The rain gently splatters against your armor and clothes. Soon everything is soaked through. You get a mile out of Gateway before deciding to break for lunch. The meal is more of the same... Trail Rations and a few odd looking things that Vexin claims is food. The plains don't offer much in way of shelter, and there doesn't seem to be any sign of the rain letting up.
Brigg eats his 'food' miserably.
Vexin munches a bat wing crunchie
Taurus cringes softly, just softly, as he bites into the crunchy bat wing or so says their kender friend. Feigning a smile he nods slowly to his short friend.
Taurus: Mmm... good...
ZtB chants softly and moves his hand over the ration.
Vexin: Rain, Rain, go away, make the dragonmen drown today
ZtB takes a bite. "Much better"
Taurus eyes Zhage and his food then his batwing before looking off into the distance.
Taurus: If we push it, we can reach Que-teh by evening.
Vexin feed skitter a batwing crunchie
Vexin: Push then
Vexin hops on Skitters
ZtB: Let's get going then
Vexin: Phew... Skitters you smell like wet weasel
Taurus smiles and pockets the remainder of his bat crunchie, pulling his cloak around him he stands.
Hawkeye: lets push forward then. Keep an eye out for the plainsmen... I'm not sure what their response to us might be.
Riverwind nods grimly
Vexin: Just go up and shake their hands, then ou're friends!
Taurus: Indeed. Perhaps it might be wise that Goldmoon and Riverwind do their best to conceal their identities.
Goldmoon: yes... Que-Teh is a different tribe to our own, but their tribe and ours were not on the most friendly of terms either.
ZtB: Then we should be careful when we speak.
Vexin: Did I tell you about this one time, I met a pink Hippogriff on the plains of Abanasinia?
ZtB: Pink Hippogriff?
Vexin: Well, it looked pink in the sunset at least
You head out onto the muddy road towards the plainsmen village of Que-Teh. After an hours travel in the wet cold rain, you see off in the distace a small settlement.
Mcgarnagle: spot checks please.
Taurus trudges along at an even pace, taking the occasional slug from his waterskin.
Vexin: hey there's a dust particle!
Taurus: A dust particle? You speak of some plains beast Kender?
Vexin: hmm... do they normally live in bunt buildings?
Vexin: burnt
ZtB: Burnt?
Vexin: And I don't see anyone in the town
Vexin: Nobody moving anyways
Riverwind: I see faint smoke too. It looked like cooking fires but maybe not...
Riverwind frows
Vexin: Well, they could be there, moving, or not, but i don't see them
ZtB: You must have good eyes, I can barely make out the village
Vexin: All Kender do! Didn't you know that?
Vexin: Which is odd, being so short and all
Vexin: Let's go help them, if they don't normally live in burnt buildings then something bad happened
Vexin: don't know why anyone would choose to live in burned buildings though
Taurus: I agree. We should investigate, they may be in need of assistance.
Hawkeye (Cautions): Don't draw your weapons, but keep them within reach.
Vexin glances at his hoopak
Hawkeye: if the plainsmen are there, they might not like it if we come waltzing in with ouw weapons in hand.
Vexin: Does this mean I have to have a sheath for a hoopak? It's deadly...
ZtB (with a slight smile): I always have a hand on my weapon
Brigg stifles a chuckle
Vexin: Maybe if I pretnd it's a walking staff... or a crutch!
Vexin begins to limp
Riverwind advances towards the village with determination, not waiting to see if anyone follows.
Taurus shakes his head with a smile, double pacing to keep up with the plainsman.
Vexin limps faster, directly next to Riverwind
the structures of this town dont seem completely permanent. The village consists of about one hundred family huts and primitive cottages, plus a small handful of permanent common buildings. The family dwellings are made from wood, bark, and tanned hides, augmented with mud and adobe; the common buildings are made from logs, adobe, and even some stone with thatched roofs.
You find it abandoned. Many buildings are burned, and evidence of a brief and violent struggle is obvious; several human skeletons have been picked clean by scavengers, with broken swords and bows discarded nearby.
ZtB: What on earth happened here
Vexin looks for survivors
Taurus frowns somewhat as he looks around the abandoned village.
Goldmoon looks with shock at the death and destruction.
Riverwind consoles the plainswoman
Vexin: Hullo! Anyone alive?
Taurus: I have suspicions those creatures we encountered on the road caused this.
Mcgarnagle: if you have the track feat, make a search check please..
Taurus: But... a whole village...
Taurus: It must have been a larger force.
Vexin: I dn't suppose any of you can seak with the dead? that would be SO exciting!
Taurus: Only in prayer Vexin.
Vexin: Pray to my Uncle Trapspringer!
Vexin: He borrowed a wand of mine...
Taurus eyes the Kender quizzically.
Taurus: Survivors first, Vexin.
Vexin: oh, right.
Taurus smiles
Everyone sees a multitude of tracks but none can be distingushed as anything more than just tracks.
Vexin resumes shouting out to any survivors
Taurus joins Vexin in his shouts.
The kender's shrill voice eeirliy carries across the deathly quiet village.
Taurus (Shout): Anyone out there? We bring aid!
Riverwind (solemnly): they are all gone...
Vexin: hmm, if Que-Teh looks liek this, we should hurry to Goldmoon's village Que-Shu!
ZtB: That may be a good plan Vexin
Goldmoon clearly not thinking of what the kender has spoken, she quickly grabs her pack and heads in the direction of her village.
Vexin climbs a nearby building for one last look
ZtB follows Goldmoon.
Vexin jumps down onto Skitters and shouts "ONWRS SKITTERS!"
Taurus kneels by a skeleton briefly, inspecting the remains for what caused such distruction. In his experience it takes months for the flesh to rott from the bone.
Taurus (muttered): This is wrong... very wrong...
Taurus bows his head and mouths a silent before, shakes his head and stands, quickly moving after the group.
ZtB: Come on Taurus, we should move on
Riverwind and Goldmoon trek in a north-east direction with new found energy. It is hard to keep up at first but soon the plainsmen slow down to a managable pace.
Taurus appears to be the slower of the group, his fullplate making his pace a difficult one dispite his best efforts.
ZtB (muttered to himself): Wish I had a horse..
Vexin rides point, looking for anything exciting to break the monotony of travel. Constantly riding back to report nothing new.
After three hours of marching through the tall grass of the plains, the rain has slowed to a few random sputters. Another hour and you come across another strange sight upon the plains.
You come across an odd swath in the waving grass of the Plains. As you draw nearer, you see a broad path has been trampled, as though hundreds of beings had recently marched across the Plains in a northsouth direction.
ZtB squats down. "This is rather odd.."
Taurus: Hawkeye, can you determine which way these tracks head?
Vexin: Look what I found! (obviously after everyone else had seen it) Tracks!
Hawkeye and Riverwind both begin to examin the path.
Taurus pauses for a brief moment to take a slug from his waterskin, panting and wiping a bead of sweat from his brow. He steps forward past the group just a bit to stand guard, eyes scouring the surrounding lands for any sign of movement.
Vexin: They obviously went that way!.... or that way. or...
after a few minutes, Hawkeye stands and points South.
Hawkeye: they went that way.
Vexin: They went for a swim in the ocean
Riverwind: there were many wagons as well. And also dragonman tracks... mixed with human
ZtB: Mixed with Human?
Vexin: Now if i had a spell to turn the ocean into ice... poof, no more army
Taurus (quietly): A war party...
Brigg nods at Taurus' statement
Vexin: Or maybe a dragon turtle will get them! I met this dragon turtle once...
Taurus: We should tarry no longer.
Taurus: I fear we may find in Que-shu the same as Que-teh...
Taurus says grimly.
ZtB: Vexin... (trails off) Nevermind.
ZtB: We should get moving then
Goldmoon Chin quivers a bit before she sets off in a slight run towards her village.
Vexin prattles on about Dragon Turtle mating habits as he rides Skitters forward
Taurus drowns out the voice of Vexin quick enough with the thumping of his heart in his chest as he half runs after Goldmoon; fullplate clanking loudly with each step.
ZtB attempts to keep up.
Another hour and a half pass as the sun continues to plummet into the west.
You approach within three miles of the village, and see a great deal of black smoke rising from its direction. You also see large swaths of trampled grass, signs that youve seen beforea great host passed this way.
Goldmoon cries out as tears well in her eyes
ZtB (bleak): That doesn't bode well...
Vexin offers a brightly colored feather to Goldmoon, and rodes forward to scout
ZtB comes up next to the plainswomen and attempts to comfort her.
ZtB: Perhaps there are survivors..
Goldmoon accepts the mages comforting words, tears streaming down her face. Something your sure that not many have seen from the princess of the Que-Shu
As you approach the village, you notice a handful of crows circling the town.
Taurus looks to Zhage, nods solemly before looking around the village as they approach.
Once you reach within a hundred yards of the villages outskirts, you feel chill winds dispersing the smoke from dying fires in the midst of the village. Buzzards and carrion crows wheel over the motionless settlement, descending slowly among the huts. Everything is still and eerily quiet but for the occasional Caw! of a crow.
Taurus frowns, resting his hand on the pommel of his sword.
Taurus (whisper): Be on your guard...
Riverwind 's face turns to stone as he approaches
Vexin brandishes his deadly Hoopak in a cimically menacing manner
They are gone. The tents, huts, and common buildings of the Qu-Shu are abandoned, and many are burning. A strange creaking sound comes from the center of town. Birds perch atop a wooden gallows hastily cobbled together in the center of the village. Two stout posts have been driven into the ground, their bases nearly splintered by the impact. Ten feet above the ground, a crosspiece is lashed to the posts. All the posts are charred and flash-burned. Three iron chains, each now cold but clearly once partially softened by heat, creak in the wind. Suspended from each chain, apparently by the feet, is a corpse. Though blackened and seared, the bodies are clearly not human. Atop the structure, a shield has been nailed into the crossbeam with a broken sword blade. A message is roughly carved onto the shield as if by a huge but expertly wielded blade. The scavenger birds crow and caw at their good fortune.
ZtB (looking sick): Well.. this is an interesting sight..
Vexin bounds up to read the shield
Mcgarnagle: you'll need to make a Decipher Script check.
Taurus cautiously approaches the sight of the posts, quietly commenting to Goldmoon as he does so.
Taurus (whispered): Likely your people fled to safety in Que-kiri when they sighted an overbearing force, M'Lady. Do not despair.
ZtB takes a look up towards the shield and attempts to read
Vexin: It says... umm...
Vexin: It says dragonmen stink
Vexin: yes, yes that;s it
ZtB for some reasons chuckles..
Vexin: turth from a hacked shield
Taurus sets about cutting the bodies down.
ZtB: Well... you are close in what it says Vexin..
Taurus: Zhage, you can read this script?
ZtB: Yes..
Vexin: pfft, that's exactly what it says!
Mcgarnagle: anyone looking at the sign can make either an Appraise, Craft (blacksmith), or Knowledge (nature) check as well.
Taurus humours Vexin with a nod.
ZtB: Be it known, servants of Highlord Verminaard, the fate of ye who disobeys his commands or show cowardice.
Taurus frowns, searching his memory for any knowledge of this Highlord Verminaard.
Vexin: hmm, must be below where it says 'dragonmen stink'
Vexin: I think a dragon made the sign... those are claw marks
The name does not bring any memory to the kinght.
Taurus: ... a dragon?
Taurus: Surely some other beast...
ZtB (with a slight smile): Oh, and it says Dragonmen stink in very small text.
Vexin: yes, yes a dragon. claw marks
Brigg: haw! you do like your tall tales Vexin. Dragon's don't even exist!
Vexin: ah! see! i told you
Vexin: pfft! I once saw a sign that said 'there be dragons here'
Vexin: so dragons therefore exist
ZtB (recalling): From what I have read, dragons no longer exist..
Vexin: and everyone knows signs are always true...
Riverwind: Do not fear, Chieftan's Daughter. Some of our people escaped with their lives into Eastwall mountains.
Riverwind rises from the tracks on the ground and points to the east at the towering mountains.
Vexin: off we go then
Taurus looks to the mountains, following Riverwind's motion.
Taurus: Perhaps their destination is our own.
Vexin: Of course it is!
Vexin: everyone knows to go to the eastwall mountains...
Taurus: Then tonight we will make camp outside the village and tomorrow when the sun rises over the mountains we shall head into it.
Vexin (already on his way east, turns around): oh... ok
ZtB: That would be a good plan.
Taurus: But first... we should comit these souls to the gods.
Taurus gestures to the charred remains.
Vexin: how do you commit to something that you dont know the names of?
Taurus nods to Goldmoon.
Taurus: She knows.
Vexin: How do we know which gods to commit them to?
Taurus: These are Goldmoon's kin.
Vexin looks up at Goldmoon
You see Goldmoon immediately begins to gather the dead and says a silent prayer for each one. She has been very quiet since entering the village
Vexin (as he tries to help): who do you pray to Goldmoon?
ZtB attempts to help the best he can
Goldmoon ignores the kender as she carries on with the ritual.
Taurus nods slowly to himself, calling Vexin over.
Taurus: Vexin.
Taurus: I need your assistance.
Vexin: Ok
Vexin: You're awfully bigger than me to need my help
Taurus: Could you and Skitters do a quick scout through the village? There may be somthing we've missed.
Taurus: Indeed, but you are indeed faster.
Taurus smiles to the Kender.
Vexin: ooh! ok!
Vexin hops on Skitters and scouts the entire village
Taurus quietly stands beside Zhage, whispering to him.
Taurus (whispered): There may be some merit to the Kender's words. If there indeed was a Dragon here, are there any arcane signs?
ZtB (whispered): It could be possible, but I'll have to look around.
Taurus (whispered): Thank you Zhage.
ZtB takes his leave and begins a search anything that could possibly mean a dragon.
With the kender off exploring, the rest manage to complete the rites with direction from Goldmoon and Riverwind. Zhage explores the ruins in search of some sign of a dragon. The only thing that gives any clue is the burnt buildings and the message carved into the shield. Soon after, the group moves away from the village and breaks for camp.
Taurus dusts ash from his gloves on completion of the rituals. He makes a quiet prayer to his own faith before heading out to camp.
Taurus: When we find those that escaped Que-shu in the mountains we will have a better idea of what they faced, dragon or no.
Hawkeye: Yes... We will see.
Brigg: Should we set up a watch for the night?
ZtB: Hopefully, it is not a dragon..
Vexin arrives at camp, plops down on the ground and begins searching through his pouches to see if there's anything new and interesting
Vexin: What's the most exciting watch Brigg?
Brigg smiles.
Taurus glances breifly towards Hawkeye remembering the tale of his own village and what had befallen it before their paths had once more crossed. Tossing Vexin his half eaten bat crunchie from earlier.
Brigg: which ever one your on, I'm sure.
Taurus: Yes, we'll set watch.
Vexin ponders that, confused
Vexin: hrm
Brigg: I'll take first watch.
Vexin: yum, half a batwing crunchie
Taurus: With Vexin?
Taurus grins at Briggs.
Vexin: I'll take mid watch
Brigg: Sure!
Vexin: oh ok 1st watch!
Brigg doesn't notice the joke.
Vexin: i got picked!
Taurus: Riverwind and I will take mid.
Taurus: Hawkeye and Goldmoon last.
Riverwind nods.
Taurus looks to Zhage.
ZtB looks semi confused
ZtB: And that leaves me?
Taurus: You can take first, with Vexin.
Taurus hides a smile.
Taurus: And Briggs.
Vexin: a watch party!
Vexin: I'll bring the bat wing crunchies!
ZtB (with a slight smile): Sounds ok.. I think I have a few things that can keep Vexin busy
Vexin opens up another pouch
Taurus nods, removing several pieces of plate.
The night passes in relative peace. A few sounds from wild animals can be heard off in the distance. Lightning dances across the sky way off to the west, probably over Solace.
Vexin: Pretty lights... should i wake everyone and show them Briggsy?
Brigg: nah! It might scare them!
Brigg winks at the kender
Vexin: Oh, right
ZtB hides a chuckle
Vexin ponders what being scared is like
the morning air is cool and the grass has a thin coating of frost upon it.
Vexin: Everyone ready to adventure east?
Taurus pokes at the small camp fire that dwindles in the morning, chewing on a trial ration as he looks to the eastern mountains.
Brigg stretches as he wakes, holding his grumbling belly.
Taurus: Riverwind, where across the mountains would your people head?
Vexin rumbles through his pouches, extracts some red flakes and adds them to his bat wing crunchie
Vexin: Ooh! Spicy!
Riverwind: There is a road through the Forsaken Pass. That would be the easiest way through, but if they fled to hide, they might have strayed from the road.
Taurus shys away from the sight of another bat wing crunchie.
Vexin belches red powder
Vexin: Forsaken pass... sounds wonderful!
ZtB wakes from the sound of the belch.
Taurus: Where would be their destination?
ZtB (half asleep): What was that?
Taurus: Xak-Lsaroth?
Vexin: What was what?
Vexin: Bat wing Crunchie Zhage?
Riverwind: I know not. Our people stay out of the mountains for the most part.
Vexin offers a very red batwing crunchie
ZtB (eyes the crunchie): I think I'll pass.
Vexin: more for me!
Taurus: I see. Then today you and Hawkeye will take point, we'll try to track them through the mountains.
Vexin: They can look at tracks, i'll look for dragons!
Riverwind nods and gathers his belongings.
Taurus: Yes. Vexin your on scouting duty.
Taurus: If there is indeed a dragon, I want to know about it!
Taurus nods firmly.
ZtB gathers his belongings and very carefully packs his spell book away.
Vexin: I wonder if dragons come in pink...
ZtB (half joking): If a red dragon and awhite dragon mated...
Vexin: well when dragon turtles mate...
Taurus (whispered): Please Zhage, there are Ladies presant.
Taurus nods to Goldmoon.
The party packs up the camp and heads off towards the mountains. The two rangers plod along the road for an hour and a half before the mountains stand before you.
ZtB nods and keeps quiet.
Vexin: no dragons yet.
Taurus secures the last buckle on his armor before setting off, marching behind the two rangers.
Vexin: maybe there's albino trolls here... or wolly mammoths!
Riverwind: Most if the tracks continued this way. Some branch off into the foothills.
Taurus: Keep your eyes keen Vexin, they're known to be very sneaky.
Taurus: We'll follow the main body.
Vexin peers around intently for the rest of the day, riding forward to ge tthe 1st glimpse
Another hour passes.
The Forsaken Pass rises from a pleasant meadow in the foothills of the Eastwall Mountains. The mountains are rugged but not as high as in the Kharolis range; only a few peaks lie above the tree line. The pass winds through seven miles of heavily wooded terrain; aspen and conifers line the trail through the pass.
Taurus: For curiousity sake, why is this called the Forsake Pass?
Riverwind frowns.
Riverwind: it says that those who follow it to the other side will not return. The lands beyond are forsaken.
Vexin: Spooky... how exciting
ZtB: That sounds.. fun...
Vexin: it does!
Taurus: You came back, Riverwind.
Taurus smiles to the ranger.
Riverwind shakes his head.
Riverwind: If this was where I came from, then I came back a different man... I nearly died...
Taurus: Our companions will be our strength.
Taurus nods and trudges forwards eyeing the peeks.
Riverwind: It was the staff that kept me going... and the memory of...
Riverwind looks longingly towards Goldmoon for a fleeting moment.
The rangers lead you along the path. It has a bit of undergrowth from the forest but the path is easy to travel.
Taurus: Vexin, how goes the Dragon situation?
Vexin: Nothing yet
Vexin: I know they're out there though
You near the end of the pass and see some ruined structures at the eastern exit of the pass.
Taurus: Keep looking! We'll find one.
Vexin: a spotted one maybe...
Taurus lifts his gauntletted hand to shield his eyes, peering at the eastern ruins.
ZtB (under his breath): I hope not..
Vexin: I bet something is lurking there just waiting to rip us limb from limb!
Taurus: Then we should be careful...
Vexin bunds forward, peering hard into the ruins for some sign of wonderful monsters
ZtB: You seem excited about that Vexin..
Vexin: Wouldn't it be fun!
Mcgarnagle: everone, listen checks.
ZtB: I'd perfer to keep my limbs attached
You all hear sounds of grunts and growls coming from a crumbling tower.
Taurus: Do you hear that?
Vexin (whispers): ooh! monsters!
ZtB (quietly): I do hear that
Vexin (whispers): I can't wait to mee tthem!
Taurus approaches the tower slowly, hand on the pommel of his sword and shield on his arm. Gesturing Hawkeye and Briggs to his sides.
Vexin sneaks up to peer into the tower
As you approach the tower, you see a massive owl bear come bounding out of the pine trees straight for the other side of the tower. It slides to a stop on the road and growls into the opening of the tower. The opening responds with it's own growls and grunts.
Taurus blinks.
Taurus (whispered): What a strange creature...
Brigg moves to Goldmoon in case the princess is in danger.
Vexin

Hawkeye moves to the edge of the tower and looks into the crack. He looks back and holds two fingers up and points to the Owlbear.
Vexin loads his hoopak
Taurus
Taurus nods to Hawkeye, drawing his longsword as he approaches the owlbear. Stopping short, he readies to strike the creature if it should attack him. (prepared action)
Taurus: Hail there!
ZtB
Riverwind moves ahead to stand next to Taurus.
Riverwind: These creatures are fearsome in battle. We will have are hands full should they decide to attack.
Taurus nods slightly.
Taurus (quietly): All creatures have the chance to act peacefully.
Another owlbear runs out from the tower and the two owlbears snarl and circle one another.
Vexin
Vexin: Oh look, they're fighting each other. Let's watch!
Hawkeye circles the tower, trying to gain position on the creatures if they attack.
Taurus
Taurus watches with his sword ready should they attack him, but he doesn't make ground.
Taurus: Well met friends!
ZtB
Taurus: You wouldn't by any chance have seen some plainsmen pass this way?
Vexin: Pfft, Owlbears don't talk, silly
Taurus glances to Vexin.
Taurus (Quietly): they dont?
ZtB holds his crossbow at the ready.
Vexin: Nope. Just better than animals
Riverwind stands ready with his sword.
The owlbear circles and at this point, notices the party. It gives out a horrid squak and charges towards the knight.
Vexin: Oops...
Mcgarnagle: go ahead with your prepared attack if you like.
Taurus whips the sword around at the owlbear to meet its charge.
Vexin: Guess that one was angrier than hungry
The sword catches the charging beast in the face, cutting it's brow. It seems to have angered him even more.
The clawed paw slashes towards the knight in retaliation.
The claw scrapes across the shield, but the knight feels the force behind the beast
The second Owlbear lumbers towards Riverwind with the same intent has his fellow owlbear.
Taurus braces himself as the claw lets out a metallic ring from his shield, his foot sliding back an inch in the dirt.
Taurus: Indeed *grunt* aggressive beasts...
Riverwind, anticipating this, attacks the beast.
The sword slashes the beasts arm.
The owlbear slashes into Riverwinds shoulder violently.
The owlbear latches onto Riverwind with it's powerful arms and begins to crush the life out of him.
Brigg, seeing what is happening, tells the plains woman to stay put and runs to Riverwinds aid.
Vexin
Vexin moves to block the sight of the 3rd owlbear from the fight, assumes a non-threatening manner, but sets his hoopak against a charge just in case.
The owlbear growls a warning to the kender. It appears that he is still not pleased with the parties prsence.
Hawkeye climbs the small wall and take extra percautions to avoid the owl bear in the tower.

ZtB
ZtB begins to chant, move his hands and then touches Taurus.
Taurus hoists his shield high to block the incomming blows from the owlbear opposite him, blinking slightly as he casts a glance over his shoulder at Zhage feeling strength flow through him. Grinning at the Wizard.
Taurus
Taurus whirls sharply but not at the one attacking him but instead the owlbear assaulting Riverwind. #2
The blade just hits.
Riverwind tries to break free from the creatures grasp.
The ranger can barely be seen struggling as the owlbears grasp is too strong.
The owlbear infront of Taurus swings at the knight.
The claw slashes into the knights torso.
Taurus grits his teeth as he takes a blow unable to deflect it in time.
The other owlbear continues to squeeze the life out of the ranger.
Brigg swings the Scythe around at the owlbear.
The scythe just barely hits.
Vexin
Vexin moves slowly around towards the 3rd owlbear, still trying to make an impression and block it's view of the fight. Again nonchalantly setting his hoopak as a spear against possible charge.
The owlbear growls a deep grumble and rises from the carcase of the elk, blood and guts dripping from it's beak.

Vexin smiles at the owlbear
Hawkeye charges into the owlbear that is smothering Riverwind.
The scimitar strikes the owlbear in the back, but his hold is still strong.
ZtB
It is mostly in ruins. The walls are about 8 to 15 feet tall and the roof is completly gone. Many holes have been punched into the sides.
ZtB chants and makes a few precision movements.
The magical bolts blast into the owlbear, leaving searing marks on its hide. It still maintains it's grip on it's next meal.
Taurus
ZtB: Let him go beast.
Taurus focus' on removing the owlbear from Riverwind, waiting for the best moment to mark a sharp thrust of his longsword for its flank.
The owlbear shrieks in pain and the grip seems to loosen.
Riverwind tries to escape once more.
He still remains in the grasp of the beast.
The owlbear continues it's assult on the kinght.
Taurus bites back the pain of a second blow that finds a chink in his armor, his focus on the other foe leaving him an easy target.
The claw finds it's mark again. The force of the attack snaps one of the straps of the knights armor, but his armor stays in place... for now.
The other owlbear tries to pull Riverwind back with him.
AoP for Taurus and Zhage.
Taurus lunges at the creature as it moves past!
The owlbear collapses on top of the ranger, but it appears to be motionless.
Taurus pulls his longsword back from its thrust, bloody, and swings his eyes on the other creature. "Riverwind, fall back to the Princess."
The last Owlbear charges out at the kender
Vexin: Oops
The owlbear races past as the kender tries to set his spear against the beast
The agile kender narrowly dodges from the owlbears charge.
Vexin sticks his tongue out at the Owlbear
Brigg slices towards the owlbear.
Vexin: You should have been civil, stupid Owlbear!
The scythe slashes past the owlbear, missing.
Vexin
The stone sails past and bangs around the hollow of the tower
Vexin scoops up a rock and slings it (like a golb ball)
Vexin: Skitters ATTACK!
Vexin: [1d6+3 = 5]
Vexin: 3 con, 5 damage
Hawkeye attacks the owlbear.
The sword pierces deep into the guts of the creature, but it stands defiently grunting towards Taurus
ZtB
Taurus
Taurus thrusts his shield forward to open up a hole before lunging forward with his longsword at the owlbear. "Briggs, Hawkeye; cover Vexin."
ZtB chants make a few movements and then takes off onto the tower above the OB3
the sword strikes the beast.
Riverwind struggles out from under the owlbear the collapsed on top of him.
The owlbear goes to grapple the knight with his massive claws.
The owlbear easily grapples the knight in his grip and begins to crush the knight.
Taurus grits his teeth, straining in the grip of the owlbear.
The other owlbear ignores the Skitter and goes after the kender.
The claw diggs into the kender's arm.
Vexin: Ow!
Vexin: Bad Owlbear!
Brigg tries to fell the beast before it crushes Taurus to death.
Vexin: I tried to be nice to you!
The scythe misses it's mark again.
Vexin
Vexin whirls his hoopak down and up again (like a golf club)
the owlbear seems to look down at the weasle now, howling in pain at it.

Hawkeye tries to hit the beast with his sword.
The blade digs in deep. Hawkeye brings his axe down on the beast as well
It too, hits. The owlbear still stands, but seems to stumble in its step
ZtB
A cold blast strikes the owlbear, but he seems to hardly notice.
Taurus
Taurus grasps at the feathered arm of the owlbear and attempts to twist it into a position behind its back, slide atop it and pin it.
The knight struggles to get position on the owlbear, and nearly does it until the owlbear overpowers him, maintaining his grasp
Riverwind comes towards the owlbear, swinging his sword.
The beast is struck down by the rangers sword and the knight falls to the ground out from the owlbears grasp
Taurus lays on his back panting heavily. "Thank you..."
Riverwind nods before starting towards the last owlbear
The final owlbear swipes his massive claw at the Dire Weasel
Vexin: owwwww
The massive claw slashes a chunk out of the weasel.
Brigg runs to the aid of the adorable companion of Vexin.
The scythe slashes into the belly of the creature, blood pours out onto the road.
Vexin
Vexin: CON dmg
Vexin plants his hoopak in the ground, pull pack, and lets fly
The rock just misses.
Hawkeye glances to Taurus to see if he's alright before running into the fray.

The scimitar slashes into the beasts back. The axe follow in behind the sword.
ZtB
ZtB let's his staff drop to the drop and releases a bolt from his crosbow.
The bolt pierces the skin of the owlbear but again the beast doesn't seem to notice.
Taurus
Taurus nods to Hawkeye before he rises to his feet and steadily approaches the fray.

Riverwind follows suit, attacking with his sword.
Blood splatters across the ground as the sword slashes deep into the arm of the owlbear.
The Owlbear is overwhelmed and randomly attacks on of his many opponents.
Vexin: 11/28
The claw slashes into Skitter with force.
Brigg brings his scythe round, hoping to finish the beast.
The owlbear looks weakened but still stands
Vexin
Vexin: [1d4+2 = 6]
The stone clunks the owlbear square in the jaw. He collapses heavily to the ground.
Taurus: Nice shot Vexin!
Vexin nurses Skitter's wounds
Riverwind Collapses against the tower wall.
Taurus smiles, relaxing finally as he looks around at his companions; panting heavily. Lowering his hand to his ribs.
ZtB climbs down from his spot on the tower and retrieves his staff.
ZtB: Good shot indeed
Vexin flexes and puffs out his chest proudly at the killshot
Taurus: Goldmoon, are you alright?
Taurus looks for the Princess.
Goldmoon nods as she runs to Riverwind.
Riverwind: I'll be fine. Just tired.
Taurus: You fight fiercely Riverwind, you make your people proud.
Taurus reaches around him and slowly draws the staff from its sling at his back, stepping forward he offers it to Goldmoon.
Riverwind: As do you all.
Vexin pulls the bloody Skitters to Goldmoon, for once silently waiting for attention
hesitantly takes the staff. She touches it to Riverwind as it bursts into blue light.
Vexin: Taurus, your armor was hurt in the fight, right?
Taurus cleans the blood from his longsword and sheaths it, inspecting his hand as he opens and clenches it. Cutting a look in the direction of Zhage; the first time he has ever been under the effect of such a spell before.
Taurus: Yes, a little...
Vexin attempts to fix Taurs' armor
Vexin does a quick patch up on the strap of Taurus' armor.
Taurus: You're very useful to have around Vexin, I didn't know Kender knew such things.
Vexin: pfft... you try wandering the woods alone for decades without knowing how to armor yourself
Goldmoon brings the staff around and holds it out to Taurus, silently asking if he needs its powers
Taurus: And.. though wounded, I have never felt so... vigorous, strong... Zhage, your magics are strong.
Taurus takes the staff from Goldmoon, lowering to a crouch beside Skitter.
ZtB (with a slight smile): You sword arm did most of the work, I mearly helped it out a little.
Taurus closes his eyes and runs his fingers through the fur of the Weasel, focusing his attention on the staff to heal the creature.
The staff glows blue as the staff's power begins to heal Skitter
ZtB walks towards one of the owlbears and does a quick one over.
Taurus: And you too, fought valiantly, little friend.
Vexin: Thank you Taurus!
Taurus ruffles the Weasels fur before he rises, looking to the others.
Zhage does not notice anything unsual about the animals.
Vexin: Just a little scratch
Taurus grins
Taurus: You'll live.
Vexin: I showed it!
Taurus finally runs his hand along the deep gash upon his midsection, once more focusing to unleash the power of the staff.
ZtB (rising): that you did
Taurus: I wonder if there is a dragon inside the tower?
The staff pulses blue again as the power flows through you.
Vexin: no, i checked already...
ZtB: From my little walk up the tower, I didn't see anything
Vexin: Only the one Owlbear, too stupid to be friendly
Vexin: and a carcass
Taurus breaths a sigh of relief, slining the staff over his shoulder.
Taurus: Did you search it carefully?
Vexin: Well, dragons are big. So no
Taurus: Dragons sometimes leave clues, I heard.
Vexin: Ooh, like notes?
Taurus: Aye.
Vexin: nope, no dragon notes
Taurus: Oh well, better luck next time.
Vexin: Did I tell you abouot the time i had dinner with an albino Troll?
Taurus: You never did finish that tale...
Vexin: Well kindof... it ended up Troll a la flambe
Taurus sits on some rubble, drinking from his waterskin.
Vexin: It was very rude, didn't want to make conversation
Vexin: it did tie me up to give me something to do though
Taurus: The troll?
Vexin: that was nice
Vexin: yes
Vexin: white and ugly
Vexin: very smelly
Taurus: Perhaps that is why it was rude, it had no friends.
Vexin: i think it was diseased inside, it must have been rotting alove
Taurus: Thats because Trolls don't cook their meat, typically. They're afraid of fire.
Vexin: i tried to be its friend, but accidentally blew it up with my wand of fireballs
Taurus: Oh...?
Vexin: I think i cooked the troll... well done
Taurus looks at the Kender curiously.
Taurus: It is for the best.
Vexin: Funny thing is, i didn't know it was even a wand!
Taurus laughs
Riverwind (Scowls at the kender): We should continue on.
ZtB (raising an eyebrow): Fireballs do have that effect...
Vexin: guess he wont have me over for dinner again
Taurus: He wont have anyone for dinner again.
Vexin: Yes yes grumpy Riverwind... we go
Taurus nods slightly, glancing to Riverwind. Standing.
Taurus: You are right, lets continue.
Vexin hops on Skitters and points valiantly forward... well, he thought it looked valiantly...
Taurus: Last one there is a Troll a la flambe?
Taurus looks to Vexin.
Vexin: Yes!
Vexin: You know the game!
Vexin charges forward
Taurus laughs and trudges onwards.
The pass carries on for only another 50 feet or so before it opens up on the otherside. Fog curls about the swampy water that sits before and huge twisted trees claw towards the sky.
The exposed roots of ironclaw trees twist through the mud and swamp water. Vines, trees, and ferns block vision beyond a few feet. The ground is soaked and spongy. All is in shadow; the sun only briefly glimmers through the jungle overhead. Ruined infrastructure juts from the underbrush: broken foundation stones, shattered columns, ancient carvings.
Vexin examines the owlbear feathers and claws he had gathered on the way to Xak Tsaroth... braiding them into a necklace
Looking to the ground, you all notice that many creatures passed this way. The look faintly reptilian.
Taurus: Can you pick out the tracks of your kin from the others?
Examines the ground.
Riverwind Examines the ground.
Taurus looks towards Riverwind and Hawkeye, trudging through the soft ground. His attention returning shortly however to their surroundings, feeling slightly on edge in this place.
Riverwind: They carry on this way.
Taurus: Let us follow.
Riverwind: there are fewer human tracks here, however...
Taurus: ...perhaps others went their seperate way.
Vexin rides in front, scouting ahead
You travel on for a short distance through the dark, murky swamp.
Thick vines, woven into strong ropes, stretch like a long spider web between two sections of land. Each end is knotted around several ironclaw trees. Slimy mosses cover the ropes.
ZtB: This moss is disgusting.
Taurus pauses a moment to light a torch, holding it high to force back the darkness.
Vexin: Roe bridge?
Vexin: Vine Bridge?
Hawkeye: either that or we go into the water...
Vexin looks down
Taurus: I prefer the bridge.
Taurus: I'll go first, if it can support me it can support you all.
Brigg looks nerveously into the green scum that covers the water. a sour, metallic smell floats on the air.
Vexin: We should tie a vine around you
Taurus: Good idea Vexin
Vexin: You wouldn't want to fall into that cesspool
Taurus: Then I can secure the other end.
Taurus gives the rope a couple of tugs to make sure its secure before he begins to head across the bridge.
ZtB: Let's hope it supports your weight
Mcgarnagle: anyone who crosses must make a balance or climb check, your choice.
The knight braves the vine bridge, getting to the halfway mark before he slips. He tries to balance himself by grabbing the vine bridge but it twists over, tumbling him into the water.
ZtB: Taurus!
Vexin: Oops...
Taurus lets out a cry before its cut off with a slash of murky water.
Mcgarnagle: roll percentile... if you roll under 25%, you swallow some water.
Mcgarnagle: The water here is 6 feet deep.
ZtB looks around for another vine to throw to Taurus
Taurus keeps his eyes closed, tilts his head forward and just trudges through the water to other side; no point trying to swim.
As you start to walk, the ground under the water slops up and your head emerges from the scum
Vexin: pew! you smell Taurus!
Taurus looks -very- unimpressed as he emerges, spitting out some of the murky water. He turns and looks to them coverred in slime, head to toe.
ZtB: worse than the troll vexin?
Taurus: Careful.. the moss... its slippery...
Vexin: Oh no
Vexin: Rotting living troll is much worse
You walk for another 10 feet towards the other side and all of a sudden you plummet back into the sludge, the ground suddenly dropping.
roll precent again.
You continue to the other side, keeping your mouth shut tight. Thankfully so, as the ground beneath the water rises and falls to different depths.
Taurus looks like a slight shade of green by the time he's done.
Brigg: Who's next?
Vexin: No problem!
Taurus attempts to secure his end of the vine around somthing stirdy.
ZtB: I guess I'll give it a shot.. unless you want to vex
Vexin bounes forward
Vexin: 12
the kender, in all his joy of being in this place, bounds across but his vigor is too much and the bridge dumps him into the water as well
Vexin: pew!
Mcgarnagle: precent please
Taurus frowns and grips the vine to pull the Kender in.
Vexin: both sides
Vexin eventualy make it to the far side with the knight, both covered in green scum
Vexin: Come Skitters, Calm
Taurus looks between himself and Vexin both covered in slime, then to the other group.
ZtB: I guess I'll go next..
Brigg: Go ahead, Zhage...
Taurus: ...good luck.
the mage trips on his robes and plunges into the scumy waters.
Mcgarnagle: precent.
Zhage eventually manages to get to the other side, and like the others, he is covered in slime. His spell book seems to be slightly damaged, but it managed to survive, miraculously.
Mcgarnagle cautiously crosses the bridge.
Taurus helps Zhage out of the slime, brushing a leach off his shoulder.
Brigg, like the others, falls into the slime water.
ZtB: well... this is quite disgusting..
Taurus: At least your among fr--
Taurus cringes as Briggs splashes.
Taurus: --friends
Godlmoon crosses as Brigg swims to shore.
ZtB (looking back at Briggs): Here comes another one..
The Que-Shu Princess manages to cross the treacherous bridge without taking a plunge.
ZtB cheers
Taurus smiles to Goldmoon.
Hawkeye follows as well
ZtB: Atleast someone was able to cross ok
Taurus: As agile as you are wise, M'Lady.
Hawkeye stumbles on the slick bridge and falls with a splash
Taurus bows his head.
Finally, Riverwind takes his turn as the other ranger swims to the others.
ZtB tries to get some of the slime off of himself.
Riverwind manages to get mostly across, before he slips. The bridge teaters but he manages to crawl to safety
Brigg: This is horrible! I think I'm going to be sick...
Vexin: ew
Taurus: Lets walk it off...
Brigg wipes scum from his hair
This island leads to the north east or off towards the South east.
Taurus: Which path did your kin take?
Vexin: NE is Xak Tsaroth
Taurus: I see...
Riverwind: The tracks seem to have blended in with the others. Most head off to the south east.
Taurus nods slowly, then looks towards each path.
Taurus: Then we are at a crossroads.
Taurus: North east to Xak Tsaroth, where we might find answers about the gods.
Taurus: Or south east, to find answers about the villages.
Vexin: We're close to both it seems
ZtB: Either way, but hopefully, there will be fresh water there..
Hawkeye: (POLL) North East?
Vexin: Lets go the way of the tracks, then to Xak Tsaroth
Vexin: both head to the coast
Taurus nods.
Taurus: I agree.
ZtB: Sounds ok to me.
Taurus: Xak Tsaroth has been there for hundreds of years, it can wait an extra day.
You travel for another 200 feet or so towards the South east
The soaked ground slopes into the stagnant pools of the swamp. Here, a giant ironclaw tree has fallen, spanning the waters to another section of ground. Thick, slick green moss drapes the log.
Vexin: Shouldn't be a day
Taurus eyes the log.
Brigg sighs
Vexin: Not again...
Brigg: at least it's a bit more sturdy that the vines...
Taurus: I'll go again... secure the vine Vexin, please.
Vexin looks for tracks on the vines
You can clearly see where slime is not covering the log. It probably would have slime there had not someone or something crossed it.
Taurus waits until the vine is secured before he cautiously begins to head across the log.
Vexin: Hey no jumping off on purpose!
Vexin: You don't have wings silly knight!
You move a few feet onto the log and notice that it is very sturdy and not very slippery. It should be easy to cross.
Taurus slips about for a moment until he gets his foot, stands straight and carefully crosses.
Taurus: Indeed, wings would come quite in handy about now.
ZtB: I'll try it next..
Taurus: The log seems stirdy, we should be able to cross easily..
ZtB crosses without much issue.
Vexin: Come Skitters! Calm.
Mcgarnagle: spot checks please.
Vexin, Zhage, Brigg, Hawkeye, and Goldmoon all notice that four dragonmen emerge from the trees and two block your path on the other side of the log. Taurus notices but too late.
