and bolder by the day.
Teldathan frowns.
Wilhelm: Just yesterday I heard that they attacked the Felchester Farm. They ussually stick to the roads and attack travellers.
Teldathan: Goblins have always been a problem. My father guarded several caravans against them. Still, when Goblins get more brave, you can bet there is someone forcing it out of them.
Cedric: Pa, tell him about Langtoor...
Teldathan (curious): Longtoor?
Wilhelm (said gently): You just keep quite, now, you here?
Wilhelm: nope. LANGtoor... It's a forest up by Cambe... They're having a real heck of a time up there.
Teldathan: I see. Are the men that are stationed there from this Duchy?
Wilhelm: Yeah, Cambe is in the Duchy of Hemel. Its a few days walk from here to the North east.
Wilhelm: but I'd stay clear of there if I were you...
Cedric: Come on pa, tell him...
Teldathan: Perhaps I should check this out - lend assistance if I can.
Wilhelm (more harshly): Cedric! Enough...
Teldathan: Is there... something I should know about this Langtoor before I go there?
Wilhelm Purses lips while he thinks of what should be said.
Wilhelm: Langtoor is a pretty big forest... The game is very bountyful there and it has recently attracted hunters and trappers from all over the Ducal lands.
Wilhelm: Recently, many of these hunters have gone missing...
Teldathan nods.
Wilhelm: It depends on who you talk to, but all the stories end up looking just as bad.
Wilhelm: Brace yourself, sir, we're about to port...
Teldathan: I see. I can understand why that would create quite the stir in the community.
Teldathan crouches down and steadies himself.
the barge lurches as it gentley bounces against the dock
Wilhelm: Some of the people will tell you that it's some sort of magical beast. others will tell you it is Ravek the Silent Stalker.
Wilhelm ties barge to a pole near by.
Teldathan (interested): What is this Ravek?
Wilhelm: Ravek the Silent Stalker has been lurking in these parts for the past 15 years. Some people believe that he is a ghost that haunts the roads. Ravek was an assassin from Hemel. He worked with only the highest bidder. He fell in love with a noble woman. They were passionate with there love. She did not like what Ravek did and he told her many times that he would quit. His greed seemed to overpower his love for her. On one occasion, he told her that his last job would be his next job. When he was told that his job was to kill the love of his life, he was torn apart. He had a job to do but it was the assassination of his one love. However, his greed for the gold coin could not be resisted. He took her out on a trip on the road from Hemel to Cambe. On the trip, he took her to a lake. He massaged her shoulders. Soon, he had his garrote around her throat and was plunging her head into the lake. He had killed the one woman who loved him. He realized what a terrible mistake he had made and ended up killing himself. He only shows up around this time of year, and with the trouble up in Langtoor, many think that it is Ravek.
Wilhelm: Others seem to believe that it's some sort of wolf like monster. Ravek has been known to kill only a few people every year, and the bodies are always found hanging from trees on the roadside. These hunters have mostly been going missing...
Teldathan: I see. While I don't discount your tale, I'm sure that there must be more to it than a ghost stalking the forest. This, combined with the more agressive goblins, makes for an interesting mystery.
Wilhelm: Boy, go run to your mother and tell her we'll be ready for dinner.
Wilhelm: last week they found one staked to a tree with his guts all trailing out
Teldathan pats Cedric on the head as he leaves.
Wilhelm: it's caused quite the stir up in Cambe. It's even shaken our small town.
Teldathan: That's horrific. It sounds to me like someone is trying to make a statement.
Wilhelm: aye.
Wilhelm: The hunters don't seem to heed the warnings tho
Teldathan: It also sounds like something that I should seek aid in handling. Father would be most upset if I were to end up like just another hunter.
Teldathan grimaces, hoping his words didn't sound harsh.
Wilhelm (smiles gently): Well, if you go to Cambe, I'm sure you'll find some help. The Manor there is always looking for help. The soldiers there are streached thin as it is
Teldathan (relieved): I'll head there directly. I will try and look into this.
Wilhelm: It's getting late... The lonely Tree Inn is just up the road. Josip runs the place and he has fair prices. Why don't you stay the night.
Teldathan thinks for a minute.
Josip: you can at least get a meal...
Teldathan (nodding): Yes, I suppose I haven't enjoyed a bed in some time. It would be a nice change.
Josip: Great. It's on my way. I'll take you there.
Teldathan: Much appreciated.
Josip leads you up a gentle hill into the centre of town.
Josip: right over there is the inn.
Teldathan thanks Wilhelm for the directions.
Josip points to the Lonley Tee inn
Teldathan: Be well.
Josip: Same to you. and be careful up there in Cambe.
Teldathan nods to Wilhelm.
Wilhelm Waves goodbye and head off towards his home
Teldathan admires the sights of the city center for a moment before heading into the Lonely Tree Inn, smiling at the name.
The inn is a large building with a open design. There is plenty of space. The front of the Inn has many large windows streatching up to the second story. The common area of the inn has a vaulted ceiling that the windows shed light upon.
there is many tables and chairs with patrons eating meals. This is clearly a restraunt more than a tavern. A counter has a man standing at it. It appears that he is doing some sort of bookeeping.
Teldathan stand at the entrance for a second, clearly not used to the pleasantries of an inn or a tavern, then heads over to the man doing the bookkeeping.
Teldathan (quietly): Excuse me, would you be Josip?
Josip looks up from his books.
Josip (smiles broadly): I certyainly am. Welcome to the Lonely Tree Inn. How may I help you?
Teldathan: My name is Tel'Dathan. Wilhelm mentioned that I could find a good room here.
Josip (nods and smiles even more at the mention of Wilhelm): some of the best!
Josip: What were you looking for. We offer private rooms only but the prices are reasonable.
Teldathan (grinning): Well, I'll take one of those rooms for a night and a meal to go with it.
Josip: Ah, yes... It will be 1 gold for the nights stay and one meal is included with the price.
Teldathan pulls out a gold coin and hands it to the man.
Josip (takes coin): Thank you kind sir!
Josip Grabs a key from the wall behind him and hands it to you.
Teldathan: and thank you.
Josip: your room is up the stairs there and the third door to the left. You can seat youself here in the common room for a meal if you like or you can save it for later.
Teldathan: I'll go and unburden myself of my pack and weapons, then I will head back down.
Josip: excellent. We are serving seasoned pork with corn and bread. Water is on the house but ale is extra.
Teldathan: I've never aquired the taste for ale. I think it's a human thing.
Teldathan winks.
Josip laughs uproariously
Teldathan (chuckling): Well, I'll be off to change. I'm looking forward to that pork.
Josip: your meal should be ready when you return.
Teldathan heads up the stairs and finds his room. He hides his weapons under the mattress (an old trick his father taught him), drops his backpack off and gets rid of his Chain Shirt. Adjusting his cloak, he heads back down to his meal.
You walk back down the stair and see a woman setting a spot at a table for you. Your meal is brought in a set down.
Waitress: Please, have a seat, sir.
Teldathan: Thank you.
Waitress sets a glass down and pours some wine into it.
Waitress: Josip said that this is from his personal stash. It's on the house.
Teldathan laughs quietly.
Teldathan: It's much appreciated. Send him my regards.
Waitress (nods and smiles): certainly.
Waitress turns and leaves you to your meal
the pork is seasoned just enough and is cooked to the perfect tenderness.
Teldathan looks around for Josip, hoping to raise his glass towards him.
He sees you while he is at the desk. He grins and waves his hand
The wine has a rich flavour. It is sweet and smells very fine.
Teldathan slowly sips the wine, savoring every last bit of it.
You enjoy the meal in peace. there is almost more here than you can handle but you manage to finish the hefty serving. The other patrons retire back to their chambers and it seems like the inn is ready to enter into a peacefull sleep.
Josip goes over to front door and locks it tight.
Teldathan thanks Josip once again for the wine and the superb meal. He then heads up to his room.
you rest in the big comfortable bed. You haven't slept this well in a very long time. The rest of the night passes uneventful
Teldathan spends as much time in Reverie as he can before the morning comes. Almost reluctant to leave, he straps all of his gear back on and heads down to get an early start towards Cambe.
You make your way down the stairs to the common room, adjusting a few straps into place. Josip is in the common room sweeping the floor. The morning sun drenches the room through the tall windows.
Teldathan (walking up to Josip): Good morning Josip. That wine is good enough it could put an elf to sleep.
Josip (laughs loudly): It's from the city of Hemel. I get up there every now and again. I'm glad you liked it!
Teldathan: I'll make a note to stop by Hemel and grab a bottle. Even my father would appreciate it.
Teldathan reaches into his belt pouch and pulls out the key.
Josip: I'm pleased to know that my tastes are shared with the elves. it has been an honor to house you here in Doonberg.
Josip takes key
Teldathan (handing the key to Josip): I will be happy to return whenever I'm in the area.
Josip: And you are welcome at any time!
Teldathan bows slightly and heads toward the door.
Josip: good day, and safe travels.
Teldathan: Be well, Jossip.
Josip returns to sweeping
You head out towards Hemel, the sun warms your body.
As you walk down the road, you hear a commotion from behind you. Turning, you see off in the distance, in the center of town, a man running to his horse. He quickly jumps onto the horse and sends it into full flight down the road past you. You hear him shout out to those in his way to look out as he waves his had for them to scatter out of the way. Soon after that, you see two men clad in red robes move towards their own horses, They struggle to get onto them and try to pursue the man that just rode past you. They soon realize that their chase is futile and they slow their horses down to a stop. You can hear them speaking harsh words in a strange language that you have not heard before.
Teldathan (cautiously moving towards the men): What's going on here?
the red robed men turn their attention towards you. Their faces are concealed in the shadows of their hoods.
Red Robed Monk 1 (with a thick accent): We are monks in this strange lands. We pursue that man, for he has stolen something sacrede to us.
Teldathan (concerned): I am willing to help if it is needed. Do you simply wish the item back?
Red Robed Monk 1: yes, the item is very dear to us.
Teldathan: And what of the man?
the two monks quietly speak in the strange language to one another.
Red Robed Monk 1: we are from the north... Amn. He came to our temple looking for shelter. That is when he fled with one of our member's medallions. We have been pursuing him ever since.
Teldathan thinks back to his time in Amn, trying to remember whether or not he knows anything about these Monks.

You do not recall any monks fitting this description in Amn.
Teldathan (reserved): I will see if I can find anything out about where this man headed. If I am able to find this medallion, I will return it to Josip in the Lonely Tree Inn or to one of your brethren if I see them first.
Teldathan (reserved): I can make no promises that I will find anything or be able to return anything, only that if I find something I will return it.
Red Robed Monk 1: we appreciate this, stranger. We will continue to search ourselves.
Teldathan nods towards the Monk.
Red Robed monk 2 speaks in a harsh tone to the first monk in the strange language.
Red Robed Monk 1 returns the harshness with a short word which scilences the other.
Red Robed Monk 1 nods to you and slowly rides off
Red Robed monk 2 follows his companion
Teldathan (quietly to himself): Strange happenings indeed...
