You have recently been recruited as one of Baron Kasvalon's infantry in the town of Cambe. Your duties include keeping the peace within the Barony, patrolling the roads within the territory, As well as ensuring that justice is served and upheld. The Baron's forces are small, but effective. You have been assigned under Sergeant Roth Hindelgrass. Roth appears to be lazy and uninterested with his work and he also doesn't seem to like you very much, giving you the lowliest of duties such as cleaning the stables for the cavalry and sending you to deal with all the petty squabbles that occur within the Barony. Today has been no different, and you find yourself on your way to the White Egg Tavern dealing with Barker Redraven. A month ago, Barker was also apart of the militia before he was discharged for skimming off the coffers. Normally such an act would have been punished at least by being sent to Carrack Prison for a year, and at the most, having the culprits hand removed. Barker managed to evade any punishments due to his close friendship with Sergeant Roth. Roth pulled some strings and managed to get his friend out of relative trouble, but he couldn't prevent him from being discharged.
You make your way down the dirt road towards the tavern. The sun is directly above you and you feel a trickle of sweat roll down your neck. As you approach, you notice the dwarf, Bern Avca standing outside of the building. He appears angry and a little worried.
Gwynn (nods to Bern): Hail, Bern! You look troubled; may I help?
Bern Avec: I'm glad you're here. This is the 3rd time this week that drunk has given me troubles. I didn't punch him in the nose this time, and I sent for you, just like you told me to...
Gwynn (smiles): And I thank you for that. Third time offense gives me a little more room for... enforcement.
Campaign saved.
Bern Avec: well, come on in... might as well get this over with.
Gwynn: Aye, lead the way...
You enter the dimly lit tavern. Your eyes see nothing but shadows at first as the adjust from the bright out doors to the shadowy bar. The Tavern is completely empty, save for one man sitting at a table in the corner. Some bottles of wine sit on their sides about the table. Barker slouches in his chair and takes a big swig from the bottle in his hand, half of it running down his cheeks and chin.
Gwynn (curt): Ever the gentleman, Barker.
Gwynn walks slowly toward Barker
Barker Redraven: bugger off, you swine loving orc!
Gwynn: 'Tis you who looks more the pig on this day
Barker Redraven looks at Gwynn with glazed eyes
it looks as tho Barker may vomit at any moment.
Bern Avec: get this filth out of here, please Gwynn!
Gwynn: I heard the dward didn't knock you out this time. Why don'tyou show him the same courtesy and follow me outside, Redraven?
Barker Redraven: Don't Toch me, filth... ssstay a way..
Barker Redraven rocks back and forth as he tries to keep his balance
Gwynn (trying to be amicable): I won't touch you, I promise. Just make for the door
Barker Redraven Stands up and almost tips over
Bern Avec: get out of here!
Barker Redraven: I'll go... but only cause I want too.
Gwynn slightly raises hand to Bern, as if to say Gwynn has this one
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: Of course, Barker, you have better things to do, anyways.
Barker Redraven Stumbles towards the door, stops when he is face to face with Gwynn.
Gwynn smiles a two-tusked grin
Barker Redraven: your gonna wisssh you nev'a crosssh'd me...
Barker Redraven waves finger in Gwynn's face
Gwynn keeps eye contact, but resists urge to say something
Barker Redraven Pushes the door open and stumbles out side. Covers face as the light assults his eyes.
Gwynn tries to keep his right fist from balling as Barker leaves
Bern Avec: Thanks alot, Gwynn. That jerk just won't ever do what's good for him
Gwynn: Sorry, again, that you had to do through this, Bern. I might set him up with a night in the brig just to teach him a lesson
Bern Avec: serve him right. here...
Bern Avec hands you a bottle of wine
Bern Avec: for all your troubles...
Gwynn holds up hands
Gwynn: Thank you, but this is just part of my work
Bern Avec: no, I insist At least take it back to the Manor and give it to the boys.
Gwynn: Especially lookin' after one who was once our own
Gwynn: I can't politely resist too much. 'll make sure that Edward and the boys get this later tonight. Thank you
Bern Avec: have a good day
Gwynn (touches finger to brow): And you, too. Hopefully we'll next meet under better circumstances
Campaign saved.
Gwynn tucks the bottle under his arm and heads out to the light of day
You leave the White Egg Tavern to continue your duties for the day. Roth told you to clean the stables again today, even though you did it the day before. As you start to walk back to the manor, a young soldier named Edward comes running towards you, shouting for you. His weapons rattle as he comes to a halt. Edward has been part of the militia just a bit longer than yourself. With the rest of the men being veterans, you and Edward have bonded and become good friends. He gasps to catch his breath and begins to talk excitedly.
edward: Gwynn, You'll never believe it. I was assigned to be a guard for Baron Kasvalon. It's only temporary while he travels to the Duchy of Havenford on business but it will get me the experience I was looking for.
Gwynn smiles and pats Edward on the back
Gwynn: Well, that's great news, friend!
edward: But that's not the only good news! Yesterday, a wagon shipment of swords and armor and other gear was suppose to arrive but it didn't. I think you know the one I'm talking about. The supplier is actually here in Cambe and was waiting for these goods so he could personally present them to the Baron. Anyway, Roth asked me to find out what happened to this supply wagon. I asked the jerk if I could get some help from some more men but he told me there were none to spare. As I was leaving the manor, Feng Shu was coming back from a ride and told me that I would be accompanying them to Havenford. I told him that I had to find out what happen to the wagon but he just told me to give it to someone else. I thought of you right away, figuring that it would get you out of cleaning the stables!
Gwynn: It most certainly does! And I have an inkling as to where I might begin...
Meanwhile...
It was only yesterday that Kirkland spoke to you in the city of Hemel. The letter he gave you was from the court of Baron Kasvalon. They asked you to make haste and come to the town of Cambe where the Baron was in need of your skills. The letter also stated that you would be paid for your services and all your expenses would be paid for on behalf of the Baron. Finally, the letter said that a carriage waited outside for you to come at once to Cambe.
The ride was long, lasting all day and all night. The bumpy road and the speed of the trip made it difficult to catch any sleep. You arrive at Cambe at around mid morning. The carriage drives you through the gate of the stone wall and up to the front door of the Baron's manor. The driver of the carrige helps you with your things and opens the ornate doors to the manor for you.
The marble floor is a bright ivory color with small flecks of cinnamon red and gold. The sun shines through the large picture window that towers over the front door. A intricately designed oak chair, stained cherry red sits across from you. A statue of a beautiful woman in a flowing gown greets those at the entrance of the manor. The statue seems to draw your attention from the rest of the stunning foyer.
Campaign saved.
Feng Shu: Beautiful, isn't she?
a deep voice jolts you out of your trance. The footsteps echo across the floor as you see a tall muscular man enter the chamber. He wears a loose fitting white shirt and pants. His black hair is cut short and he sports a neatly trimmed goatee and moustache. He looks to be from one of the far eastern countries.
Barian: Why yes she is... who is she?
Feng Shu: It is in the likeness of the Baron's wife, Anriba.
he says as he admires the statue briefly. He turns back to you and extends his hand to yours.
Feng Shu: I am Feng Shu, and I am honored to meet you. All of us here in the town of Cambe are pleased that you could come.
Barian: The honour is mine. This can be a tough time for any family. WE are glad to be of service
Feng Shu: Baron Kasvalon apologizes for his absence, but he has pressing business to attend to in Havenford. Unfortunately, this business is somewhat related to why he brought you here. You see, his wife is very ill, and he and her physicians fear the worst. He would like you to be here when her passing comes, and to prepare her, and the family for their eventual loss. He is taking her to Havenford because he believes there, he may find a way to cure her of her sickness. If they do not succeed, then your skills will be needed. In the mean time, he asked me to purpose you with another task.
Barian: I will be at her side if the time comes that I am needed. What is this task you speak of?
Feng Shu: excellent. thankyou.
Feng Shu: We were expecting a shipment of weapons, armor, and other gear for our local militia to arrive yesterday. The Baron had just struck a deal with a merchant in Hemel named Gorath. He was to supply our militia and the town in general with supplies for the next year. Gorath even made it a point to arrive at the manor before the shipment did in order to present it to Baron Kasvalon himself. He is quite upset about the disappearance of the shipment. With goblin raiders on the rise within the Duchy, we fear the worst. We have one of our men investigating the lost shipment and we would like you to accompany him. Your skills may prove useful if there was indeed an attack.
Campaign saved.
Barian: I would be honoured to help your man. I have heard of these goblin raiders, and I'm sure the Church would like to know if their activity is on the rise
Feng Shu: Then it is settled. You will stay in Cambe until the Baron's wife requires your services. In the meantime, you can assist our men in dealing with the cirrent situation.
Barian (bows slighlty): Excellent
At this point, you see a man and a half-orc enter the manor's front door.
Feng Shu: ah.. and here is the man now.
Gwynn boys to Feng Shu
Barian: looks at the two who entered
Feng Shu: Edward, I take it that Gwynn will be following up on the task we spoke of earlier?
Edward: yes, sir, it is.
Feng Shu: Gwynn, this is Barian. He has agreed to help you with your quest.
Gwynn (extends): hand Pleased to meet you, Barian
Campaign saved.
Barian (shakes hands): Greetings.

Gwynn: I'm happy to have assistance in this task, it seems much of the rest of the guard is predisposed
meanwhile...
You found difficulty in finding a merchant travelling the road to Cambe. With the increase in attacks from Goblins, not many were willing to travel there. You decided to set out on foot.
You make your way down a well traveled path through small groves, and alongside small gullies. You have been instructed to go to the Barony of Cambe to investigate in some rumors. Word had reached Hemel that giant wolf like beasts have been attacking hunters and trappers going into Langtoor Forest. Your master is unsure as to the validity of such claims but requested you to head over that way to see what you can discover. He has also instructed to you that, for your own safety, you might want to consider joining with some locals to show you around. There is always safety in numbers. But as always, you are to not raise suspicion.
You crest over a hill and see off in the distance in the grass beside the road that many tracks of wagons and people diverted from the road to go off into a small grove of trees. You also notice that there is a flock of crows wheeling over the grove.
Campaign saved.
Baldrik quietly heads in the direction of the tracks
The tracks wind in through the trees, which aren't very dense. You hear rustling coming from within the grove, right below where the crows circle overhead.
Baldrik contines cautiously
You push your way past the branches and come across a wagon tipped on it's side. A barrel of grain is also on it's side with it's contents spilt out across the ground. A few crows rustle the feathers as they fight over the spoils. You also notice that there are a few bodies lying on the ground, away from the wagon. Upon closer examination, you see three arrows sticking out of the chest of one of the men and another four arrows sticking out of the other man's body. Both men look like they were farmers.
Baldrik inspects the remains of the farmers, and their wagon
Mcgarnagle: Make a local knowledge roll please.
Baldrik: Knowledge, Local [1d20+4 = 5]
Baldrik: Knowledge, Local [5]
Campaign saved.
You cannot decern much more from scene. You are not sure, culturally, what the arrows come from and the farmer's garb is not recognizable to any area.
Baldrik attempts to asertain which direction the ambusers left in
Mcgarnagle: make a surrvival roll please
Baldrik: Survival [1d20+2 = 8]
Baldrik: Survival [8]
You are not sure which way they left by.
Baldrik takes one last look at the bodies
Baldrik feels queezy
Baldrik vomits
Baldrik and returns to the road
Off on the horizon, you see the town of Cambe. It's small with roughly 50 buildings. You get a strong smell of the home fires cooking dinner, plumes of smoke rising into the sky. To the north, you can see a large, walled manor sitting on a low hill that overlooks the town.
Baldrik looks around for an Inn
You don't see an Inn intially, but you do see a tavern called the White Egg Tavern. Perhaps someone inside will know where lodging can be found.
Campaign saved.
Baldrik heads toward the Tavern
you enter and are assulted by the smell of cooed meat and steamed potatos. The place seems to be half full tonight. A man playing a lute appears to be just finishing his set as he puts his insturment away.
Baldrik (looking around): Perhaps someone can help me
Baldrik: I'm looking for the Rookwood residence
Gwynn: Do I know where that is?
Gwynn stands and offers a seat opposite him
Gwynn (smiling): Perhaps you'd care to have a seat?
Baldrik (nervously): I suppose I could sit a while. I've been on the road for a few days now
Baldrik takes a seat accross from Gwynn
Barian: Greetings traveller.
Barian: extends hand
Baldrik (with a quick smile): Greetings
Gwynn: Now, the Rookwoods, you say? What business do you have with them?
Baldrik shakes Barian's hand
Campaign saved.
Baldrik (with a quick smile): Well, it's of a private sort of nature
Barian: I am Barian, Cleric of Kelemvor (smiles)
Baldrik (with a quick smile): I'm a relative you see
Baldrik: They are quite a prminant family in these parts, and I've come to stay with them for a time
Gwynn (raises eyebrows): A relative? Well, then that makes you the first Rookwood in these parts in quite some time.
Baldrik (confused): Are you certain?
Baldrik: Do you know where they've moved to?
Gwynn: I can't say I do, really. They moved on before I arrived last year.
Baldrik: Well,
Baldrik: I guess it's to be expected
Gwynn: There is an estate, not too far from here, though it is uninhabited
Baldrik: My family has not been in contact with the Rookwoods in these parts for many years
Campaign saved.
Baldrik: Is there any lodgins for rent in town here?
Baldrik: I should like to spend the night, before I venture to the estate
Gwynn: Aye, I believe you come to right place. Check with Bern over the counter, there
Gwynn points to a dwarf
Baldrik: Where do you hail from Gwynn, Barian?
Baldrik: Local residents?
Barian (smiles): Not I. I have travelled from Shadow Castle in the Silver Marches. To the Norht
Gwynn: I serve with the local militia now, though my family is in Cormyr
Barian: How about you Baldrik? Where have you travelled from?
Gwynn: And you, dark stranger, from another Dutchie?
Baldrik: I've traveled from Hemel
Barian: A fine city! I was recently there. How was your journey?
Baldrik: Relitively peacefull
Baldrik: There was a wagon waylaid on the trail
Gwynn: You'll find fine lodgings at Willow Lodge. I wouldn't suggest moving on there until wetting your whistle her, Bern serves up some fi... some go... some ale.
Baldrik: I'm glad I wasn't with them
Barian (surprised): really?
Baldrik (seriously): really
Baldrik: There were atleast two local farmers waylaid on the road
Campaign saved.
Gwynn gimaces
Baldrik: Their belongings were stolen, and both were dead when I came across them
Gwynn grimaces
Barian: Gwynn and I were just discussing Goblins... Was there any sign of them there?
Gwynn: It appears we may have another task to tend to, as well, then
Baldrik: Not unless Goblins have masterd the art of bowmanship
Gwynn: Perhaps we can enlist your aid then, sir
Meanwhile...
You have come a long way, following the western coast north from your homeland. You've been in the Duchy of Hemel for just under a week. The Ducal land is full of hills and woods, rivers and cliffs. Mountains loom behind you, they tower off in the distance in all their splendor. You haven't come across too many settlements in your travels. A few villages but nothing of any substantial size with the exception of the town of Doonberg. While you passed through the town, you've heard some rumors from the locals that there have been some grizzly murders up in Langtoor Forest, north-east of the town of Cambe.
The rumors that you've heard have been quite graphic. Bodies of hunters nailed to trees with their entrails ripped out. Others have said that it is the work of People believe that the person who killed them was dressed in a black hooded cloak. They believe that the man was Ravek the Silent Stalker. Now, you make your way north-east towards Langtoor Forest and the town of Cambe.
It has taken you close to three more days of walking to reach the town of Cambe. Off in the distance, you see the town streach out before you. The homes and buildings are spread out more in this town than what they were in Doonberg and it also seems to be larger. On the north east edge of town, directly opposite of where you stand. You see a stone walled manor on a hill over looking the town. This is clearly the home of the Baron for this Barony.
Teldathan pulls the hood up on his cloak and readies himself for the city.
The sun is setting as you make your way into town. There isn't much activity on the street but you see that there is a Tavern near by. Laughing and talking can be heard from within
Campaign saved.
Teldathan thinks back to the Lonely Tree and the direction he got there, then heads into the tavern.
You enter the tavern and see a hotbed of activity. There are all manners of people who seem to be enjoying themselves.
Baldrik: Well what manner of help will you be requiring Gwynn?
Teldathan pauses at the doorway for a moment, before lowering the cloak to reveal his copper skin and pointed ears. He looks around at the patrons and heads to the bar.
Gwynn: A guide to the overturned cart, to be sure. And if you have interest in goblins, then you might accompany us to another supoosed ambush site
Baldrik: What intrest could any man, or half man, have in goblins? Such crude creatures they are.
Bern Avec: Hello there! What can I get for you tonight?
Campaign saved.
Gwynn does a double take when he sees the bronzed elf
Barian looks over his shoulder to see what Gwynn is looking at
Gwynn (quietly): Not seen one o' them in these parts
Baldrik Baldrik slowly turns in the same direction
Teldathan (looking around): perhaps information. I'm trying to look into what has been going on in the forest to the north east of here.
Bern Avec looks gravely at the elf
Baldrik: What roomers have you heard Stranger?
Teldathan: A few. I've heard tale of wolves, a famous ghost murderer and some gruesome murders, the likes of which should probably not be described.
Baldrik beckons Teldathan to join them at the table
Teldathan raises an eyebrow.
Baldrik: Where do you hail from Teldathan?
Gwynn shrinks a little in his seat as they address the elf
Teldathan (turning back to Baldrik): perhaps I have found my information.
Steve (Teldathan): ok, scratch that.. I managed to get confused here
Gwynn: 2d6+4
chad (Gwynn): and that roll, as well
Campaign saved.
Mike (Baldrik): d20+1
Teldathan: I'm come from the forest of Tethyr in the south. And yourself?
Baldrik: From Hemel
Baldrik: Are you a fammed hunter, or trapper by chance? Come to trap this ghost wolf no doubt?
Teldathan (smiling): I tasted some wine from there. I've made a note to pick some up for my father before I go back.
Teldathan shakes his head.
Baldrik (relaxing): Yes, our wine is quite nice
Teldathan: I'm certainly not famous. I simply told some people I would look into their problems. My father trained me as a scout, and I am now seeking to put that training to use.
Barian: And what problems are those that you are looking into?
Baldrik: This ghost wolf seems a much larger threat than any goblins. Perhaps I should help you, if you feel I could be an asset.
Teldathan (looking around at the others at the table): Murders. Disappearing Hunters. The strange ghostly assassin. To be honest, I don't really know.
Teldathan: Certainly. I came here because I heard that the militia around here was looking into problems and were short on people.
Gwynn (somewhat annoyed): Our once quiet Dutchie is home to a manner of mysteries at the moment
Campaign saved.
Barian (flash of anger): Undead? is this what you speak of? Perhaps we should join forces. The Church would be most interested in a Ghostly Assassin
Teldathan: So I hear. I have heard tale of organized goblins as well.
Baldrik: Goblins don't organize
Gwynn: But they can be organized, unfortunately
Baldrik: Is it true that the militia is short handed these day Gwynn?
Teldathan (smiling): Calm down cleric. I've never seen any undead, and I won't believe that this is actually any ghost until I do see it. Still, I can relay the story to you some time.
Gwynn: Aye, though it is not a matter or advertisement.
Gwynn: I can have you all hired on by the end of the day, if you genuinely wish to assist our town
Teldathan: At any rate, if you fellows are looking into these mysterious happenings, I would be more than happy to lend you my sword and eyes. If that means joining this militia, so be it.
Barian (smiles): I shan't be joining the militia, but as I am working for the Baron currently I will be more than happy to help.
Baldrik: If the militia will put me up in a nice room, and feed me thrice daily, you can count me in.
Gwynn looks to Baldrik and raises an eyebrow
Baldrik: Though my stay will not be perminant
Gwynn: I can try to make special allowances, perhaps have you hired on special terms, though the decision will not be mine, of course
Meanwhile...
You've been driven out of your home, out of your city, and out of your very own wealth. You've lived through some rough times these last few months, but your determination and pure will has given you the strength to press on. It was only last week that you realized that you were not the only one who suffered from such a similar fate. You've heard of a man named Gilbert Hinton. He too was a prospering merchant who had his life ripped away from him, metaphorically speaking. It got to the point that the other nobles were looking to assassinate him since he had grow to being such a thorn in their sides. Gilbert had no choice but to go into hiding. You've managed to secure some information on Gilbert's whereabouts. The last time anyone had ever heard or seen him, he was in the town of Cambe. This last sighting of him was 5 years ago, but at least it's a start.
Campaign saved.
With Gilbert's knowledge and skills, he would be an invaluable source of information for you. He knew almost every noble in your home city with a great deal of intimacy. Although things have changed since he was a noble, he still would know the mechanics of how things worked and would know certain details that you would have no way of knowing.
You make your way down the well trodden road and see the town of Cambe in the distance. Surely someone would know where Gilbert is, but who? You must tread carefully; although it would be unlikely, the nobles who tried to assassinate Gilbert Hinton may still be looking for him. Spies could be lurking anywhere, especially if the received the same information about Gilbert's whereabouts that you did.
Damien: walks the final distance into town
You make your way into town. The streets are all but empty. A tavern sits to your left and a large stone manor is atop a hill off in the distance.
Damien steps up to the taver entrance and peers in
Campaign saved.
The tavern is practically full. Spirits seem to be down, but it is not completely depressing.
Damien: walks up and place a silver on the bar
What do you need?
Bern Avec: what do you need?
Damien: An ale my good dwarf, and just a simple question answered.
Damien: Have you been in this fair town long?
Steve (Teldathan): hmm... I'd probably "look" early 20s
Bern Avec: Aye, that i have. Long before you we're in diapers.
Damien: Hehe I see, then perhaps you can help me. I'd be looking for someone that was seen in these parts but 5 years ago. Being the bar keep here, I hope that you can help me.
Campaign saved.
Bern Avec: That depends if he drinks or not?
Damien: Well he went by the name of Gilbert Hinton, not sure if he drank or not however. Perhaps you have heard of him?
Bern Avec scratches chin
Bern Avec: nope... that name don't sound familiar.
Damien: Do you happen to know anyone that may know of this person?
Gwynn 's ears perk up at the mention of Gilbert Hinton
Gwynn lowers his eyes to his drink and attempts to Detect Evil on Damien
Bern Avec: hmmm... not really. You could go try over at the Inn but if he lived here, he probably didn't stay there.
no aura is revealed.
Damien: Thank you good sir.
Gwynn starts back, puzzled
Campaign saved.
Damien Places another silver on the bar for the trouble and finishes his drink
Gwynn (stands slowly): Excuse me, I will be but a moment
Teldathan nods to Gwynn
Baldrik: Well your up, could you grab me a drink?
Baldrik smiles
Gwynn (smiling): Of course, another round
Gwynn approaches Damien from behind
Teldathan (grimacing): No ale for me thanks. Just water I suppose.
Gwynn tries Detect Evil again
Baldrik (whispers to Barian): I've never met an orc whith such a prety name before
Barian (leans to Baldrik): 'Tis true
Gwynn (loudly, attempting to startle Damien): Bern! Two ale and two water, please.
Campaign saved.
Damien (startled) turns to face who just said yelled
Gwynn (nodding): Apologies, sir.
Damien: looks the half-orc up and down
Gwynn: I was just about to buy some ale for new friends over there, would you care to join us.
Gwynn: Please, it is on me.
Bern Avec: Gwynn, what will it be?
Gwynn: Three ale, I suppse, and two water, please
Bern Avec: commin' right up.
Damien: And what would this free drink cost me in the end Sir......?
Baldrik: Who's ordering water?
Teldathan raises a hand.
Gwynn: Only a bit of your time. It's an apology for my overly loud tone
Baldrik (shrugs): why?
Barian shrugs his shoulders
Teldathan (politely): Ale is... an aquired taste.
Damien: Well in that case, I accept.
Baldrik (yells): I'll drink his ale Gwynn
Gwynn nods to Damien and motions him to the table
Teldathan chuckles.
Damien follows Gwynn to the table
Gwynn: My name is Gwynn, and the other lads will introduce themselves
Baldrik: Baldrik
Barian: Greetings. I am Barian
Barian smiles
Barian nods as well
Campaign saved.
Teldathan (looking towards the newcomer): I'm Tel'Dathan. Pleased to meet you.
Damien (nods to everyone at the table): And my name is Damien.
Baldrik: Are you from around these parts Damien?
Damien (turns to Gwynn): I thank you once again for the ale.
Gwynn: Say no more.
Damien: Not from this town i'm afraid, just a traveler passing through.
Barian (chuckles): We seem to be drawing quite a diverse crowd this evening
Teldathan: Indeed
Gwynn (seriously): There is fate in it, I should think
Baldrik: This is the passer by table
Damien: Is that so? Then I take it you all, aside Gwynn here, are not from these parts.
Baldrik: Correct
Barian (nods at Gwynn): Fate indeed.. The Gods work mysteriously.
Teldathan (chuckles): No, I'm from Tethyr to the south.
Baldrik: We've all just conspired to join the local milita, and put an end to their local trubles.
Baldrik: You've come at just the oprotune time, to sign up.
Damien: I have no interest to join the local militia i'm afaird, no offence Gwynn.
Damien: Just seeking someone.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn (raises hands): None taken
Gwynn: And who might that be, Damien?
Damien: First a question, have you been here long?
Gwynn (simply): Not much more than one year, in service to the militia just as long.
Damien: Ahhh, then the chances of you hearing of this person is slim.
Damien: But what the heck, his name is Hinton, Gilbert Hinton to be exact.
Gwynn: Perhaps, though I meet my fair shair on the roads
Gwynn (intrigued): Gilbert Hinton? How do you know him?
Damien (says in Elven to Tel'Dathan): I'm sure they have wine if you do not find the ale to your liking.
Damien: Just someone who I was told had some information I was looking for.
Damien: I do not know him personally.
Teldathan (smiling politely - in Elven): I'm sure they do, but it's been a long trek the last few days. Perhaps another night.
Gwynn: Ah, I see. You were preceded here by another person seeking him.
Damien nods toward Teldathan
Gwynn: He claimed to be here on assignment from Gilbert's family.
Campaign saved.
Damien (raises and eyebrow): Really? Did you happen to catch a name, perhaps a discription?
Gwynn: No name. He did not leave a good impression.
Damien: I see....
Damien (with hopes): Human?
Gwynn (quietly, but making eye contact with Damien): He looked to be a full-blooded orc
Gwynn returns eyes to water
Damien curses under his breath
Teldathan (looking to Gwynn): Is this... man likely to return?
Barian (curious): Yes? Just who is he?
Damien (thinks to himself): So he did make it here before me, bah, that was to be expected. Hopefully he does not find him before I.
Gwynn: I am not sure if he will return. I believe it was made known that he was not very welcome
Damien: Did he happen to be with anyone at the time you saw him?
Gwynn: Not that I saw; he walked alone
Campaign saved.
Bern Avec: Alright boys, Last call.
Baldrik: I'll have one more, if someone will carry me to the inn
Gwynn: Was I supposed to look into the ambush today?
Teldathan (smiles): I'm sure it can be arranged.
Baldrik (points at Gwynn with his eyes): Another round?
Teldathan: Although I don't exactly have a room at the inn yet, so I should really go get one.
Baldrik: As should I
Baldrik: I nearly forgot
Damien: And I as well.
Barian (stands): I believe that I shall retire as well. I must pray.
Gwynn: I must be back to the barracks, all, but I hope to still have your help in the bright and sober light of morning. Can you meet me here after your first meal?
Teldathan (nods): Of course.
Baldrik smiles
Baldrik: naturally
Damien (looks over to Gwynn as he stands): Thank you for the drink.
Damien: Help in the morning?
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: Aye, Damien. There are a number of matters that must be tended to in the coming days. If you require work to help fund your seach, you might consider stopping here for a spell
Damien: Hmmm, I may take you up on that offer, but for now I make my exit. Evening everyone.
Damien turns and leaves the tavern
Gwynn: Sleep well, and may the gods watch over you
Baldrik follows Damien out
Teldathan: Well Baldrik, you and I are off to the tavern then?
Baldrik: Indeed
Gwynn: I would be happy to guide you there
Baldrik: Do you know the way?
Gwynn: It is not far
Teldathan: No... afraid not.
Baldrik: exelent
Baldrik: Thanks again Gwynn
Gwynn (motions for them to follow): Not at all
Barian: I shall see you tomorrow
Barian leaves for the manor
Each of retire to your own devices. Those of you who get room at the inn pay the keeper 1 gold. The others retire to the barracks and Manor. The night passes uneventfully.
Baldrik wakes much latter than usual. Tends to his morning studying, memorizing his daily spells, and heads down for his continental breakfast
Campaign saved.
After your first meal of the day, you each return to the White Egg Tavern. Bern is serving breakfast. The bar is closed.
Teldathan spends his hours in the Reverie, then peacefully tends to his gear before heading down for an early breakfast.
Barian: Good Morning all. I trust you are all well this moring.
Baldrik: I've been betteer actually, but I belive it is a good morning
Gwynn: Indeed. A fine day to set to task.
Teldathan (nods): It's a nice day outside. It will be a fine day to travel.
-> gwynn: can you see this
Damien walks in last
Damien: I believe I will have to take you up on that off Gwynn.
Damien: offer*
Gwynn: quachie Can you see this Quachie?
Gwynn: no, that went to you I assume, Jeff :)
Gwynn (brightening): Good, good.
-> gwynn: Feng Shu has instructed you to divide 10 gp per day to those you have within your services. They can keep anything they find except for the items in the shipment and any treasure found, 20% must be given to the Baron.
Teldathan (smiling): Welcome Damien
Gwynn: Now, the tasks at hand are legion. There is, as I understand it, an o'erturned cart, as well as the recent ambush and theft of weapons and armour. The two may very well be related.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: Excellent. That came through loud and clear :)
Damien (smiles back): Good morning Tel'Dathan
Baldrik: I've not heard of this theft? Could you elaberate?
Gwynn: Of course
Gwynn: A trader named Gorrath, you may know him from Hemel, has very recently entered into a contract to supply Cambe with arms. His first shipment, however, never arrived, despite him being here ready to present it to the Baron with much fanfare
Teldathan frowns
Baldrik: How long ago was this?
Baldrik: The cart I descovered appeared to belong to farmers. Some of their grain was left a sudner.
Gwynn: Just two days ago
Teldathan: Were there any guards traveling with this Caravan?
Baldrik: None that I saw. There were but two slain men present.
Baldrik: No arms about them
Gwynn: Aye, the guard was doubled on the arms shipment, from what I understand
Teldathan shakes his head.
Baldrik: And you belive this to be the work of goblins?
Barian (frowns): That is terrible news indeed
Baldrik (motioning as if in quotation): "orgainize" goblins
Gwynn: There has been recent goblin activity, though I expect this situation is more... complicated. I am not at liberty to elaborate here and now, but more will be revealed as we pursue the chase
Teldathan: How does one... Attacking Caravans that have several guards is nigh impossible.
Teldathan (mutters): or at least should be...
Baldrik: quite right
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: Given proper preparation and information, little is impossible
Gwynn: And that, I am afraid, is exactly what they had
Teldathan nods at Gwynn.
Damien: A mole?
Teldathan: How do we want to begin this search then?
Gwynn (nods ever so slightly): We should save this talk for the road
Barian: Perhaps we should investigate the site that Baldrik found
Teldathan: Agreed.
Barian: If they are related there may be clues
Damien (looks around): Quite.
Baldrik: Yes, I can show you the site
Gwynn: I will at least tend to the bodies there. How far is it from here, Baldrik?
Baldrik: What terms of employment are you offering?
Baldrik: It's not far from here.
Teldathan smiles at Baldrik
Baldrik: An early morning's walk
Gwynn (seriously): I can offer 2 gold 5 silver a day. Any arms we locate must be returned to the baron, though he requires only a one fifth stake in anything else we find. These are the best terms the town can offer.
Teldathan (nodding): It will pay for my expenses. I require little more.
Baldrik: That is acceptable to me. I suggest we pool our 5 silver, for beer celibrations when we recover these arms.
Damien: That is sufficient.
Baldrik: May we also take refuge at the barraks during the nights?
Campaign saved.
Teldathan (raising an eyebrow to Baldrik): and wine?
-> gwynn: no for the barracks
Baldrik (sighing): of course
Baldrik: I should also like to visit my family's estate, when this dirty work is over. I imagine it has been overun by goblins by now.
Gwynn: While we do not expect you take orders as regular men, you should recognize that your employment is subject only to the whim of Feng Shu, and should he find problem with your actions, you may be dismissed without notice
Gwynn: I regret that the barracks are mostly full up
Damien (looks at Baldrik): Family estate?
Baldrik: Yes, I traveled here to stay with my cusins, the Rookwood family.
Gwynn raises eyebrows
Teldathan: I will ensure that I don't disrespect Feng Shu
Baldrik: They were quite wealthy in these parts.
chad (Gwynn): ignore the eyebrow raising :)
Baldrik: Though I understand they have left their estate behind, and left for greener pastures I imagine
Damien (eyes Baldrik cooly): Cousins you say?
Barian (serious to Gwynn): I'm afraid that my vows to the Church will not allow me to join your militia. However as I am here at the Baron's request I shall aid you in whatever manner you need.
Baldrik: Yes, My father's brother, steaded here.
Baldrik: Though they have not spoke in many years.
Campaign saved.
Damien: I see. Then I pray that you find them soon, or some news of them.
Barian: Shall we make for the site then? We can continue our discussions as we walk?
Baldrik: Perhaps, you gentlemen can excort me to their estate at some time in the future.
Baldrik: Yes, I will lead you to the site
Teldathan (nods): I believe so. This farmer's caravan is close to the city, yes?
As you all sit around in the White Egg, the door swings open.
Baldrik Points down the road
Baldrik: This way
Baldrik: I'ts not far
Barian looks to the door
Damien turns and looks at what opened the door
Gwynn closes eyes and hopes it's not Barker
Mike (Baldrik): is in total vertigo
Roth Hindelgrass: wearing the garb of a town militia, a man in his mid 40s walks intothe room
Gwynn nods to Roth
Roth Hindelgrass nods to Gwynn
Baldrik spins slowly towards the door
Gwynn: We were just leaving, Hindlegrass
Roth Hindelgrass: Yes, I know. And I will be accompanying you.
chad (Gwynn): Stink lines?
Teldathan stands up and moves away from the table.
Gwynn (surprised): Oh?
Baldrik: Who is this Gwynn?
Roth Hindelgrass: don't worry, you'll still be in charge. I'm just... supervising.
Damien (whispers to Gwynn): who is this man.
Baldrik eyes up Roth
Gwynn: Sorry, gentlemen. Roth Hindelgrass is my superior in the militia.
Gwynn (pointing to each in turn): Roth, this is Barian, Tel'Dathan, Baldrik, and Damine
Damien: I see, do they not trust you to handle this situation?
Baldrik: Well met.
Roth Hindelgrass: I'm sergeant Hindelgrass.
Teldathan nods towards Roth
Campaign saved.
Barian: Greetings Roth. I am Brother Barian.
Roth Hindelgrass sweeps his gaze across the party... disreguards them and turns to Gwynn
Teldathan (looks): at Baldrik and raises an eyebrow.
Roth Hindelgrass: I think you've wasted enough time here.
Steve (Teldathan): /that should have been an action.
Baldrik looks at Teldathan and shrugs
Gwynn: Indeed. We should acquire a mule or horse, and make our way to the cart
Mcgarnagle: you can get a horse from the Manor's stables...
Baldrik: If we find the arms we're after, we'll need a cart
Gwynn: Sergeant, since you are the most adept rider, perhaps you would care to meet up on the road?
Gwynn: After you've picked up the horse, that is?
Roth Hindelgrass: where would you have me go on this road?
Gwynn looks to Baldrik politely
Baldrik It's just over the hill
Baldrik: There are plenty of tracks leading off the road
Roth Hindelgrass: I see... I will meet you there shortly. I suggest you don't dotle.
Gwynn (looking away): Of course not, sir.
Campaign saved.
You all head towards the overturned wagon while Roth heads to the manor.
Gwynn On the way, Gwynn quietly warns the others to be wary of Roth
Baldrik (whispering): what is there to be wary of?
Barian (curious): We have reason to be wary?
Baldrik: (whispering)
Gwynn looks back over his shoulder and shakes his head
Teldathan: Should I follow him?
Gwynn: I don't think that's necessary yet. I am happy to have him as close as possible, and I expet he will return shortly
Teldathan nods.
You all come upon a part of the road that has tracks leading off into a grove.
Barian (nods): Very well. We will be vigilant
Gwynn: Thank you, all.
Baldrik: This is the place. Just follow the tracks
Damien looks around for bodies and a cart
Barian: tracks? (looks to Tel)
Teldathan points off in the direction the tracks go.
Barian heads into the grove
Baldrik follows
Damien follows
Gwynn follows in, last
Teldathan stays by Baldrik, watching for signs of activity
chad (Gwynn): or second last :)
Campaign saved.
You head only a short distance into the grove where you come upon an over turned wagon. You see an empty barrel tipped over, a few scattering of grain still visible. two bodies, both with arrows in their chests lie motionless.
Teldathan grimaces and looks to Barian.
Baldrik (looks feint): as the smell of the bodies crosses his nose
Gwynn (wincing): I am happy to have your help in this regard, cleric
Barian: heads to the bodies. Makes the symbol of the scales on their foreheads and whispers a prayer to Kelemvor
Barian: yes, we should make sure that they receive the proper rites
Baldrik waits a good deal back, and looks like he's fighting back the urge to vomit
Gwynn: We might load them on the horse and take them to a proper cemetary, if that is more fitting
Teldathan: 2
Damien (ignores the bodies and turns to Gwynn): Are the goblins normally attacking farmers?
Steve (Teldathan): ignore that, sorry
Gwynn: I am not sure who is responsible for this mess. But I am a soldier, not a detective
Barian (looks to Gwynn): Do you know them? Do they have family here?
Teldathan checks the area for any signs of activity.
Gwynn: do I know either of them?
Mcgarnagle: make a survival check
Teldathan: Survival [1d20+6 = 15]
Teldathan: Survival [15]
Gwynn (grimly): Do I know either of them? That is a good question. I am not sure how much is left
-> gwynn: no
Barian: Perhaps you can have some men come back for them. I have said prayers over them. That will suffice for now. Their memory will be better served if we work to find who ended their lives in this untimely manner.
Gwynn: I can't place the faces I see, but that is not saying much
Campaign saved.
You search the area and you determin that the wagon was attacked only a few days before. There are clear tracks all around and it appears that the horses were lead off with some other tracks.
Baldrik: Teldathan, perhaps you can disceren which direction the ambushers left in.
Baldrik: I attempted the same last night, but had no success.
Teldathan (nodding): It appears that the horses were led off along this direction, but I lose the tracks amongst some others. We could just travel this way in hopes that I can pick them up again.
You all hear the squeak of a wagon wheel stop back at the road.
Gwynn: I fear I must wait for...
Gwynn heads towards the road
Roth Hindelgrass meets you mid way between the wagon and road
Gwynn: Two bodies. Farmers.
Roth Hindelgrass (sadly): do you recognize them?
Gwynn: No.
Gwynn: Sir.
Roth Hindelgrass: well, lets load them onto the wagon.
Gwynn: nods and heads back to the others
Roth Hindelgrass follows Gwynn back to overturned wagon
Roth Hindelgrass crunches nose at the smell
Gwynn: If we can get these loaded, we might be on our way
Damien: What kind of arrows are they that were used?
Teldathan stifles a grimace and moves to pick up one of the bodies.
Gwynn looks and shrugs
Damien looks at Gwynn and Roth
Barian: Yes, Sergeant... Perhaps you could transport the bodies back to town for me. I can perform the Last Rites when we return?
Roth Hindelgrass: gwynn, there are some blankets back at the wagon. we can cover the bodies.
Campaign saved.
Baldrik: I'll go get the blankets
Baldrik heads towards the road
Roth Hindelgrass (stares at bodies): y--yeah...
Roth Hindelgrass shakes head
Barian heads to one of the bodies and motions for Gwynn to help
Teldathan picks up one of the farmers and heads toward the wagon.
Roth Hindelgrass: I'll take the bodies back to the manor. we have everything you'll need there.
Gwynn: bends down to help lift it. Perhaps we can wait for the blanket, Roth.
Baldrik returns with two blankets around his shoulders.
Baldrik (droping the blankets): Here you guys go.
Barian: Thank you
Gwynn spreads a blanket beside what was once a farmer
Roth Hindelgrass helps Gwynn lift farmer onto blanket
Teldathan sets the body down on one of the blankets, wraps it up and carries it to the cart.
Gwynn shoulders the other body and takes it to the wagon
Damien: I noticed you were a little squeemish before there Baldrik, never seen rotten corpses before?
Barian: Thank you for tending to these fallen men Sergeant. (smiles)
Baldrik stays a good distance away from the bodies
Baldrik: I don't care much for them.
Roth Hindelgrass nods
Roth Hindelgrass: What do you intend to do now, Gwynn?
Roth Hindelgrass (angrily): your tounge, boy!
Baldrik: Me?
Baldrik: I just mean the smell gets to me
Gwynn: There is a possible trail leading away from here. There is also the matter of the arms shipment. Is anything more known about that, Sergeant?
Roth Hindelgrass: show some respect
Barian (heads back to Baldrik): Do not fear. Although these men died untimely, their souls are with the Gods now. They have seen Kelemvor's just judgement.
Campaign saved.
Damien (whispers to Baldrik): Sure is bossy isn't he.
Roth Hindelgrass shakes head
Baldrik nods
Roth Hindelgrass: you can keep following this trail. I'll return to the manor. If you don't find anything or if you go on another lead, come and get me.
Gwynn: Yes, sir. And thank you for your help.
Roth Hindelgrass: yeah.
Teldathan (looking towards Gwynn): Where to?
Roth Hindelgrass gets onto wagon and eases the cart back to town.
Gwynn watches for a long time after Roth leaves, grinding his teeth
Barian: I figure it is best to keep him away from our investigation if you are unsure of him
Damien (snickers): Not too fond of him are yah Gwynn.
Gwynn (snapping back): Hopefully, Tel'Dathan can find some manner of trail again
Gwynn: I would agree, Barian. And... no, no I am not, Damien.
Teldathan (taken aback): Umm.. of course. The trail went off in this direction.
Teldathan points.
Gwynn (talking as they follow their capable scout): I must admit that this process would not be so easy without men of such talent. It is not common to find such remarkable characters coincidentally
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: I believe that Tyr has smiled upon me and the town of Cambe
Teldathan (looking up from the tracks): It is quite the coincidence. But a welcome one.
You follow the tracks of the horses. Every now and again, you see tracks of some smaller humanoids. The trail is not too difficult to follow, for now.
Mike (Baldrik): what type of humaniods?
Mike (Baldrik): never mind, we just see the tracks
Mike (Baldrik): I need to read the whole sentance
You've been travelling for well over 2 hours when the trail crosses another, less traveled road.
Mcgarnagle: make a tracking roll please.
Teldathan bends down to examine the tracks, making sure he picks the correct ones.
Teldathan: Survival [1d20+6 = 12]
Teldathan: Survival [12]
Damien (looks around): What lives in these areas?
You search the road but can't figure out which tracks are the ones you've been following. Perhaps with more time you will be able to pick up the trail again.
Campaign saved.
Teldathan (looking towards the group): I'm afraid the tracks blend here. If I study it for a while, I might be able to pick it up again.
Baldrik: Knowledge, Nature [1d20+8 = 25]
Baldrik: Knowledge, Nature [25]
Gwynn: We are able to wait, if you think it might help
Teldathan (nods): It should.
Baldrik: The land here is similar the Hemel, I'm sure the same creatures live here as there
Teldathan: Survival [1d20+6 = 10]
Gwynn: I'm afraid I don't often stray too far from the road, so I'm not sure what such creatures might be
Steve (Teldathan): Blarg
Teldathan: Survival [10]
You all rest awhile on the road side and let the ranger do his work. After an hour's worth of searching, the trail still remains hidden
Teldathan (frustrated): I'm... not sure. There's a lot of traffic here.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: No matter. This may not even be related to the other ambush.
Barian: That is a good point Gwynn
Gwynn: Let's us make our way to the other site; perhaps there remains more clues there
Teldathan nods towards Gwynn.
Damien: Agreed
Barian: Very well. Lead on
Gwynn: Thank you regardless, Tel'Dathan
Teldathan takes one last, frustrated look at the crossroads and follows Gwynn.
Baldrik: Where to now?
You cut across country back towards the road to Hemel. It takes close to three more hours to get to this location. You are unsure where the wagon was attacked exactly but searching may find a clue.
Gwynn: It happened somewhere in these parts
Damien: Everyone should spread out and look around, should make things easier.
Barian: Good plan
Gwynn nods agreement
Teldathan looks for signs of a struggle.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: Search [1d20+1 = 2]
Teldathan: Search [1d20+2 = 9]
chad (Gwynn): W))T
Teldathan: Search [9]
Barian: Search [1d20 = 7]
Baldrik: Search [1d20+4 = 17]
Baldrik: Search [17]
Damien: Search [1d20+2 = 15]
Damien: Search [15]
You all spread out across the road and search for some sort of clue. Baldrik happens upon a broken sword lying in the ditch.
Baldrik (shouts): Tel'Dathan, You may find some tracks near here. I found a broken sword.
Teldathan rushes over.
Teldathan: Good work
The grass near by looks as tho many have stepped near by.
Teldathan: Survival [1d20+6 = 25]
Teldathan: Survival [25]
You easily find a trail that leads off through the wilderness, heading north East. you see tracks to some sort of wheeled vehicle, horses, and numerous humanoids. Well over 15.
Campaign saved.
Teldathan (pointing): It looks like a big group of them headed off in that direction.
Baldrik: Good work
Gwynn (impressed): Well done
Damien: How many men were guarding this caravan Gwynn
Gwynn: Double the usual, though I am not certain how many that might be
The sun is slowly sinking into the western sky.
Teldathan (nods.): Thank you... we should try and hurry.
Barian: If we follow this trail we should be careful. Is it wise to start now?
Barian: The trail is already a few days old. Another should not matter much.
Damien: I am always careful good brother, but that doesn't always help.
Damien pats Barian on the back
Barian smiles
Teldathan (nods.): We can return here tomorrow. I should be able to pick this track up again now that I know where it is.
Barian: What do you think Gwynn?
Baldrik: To Cambe?
Teldathan looks to Gwynn
Damien: Perhaps Tel'Dathan and I should scout ahead, we can use the night as good cover incase we stumble upon the large group you speak of.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn looks up slightly and weighs options
Teldathan: We could also camp here so as to get an early start.
Teldathan: Then Damien and I could look ahead as well.
Gwynn: I would prefer to press on, if Tel'Dathan has confidence in his eyes
Teldathan (smiling): They haven't failed me yet.
Baldrik: Yes, let's press on until we loose the trail
Barian: Very Well. Lead on Tel'Dathan, Damien
Teldathan heads back to the tracks and begins walking alongside them.
You follow the scout along. The trail leads ever onward toward the north east. You continue on for 2 hours when you see off in the distance, a dense, ancient forest. the sky is painted in soft hues of purple and blue.
-> gwynn: this is Langtoor Forest.
Gwynn (slightly dismayed): I feared our trail might come to this
Baldrik: What is this place?
Barian (curious): To which?
Damien: It's just forest.
Gwynn: This is known as Langtoor Forest, and it is becoming more and more known each week
Campaign saved.
Teldathan pauses briefly at the mention of Langtoor forest
Baldrik: Ah yes, this is the place Tel'Dathan spoke of
Barian: Well perhaps we have fewer missions than we realize
Teldathan (quietly): perhaps if someone has a light, this would be the time to strike it.
Damien: So this is the place with the murders?
Barian: Will that not give us away to watching eyes?
Teldathan nods to Damien.
Gwynn: Disappearances, some murders. All manner of things, if you are to believe the tales
Damien: [1d10 = 6]
Teldathan: It may, but if we are attacked by goblins, we will need to see them.
Damien: I believe what I see and hear with my eye's and ears, nothing more.
Baldrik: Yes, lets keep a small fire burning.
Barian: I do have a lamp.
Barian pulls lamp out of pack
Teldathan: Well, if there are no complaints, the tracks lead this way.
Gwynn: I am happy to lead with Tel'Dathan. We will better off without light, I think
Barian puts lamp away before lighting it
Gwynn: Do have the lamp ready, however, Barian. It is a good idea
Baldrik: I think it would be best to camp the night before we reach Langtoor Forest. If there is any truth to the stories. I can assure you that wolves are more active at nightt, while humans are usually not.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: I... am not accustomed to sleeping out of doors. Do we have necessary provisions?
Damien: True. I guess the open grass and night sky will have to do tonight, Gwynn.
Damien: I did not bring much in the ways of provisions myself. Didn't expect to be out this far.
Baldrik: Same, my belly is starting to growl a bit.
Barian: I do have some trail rations that we can shar
Damien: But I will say that it is much more comfortable than the hard streets....
Barian reaches into pouch and hands out rations
Gwynn looks to others and follows their lead, trying not to seem obvious
Teldathan: I should be able to provide food for at least 4 of us.
Baldrik smiles, and looks at Barian. Baldrik is now rubbing his belly
Steve (Teldathan): By taking 10 on a Survival check I can provide food for 4 people.
Teldathan: Barian, if you want to eat your rations, I can find food for the rest of us.
Campaign saved.
You set up camp with the forest forboading off in the distance. The moon is brightly shining across the landscape. Teldathan returns after an hour with food enough for 4.
Barian heads off to pray to Kelemvor for spells
Damien: Shall we set up a watch?
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: I should think so, yes, Damien
Teldathan: I need to rest for four hours. I can watch the rest of the time.
Mike (Baldrik): Baldrik forgets his Charm Person spell so it canl be changed in the morning
Baldrik: I will require a full nights rest.
Baldrik: I didn't sleep very well last night.
Baldrik: Or atleast I woke up tired
Bryce (Barian): I'm switching up a spell as well during prayer. taking an extra true strike
Damien: hehe
Teldathan chuckles.
Barian: I shall take the first watch then... (shakes his head, chuckling)
Gwynn: Wake me when you are ready for rest
Teldathan unrolls his bedroll and lies down, meditating.
Mike (Baldrik): also going to drop prestidigation spell
You all settle down to rest for the evening, Barian taking first watch.
Barian: Listen [1d20+3 = 14]
Close to the end of your watch, you hear some sort of noise coming from the direction of the forest.
Barian shakes Gwynn awake
Campaign saved.
Barian (whispers): shhhh.... something by the forest
Gwynn: awakens with a snort and appears very nervous. He looks angrily at Barian and then comes to a more calm place
Gwynn looks to where Barian is pointing
chad (Gwynn): (Darvision 60')
chad (Gwynn): Darkvision, as well
looking towards Langtoor, you see a speck of light moving just inside the tree line. The light disappears behind a tree and reappears on the otherside.
Barian (whispers): Wake the others?
Gwynn (quietly): Yes, I think so
Gwynn helps Barian rouse the others
Barian moves to the rest of the party, shaking them awake quietly
Teldathan opens his eyes and blinks a couple of times.
Baldrik yawns and rubs his eyes
Teldathan (whispers): Trouble?
Damien rubs eyes and looks around.
Baldrik: what, what?
You see a second light appear in the tree line not terribly far from the first. It is moving in the same direction.
Gwynn: There is a light in the woods. Tel'Dathan, do you feel up to following it?
Barian (whispers): lights... by the forest
Baldrik: Show me where the lights are
Teldathan nods towards Gwynn
Campaign saved.
Barian points towards the lights
Teldathan: Baldrik, you interested in joining me?
Gwynn: Is anyone else quiet?
Damien: I can be if needed.
Baldrik (whispers): indeed
Barian (whispers): I am not known for my stealth unfortunately.
Gwynn: Perhaps you two can set off together? We need information more than we need bodies
Teldathan nods.
Damien: Agreed.
Gwynn: Barian and I can remain at a distance. Do not hesitate to call if it escalates to combat
Baldrik (whispers): allright
Teldathan (whispers): of course.
the three of you stay crouched and try to move quickly across the pasture. The slop of the hill up towards Langtoor proves to provide little cover but there are sparse areas of bushes.
Teldathan: Move Silently [1d20+5 = 21]
Teldathan: Move Silently [21]
Baldrik: Move Silently [1d20+4 = 21]
Baldrik: Move Silently [21]
Damien: Move Silently [1d20+6 = 22]
Gwynn quietly begins doning his banded mail
Damien: Move Silently [22]
Bryce (Barian): Also dons armour quietly
Campaign saved.
You all skillfully reach the tree line of Langtoor. The light sources are only 20 feet in and 10 feet seperates them. You pear around the cover of a tree and see two humanoids clad in armour walking slowly through the forest.
Teldathan motions to walk along the treeline with the lights.
Baldrik follows Teldathan's directions
Damien follows
The three of you walk along the tree line, darting from tree to tree. Upon closer inspection, you realize that the two armoured men are hobgoblins. They appear to be on some sort of patrol.
Teldathan (whispers): If you want to keep following them, I can report back to Gwynn and Barian to see what Gwynn would like us to do.
Baldrik (whispers): We should probably all report back. They'll be easy enough to find again
Teldathan nods.
Campaign saved.
Damien (whispers): I agree with Baldrik, at least we know what attacked the caravan.
Mike (Baldrik): on the ephone
chad (Gwynn): the ephone? Cool!
chad (Gwynn): Totally off topic, but I have to ask Steve a question. Did you ever game with people named Vince and Lisa?
Teldathan (whispers): let's go back. This may be the break that we're looking for.
Mike (Baldrik): the ephone conversation is over
Teldathan: Move Silently [1d20+5 = 7]
Damien: Move Silently [1d20+6 = 14]
Damien: Move Silently [14]
Baldrik: Move Silently [1d20+4 = 12]
Teldathan: Move Silently [7]
Baldrik: Move Silently [12]
Mcgarnagle: [1d20 = 10]
Teldathan trips over a branch and looks back towards the Hobgoblins.
You notice the back goblin suddenly look in your direction.
Mcgarnagle: [1d20 = 17]
Damien (whispers): Hide.
Baldrik (whispers): I am hiding

Baldrik
Baldrik continues to hide
Bryce (Barian): i don't know
Barian: I also don't konw

Teldathan looks around, then wipes his greatsword on the hobgoblin and resheathes it.
Teldathan: Sorry Gwynn, I know you said no bodies.
Barian (skids to a stop): Are you all alright?
Gwynn (Looks to hobgoblins): Were there anymore?
Damien flicks the blood off his rapier and sheaths his blade
Baldrik (whispers to Gwynn): are these hobgoblins using weapons from the shipment?
Teldathan: No, that was it.
-> gwynn: You don't believe they are
Teldathan: They were on patrol, though, so someone will likely notice that they are missing.
Gwynn picks up a weapon to investigate it
Gwynn (narrows eyes): I don't think these are the same weapons, but I do know that hobgoblins were to be involved
Baldrik: I suggest we continue to wait until the break of day before venturing into the forest.
Gwynn: I'm not sure... the longer we wait, the more advance warning they have of us
Teldathan (nodding): I agree, but perhaps with a new campsite.
Damien: Well if they come to investigate the missing patrol, perhaps we should move elsewere.
Baldrik: Yes, that does make sense
Baldrik: We should keep our light sources to a minimum for the remainder of the night.
Teldathan (looking to Gwynn): Your call.
Gwynn: I don't think I'll be getting much more sleep tonight. Would you be opposed to attempting to track them back?
Campaign saved.
Teldathan: not at all
You approach the edge of Langtoor forest and hope to find tracks of the hobgoblin.
Barian: is it in character for this church to care about the souls of Hobgoblins?
Gwynn (sheathes sword): How do the rest of you feel?
Damien: I'll be a little groggy later in the day, but nothing serious.
-> barian: I don't think so. They probably view them as evil creatures.
Baldrik: I can march on.
Barian: I have yet to rest, but shall push on
Gwynn (smiles): We will make militia men of you yet, then
Barian: I wasn't sure as it was neutral... I was sort of leaning towards that idea though
Teldathan: Survival [1d20+6 = 26]
-> barian: well, if you want to. It's your call. I'll go with it.
Teldathan (pointing): That way.
Barian: no, I mean towards the not caring as much attitude. I'm good like this :-)
You find the trail easily. It leads into the dark forest of Langtoor.
Teldathan takes a deep breath and heads into the forest.
Gwynn: Perhaps we could still use scouts? I fear my armour is to our detriment
Barian: I agree. I am in the same predicament
Bryce (Barian): Wearing Scale
Damien: Agreed then, but don't stray far, we don't want a repeat of that incident, we were lucky.
Teldathan (looking up): Perhaps Damein or Baldrik could come with me and one of them could leave a trail.
Campaign saved.
Teldathan nods towards Damien.
Gwynn (nods): Take both, if you wish
Damien (looks at Baldrik): the choice is yours.
Baldrik: I'll stay in the back
Baldrik: My eyesight isn't too good in this dark
Damien (nods): so be it. Lets move Tel'Dathan.
Teldathan goes back to following the trail.
The scouts make there way through the forests. You travel for about a half an hour. A hill slops up with trees dotted on its side. You look over and see some sort of encampment.
Teldathan stops and points to the encampment.
Teldathan (whispering): Should we go get the others?
Damien (whispers): I think that would be advisable, you or me?
Teldathan (thinking): I'll go
Damien (whispers): Ok.
Teldathan hurries back to find the rest of the group.
Baldrik (whispers): What did you find?
Damien keeps an eye on the encampments and tries to spot movement
Teldathan (whispers): There's an encampment up ahead. Damien is keeping watch on it.
Gwynn nods
Campaign saved.
Barian (whispers): Hobgoblins? How many?
Gwynn: Any idea of numbers?
Teldathan: We only saw a handful, but we didn't get a good look. If people want to get into positions, we can try and sneak in and get a closer look.
Baldrik (whispers): is the camp well light?
Teldathan: It appeared they were Goblins.
Barian: Yes, perhaps you'll be able to take care of some of them before we need to awake them all
Teldathan: a fire or something near the center, but it was pretty dark around the outskirts.
Gwynn: A good plan, Barian. If there is the fire as you say, Tel'Dathan, I think we should strike now.
Teldathan (looking to Barian): if it comes to that, I suppose.
Teldathan nods to Gwynn
Gwynn: If possible, I would like retain someone for questioning. Preferably someone who knows more
Teldathan: Then perhaps Baldrik, Damien and I should move in and you and Barian can wait back a little further.
Barian: Yes, we will attempt to make it in time for the fighting this time (smiles)
Baldrik (whispers): A good plan. Lead us up to Damien
Teldathan smiles at Barian, then moves off back to Damien
Gwynn nods and represses a growl
You all climb back up the hill and see Damien lying on his stomache watching the encampment.
Mcgarnagle: make spot rolls everyone.
Teldathan (whispering to Damien): anything yet?
Teldathan: Spot [1d20+8 = 27]
Barian: Spot [1d20+3 = 10]

chad (Gwynn): They did last night
chad (Gwynn): Not sure when the next game is
When you reach the top, you see down on the other side of the hill a small encampment. Below is stone cottage. It appears to be in poor shape. The windows are all broken, some of the stones are completely missing from the wall, and the front door hangs from only one thing. The wooden roof has only sparse pieces of thatching remaining and the wood that is exposed is warped into strange patterns. A cooking fire is off to the left. You see a goblin sitting on a wood bench by the fire. Another goblin brings a black pot out of the small cottage and places it on a metal ring that sits above the fire. 10 feet away from them, a table is set up and 4 more goblins sit around it playing some sort of crude game involving sticks and round stones. To the right you see a 3 long pens, all empty. About 60 feet from the camp, closest to the base of the hill you stand on is a 20 foot tall tower made of wood. You can make out similar towers on the other three sides as well. In the tower, you see a goblin surveying the area, a crossbow armed and ready. A bell hangs above his head within easy reach. Suddenly, the goblin in the tower closest to you begins to ring the bell above his head. He looks back and shouts something in goblin.

The bell sounds loud an clear which makes your heart jump. Did the goblin guard spot you hidden in the trees? Just then, you see an exhausted man in a dark cloak running towards the camp. He runs with his head down in exhaustion and waves to the guard.
Barian (whispers insistenty): stay down!

Campaign saved.
Gwynn lets loose a growl and tries to make his way towards the camp, taking advantage of trees for cover
Teldathan: Melee attack [1d20+5 = 23]
Gwynn looks angrily and confused towards the elf

Teldathan points towards the man running in the forest.
Baldrik redies his crossbow
Gwynn darts his head around
Teldathan (whispers): I don't think he saw us. There's someone else in the trees.
Barian puts his hand on Baldriks arm
Baldrik relaxes a bit
The guard stops ringing his warning to the camp and allows the man to run past the tower into the camp. Now, you see a large hobgoblin exiting the cottage, wiping his face with a white cloth. He appears to greet the new man and goes back inside. The man in the cloak glances nervously back over the landscape and enters the cabin behind the hobgoblin.
Gwynn tries to reign in his rage by wringing the pommel of his sword
Teldathan (whispering): Do we continue with the plan?
Baldrik (whispers): It dosen't look like were going to catch them unawares
Gwynn (breathing heavily): NO! Want to know what they speak of. Someone go.
Barian (whispers): There are a lot of them. Maybe a scout only
Barian (whispers): I do not think combat is a good idea
Mcgarnagle: everyone make one more spot check please. You are far away, so you will have a large penlety. -5
Baldrik (whispers): Mabey we should return here tomorrow with more members of the milita?

Teldathan: Up to you. Do you have good ears?
Gwynn paces back and forth in a small circle
Baldrik: [1d20-5 = 3]
Baldrik: [3]
When the man who just joined the came turns back, you see that he possibely looks like Roth Hindelgrass. It isn't a 100% certainty, but he bears similarities.
Gwynn sets to grinding his teeth even harder
Teldathan watches Gwynn
Damien: Not quite as pointy as yours but good enough.
Gwynn (looks around): Who is going? Decide and go!
Barian (moves to Gwynn): Calm Gwynn... Let our scouts find out who that man was and what he is here for
Teldathan (nodding): Perhaps we should both go. Just in case.
Damien: Good idea.
Gwynn: I want to know of what they speak!
Barian: Yes, go. We will wait for you here
Damien looks to Gwynn for approval
Gwynn (to Damien): Just go!
Teldathan begins to make his way towards the camp.
Damien follows Tel'Dathan

Steve (Teldathan): Is it possible to take 10?
Steve (Teldathan): ok, that's 15
Steve (Teldathan): <--- is afraid of another 2 :P
Barian (whispers to Gwynn): Please, calm yourself. These people need you to be calm right now
Gwynn: What we need are answers!
You both make your way to the encampment. The safest path you figure is from the side of the pens.
Gwynn growls and tries to contain himself when he makes eye contact with Barian
Damien (whispers): Keep an eye on that watch tower.
Gwynn He keeps his eyes locked on Barian's, and that seems to help
Teldathan nods to Damien
Barian looks back at Gwynn as calmly as possible
you see another watchtower with a goblin on this side of the cam as well. You manage to make it to the pens unnoticed. The cabin is only 20 feet away. You hear no noise coming from it.
Damien Tries to listen in to see if he can hear what the conversation is about.
chad (Gwynn): That was a penis joke
Teldathan watches to see if the guard in the tower moves.
Damien (whispers): we have to get closer.
there is no noise from the cabin. The goblin seems content with what he's doing.
Campaign saved.
Damien quietly moves closer to the cabin
Teldathan tries to shield himself from the view of the goblin and follow Damien
You manage to get to the wall of the cabin. The door is on the side to your left and the goblins at the table is on the exact other side of the cabin.
Teldathan listens or any activity or conversation.
Steve (Teldathan): *for
Damien takes a peek into the window to see if anyone is in there
It is completely dark. you don't hear or see anyone or anything.
Campaign saved.
Damien (whispers): Could be a trap door inside going somewhere else.
Teldathan nods towards Damien
Damien looks to see if there is a hole in the wall big enough for him to get into the cabin on this side.
Teldathan (whispers): I'll check the back. See if it's any better.
Damien nods.
The back has no windows or holes. Damien can squeeze through the hole fairly easily.
Damien takes one last look into the hole, then squeezes into the cabin.
Teldathan waits for sounds inside.
You are now inside the cabin. You only see darkness.
Damien feels around in the dark along the ground, trying to find a trapdoor.
Damien: Search [1d20+2 = 5]
Damien: Search [5]
You feel around the floor but don't find and irregularities in the floor.
Campaign saved.
Damien continues searching, and even checks the walls incase there was a door we missed.
Damien walks over to the hole.
Damien (sticks his head out and whispers): I can't find or see a damn thing, come help me.
Teldathan squeezes through the hole
Teldathan (whispers): I'm not much of a searcher, though.
Damien (whispers): neither am I, let's just try and see if we can find anything.
Teldathan nods.
Damien begins searching once more.
Teldathan: Search [1d20+2 = 13]
You look around the floor and find a small lever in the corner of the cabin, hidden behind a loose stone.
Teldathan grabs Damien and directs him to the lever
Teldathan (whispers): Do we go down?
Campaign saved.
Damien crawls over and motions to go.
Teldathan pulls the lever.
You hear a small squeak come from the center of the room.
Damien looks out a window to see if it alerted a guard.
no guards seem to be alerted
Teldathan examines the center of the room to see what caused the squeak.
Damien (whispers): all good, lets go.
you crawl over and find a trap door that has oppened. You see faint light coming from below. with your low light vision, you see wood stairs leading into a cellar
Teldathan (whispers): I'll lead.
Teldathan makes his way quietly down the stairs.
Damien motions to go on.
Damien follows
Steve (Teldathan): I'll stop as soon as I hear someone talking
You go down the stairs and see a small cellar. a door across from the stairs is slightly askew. torch light flickers through the opening.
Teldathan creeps towards the door
Damien moves quietly up to the door.
You hear no noise from the other side.
Campaign saved.
Teldathan tries to peer through the door to see what is going on.
Damien watches our backs.
You see a hall way. It appears to be dug out from the earth.
Teldathan begins to open the door slowly, checking for signs of life.
You enter into a 50 foot long passage way. The musty smell of dirt lingers in this room. You notice that the walls and floor are made of earth. You can see tree roots hanging from the ceiling and snaking through the brown walls. Beams run across the roof every 5 feet or so and there are also beams of wood against the walls, floor to ceiling every 5 feet. At the end of the passage is a large wooden door.
Teldathan listens at the door.
Teldathan: Listen [1d20+8 = 24]
Teldathan: Listen [24]
On the other side of the door, you hear voices shouting and cheering. It is in an unknown language.
Teldathan (whispers): it sounds like something is going on in there. I don't know what language they are speaking, though.
Damien moves to the door and listens
Damien: Listen [1d20+4 = 14]
Damien: Listen [14]
You hear voices cheering as well but the language is unknown to you as well.
Campaign saved.
Damien (whisper): maybe we can open the door a little and see what's inside.
Teldathan nods.
Damien tries to open the door quietly.
You open the door a crack and see another short hall. about 8 feet in front of you is a port cullis.
beyond that, it seems that the hall opens into a larger room. you can't see beyond that, however.
Damien looks to see for any signs of life.
Teldathan frowns.
Damien (whispers): continue or go back?
Teldathan (whispers): Gwynn won't be happy if we have no information, but I don't see any other choice at this point.
Damien (whispers): Well I'm going to check the port cullis then come back. Maybe I can see from there what is going on.
Teldathan nods to Damien
Damien opens the door some more.
Campaign saved.
Damien: Move Silently [1d20+6 = 20]
Damien: Move Silently [20]
Quachie (Damien): woohoo!
You enter what appears to be another short hall. This hall is 10 feet wide but only 15 feet long. At the end of the hall is a port cullis blocking your path. Beyond the port cullis, you see a room. A great deal of cheering and shouting is coming from this room. The wall opposite to the door is made of stone. A small archer window is in the wall directly across from the door you just entered.
Damien moves quietly toward the far wall, keeping an eye on the slit, incase he sees movement behind it.
Damien looks through the port cullis.
you see a barrel in the cornor and a weapons rack against the wall.
Damien tries to make out any conversations.
Campaign saved.
it is in another language.
Damien peers into the bottom of the arrow slit and tries to see if he can spot anything in the room.
You see a table with chairs around it. Three goblins can be seen around the table and a fourth one standing. They all are peering into something on the table and cheering.
Damien looks around the room he is in to see if there are any levers to raise the port cullis.
you do not see any levers.
Teldathan looks towards Damien.
Damien: shakes his head at the port cullis, and holds up 4 fingers then points to the slit in the wall.
Damien then makes his way back to the door.
Teldathan makes a lifting motion and points to the port cullis
Campaign saved.
Teldathan (whispers): I can try and lift it if you want to sneak underneath. Not sure if I can do it or not.
Teldathan (whispers): unless you want to head back and grab everyone else...
Damien (whispers): it would make too much noise. We should head back and let them know what it is we saw.
Teldathan nods and begins heading back.
Damien quietly closes the door.
You make your way back out the cabin and around the camp. you reach the others with time.
Gwynn is much calmer at this point, and looks somewhat ashamed
Baldrik is fast asleep
Barian is sitting with Gwynn, waiting
Damien (pats Gwynn on the back): Feeling better I see.
Teldathan (looking towards Gwynn): There appears to be an underground passageway in the cabin.
Gwynn (looks down, embarassed): What did you see?
Baldrik begins to stir from the talking
Teldathan: Damien did most of the looking.
Gwynn: Did you hear what they spoke of?
Damien: It lead to a port cullis that we couldn't open from our side. Plus there were 4 goblins in the room next to it waiting. I'm guessing it opens from there. No sign of your Sergeant i'm afraid.
Teldathan: They spoke in some sort of tongue that I don't know. Possibly goblin.
Gwynn nods slowly
Damien: That is my guess too.
Barian (surprised): Sergeant? The man in the cloak?
Gwynn: It may well have been Roth entering earlier. I can't be certain, but...
Damien: I thought you saw. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it was him.
Campaign saved.
Teldathan: I think so as well.
Barian: well that is dire indeed. We could wait and attempt to track the cloaked man when he leaves... (looks to Gwynn)
Gwynn: But if we can catch him down there, the case will be a simple one
Baldrik (whispers): If we catch him as he leaves, it should be equally as simple
Teldathan: we can try and sneak back in - give it a shot. But if we're going to fight goblins it would be best to fight them on our terms.
Damien: If we go down there we will have to go in force.....what about the guards up top....and let's be honest, you guys aren't real stealthy looking.
Damien looks at Barian and Gwynn
Teldathan smiles.
Gwynn: True. And we cannot be sure there are not exits that we are not aware of
Barian: Baldrik is right... If we capture him leaving here, he is just as guilty... The call is yours though
Gwynn: We can lay in wait, then, attempt to ambush the ambushers. He will be required for duty soon enough. Unless he has already cut his ties...
Gwynn: Let us take up positions around the route by which he entered
Damien: A vote then, whos for going now, and whos for waiting.
Teldathan (concerned): I'm not so sure that this "other exit" theory isn't a good one. They appeared to have some sort of tunnel there.
Barian: I agree with Gwynn's plan we should wait.
Gwynn: If we go, there could be trouble
Teldathan: I'll go with whatever Gwynn decides.
Gwynn: Yet if we stay...
Baldrik (whispers): Let's make our way to the gate, and prepare an ambush for when Roth leaves.
chad (Gwynn): It could be double
Damien: Perhaps we should find the stead he rode in on...unless he walked, we can ambush him there if need be.
Damien: Away from the goblins.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: nods
Baldrik shakes his head in confirmation
Teldathan: What does it prove if we find him near his horse?
Teldathan: He could just say he was looking for us.
Barian (to Gwynn): You could have Tel stay here and tail him back to us
Gwynn: let us see if we cannot track him back from whence he entered, we will have your words that he entered
Gwynn: Tel'Dathan, if you wish to be stationed alone, you could follow him back
Teldathan (nodding): I'll do whatever is required. I can remain unseen.
Gwynn: No, why not make that Damien, so that Tel'Dathan can help us perhaps locate the possible horse
Teldathan nods
Gwynn: Will you stay, Damien?
Damien (ponders for a second): I can stay, but what if he doesn't come out this way?
Baldrik (whispers): you should be able to see which way he exits from this vantage point
Gwynn: Remain hidden until Tel'Dathan returns or your cover is compromised
Baldrik (whispers): If he leaves a different route, then let us know and we'll have to confront him in town
Gwynn looks around to see if all are in agreement
Damien (nods): Alright, but as soon as you find his steed, then someone has to let me know where you are, or I won't find you.
Gwynn: It will be done, and Tel'Dathan will be the messenger
Campaign saved.
Damien: Agreed.
Barian (nods): Good. Let us get to work?
Baldrik motions for Tel to lead the way down to the path Roth entered on
Baldrik (whispers): lets go
Gwynn Nods and makes eye contact with Damien, holding it for a while in encouragement
Teldathan leads back down to where they first saw the man enter the woods.
With your plan formed, you set out to place it in motion. Damien waits behind in hiding, while the rest follow Teldathan through the woods trying to pick up a trail. It will be a restless night, tonight.
to be continued...
Gwynn, Barian, Baldrik and Teldathan head off into the night, trying to trace back the steps of Roth through Langtoor forest. Damien remains hidden on top of the hill overlooking the goblin outpost in case Roth happens to leave before the other's return. The night has been long and restless, yet you all are prepared to do what you must to recover the stolen weapons and armor.
sphen (Gwynn): I hit it with my axe
Teldathan attempts to backtrack Roth.
Teldathan: Survival [1d20+6 = 11]
Teldathan: Survival [11]
You do pick up a trail in the forest. you are not certain that it is Roth's but it is on the same rout that he came in on.
Teldathan motions in the direction the trail comes from.
Campaign saved.
You follow the elven ranger through the woods. The path does not seem to be too difficult to follow. You can tell that whoever made it, was moving fairly fast, obviously running in some spots. The trail seems to curve in a broad arch from the encampment and out of the forest.
after travelling for close to a half hour, you get to the edge of Langtoor forest. There has been no sign of a horse or other mount.
Teldathan: Spot [1d20+8 = 9]
Teldathan: Spot [9]
Barian: [1d20+3 = 18]
Gwynn: Spot [1d20 = 10]
Barian: It seems we may have tracked ourselves
Teldathan: Survival [1d20+6 = 10]
Teldathan: Survival [10]
Gwynn raises an eyebrow
Teldathan bends down to look at the tracks again, somewhat flustered.
Campaign saved.
Teldathan: No, I'm fairly certain that our tracks are different. These ones seem to arc around our camp.
Teldathan: It's very possible, though, that whoever made these tracks followed us.
Barian: My apologies
Teldathan: Not to worry
Barian: That is a disturbing thought (looks over his shoulder)
Gwynn furrows his brow
sphen (Gwynn): How far would it take to walk/run to town?
Teldathan (pondering): I'm thinking, based on how far these tracks arc out, this person was likely trying their best to avoid coming into contact with us.
Gwynn: We can only assume that there must still be a horse nearby...
Barian: Perhaps it would be wise to setup an ambush here in the woods rather than head back out into the plain
Gwynn (also thinking out loud): Roth, or whomever it is, might still take another path back, however
Teldathan nods.
Teldathan: I think we need to keep searching for the horse. If it is Roth, I'm sure he wouldn't have travelled on foot to try and beat us.
Teldathan looks to Gwynn.
Campaign saved.
Barian: You both make excellent points. Continue on the trail then?
Gwynn: Agreed. He may, however, know that we suspect him. He might then not return to his horse or town. I think we should keep searching for the horse still.
Gwynn (nods): Lead on, brave ranger
Teldathan bends down to regain his bearings on the tracks.
You follow the path out of the trees. it takes a broad turn around the camp. The tracks seem to stay still in one small area, behind some bushes not far from where you rested only an hour ago. You can clearly see where you set camp from here.
Teldathan: Search [1d20+3 = 16]
Teldathan: Search [16]
Barian: Search [1d20 = 14]
Gwynn: Search [1d20+1 = 14]
Campaign saved.
You all look around the area, and even in the dark, you manage to find shells scattered about. These shells are those of a rare nut found in these parts.
Teldathan frowns and bends down to pick up a hanful of the nuts.
Gwynn: I'm uncomfortable with how well our camp can be seen from here
Teldathan nods.
Barian: Yes, I agree. I do believe we were being watched
The shells are empty. There are a large amount here, indicating that they were eaten over a laong period of time.
Barian: And our voyeur apparently liked nuts
Teldathan (examining the nuts): what if Roth came straight here, knowing that we would be here eventually?
Teldathan: We did waste a few hours seeking out that other path.
Barian: That seems likely. He knew exaclty where he was headed
Gwynn: Perhaps he did know we would be arriving. I'd hate to be outsmarted by him, however.
Barian: Well we haven't been yet Gwynn
Teldathan: If that's the case, though, we should get back to Damien. We won't find a horse out here.
Gwynn nods
Gwynn: Perhaps we merely had the misfortune to camp close to a manned observation point
Teldathan (looking to Gwynn): do we try to get into the camp and follow the..uhh..cloaked figure?
Campaign saved.
Gwynn grimaces
Gwynn: I don't like our odds of getting into that camp
Barian: I don't think that I would be very good at 'getting into camp'
Barian (Nods): Not without some... noise
Teldathan nods
Gwynn: Perhaps this is evidence enough? Having observed someone who several of us thought was him?
Teldathan: Well, I guess we should head back. The nuts may prove to be a useful clue, even if it's not incriminating enough.
Gwynn: Indeed, we can discuss matters on the way
Teldathan begins tracking his way back to the goblin camp.
You head back through the forest. It takes about 20 minutes to find your way back. You stand at the foot of the tree covered hill. Somewhere up top, Damien is watching.
Barian: What if you and Damien tracked him after he left, and Gwynn and I awaited you in town? We would then have proof of him being at the camp. We could confront him later with that knowledge
Gwynn: I do fear he may not return, if he was the one observing us
Teldathan (quietly): We could, although I'm not sure I like the prospect of him seeing us.
Gwynn looks again to count the guards
Barian: Ah, I see your dilemma. We could return for the Militia and take the camp. If he is caught inside, that will be incriminating enough
You count 7 goblins along with 1 hobgoblin. There may be more lurking in the shadows.
Teldathan: Perhaps - although it's a day in both directions.
Gwynn nods thoughtfully at Barian's plan
Campaign saved.
Teldathan (looking to Gwynn): is it possible for us to take the camp?
Damien (whispers): So did you find the horse?
Gwynn (to Teldathan): I am... uncertain. You are not trained troops, to be sure, and we have not faced real combat before
Teldathan (whispers): No, and I'm not sure there is a horse to be found.
Teldathan nods to Gwynn.
Damien (whispers): Well it's been pretty quiet here, nothing entered or left yet.
Barian: Is it possible to take at least some of them by surprise before the main body awakes or is aware of us?
Gwynn: Yes, though I am concerned of the alarms
Teldathan (looking to Gwynn): I am confident in my abilities, but I will defer to your leadership.
Damien (looks to Gwynn): Then what is the plan?
Gwynn seems impressed with Teldathan's bravery
Gwynn: How would feel about rushing the camp, Damien?
Gwynn (smiling): With us at your side, of course
Teldathan: Damien and I mighth be quiet enough to sneak into place ahead of time. Maybe.
Gwynn: If that could prevent a sounding of the alarms, we would be much better prepared
Barian: Yes, and having a couple in the camp could prove to be could for the confusion of the enemy
Damien (whispers): Would that be advisable? I mean, they could alert the people down below if we should attack. Unless we cut them off I suppose.
Teldathan looks to Gwynn.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: Could you fix the trapdoor closed?
Gwynn: At least for a time?
Teldathan: I could certainly stand on it to keep anyone from going down. I'm not sure whether I could fasten it shut or not.
Damien: If Tel'Dathan and myself are there, I'm certain we can prevent the goblins from entering the trapdoor.
Gwynn: You would be useful in engages the goblins, however
Gwynn: I speak a little of their tounge, perhaps I will be able to lure one or more immediately before the battle
Gwynn: We can attempt an tactical attack, hoping to press down below. Perhaps those underground will escape by another route, but that still leaves us as good as if we return now. All we need do is ensure we survive.
Teldathan: Perhaps I could start with the ones near the trapdoor and if one makes a run for it I could try and beat them to the trap door.
Damien: That's a good idea.
Teldathan nods to Gwynn.
Barian: Well if the two of you start at the trapdoor and attack towards us
Gwynn: I suspect that they alarms may be heard down below, but I think this is the best chance for justice
Gwynn (looks to all): We are agreed, then?
Teldathan: I'm agreed.
Damien: Perhaps if we take out the goblins in the towers first, we would be able to stop them from alerting the others.
Campaign saved.
Teldathan: I have no bow, but I can try and climb up on one.
Gwynn: We are four, we could each take an opening shot...
Damien: I do not have any bows on me so I would have to engage them in close range.
Barian (apologetic): I'm afraid that I have no weapon that can reach them from a distance, and my chance of climbing a tower unnoticed is slim
'Steve' disconnected
'Quachie' disconnected
'Quachie' connected
'Quachie' identified as 'Damien'
'Steve' connected
'Steve' identified as 'Teldathan'
Campaign saved.
Barian: I'm am ready to try if that is what is needed though.
Gwynn: We could attempt an approach from the east. We know a tower is there.
Teldathan: That would work. Did we want someone to try and take out that tower to the south at the same time?
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: What about this...
Teldathan: I can try to climb up to the top of one of the towers while the rest of you move to the east - is that viable?
Gwynn: Teldathan and Damien silently moving into the cabin, followed later by Barian and I
Gwynn: That gives us cover from possible arrows in the towers, and hopefully prevents those below surfacing
Gwynn shrugs
Teldathan (nodding): That seems like a good strategy
Damien: Well what are we waiting around for, let's do this.
Barian (nods): Seems wise. I'm ready
Teldathan: If you guys aren't seen, we can just go down. Otherwise, we fight from the cabin.
Teldathan looks to Damien and begins heading down.
Gwynn nods and grits teeth
Damien follows Tel'Dathan
Steve (Teldathan): I'll take 10 on Hide and Move Silently (gives me a 15) if that's ok.
You all stick to the trees and head to the north east side of the camp. Damien and Teldathan begin there way into the camp towards the cabin.
Campaign saved.
You two make your way down towards the cabin, making as little noise as possible. You get about halfway to the cabin when a goblin in the east tower glaces your way.
he stares briefly, but returns his gaze to the east. You make it to the cabin.
Gwynn wipes sweat from brow
Teldathan glances up towards where Barian and Gwynn are located and heads through the crack into the Cabin.
Barian (whispers): Ready when you are...
Teldathan positions himself close to the door to attack anyone that comes in.
Gwynn claps Barian hard on the back and starts forward
Damien heads into the crack also, and give Gwynn the ok signal.
Barian: follows
Barian: Move Silently [1d20-3 = 12]
Gwynn: Move Silently [1d20-5 = 10]
Mcgarnagle: [1d20 = 13]
Campaign saved.
You make your way halfway to the cabin when you hear the snap of a twig underfoot. The goblin in the tower spins and crouches as he stares in your direction
The goblin Leans out of the tower. You see him bend down and out of sight. A rope ladder flings out from the tower.
Barian moves towards the pen
Gwynn does as well
Campaign saved.
You risk being seen by moving towards the pen, and out of sight. You listen briefly but you hear no indication of him seeing you.
Gwynn crouches low along the pen and makes toward the cabin quickly and quietly
Barian follows
You get to the cabin. There is no sign of detection. A hole in the wall is in front of you.
Gwynn estimates whether he will be able to squeeze through the hole
Barian looks to see if his armoured self will fit through the hole
It seems large enough for you to squeeze through
Barian motions for Gwynn to go
Gwynn motions for Barian to enter first
Barian nods and enters
Damien motions to Tel'Dathan to begin opening the hatch.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn takes one final worried look and enters
Teldathan looks somewhat shocked when he sees the two enter, then moves and opens the hatch.
Gwynn smiles and looks to Barian
You pull your legs through just before you see the goblin walking around the pen and looking at the cabin
Barian smiles and feigns wiping sweat from his brow
The hatch opens with a slight creak. wood stairs lead into a cellar.
Teldathan motions for everyone to head down
Gwynn makes to go down first
Damien follows Gwynn down
Barian follows Damien
Teldathan heads down after Barian and closes the hatch after himself.
You head down the stairs. across from the foot of the stairs is a wood door.
Damien (whispers to Gwynn): Past that door and on the opposite wall is where the crack is. In the other room is where I saw the goblins.
Gwynn: nods
Campaign saved.
Damien (whispers): And there is a port cullis on the right, but I didn't see any levers to raise em.
Gwynn: We will have to break down the door then
Gwynn (remembers to whisper): I might be able to convince them to open it. MIGHT
Damien (whispers): And how may I ask, do you plan on doing that?
Teldathan (nodding): it's either that or we try to lift it.
Gwynn: I speak their tounge... (shakes head) I think lifting it is our best bet
Damien (whispers): We'd have to do it quietly enough as to not attract attention. That will be the difficult part.
Teldathan nods
Gwynn looks to see if the door could be broken off and used as a shield to block the slit
Campaign saved.
Teldathan listens to see if there is any sign of activity behind the door.
The door could be broken off.
Teldathan: Listen [1d20+8 = 12]
Teldathan: Listen [12]
You hear the same shouting as before. it doesn't seem to be as loud as before
Teldathan motions for Gwynn to open the door.
Gwynn opens the door a crack and looks in the room
You open it just a crack and see a short hall. A port culis is 8 feet away. You hear alot of shouting and cheering. it is in Goblin.
Gwynn flexes his arms and gets ready for some heavy lifting
Teldathan (whispers): I'll help
Gwynn motions for Barian to follow to lift the portcullis
Barian nods and gets ready
You enter what appears to be another short hall. This hall is 10 feet wide but only 15 feet long. At the end of the hall is a port cullis blocking your path. Beyond the port cullis, you see a room. A great deal of cheering and shouting is coming from this room. The wall opposite to the door is made of stone. A small archer window is in the wall directly across from the door you just entered.
Campaign saved.
Teldathan closes the door once everyone is through.
Gwynn: bends down and makes a frightening face while trying to lift the portcullis

Teldathan: Str bonus +4, Aid Another +2 [18]
Teldathan tries to get under the port cullis and pull it up.
You both strain as you pull the bars up. As you pull them free from the holes in the ground, loud screaching assaults the ears. The cheering stops suddenly as you pull it up to your shoulders.
Gwynn grins at the others and draws his sword
Campaign saved.
Damien moves quickly under the port cullis and draws his rapier

Teldathan: Greatsword [1d20+5 = 13]
Teldathan: Greatsword [13]

Teldathan looks around to make sure there is nobody else hiding, then wipes his greatsword clean on a goblin and resheathes it.
Gwynn bends over and breaths heavily
Barian: How are you feeling Gwynn?
Barian moves to Gwynn
Teldathan (looking concerned): are you alright Gwynn?
Gwynn (drops his sword): ... dizzy
Barian casts Cure Light Wounds on Gwynn
Barian: Cure Light [1d8+1 = 7]
Damien: He looks well enough now.
Gwynn stands up straighter, looking instantly much brighter
Teldathan nods to Barian.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn picks up his sword and nods solemly at Barian
Gwynn: My thanks
Barian claps Gwynn on the shoulder
Looking around the room, you see a large table in the cornor. A box sits open in the middle. Smaller jars are around this box. In the alcove, near the arrow slit, he see a table. 5 loaded crossbows sit upon it and lean against the wall. Two levers, one on each side of the slit, are also here.
Teldathan searches the room quickly, looking for any sort of secret doors.
You do a quick search and find no secret doors. only the door you came through and the one on the east side of the room are present.
Gwynn: Surely, anyone beyond that door knows we are here
Teldathan moves up to listen at the door.
Teldathan: Listen [1d20+8 = 14]
Teldathan: Listen [14]
Scilence lingers on the other side of the door.
Teldathan: Noone that I can hear. Perhaps they are farther down the corridor.
Gwynn inspects the box, assuming it will be alcohol
Looking into the box, you see a scorpion crawling about. Another on lies dead off to the side. The other jars on the table contain various other deadly insects.
Gwynn (whispers): Barbaric
Teldathan frowns.
Gwynn: We should move quickly, in case there is another exit
Campaign saved.
Teldathan nods towards Gwynn.
Damien (whispers): I've seen worse, but yes, we must move on.
Barian: Yes, let us go
Gwynn attempts to open the door
The door is unlocked. fire light can be seen through the crack
Gwynn draws his sword, braces himself and swings wide the door
This hallway goes to the south for a short distance, about 20 feet and also goes east for 30 feet. Both hallways end in wood doors. The hall, much like the other rooms, is also cut right out of the earth. A small pool of water sits in the middle of the hallway about 10 feet straight to the east. Water drips from a root that runs across the ceiling. In the corner at the intersection, a little alcove is carved into the earthy wall and a fire flickers away, giving the hall a redish orange ting.
Gwynn steps through, looking both ways
Barian: Which way Gwynn?
Gwynn shrugs and listens
Gwynn: Listen [1d20 = 5]
Teldathan checks to see if he sees tracks leading off in either direction.
you hear nothing but the drip of water and the flicker of the fire.
Barian Listens as well
Teldathan: Survival [1d20+6 = 15]
Barian: Listen [1d20+3 = 22]
Teldathan: Survival [15]
Barian: Listen [22]
The floor packed down solid. Many people have passed in both directions.
Teldathan shrugs and looks down both paths.
Barian hears nothing but water and fire as well... it is eerie.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn moves east with determination
Barian follows
Teldathan draws his sword and follows behind.
Damien follows, and listens at the door to see if he can hear anything on the other side.
The door is simialr to the others, made of solid wood.
Barian: Shall we?
Barian Looks to Gwynn to open the door
Gwynn tries to open the door
Mcgarnagle: Gwynn and Teldathan see in the otherwise pitch black room...
This large room has three rows of beds. There are between 15 and 20 beds. All are neatly made, and unoccupied. In the northwest corner is a cabinet. Made of wood. There is no defining features on the cabinet. The south wall has a small archway leading off somewhere. Seperating it from beyond is a tattered grey curtain.
Barian: Do we want a light?
Gwynn: Sure. I think we should check the other door
Campaign saved.
Damien: Please, I cannot see anything.
Teldathan nods.
Barian Casts Light on his Sword
Gwynn: points back the other way, and steps past Tel'Dathan
Gwynn points back the other way, and steps past Tel'Dathan
Teldathan follows down the hall
Barian turns and follows
Gwynn tries to open the southern door, once his companions are in place
Another T intersection. The south door is locked. The west and north doors are not.Right in front of the door to the south, hangs a wooden chandelier.
Gwynn advances down the hallway, sword still in hand
Damien follows
Teldathan (pointing at the corridor): think it connects with the other side?
Gwynn nods at Tel'Dathan
Barian follows, light sword held high
Gwynn gets ready outside the west door
Gwynn swings the door open with a flourish
Gwynn swings the door open with an angry flourish
This room is dank and cold.. Scattered about the area are numerous barrels, crates and chests. Many of the have Gorath's merchant symbol banded into the wood. The western part of the room is separated by bars. It looks like some sort of holding cell. Inside, lying on the floor, is a man. His clothes are torn and tattered. Blood soaks through the fabric on his back. He doesn't seem to move.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn nods grimly.
Gwynn: All the evidence we need
Teldathan nods to Gwynn.
Gwynn (grimly): Justice before mercy, however
Gwynn shuts the door and heads south
Barian says a prayer to Kelemvor for the man
Damien (asks curiously): Was that man dead?
Teldathan pauses briefly, then follows Gwynn
Gwynn (flatly): I do not know.
Gwynn tries to open the door
Barian: If it is his time then he will pass.
Barian: If not he will live till we return
the door is locked.
Gwynn (Should): we break it down?
Gwynn: Should we break it down?
Damien: Perhaps I can be of assistance here. Move aside.
Gwynn: steps back
Gwynn steps back
Teldathan moves away from the door.
Damien moves up to the door and starts picking the lock
Damien: Open Lock [1d20+7 = 11]
Damien: Open Lock [11]
Campaign saved.
You wiggle the pick around in the door but it does not budge. The chandalier above you shakes and quivers as a rope wiggles down towards you like a snake. The rope slung at Barian's side begins to wiggle about as well.
Teldathan: Ref. save [1d20+5 = 20]
Barian: Ref. save [1d20+1 = 21]
Barian: Ref. save [21]
Teldathan: Ref. save [20]
Damien: Ref. save [1d20+5 = 16]
Gwynn: Ref. save [1d20+1 = 14]
Damien: Ref. save [16]
Gwynn: Ref. save [14]
The rope moves in a manner towards you all as if it were to entangle you. Barian unfastens the rope on his side and backs away while the rest of you cleverly move away before it can tie itself around you.
Teldathan (frowning): we're going to need to be more careful.
Gwynn stares at the rope, utterly confused
Campaign saved.
Damien (stares in awe): A magical trap?
Gwynn takes a careful swing at the rope
Damien inspects the door for more traps.
Barian: Perhaps the man in the cell, if alive, would have some information about what it is we face?
You hit the rope and it bounces slightly but does not seem to move.
Gwynn motions for Tel"Dathan to prepare to break down the door
Teldathan nods to Gwynn.
Gwynn (whispered): Three... two... one...
Damien: Wait, give me another try.
Teldathan tries to hold up.
Teldathan: Ref. save [1d20+5 = 16]
Gwynn: Gwynn tries to stop
Teldathan: Ref. save [16]
Gwynn: Ref. save [1d20+1 = 12]
Gwynn: Ref. save [12]
Both of you bounce lightly against the door as you hear Damien call out.
Teldathan backs away from the door and lets Damien through.
Gwynn looks back, barring his fangs and breathing heavily. He steps aside, but points forcefully towards the door
sphen (Gwynn): *baring his tusks
Damien (whispers): Better for us to go through unnoticed than to bring the whole compound down around us.
Barian: Remain calm Gwynn... we will find who is responsible
Barian puts his hand on Gwynn's forearm and looks him in the eye
Damien tries to unlock the door once more, but first checking for traps.
Gwynn makes eye contact with Barian and tries to calm himself
Damien: Search [1d20+2 = 16]
Damien: Search [16]
Campaign saved.
You don't find any indications of a trap, but your previous attempt would say otherwise.
Damien (whispers): Well I can't seem to find what caused the rope to come at us, perhaps we already sprung it. I'll try the door now.
Damien: Open Lock [1d20+7 = 17]
Damien: Open Lock [17]
Teldathan nods
Gwynn (through teeth): Now.
You don't manage to hear that satasfying click. The ropes lying n the floor begin to stir again.
Gwynn: Ref. save [1d20+1 = 17]
Teldathan: Ref. save [1d20+5 = 21]

Damien: Ref. save [1d20+5 = 14]
Damien: Ref. save [14]
Gwynn: Ref. save [17]
Teldathan glares at the rope, shocked.
Damien (whispers): Take the rope and place it in the other room, then we can do this again without worries.
You all get away from the rope, twisting and weaving, except for poor Barian. The rope begins to wind around him like a cocoon. Suddenly, a loud peirciing wail breaks out
Barian attempts to cut the rope
Gwynn looks around, very surprised
Quachie (Damien): ignore what i just said
Barian: Bastard Sword [1d20-2 = 7]
Campaign saved.
Barian tries to cut the rops as it entangles him but the rope moves too quickly. You are now fastened tightly. The sound continues to blare out.
Teldathan tries to grab the rope and pull it off of him.
Gwynn assists
Gwynn: Str bonus [1d20+3 = 14]
Teldathan: Str bonus +4, Aid Another +2 [1d20+6 = 12]
Teldathan: Str bonus +4, Aid Another +2 [12]
You manage to get you hand inbetween the rope and begin to tug. The rope holds fast.
Barian: Str bonus [1d20 = 19]
Barian: Str bonus [19]
Barian attempts to break free of the rope
Barian flexes his arms and loosens the ropes. They fall down around his ankles. The sound cries out for a moment longer and then disapperars leaving a ringing in your ears.
Teldathan moves carefully towards the door and tries to hear if there is anyone coming from the other side.
Barian (panting): Thank you... Perhaps now is a good time to break down the door
Barian: We must have been heard
Damien: Well if they didn't know we were here before, they definately know we are here now.
Teldathan: Listen [1d20+8 = 23]
Teldathan: Listen [23]
The ringing is still loud in your ears, but you manage to block much of it out. Nothing can be heard from the other side.
Damien: Spot [1d20+4 = 15]
Damien: Spot [15]
Gwynn: Spot [1d20 = 15]

Barian: Spot [20]
Gwynn: Spot [15]
sphen (Gwynn): If we wait to drop our result until everyone has rolled, it might be easier for JP to read :)
You all look back down the hall. Way at the other end, you make out a goblin wearing an apron, a meat cleaver in his hand. He spots you and begins to run through the door, heading to the surface.
Gwynn growls and breaks into a run
Teldathan follows closely behind.
Barian turns and runs after the goblin
Teldathan: Initiative [1d20+3 = 8]

Gwynn: Hammer, light [1d20-4 = 2]
The hammer soars past and smashes into the wall. it clatters to the ground.
Damien
Damien rushes forward, trying to cut off the goblin cook from alerting his allies.

Teldathan curses his lack of a bow as he runs forward, trying to squeeze past Barian

The goblin gives a scream and tries to charge through the door, allowing the three men to attack him.
Barian: Bastard Sword [1d20+3 = 12]
Barian: Bastard Sword [12]
Barian misses the goblin as he flees.
Damien: Rapier [1d20 = 11]
Damien: Rapier [11]
Getting lucky, the goblin avoids the thrust of the rapier.
Teldathan: Greatsword [1d20+5 = 10]
Teldathan: Greatsword [10]
The goblin has the luck of the gods as he manages to escape the flury of attacks.
He runs into the room, heads to the port culis. He gives a small shriek as he sees it closed and heads to the alcove with the lever. He pulls the left lever up.
Barian
Campaign saved.
Barian charges the Goblin
Barian: Bastard Sword +3, Charge Attack +2 [1d20+5 = 16]
Barian: Bastard Sword [1d10+3 = 10]
Barian: Bastard Sword [10]
You plunge the sword deep into the cook's gullet. Dark blood gurgles up and out his mouth. He slumps to the ground.

Barian Sighs in relief and heads back to his companions
Teldathan quickly looks around for more of the goblins before walking back towards Gwynn.
Gwynn upon seeing Barian return, Gwynn prepares to assault the door
There is no sign of any other goblins.
Teldathan nods to Gwynn and readies himself for the count.
Gwynn: Three... two... one...
Gwynn: Str bonus [1d20+3 = 10]
Teldathan: Str bonus +4, Aid Another +2 [1d20+6 = 8]
You both crash into the door. It does not even quake under your combined effort. Your shoulders throb in pain.
Teldathan steps back and prepares for another run, rubbing his shoulder.
Gwynn lets loose with a low, guttural howl
Gwynn grunts three times and slams his shoulder into the door again in time with Tel'Dathan
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: Str bonus [1d20+3 = 15]
Teldathan: Str bonus +4, Aid Another +2 [1d20+6 = 19]
Teldathan: Str bonus +4, Aid Another +2 [19]
The door shakes and you hear the crack of splintering wood, but it remains in place.
Barian: Once more
Teldathan nods
Gwynn: nods to Tel"Dathan
Gwynn nods to Tel"Dathan
Gwynn: Str bonus [1d20+3 = 12]
Teldathan: Str bonus +4, Aid Another +2 [1d20+6 = 26]
Teldathan: Str bonus +4, Aid Another +2 [26]
The door smashes off it's hinges and cracks down the middle as if is flung tothe side.
This octagonal shaped room has rich vibrant colors. Colored glass bottles and trinkets and jewelry cover the table and dresser. The bed has velvet purple sheets and a richly colored rug sits at the base of the bed in front of the door. A chest with iron bands sits on the south west corner.
Gwynn steps through, drawing his sword
Barian: Barian follows, sword at the ready.
Gwynn: MAKE YOURSELF KNOWN!
Barian Barian follows, sword at the ready.
Damien follows in and takes a look around.
Teldathan follows into the room, looking around for signs of life.
There is no answer to Gwynn's call.
Barian will watch the door while the others are looking through the room
Teldathan: Check that chest for traps before we open it. I don't like what was on that door.
Damien: I agree
Gwynn jumps onto the bed and plunges his sword through the once nice velvet
Damien moves towards the chest and checks it for traps.
Feathers burst out into the air and float to the ground.
Barian looks over his shoulder at Gwynn
Campaign saved.
Gwynn continues his "search" of the bed
Barian (concerned): Gwynn, come here for a second
You are certain that there is no traps. You see two locks on this chest.
Teldathan begins taking the trinkets and jewelry and putting them into his backpack.
Gwynn looks back to Barian
Gwynn (stepping of the bed, breathing deep): What is it?
Damien satisfied that there are no traps on the chest, he begins to unlock them.
Barian (quietly): What is troubling you so about this place?
Damien: Open Lock [1d20+7 = 21]
Damien: Open Lock [21]
The first lock opens easily.
Damien: Seems simple enough, now the other.
Damien: Open Lock [1d20+7 = 23]
Damien: Open Lock [23]
This lock pops open as easily as the first.
Damien opens the chest
Gwynn is distracted by Damien, and obviously impressed with the skinny man
Inside the chest, you see a finely crafted long sword. A large stack of gold is off to the side, and a scroll case is beside that.
Barian: Well done Damien
Teldathan: Indeed
Gwynn: Aye.
Damien: Something for our troubles at least.
Teldathan: We should take this and continue on. Perhaps Roth is still here somewhere.
Gwynn: I wonder why they did not flee with it?
Barian: Yes, we should not tarry here longer than necessary
Barian: Perhaps they haven't fled, they do not fear us?
Teldathan (thinking): Perhaps they have not fled.
Gwynn (looking around): No other exits in this room
-> tel: As you walk near the south east corner, you detect a strangness against the wall. A secret door is obviously there to your eyes.
Gwynn: ?
Damien: Perhaps that body in the other room could give us a better idea what we are up against.
Teldathan points to the wall.
Teldathan: Something is here.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn raises and eyebrow and grips his sword tight
Barian loooks to Tel
Teldathan searches for a lever or a handle.
Barian: What is it?
Teldathan (muttering): A door of some sort.
You find a handle concealed in the stone.
Teldathan waits for people to gather, then opens the door.
Gwynn: Cowards!
Barian moves beside Tel.
Gwynn flanks Tel'Dathan's other side at the door
Barian: Let us see where it leads...
You pull open the door. a narrow corridor, streaches into darkness. It is only 5 feet wide, but goes off as far as you can see.
Barian: Here is the other escape route we were worried about
Gwynn (bashes fist against wall): Too late.
Barian: Perhaps the man in the cell. If alive he may be able to identify his attacker
Gwynn nods at Barian
Teldathan (looking concerned): Maybe not. There's the man in the cell and the rest of the compound to search.
Barian moves to head to the cell
Gwynn: Who wants to follow?
Damien: The man in the cell could have usefull information for us.
Teldathan (still concerned): I'll go wherever you say, but I suggest we talk to this man.
Gwynn: Very well.
Gwynn lets a long breath and closing his eyes, while also motioning north
Campaign saved.
Barian puts his hand on Gwynn's shoulder as they start Norht
Bryce (Barian): North
Gwynn sheathes his sword and moves up
Teldathan follows in back, watching the secret door as he leaves.
The cell allowing access to the man is locked.
Barian: Damien?
Damien walks up to the cell and starts picking the lock.
Damien: Open Lock [1d20+7 = 27]
Damien: Open Lock [27]
With expert skill, you open the cell door.
Barian heads into the cell... kneels beside the man
Barian checks for signs of life
Teldathan (looking to Gwynn) I don't want to raise the frustration any, but is it even possible for Roth to have masterminded this entire thing?
Steve (Teldathan): should be spoken.
Barian: Heal [1d20+7 = 27]
Barian: Heal [27]
Gwynn (shakes head): I really don't know if he's capable of this. I know he had at least a few collaborators
Teldathan nods.
Gwynn speaks as he looks throught the crates as the others tend to the man
Barian notices that the man is in a coma. He is slowly dying and will perish within a few hours without healing.
Barian: I have only one healing spell left. Hopefully this does the trick
Inside the crates, you find all manners of weapons and armour. These are mostly found in the cases marked as Gorath's. Other crates contain supplies such as food.
Barian casts Cure Light Wounds on the man
Campaign saved.
Bryce (Barian): so scratch that. I'll cast a Cure Minor instead to stabilize him
Teldathan (looking into a weapon crate): What do we do about these? By the time we get back to the city and get the militia out here, the goblins could have moved these.
The man seems to be stabilized but remains in the coma.
Gwynn: nods to Tel'Dathan
Gwynn nods to Tel'Dathan
Barian tries to discern whether magical healing will help this man
Gwynn: Perhaps just one of us could return? I don't know if that would be safe, however
Barian: Heal [1d20+7 = 27]
Barian: [1d20 = 9]
Barian: Heal [27]
You can tell that the man won't recover from the coma with magical healing. Only time and proper care will help him recover.
Barian: We need to get him back to town
Damien: Do you recognize the man Gwynn?
Barian: He may be our only hope of discovering who is behind this
Gwynn looks over the body... er, person
-> gwy: nope
Gwynn shakes his head solemly
Barian (looks to Gwynn): There is nothing I can do for him here. He is stable, but will not recover without time and care
Gwynn: There are still likely the goblins up above to deal with...
Campaign saved.
Damien: Perhaps that secret exit we saw, we can use that to escape
Teldathan nods to Damien.
Barian: Good thought Damien.
Gwynn: We need also return these goods, though
Damien: There is no way for us to take all this with us.
Gwynn: This place seems fairly defensible, given the portcullis
Teldathan: Should we figure out what is in the rest of this compound? We still don't know for sure that the man has fled.
Damien: True.
Gwynn: Perhaps Barian and Damien could return with news to the town, while Tel'Dathan and I guard this evidence?
Gwynn: Aye, let us quickly scout the rest of this place
Barian: It will be two days at the earliest till we return.
Teldathan (nodding to Gwynn): and perhaps collect Baldrik on the way as well.
Gwynn: I don't believe the goblins will mount a counter attack
Teldathan: No - only the hobgoblin would be a concern, and I don't know that he would do it by himself.
Damien: Gwynn, your word would carry more weight than ours, and if the cloaked figure was indeed Roth and if he returned, you can help explain that.
Campaign saved.
Barian: True. I can hold here with Tel. This man is beyond my help at this point anyway
Gwynn: That much is true, though I expect Feng Shu would trust your work, as you are in his employ as well.
Damien: And perhaps Gwynn can help carry this man back with us. Get him to proper care and security.
Barian: Alright, I will take this man and go. I will find Feng Shu and tell him what we found
Gwynn (narrowing eyes): Why are you so keen to stay here with the gear, Damien?
Teldathan: No need to worry Gwynn, I would be here as well. Let's search the rest of the camp and we can decide then who goes and who stays.
Damien (stares back at Gwynn): Are you saying you don't trust me? My concern now is the safety of this man here, and your word does carry further than mine. But if you are determined for me to go, then so be it.
Gwynn (purses lips): I will stay. That is final.
Teldathan nods to Gwynn.
Campaign saved.
Gwynn: But Tel'Dathan is correct, there are other areas left to be sure of
The unexplored parts of the compound are empty. There is only a dinning room and a kitchen, both wih nothing of interest.
Damien: Come Barian, we have a long ways to go, and we should make haste.
Barian: Yes
Teldathan (nodding): Be safe.
Barian Barian constructs a quick Travois for the man and loads him up
Gwynn: And careful
Teldathan walks the compound quickly, making sure the port cullis is down in case it's needed.
Gwynn prepares to deliver unfair crossbow death to the possibly unaware goblinoids who might be returning
Barian follows Damien down the secret pass back towards town. Along the way they will find Baldrik and inform him of what transpired
Campaign saved.
You make your way through the secret passage to the fresh air of Langtoor Forst. The sun is begining to rise. You find baldrik near by and head towards the town of Cambe.
sphen (Gwynn): lol was that for the crossbows?
