Mike (Baldrik): test
Baldrik is happy
Baldrik: m(grumpily) My boots are wet
Baldrik (grumpiy): My boots are still wet
Campaign saved.
Baldrik: Hello World
You walk into the local herbal store that is only a few blocks away from the school. Morbius Chamorvis, the headmaster of the school, and also your master, has given you a list of items that you are to pick up. Many of them are standard items that the school uses for their experiments, and a few others are unique. You grab what you must, pay, and begin heading back to the school.
Baldrik (Whistles to the birds): test
Baldrik (whistles to the birds): and waves to passers by
Your about a block away from the school when a man runs into you. He is obviously distracted and worried about something as he keeps looking over his shoulder.
Baldrik: What's the matter chum?
stranger: Sorry, mate... I should be more careful and watch where I'm walking.
He straightens his clothes as he looks around very distractedly.
Baldrik: I should say so
Campaign saved.
Baldrik helps brush off the stranger
Baldrik: Where are you off to in such a hurry?
Marcus: Thanks, pal!
stranger: Hey, you know what?!? Maybe you can do me a favor?
Baldrik: I am in a bit of a hurry, what do you need?
He thrusts into your chest a small, flat wooden box. It is fairly plain and nondescript.
Marcus: Here, keep this for a time being, friend. My names Marcus. I'll come and retrieve it from you in a couple days. You live around these parts?
Baldrik: You can look me up at the Inn. But it must be within the next few days for I leave on a journy shortly
Baldrik tucks the box under his shirt an conceals it with his arms
Baldrik: What's in this box? and who's after it?
Marcus: Excellent! I will certainly come back to retrieve it from you. It will be a huge relief off my chest!
Baldrik: And a burden on mine I fear
Baldrik: There's something your not telling me
Marcus: Oh, no, it's nothing like that. The box has a gift for my wife inside. I don't want her to see it.
Baldrik: You must be fairly trusting to leave a stranger like me with such a precious gift
Marcus: I'll tell you what, How about you meet me here at the same time tomorrow?
Marcus smiles broadly
Baldrik: Don't fear, I'll be here exactly at noon
Marcus: I'll pick it up then.
Marcus: excellent. What is your name again?
Baldrik shakes his Marcus's hand, and briskly walks towards the school
Campaign saved.
Baldrik: Baldrik good sir
Baldrik: I shall see you tomorrow
Baldrik continues to walk
Marcus (shouts and waves): I'll see you tomorrow, Baldrik
Baldrik darts into an alley, and inspects the wooden box
The box is made of some sort of cherry red coloured wood. There is no lock on it or any other carvings.
Baldrik (casts detect magic): and inspects the box more thoroughly
You cast detect magic on it and nothing appears to happen.
Baldrik opens the box
Inside the box, you see a medallion on a chain.
Mike (Baldrik): do I notice any writing on it?
Jeff Penfold (Morbius): no, there is no writing on it.
Mike (Baldrik): and it's not magical
Jeff Penfold (Mcgarnagle): that's right.
Campaign saved.
Baldrik closes the box, tucks it once again under his shirt, resumes whistling and returns to the university
Mcgarnagle: You arrive at the university. The building appears to be like any other. It is a home found in a residential district of Hemel.
Baldrik enters the university, greeting those who dwell inside with a hearty
Baldrik: Hello
man: Hello.
Baldrik: Where shall I leave these herbs?
Baldrik: The bruise weed must remain cool, or it will rot
The secret door in the back leads down into the university section of the building.
man: Morbius is waiting in the lab...
Baldrik: I shall not keep him waiting then
man: I think he requires it immediately
Baldrik heads through the secret door and into the lab
your master is sitting at a desk looking into a vial of green liquid.
Baldrik: Morbius, I'm back with the herbs you requested
Morbius: excellent! Place it over on the counter.
Morbius: How is the weather outside, son.
Baldrik shutters slightly after staring into the cool stare of Morbius
Baldrik (places the herbs on the counter): The weather was fine.
Campaign saved.
Baldrik: I met quite a strange fellow today
Morbius: Then follow me. Tell me on the way to the roof.
Baldrik: His name was Markus. He looked like he was running for his life, when he bumped into me
Baldrik follow Morbius
Morbius grabs vial, brusied weed and a strange looking device and heads out of the lab
Morbius: so, what of this strange fellow?
Baldrik: Seemed friendly enough though. He must have been trying to hide this from his wife.
Baldrik pulls out the concealed box
Baldrik: He was going to give her this as a gift
Baldrik (opens the box): quite nice don't you think?
Morbius: hmmm... I would be weary of such a man. It is odd behaviour for a man. It is quite nice, though.
Baldrik: He asked me to hold onto it for a day, so he won't raise suspissions. I am quite weary of this man
Baldrik: It dosen't appear magical, do you know of any significane this medalian may have?
Morbius: is he collecting it tomorrow them? Away from the school, I would hope.
Morbius: I have not seen anything like it. It does appear to be quite old, however.
Baldrik: Yes, tomorrow at noon, infront of the herb shop
You walk up the stairs and onto the roof.
Baldrik: Have you studied with any historians who may be able to place a worth on this medalian?
Campaign saved.
Morbius: Yes.... there may be some down at the Guild of Arcane Lore... But I haven't time to go today and you will not be permited to enter.
Baldrik: And by worth, I mean significance to me, not necisarily monitary value
Baldrik: Well, I suppose the best thing would be to take a rubbing of it, and return it to Markus in the morning
Morbius: Yes, that would be a good idea... you can do it after were done here.
Morbius takes apperatus and sets it up on the roof.
Baldrik: What are you working on today?
Baldrik is now much more intent on the vials and herbs Morbius is preparing
Morbius: You'll see... Take this weed and crush it up.
Baldrik takes the weed, wraps it in a cloth and begins crusing it between the table and a mixing bowl
Morbius: When your done that, mix the liquid in with the weed. Mix it slowly and allow the plant to absorb the liquid completey before adding more.
Baldrik: What is that green liquid? I don't recognize it
Morbius opens the door on the front of the apperatus.
Baldrik unwraps the crushed weed, and places it into the mixing bowl
Morbius: It is the essance of the Floundering Gisupee.
Baldrik slowly, and ever so carefully, begins to add the green liquid to the bowl a few drops at a time
Campaign saved.
The floundering Gisupee is a rare magical bird
Baldrik (gasps): Floundering Gisupee!!
Baldrik: Where did you find such a creature?
Morbius: The males of this speicies are stupid and easy to capture. But mixed in the proper fashion, this will device and that mixture will attract the female to this very rooftop.
Morbius: That looks ready... hand it to me.
Baldrik: Engenious. Has a man every been so close to a femail Floundering Gisupee?
Baldrik quickly hands thte mixture to Morbius
Morbius places the mixture inside a bowl and then places the bowl inside the apperatus.
Morbius: The closest that anyone has been is from here all the way to that far rooftop over there.
Baldrik stares at the apperatus intently
Baldrik: This little invention will make you famus Morbius
Baldrik: Shall I fetch you one of the bird cages?
closes the door on the apperatus. Flips a switch. A small wheel begins to turn, slowly pulling small amounts of the mixture up. You see a green haze appear ever so slightly.
Baldrik sniffs the air about him
Campaign saved.
Morbius: that shouldn't be nessecary. The mixture will attract the female to the apperatus. It will only take a few moments before the Brusied weed takes it's effect. The female suffers from paralysis if the weed is inhaled
Morbius: luckily it does not affect humans.
Baldrik: quite
you smell a musky scent in the air.
Morbius: It will take a few days before we will attract her, but her sense of smell is very acute. She will smell the essance of the male for miles around.
Baldrik looks like his is about to say something, then thinks better of it
Morbius: come... let us return to the lab.
Baldrik: of course
Baldrik opens the door for Morbius
Morbius goes through door with a nod to you and leads you down to the lab
Baldrik: I've been thinking about visiting my weatlhy cousins
Morbius: Ah... yes, I remember you speaking of him before.
Baldrik: They are noble where they live, and are sorrounded by enchanted woods
Morbius: Where does he live again?
Baldrik: I doubt anyone there has ever heard of creaturemancy, and my cousins would gladly pay for my stay. It's been nearly 30 years since my parents spoke to them
Mike (Baldrik): where is quachie's character's family from?
Baldrik: My Dad says they were most hospitible
Campaign saved.
Jeff Penfold (Morbius): well, he is from Hemel as well but we can say that this cousin is actually another cousin of Quachie who lives in Cambe
Mike (Baldrik): That would work, solong as I meet up with quachie
Baldrik: They live in Cambe
Jeff Penfold (Morbius): It will still work since you didn't want your 2 characters to know one anther personally, right?
Mike (Baldrik): that's right
Morbius: Well, when were you planning on making this visit?
Baldrik: As you know, my family fortune is begining to dwindle, in this city. I was thinking within the month.
Baldrik: Though each time I ponder that question, I find myself thinking I should leave today.
Morbius: hmmmm... Well, unless the school doesn't need you for anything within the next few weeks, then I don't see it being a problem.
Baldrik: I would like to help the school on my journy.
Morbius looks at you with raised eyebrows
Baldrik: Surely there must be some rudimentery experiments, or classifications I can perform on the creatures between here and Cambe
Campaign saved.
Baldrik: I've heard of many magical beasts in those parts
Baldrik: I feel I'm ready to study some of them in the wilde. Atleast the more peacefull ones
Morbius: perhaps... Baldrik, come and see me tomorrow after you deliver the package back to this Marcus fellow. I will try to find something for you to do at Cambe.
Baldrik: I will
Morbius: Good... I won't be needing you for the rest of today.
Morbius waves his hand in a dismissive manner.
Baldrik: Allright. I shall be here tomorrow
Baldrik: Shortly after the noon hour
Morbius nods
Baldrik wave bye excidetly, and hussles up the stairs and through the secret door
Baldrik (regaining composure, waves to the man upstairs) Hello again
man: hello.
man: Did you get the herbs to Morbius?
Baldrik: Shall I see you here tomorrow?
Baldrik: Yes I did
man: Most likely.
Baldrik: He was quite pleased
man: good.
man: Are you done for the day?
Baldrik: I belive I'm done with Morbius for the day
Baldrik: Have you heard of any interesting going-ons for this evening?
Campaign saved.
man: Well, they still have that boat that came in to port last week. it is being qurantined due to some sort of plague.
Baldrik: Still?
Baldrik: Has no one identified the plague yet?
man: Yes. I bet they'll be there for awhile. The boat had 100 passangers on it when it left Waterdeep. There were only 37 when it sailed into port here in Hemel.
man: They haven't yet.
Baldrik: Such a shame.
man: They are more concerned with seeing if any of the other passangers may be infected.
Baldrik: If only the priests of Hermel were as renowned as us wizards
man: it is. Thankfully for them a cleric of Kelmervor was one of the passangers.
man: he will be able to ease much of the weariness that the rest of the passangers may have.
Baldrik: Well, surely he must know if the remaining 36 are infected
man: The port authority aren't taking any chances. you know how they can be.
man: suits me fine. I wouldn't want to risk the infection reaching the rest of the city.
Baldrik: It's a shame I know nothing of medicine
Baldrik: I'm sure the authority know what's best
man: ah, but you are still young. You will learn in time.
Campaign saved.
Baldrik: Are you saying they don't know what's best?
man: no, not at all. They are doing the right thing.
Baldrik: Well, I suppose I should get some supper in my belly
Baldrik: I will see you tomorrow
man: well, have a good dinner. I'm sure I'll see you tomorrow.
Baldrik (waves good bye): and heads out the door
You make your way to the inn and order a meal. You continue through the night with your various duties and studies. Soon you fall asleep in your bed and wake in the morning of a new day
Baldrik Casts Mage armor as he heads towards the herb shop.
Campaign saved.
Baldrik He looks once more at the parchment rubbing he made of the medalian last night during his studies, and folds it into his belt pouch
You wait on the crowded street where you first met Marcus. There has been no sign of him since the time you arrived. The sun is shining brightly, heating the street and your neck. You step back into the shade of a building. That is when you notice two men... or at least you think they might be men, since they are completely cloaked in red robes. They wear black gloves over their hands. Your not sure, but it seems as though they might be looking at you.
Baldrik steps inside the herb shop, and approaches the counter
Baldrik: Good day shopkeep
Herbalist: good day. Back again?
Baldrik glances out the door at an angle to observe the red roabed men
Baldrik: Uh.. Yes, yes I am
You see them advancing towards the herb shop.
Baldrik casts Charm Person on the shop keep
Campaign saved.
Herbalist: [1d20 = 17]
Herbalist: [17]
Herbalist: What are you doing??
Baldrik: Good sir, I need you to hide me. I fear I'm in a great deal of truble.
Baldrik: I will explain all in good time, and I assure you I ment no harm of you
Baldrik: *To you
Herbalist: What?!? from who. I don't want any trouble in my shop!
Baldrik: I am mearely attempting to protect myself from the red robed men approaching this store
Herbalist looks out window
Herbalist ponders a moment then waves you along
Herbalist: alright, come on.
Baldrik: Thank you, Thank you
Baldrik: I have no idea what they are after
Baldrik follows the herbalist quickly
the herbalist takes you to a back store room herbs hang on nets against the wall. He moves a rug revealling a trap door. He opens it and gestures for you to go down.
Herbalist: hide in here.
Baldrik Hides as directed
Herbalist: Down in the cellar, you can see the main shop upstairs through the floor boards.
Campaign saved.
the front door opens and you see two robed men come inside. The seem to be looking around for something.
robed man 1: excuse me, shopkeep. Have you seen a man just come in here not too long ago?
Baldrik controls his breathing, and remains as motionless as possible
Herbalist: ah, no... I haven't had a customer in here for about an hour now. A fellow came in for a second but left right after. out the back there...
the robed men stand there silently for a long moment
One begins to walk towards the back door
robed man 2: so he left for sure?
Herbalist: yes. can I get you anything else?
robed man 2: no, that is fine.
the other robed man walks right over top of where you are and follows his companion to through the back door.
a few moments pass in scilence when the herbalist opens the trap door.
Baldrik remains silent and hidden a good deal longer
Campaign saved.
Herbalist: it's safe now. they are gone.
Baldrik: Thank you so much kind sir
Baldrik: Have you ever seen those men before?
Herbalist: who were those men? They chilled my bones.
Herbalist: no
Baldrik climbs out of the crawl space
Baldrik dusting himself off
Baldrik: It's quite strange that they would chase me like that. May I stay here, and out of site a while longer?
Herbalist: yes, but stay out of sight until we're sure they're gone.
Baldrik: Perhaps you have something to sell me that will disgguise my appearnce, I doubt they will give up the chase long.
Baldrik sits down in the corner near the trap door
Herbalist (scratches head): I don't think I do... Wait!
Baldrik: * I men so soon above, not long
Baldrik: **ment
Herbalist goes and graps a large heavy rain cloak.
Baldrik watches the Herbalist with great excitement
Baldrik: Yes, That would do nicely
Herbalist: you can use this... it is much bigger than you, and should cover you up
Baldrik: How much do I owe you?
Baldrik: I fear if you put a true value on your service, I should not afford to pay you
Herbalist: just take it. I can;t take your money if it is your life on the line for I have no doubt about what they intended to do.
Campaign saved.
Baldrik dresses in the rain coat
Baldrik: thank you so much. Please, take this as a token of my apreciation
Baldrik (holds out a gold in the palm of his hand): I insiist. It'll atleast pay for this fine coat
Herbalist: Thank you, and please, be safe!
Baldrik (bows to the shopkeep): I will try my best
Herbalist nods
Baldrik leaves through the fron door, and slinks into the street
Herbalist: You make your way through the winding streets and alleys, finding the safest but longest path back to the school.
You enter the school and are met by Morbius, who appears to be excited.
Morbius: Hurry along now! We haven't time to dottle. I have a very important job for you! You need to go to the village of Cambe. Not far from there is Langtoor Forest. There has been a large number of hunters and trappers who have gone missing in the past little while. Some of the hunters have said that it is a huge magical wolf that has been killing these men. I am not so sure of this story, but it certainly has sparked my interest.
Campaign saved.
Morbius: I have already packed your things, and you must leave immediately. On your journey, you must not tell anyone who you are working for or what you are doing. Tell them you are visiting a realitive or a friend. Tell them anything but the truth. No need raising any suspicions. This is also a much more dangerous task than what you are used to and so I must insist that you find some capable fighters who can help you in your cause. Again, don't tell them why your there... in fact, join there group and do whatever tasks they want. You can try to pursuade them to go check out the forest, but don't force them. I want you to be safe, so take as much time on this as you need. Report to me every week using the scrying stone. Do you have any questions?
Baldrik: Whoa whoa whoa
Morbius: Baldrik, I thought you wanted to go to Cambe?
Baldrik: I come in here, hard of breath, and dressed in a strangers rain coat, and you don't let me get one word in
Morbius: Now you can and you will be helping the school as well
Baldrik: I do want to go to Cambe
Baldrik: and I do wan't to help the school
Baldrik: But I should also like to say that I was nearly killed this noon hour
Morbius: oh... well, yes. I thought it might be raining outside.
Morbius: pardon me?
Morbius looks at you sideways.
Baldrik: Yes
Morbius: what happend?
Baldrik (brandishes the box): This box
Baldrik: I went to return it, as I said I would
Morbius: Marcus tried to kill you?
Baldrik: No, though mabbey
Baldrik: ...
Baldrik: Two robed men
Baldrik: Red robes
Baldrik: With black gloves
Morbius looks confused
Morbius: did you not meet Marcus then
Baldrik: I didn't get a good look at them, but they spoted me in the crowd and closed in
Baldrik: No, Marcus wasn't there
Baldrik: Just the two robed men
Baldrik: I took refuge under the floor boards of the herbalist shop
Morbius: Did they follow you back here?
Campaign saved.
Baldrik: The kind shopkeep led them out the back door, and I hid a good deal longer until I was sure of my safety
Baldrik: I do not belive the followed me.
Morbius: do you not feel up to this task then?
Morbius looks disapointed
Baldrik: Yes,
Baldrik: Yes I do
Morbius: good!
Baldrik: My nerves are a bit shaken, but I'll regain my composure
Morbius: Well, perhaps it is safer for you outside the city...
Baldrik: Perhaps I should leave this necklace with you, and you can have it identiffied when you have time
Baldrik: I belive this may be the most oprotune time for me to leave this city
Morbius: they may not look for you in Cambe. All the more reason to remain secretive about your activities.
Morbius: I will take the medallion if you wish. Although it may hold answers to some of these questions...
Baldrik: I have a few friends i drink with at the Inn. They are allways up for an adventure. Perhaps I can convince them to help me gett to Combe
Baldrik: No, you keep the medalion. I'll keep the rubbing of it.
Baldrik: If your friends at the Arcane Knowledge institute can't identify it, then perhaps I shall return for it
Morbius: perhaps... But then again, it may be wise to travel aone. It is easier to hide.
Campaign saved.
Morbius: I will see what he can find out about the medallion.
Baldrik: In any case, I shall need some transportation.
Baldrik: I suppose I would be best to catch a ride with some of the trade merchants in the market.
Baldrik hands Morbius the wooden box
Baldrik: Let me know as soon as you discove the properties of this. My life may depend on it
Morbius: pehaps. You can do that if you like or I can supply you with a mule. It is a simple beast, but reliable. However, the merchants may supply you with safety. But it may also reveal your preseance to these robed men
Morbius: I certainly will, Baldrik.
Baldrik: I will take my chances with the merchants. I will keep my identity secret from the merchants
Morbius: very good.
Baldrik: Are there any scrolls you wish me to study on my journey?
Campaign saved.
Morbius: not this time. I want you to remain focused on the task at hand. The beast in Langtoor is the most important.
Baldrik: Of course
Morbius: As always, keep an eye out for interesting spiecies of both animal and plant. Document everything
Morbius: I will supply you with a scrying stone in which I expect you to report back to me every 2 weeks.
Baldrik: I will. Let me gather up some parchment, and ink for my jourrney
Baldrik rolling blank parchments, and filling them into scroll tubes
Campaign saved.
Baldrik (salutes Morbius): I will contact you in two weeks. Hopefully I'll know the location of the magical wolf, and you will have indentified the nature of this medalian
Campaign saved.
Morbius goes away briefly and returns with a scrying stone
Morbius: certainly. Remember, that safety comes first. Find people who can help you in Cambe.
Baldrik: I will
Morbius: Leave with haste, then, Baldrik. Goodluck.
Baldrik leaves the secret lab, and slinks back to the Inn to pack up his meger belongings, and procure some food and drink for the road
Morbius: You head off to the market square to find a safe journey to Cambe. Who knows where your journey will lead after you reach Cambe, but it will certainly be quite the adventure.
