You and the refugees of Abanasinia have found peace here in Thorbardin, the dwarven kingdom. The dwarves have offered a plot of land nestled just outside of the Southgate. The icy plains stretch out to the horizon. The dwarves have left their south gate open, allowing you and the other refugees to come and go as you please.
It has been a month since your confrontation with Verminaard and his forces. With Verminaard dead, there has been little notice of the dragonarmies, although the Hylar dwarves guarding the Northgate have reported seening red dragon's scouting the Tharkadan mountain range, yet there has been little sightings of draconians or any other dragonarmy forces.
Goldmoon and Riverwind have wed, the wedding service held by Elistan. The people rejoyce in the union of the two plainsmen.
Over the past month, Elistan has spread word of the true gods to the refugees, and many have come to accept them back into their lives. Some still resist, but they accept the choices of their fellow towns people. Korto has taken particular interest, and after a few weeks, he too has found his true calling; a priest of Reorx.
On a clear, cool night, the council for the refugee's have called together a meeting to discuss their next plan of action, and you have all been invited to attend.
Elistan: we would be honoured to have you attend our meeting. You have helped these people so much, and yet they still will require your help, if you will at least come and listen
Taurus arrives in a much more managable state than which has presented itself in all of his journey's. His armor is clean, as are his clothes pressed neatly with lines running paralell downwards. His board is trimmed, clean, hair tied back in a tidy ponytail.
Vexin Sixtoes: Of course! I'm sure my great wisdom is required.
Vexin Sixtoes: They could never hold the meeting successfully without me, ya know
Taurus: It would be an honor.
Elistan smiles at the kender's bravado
Elistan: Then until tonight.
Elistan nods to you before he walks off to complete his other duties of the day
Taurus: Vexin.
Taurus: I must ask you to be on your best behavour for this meetings.
Taurus gives him an even look.
Taurus: I know how you like to get carried away with sharing your 'stories' with everyone as quickly as possible when they're gathered at these events. But you must remember this is -their- meeting, not ours.
Taurus: Such as... at funeral.s
Taurus coughs.
Vexin Sixtoes: Well that was because...
Vexin Sixtoes: Hey that was a good story!
Taurus: Good story or no, twas not appropriate to interupt the ceremonial speaker to pervey it.
Taurus: And in special bad taste concidering the theme.
Taurus smiles a little, betraying the truth that he was not truly upset with Vexin. He'd come to understand, and perhaps even appreciate, the Kender's odd ways.
Looking around the camp, you see Gilthanas and his sister Laurana. They are near the outskirts of the camp. Lauruana has donned some armor and it appears that Gilthanas is sparing with her. At times, the elven prince stops and corrects his younger sister in her technique.
Vexin Sixtoes: Ok, I'll try, Taurus
On the other side of camp, you see Riverwind standing with his face to the south, surveying the plains. He acts silent sentry to the camp
Vexin Sixtoes turns his attention to the next subject, completely forgetting the last
Taurus grins then nods.
Taurus: There seems to be an uneasy peace settling.
Taurus: Perhaps it might be appropriate to gather those whom have travelled with us for a social debreifing.
Taurus: At... a tavern? After the meeting this evening?
Taurus: What do you think, Vexin?
Vexin Sixtoes: Tavern is good! Maybe Otik's... I'm hungry for his Spiced Potatoes!
Vexin Sixtoes: Zhage could just teleport us there and back! I do love the feeling of being teleported!
Taurus: Teleported? I don't think he is quite ready for such a spell. Though, it couldn't help to ask.
Taurus nods over to Gilthanas and Laurana.
Taurus: First thing first, however. Tis no debriefing without invitations.
Vexin Sixtoes wanders over to Zhage and asks him if he can teleport the group to The Inn of the Last Home and back, later on
Zhage shakes his head. "Not yet Vexin. Perhaps soon."
Taurus makes his way towards the two elves, standing to the side as he watches their graceful sparing for a moment.
Vexin Sixtoes: Oh ok. Want a bat-wing crunchie then? it's almost as good as Otik's Spiced Potatoes!
Zhage: That's ok Vexin. I'm good with what I have.
Vexin Sixtoes: Your loss! *CRUNCH*
The two elves look quite skilled in their moves, Gilthanas more so than Laurana, but she is still quite capable. Gilthanas notices the knight as he parries an incoming swing. He grabs Laurana's wrist and lowers her swordarm gently before sheathing his own. He makes his way toward Taurus and Laurana follows.
Zhage goes back to the book that he was reading.
Vexin Sixtoes happily chews with his mouth open, accidentally spitting a few wong-bones on Zhage's robe without noticing
Taurus bows his head slightly to the approaching Elves. Whilst Gilthanas was his companion, and in his eyes under his command, throughout their travels they are still of royal blood.
Zhage instictivly wipes the bones off himself without taking his eyes from the book.
Taurus: M'Lady, M'Lord. It is a pleasure to see you.
Gilthanas: No need for such formalities, my friend.
Gilthanas pats Taurus on the shoulder heartily
Taurus smiles some, his stature changing some; though not much.
Taurus: It looks like your sister has your grace in the sword.
Taurus: The life of a home-keeper not for you, Lauruna?
Gilthanas: It is good to keep our fighting powress up. We have won a battle against the Dragonarmies, but I fear the war is far from over.
Taurus smiles with jest evident in his eyes.
Laurana (not noticing the jest, she becomes dead serious): All elven woman are trained with sword and bow.
Taurus: Indeed my friend. We've merely toppled one player in this war. The time will shortly come when we must take up arms again. But, whilst we can we should enjoy peace - it reminds us what we fight for.
Gilthanas raises his eybrows to Taurus and attempts to hide his smirk
Taurus raises an eyebrow at Lauruana then, dispite his best efforts, errupts into laughter.
Gilthanas joins the knight in his mirth. Laurana seems confused as she looks between the two men
Taurus quietens done some after a moment, shaking his head.
Taurus: Gilthanas, Laurana, you're both formerly invited to the 'debriefing' at the main Hlyar tavern this evening after the meeting with Elistan.
Gilthanas: We shall attend.
Taurus: Excellant!
Gilthanas looks to his sister and she nods, before Gilthanas looks back to Taurus
Taurus looks over towards the silent figure of Riverwind, thoughtful for a moment.
The wind blows the plainsman's long dark hair. He stands unmoving, like a statue of ice.
Taurus: Excuse me a moment.
Taurus looks to Gilthanas, Laurana, taking his leave. He approaches Riverwind, somewhat loudly, so not as to startle the plainsman.
Taurus: Riverwind, married life cannot be so dire? can it?
Taurus hides a smile.
Riverwind (without looking at Taurus): Death is raised upon the wind. The state of our world. It t'was but a small dot back in Abanasinia, but now we are here, fighting for our lives and the fate of all these people... How can I bring a child into this world?
Riverwind continues to stare off across the Plains of Dust, their snowy expanse shining in the sunlight.
Vexin Sixtoes: Dire... like a dire lion! /em shifts into his new Dire Lion shape to entertin the others
Vexin Sixtoes shifts into his new Dire Lion shape to entertin the others
Taurus listens quickly, then his eyes widen some and as does his smile. He steps up beside Riverwind and places his hand on the man's shoulder with a hearty clap.
Taurus: Congratulations! By the gods you didn't waste any time!
Zhage appearing engrossed in his book, he ignores the shifting Kender.
Taurus: This is a time for rejoice Riverwind, not pesimism!
Riverwind looks stoicly toward Taurus. His dark expression does not change, but his eyes warm, though when he sees his friend's joy
Vexin Sixtoes roars loudly from right behind Zhage, then lets out a sickeningly absurd sound, which could only be a kender giggle from a lion's maw
Zhage absently runs spittle from the back of his neck.
Zhage then keeps reading.
Taurus: After the meeting tonight, I expect to see you and Goldmoon at the Hylar tavern. I'll hear no excuses. Ofcourse she won't be able to drink but there'll be song! dance! merryment.
Vexin Sixtoes quickly gets bored with Zhage, and leaps up onto a large rock nearby in a single bouond
Taurus slowly turns to look in the direction of Vexin, hearing the roar. He cringes some.
Taurus (Muttered): By Jolith...
Riverwind: I have a family to worry about, as well as rebuilding our tribe. We have suffered great losses at the hands of the dragonarmies. We shall be there, for we must not stand by in inaction much longer.
Riverwind also looks toward the kender in lion form. His eyes grow narrow and he grips his sword tightly.
Taurus: Its just Vexin.
Vexin Sixtoes shakes his mane, as he has seen lions do in his wanderlust.
Riverwind looks to Taurus with a faint hint of surprise
Vexin Sixtoes grins at Riverwind, which unfortunately only appears to be the baring of exceedingly large teeth
Taurus: You have only one concern now Riverwind. Your wife, and your child. Leave war to the young baechelors.
Taurus: You've more important decisions to make.
Lion (Vexin) cocks his head at Taurus, then tries to stand upright on his hind legs
Riverwind looks Taurus over, sizing the knight up for the task he has bestowed upon himself. Riverwind nods slightly before he turns and walks off.
Lion (Vexin) stands some 15' tall, upright, on top of the large rock... then roars deafeningly
Taurus smiles at Riverwind. Though his body language and words merry, bordering on mirthful, his eyes illustrate that he knows the war has only just begun. As Riverwind walks away he lets his mind wander for a moment at the prospect of one day himself having what the plainsman does.
Taurus shakes the thoughts from his head and turns, walking towards Vexin.
Taurus: Vexin. What did we say.
Zhage quietly casts a spell. As he finishes, a pair of hands move to where Vexin is and pushes him a little.
Lion (Vexin) lets loose a pathetic... ",eow..."
Taurus: No turning into animals larger than Riverwind, in settlements. Unless its an -emergency-.
Taurus: This is not an emergency, Vexin.
Lion (Vexin) yelps and topples off the rock with a large thump, and the ground rumbles
Taurus cant help but laugh.
Lion (Vexin) shifts back into kender shape, quickly losing over 3400 pounds
Zhage dismisses the hands and goes back to his book.
The children of the camp laugh as the lion falls. They run around it in glee
Taurus: You havn't seen Jeren or Hawkeye have you?
Vexin Sixtoes looks up at the children as he shifts and says "meow?"
Vexin Sixtoes gleefully runs arouond with the children, once again in Kender form
Jeren: I am here, Taurus.
Jeren walks up to the group from down a snow filled "street"
Taurus looks up to the approaching Jeren.
Jeren: I suppose you all have heard obut tonights meeting?
Vexin Sixtoes: Ooh... Taurus and Jeren, sitting in a tree!
Taurus: There you are!
Taurus groans at Vexin.
Jeren gaze lingers on Zhage a brief moment.
Taurus: Aye, I have. Since we'll all be together I thought we'd spend some time 'debriefing' at the tavern afterwards.
Jeren kicks snow at vexin in a playful manner
Taurus: We've all been very busy with our own responcibilities it would be nice to catch up.
Zhage catches the gaze and does a small wave before going back to his book.
Vexin Sixtoes: Hey!
Jeren (looks back at the knight): Yes, of course. It sounds like a good way to unwind. I can only imagine what will be in store for us in the days to come
Vexin Sixtoes creates water far enough above Jeren's head, in a mist, to where it snows for a moment... but only on her
Vexin Sixtoes: mmm... ale...
Vexin Sixtoes: I could drink Korto under the table!
Taurus: Aye, I expect some of us will be moving out soon. If you see Hawkeye, could you please ask him to come also?
Jeren: I don't think that will be a problem... He seems to find himself in the tavern almost hourly.
Taurus smiles, though a little sad that he has lost touch with his old friend. That business over Eben and Hawkeye in Skullcap never having been resolved.
Taurus: Oh?
Jeren nods gravely
Taurus: Perhaps I will ask him, personally. I had wished to speak with him, but I'm afraid my time had gotten away from me with all the new followers of the True Gods arising.
Jeren nods
The rest of the day passes as you continue to do your daily routine which has sunk in over the past month. The night grows cold and dark, and a chill wind shivers your bones. You see many of the camps inhabitants making their way to the central building that the dwarves have constructed for the makeshift town. This building has acted and served as the meeting hall for all those who have been displaced by the dragonarmies.
Taurus pulls his rich blue cloak tightly about him as he steps out of a makeshift street and across the open space to the meeting hall. His steps hustled, fearing he may be arriving late due to some duties he had to finish up.
Vexin Sixtoes: Well, time to make sure nobody messes up the meeting... what would they do without me?
You walk into the hall and a wave of hot air blasts into your face. The majority of the Refugee's are here and even a few Hylar dwarves. A quick scan over the crowd and you notice that Hawkeye is absent. Elistan steps forward and clears his throat.
Zhage wanders into the meeting hall and looks for an empty seat.
Elistan: Thank you for attending. Things have been pretty good for us these past few weeks. We have managed to salvage somewhat a normal life here, thanks to the generosity of the dwarves.
Taurus brows crease noting the absense of Hawkeye. Dispite his best intentions he did not have time to catch up with his old friend; caught up in other duties. Nodding to Zhage as he enters, he himself steps to the side of the hall to stand at ease quietly listening to the speaker.
the crowd clap with the last statment. Elistan waits for the applaus to die down before continuing.
Elistan: I know there has not been any sight of the Dragonarmies here at the Southgate. But the dwarves who stand guard at the Northgate have reported sightings of red dragons flying over the mountains. It is evident that the dragonarmy is still a threat in the northlands.
Taurus nods slowly as he listens, though dispite his best efforts his attention does waver.
Elistan: I know many of you have voiced your desieres to return to Abanasinia but I'm afraid, at this time, it cannot happen. With the sighting of the dragons, the council have become concerned that the army has reorganized themselves and will be marching on Thorbardin. It could be months, years... maybe never, but he threat is there.
Zhage wonders to himself who took over for the free folk since the final runin qith Eben.
Elistan: The lands here on the Plains of Dust have not been generous. the dwarves have helped us with the lack of food and water that these lands provide, but we cannot expect this generosity to last forever.
Elistan looks to Korto, who has been quietly standing near the edge of the stage. Elistan motions for the dwarf to come upon the stage.
Korto walks the stairs and comes to stand beside Elistan, but not before he hands the priest large rolled up piece of paper.
Elistan (quietly to Korto): thank you
Taurus interest seems to peek seeing the dwarf make his way up onto the stage. Watching intently as he had not expected anything different to happen at this meeting compared to any other.
Elistan unrolls the large paper and holds it, facing the crowd.
Elistan: this is a map of the southern lands. The dwarves of Thorbardin have been knid enough to provide this ancient map to us.
Elistan: I am sure everyone here has heard of the great lordcity of Tarsis. It's mighty winged ships sail for far off lands, lands rich with resources and free from conflict.
Taurus nods slowly, mostly to himself, than in recognition to Elistan's rhetoric.
Zhage looks a little shocked with the rememberance of the name.
Elistan: It is our intention to send a group of deligates to Tarsis to seek passage on some of their vessels. We shall make exodus to free lands with which we can survive, and perhaps call our new home.
Vexin Sixtoes: I once met a great wizard in Tarsis..
Elistan: We do not expect all of us to go there right now. We only need a few brave souls who can see if this plan is possible...
Zhage (quietky): I know a wizard that traveled there several times..
a silent lull falls over the hall.
Elistan scans the crowd slowly, his eyes linger on each of you, but not for long.
Zhage looks around at the now silent crowd.
Gilthanas: I will go.
Zhage: Looks like I am in as well.
Gilthanas steps forward, Laurana stands almost simultaneously with her brother.
Taurus stands upright, locking his eyes with Elistan for a brief moment and nodding to him; as though assuring him he has his support and his sword. Curious, however, to see who else will rise for the challenge. Smiling as the Elves step forward.
Elistan smiles to those who have volounteered
Jeren See's Taurus stand and does like wise
Vexin Sixtoes: We're off to see the wizard...!
Elistan frows to Jeren.
Zhage: You see me everyday Vexin.
Vexin Sixtoes: hmm...
Elistan: Jeren. I commend your bravery and zeal for wanting to help us, but I was hoping you could assist us in another fashion...
Zhage: Doesn't take much, unless I don't want to be found.
Taurus glances between Elistan and Jeren.
Jeren looks to Elistan, puzzled.
Elistan: You have a gift from Mishakal, the goddess of health and renewal. These people need your faith more than ever. Not only that, you are a skilled warrior, one who can help protect those less fortunate should the need arise.
Taurus nods slowly as Elistan speaks.
Vexin Sixtoes: I can find you when invisible, Zhage! I can cast Blindsight now!
Jeren hesitates, and begins to protest. She stops a moment and nods to Elistan
Jeren: I will assit in anyway I can.
Zhage: Maybe..
Elistan: Excellent! So it is decided. This group shall seekout better lands for you... for us!
The crowd clap and many turn to give thanks to you, shaking your hands, some even hug you as they fight back tears.
Vexin Sixtoes: You're welcome, no problem, I'll save the world again
Taurus smiles despite the weight of such a task. Turning to those who thank him he assures them all will be well and they'll be planting new crops before next summer.
Zhage (quietly to Vexin): Here's where Taurus gets some action from the women..
The crowd begins to exit from the hall. as they do, Elistand and Korto approach you.
Elistan: Thank you for your bravery. It means alot to these people.
Taurus stands more rigidly as Elitan and Korto approaches, nodding to them.
Vexin Sixtoes: What do you mean Zhage?
Zhage: Nevermind
Korto: As a delegate for the dwarves of Thorbardin, I request that I might come with you as well...
Taurus: It would be immoral for us to cease our assistance now, when your people have turned to us in this time of need.
Vexin Sixtoes: Taurus, Zhage says you're going to get action form the women here... what's that mean?
Taurus: It would be an honor to have you by our side K--
Taurus slowly turns to Vexin, then to Zhage...
Vexin Sixtoes looks completely innocent
Taurus: What Zhage means, Vexin, is...
Zhage casts invisiblibilty upon himself.
Taurus thinks.
Taurus: ACtually, I'm not sure. What do you mean Zha--
Taurus: Zhage?
Taurus looks around.
Zhage then moves away from where he was.
Taurus: Where did he go?
Vexin Sixtoes casts Blindsight
Korto: We can discuss things more about our journey. I can show you the map as well.
Vexin Sixtoes: He's right there!
Vexin Sixtoes points at Zhage
Korto hel holds up the scroll
Taurus nods to Korto.
Korto: Perhaps somewhere where there are tables and chairs?
Taurus: Aye, we should make a decision on our route early so we can make plans. Details can wait however. Some of the group are meeting at one of your Hylar taverns, perhaps you'd like to join us Korto.
Taurus: Ale and a hot meal will help with the decision making process.
Vexin Sixtoes: Ale!
Zhage reappears and tries to remain quiet.
Vexin Sixtoes: I'll drink you under the table Korto!
Taurus: Its just a shame Zhage dissapeared, I knew he was looking forward to it.
Taurus looks directly at Zhage.
Taurus: Oh. There you are.
Korto: yes, let us depart to the tavern.
Korto (to Vexin): only because you're shorter than me, kender.
Zhage shrugs. "Forgot my book someplace else."
Taurus: We're heading to the Tavern, still interested?
Zhage: Sure.
Taurus seems to have forgotten the whole Zhage filling Vexin's head with seedy ideas.
Taurus: Excellant. Lets head off! Elistan, you're not to pious already to join us?
Taurus grins.
Elistan scratches his beard and smiles.
Elistan: I don't think that Paladine would look ill toward a drink or two.
Taurus: A wise woman she be.
Vexin Sixtoes finally gets Korto's joke, and runs to catch up "HEY DWARF!"
Zhage: I may not be religious as you Taurus, but I think Paladine is a man..
Taurus: Forgive me, my thoughts were elsewhere.
Taurus smiles sheepishly.
You all make your way up the gentle slope to the Southgate. The dwarves standing guard there wave hello to you as you pass. The Southgate complex houses many dwarves who have been charged to guard the south entrance and refugees so luckily a tavern has be created within the complex as well.
Vexin Sixtoes: I think Taurus' thoughts were on Action with the women
Zhage (quietly): A lady must have walked by..
Vexin Sixtoes: Whatever that means
Taurus declines to comment. Approaching the entrance of the tavern he opens the door for his companions, allowing them to pass before following them in.
Zhage nods to Taurus and carefully sidesteps him.
You enter and a large number of dwarves are seated around, enjoying each other's company. You see in the cornor, Hawkeye sitting alone with spilt ale and many empty mugs scattered around him
Taurus lets the door close behind him, grinning at all the dwarves; having learnt how fond of the ale they are. Then, he spots Hawkeye.
Taurus: Grab a table, order me a stout. I'll be over in a moment.
Taurus makes his way towards Hawkeye, approaching him from behind and clapping a friendly hand on his shoulder.
Vexin Sixtoes: They're dwarves... they're all stout
Taurus: I was told I'd find you here, old friend.
Hawkeye pulls his shoulder from Taurus' grasp.
Vexin Sixtoes motions to a nearby dwarf
Zhage finds a table and awaits the others.
Vexin Sixtoes: Hey, my friend there says he wanted to order you
Hawkeye: wha... you wan..?
Vexin Sixtoes: He called you "Stout"
Taurus blinks.
Taurus: Hawkeye? Its me... Taurus?
the dwarf looks confused toward the kender and creturns to his drink
Zhage: Want a pint Vexin?
Hawkeye: Off makin th- *hick*- peace, eh?
Vexin Sixtoes: Are you calling me pint-sized?
Vexin Sixtoes: I'll take a regular Tankard!
Vexin Sixtoes: Thank you!
Zhage: That works.
Vexin Sixtoes smiles happily
Taurus: No, I'm afraid we're far from peace at the moment. Which leads me to my question.
Vexin Sixtoes swings his legs, his feet not touching the floor
Taurus: Have you found the answer at the bottom of the tankard you're looking for? Or are you going to completely through your life away?
Zhage looks at Vexin curiously.
Zhage: You'd think dwarf sided chairs would fit you Vexin.
Hawkeye looks up at Taurus with bleary eyes. His head sways as he tries to focus on him.
Taurus shakes his head slowly in dissapointment.
Taurus (Quietly): Hawkeye... want happened to you.
Hawkeye: Wha you care? Sssstupid knight... You sssho*hick* da lisssten'd
Vexin Sixtoes: I'm a bit shorter...
Vexin Sixtoes: Actually, I think they just make their chairs too big
Taurus: I was wrong Hawkeye, you were right. I should have listened, I should have saw it. I am sorry. Nothing can change what happened.
Taurus: But... if you're going to bury yourself in the bottom of a tankard whilst the rest of your people suffer at the claws of those whom you swore to oppose.. then...
Taurus: Perhaps you're no better than Eben.
Hawkeye Violently hits the mugs around him, they go flying across the room, one hits the knight in the elbow.
Hawkeye: Go.
Hawkeye: Away.
Hawkeye glowers at Taurus
Zhage looks at Taurus and Hawkeye, concerned,
Taurus doesnt flinch at Hawkeye's outburst, even as the mug slams into his elbow splashing its remains on his once clean vestment. He nods once and bows his head to the man whom he once respected.
Taurus: I hope you realise your folly before it consumes you... friend.
Taurus turns and heads back towards his companions, his eyes lowered in sadness.
Laurana places her hand gently on Taurus' shoulder as he sits down
Korto watches Taurus util he is ready to proceed.
Taurus looks to Laurana quietly, releasing a quiet sigh. Then, with a forced smile he takes Laurana's hand and squeezes it gently before turning his attention to Korto.
Taurus: So, this map.
Korto: right.
Korto unrolls the scroll and displays it flat on the table.
Taurus points to the road running through Hopeful.
Taurus: This appears to be the most direct route.
Korto: Yes. we will have to stock up on supplies, as it is a two week journey to Tarsis. The only comunity is about halfway between called Hupeful
Taurus: If we could procure a vesil in Tarsis we coudl sail it up north and more it off the coast here. *points* Near Hopeful. This means there will be less chance of ambush.
Taurus nods to Korto.
Gilthanas: That is wise. There will be less travel for the refugees as well.
Taurus: I don't suppose there is much cover from the sky across the Kharolis Plains?
Korto: I do not know. I have not been out of Thorbardin. Before the Cataclysim, they were a fertile plain but things change...
Elistan: There will be few from Abanasinia who have been this far south. Thorbardin was a physical barrier that none from the northlands could cross until now.
Taurus: I suppose we'll find out when we get there. We'll also have to find a Captain we can trust in Tarsis, I know little about the sea and I do not wish to be betrayed by the lure of gold.
Taurus: That can work in our favor, at least it will slow the Dragon Armies down.
Zhage: If they haven't found a way around the mountains.
Elistan: It seems that if you hurry, we should be safe from the Dragonarmies. They occupy the north lands now, and the same barriers of Thorbardin block their armies just as they do our people.
Taurus nods quietly, to both eben and Zhage. Seeming thoughtful.
Taurus: On the morrow we gather supplies and depart under the cover of darkness. Those circling dragons are no doubt scouts.
Gilthanas (to Zhage): It would take their army months and months to get around the mountains, but it is a possiblility.
Taurus: If they see us leave the south gate and head for Tarsis they might be able to foil our plans.
Zhage nods.
Zhage: Is there anyone that may have settled in the area between here and Tarsis?
Gilthanas: I agree. the dragons are the biggest threat to us now. We have been lucky to have not seen any to the south of the mountains.
Zhage: I'm thinking farm homes or whatnot.
Taurus: Additionally, its very likely they have spy's in Tarsis already. So its going to be neccasary to employ a measure of tact and subversion to ensure we get a ship north un-noticed. Jolith forbid a dragon come upon the refugee's huddled in the hull of a frigate.
Korto: The only settlement is Hopeful. Before the Cataclysim, they were but a small town. I wouldn't think much has changed since then
Elistan nods as he unconsiously sucks on his upperlip
Taurus looks to Elistan, expectantly.
Gilthanas: So it is settled. We will stock up on supplies. The farther south we get, the colder it will get. We will need warm clothing.
Taurus: Winter clothing it is.
Taurus: Korto, do the Hylar have the facilities available for such purchases?
Korto: The dwarves have no need for such things living under the mountain. But Hopeful might have proper garb if you can manage for seven days without.
Taurus: We'll just make do.
Taurus: This river, here.
Taurus looks back down to the map intently for a moment, pointing his finger to the River that runs west of Hopeful into the Gulf of Tarsis.
Taurus: If we can moore the ship at its mouth and some barges can be constructed, we could ferry the refugee's down to the ship. This means we won't need to drag children and the elderley along a long walk; ore require beasts of burden.
Taurus: Do you think your people could scout a passage underground to there, check its depth, and prepare such barges?
Taurus: Some of the plainsmen will be able to assist, ofcourse.
Elistan: While you go to Tarsis, we can scout the terrain there.
Taurus: Excellant.
Korto: and my people can easily construct barges for you.
Taurus: Then its settled.
Taurus turns the map this way and that, getting a lay of the land. Trying to make an estimate of how long it would take for their party to reach Hopeful.
Korto: King Hornfel has also told me that any supplies you need, the Hylar shall provide.
Taurus: Please offer King Hornfel our deepest thanks.
You estimate that it should take no more than a week.
Zhage: Shelter for this trip shouldn't be an issue, as long as we have wood for fires.
Gilthanas: There is very little in way of trees, at least from what we can see from the camp. The Plains of Dust is quite desolute.
Taurus: It might be neccasary to cold camp the first few days, so as not to give away our position.
Zhage: I have a spell that I would like to try, but the temperature may prove a problem.
Gilthanas: what spell is that, Zhage?
Taurus: Zhage, would you have any spells that could provide us with mounts for the journey?
Zhage: I call it Zhage's Secure Shelter. Would last an entire night.
Zhage: I do have a spell that can do that as well.
Taurus: The less time we spend vulnerable in the open the happier I will be.
Zhage: But I cannot cast that spell the amount of times needed for our group.
Taurus: Perhaps you can help, Gilthanas?
Taurus takes a count of how many people will be traveling.
Zhage: Had I known, I could have made a few scrolls in advance for this.
Lion (Vexin): I am my own mount!
Lion (Vexin) happily proclaims
Gilthanas: I only dabble in magic. I am no where as skillful in the arts as Zhage is.
Taurus nods slowly.
Taurus: Could you prepare some scrolls, Zhage? Just for the first day? To put some distance between us and them.
Zhage: I don't know if I'll have the time to make them.
Taurus: Aye, then we must use our own steam.
Taurus smiles.
Zhage: What's the final number of travelers? I can at most make 6 mounts..
Taurus: That should be enough.
Zhage: Ok, but if I do that, you cannot rely on me for offensive support.
Taurus: I understand. We'll on require it for the first day of travel, just to get out of sight of the dragon scouts. If thats acceptable?
Taurus raises a brow at Zhage, smiling.
Zhage: That should be acceptable. These mounts will move quite fast just as a warning.
Zhage: And only last for about 8 hours..
Taurus: That'll do.
Taurus picks up his tankard, having all but forgotten about it. Taking a good hearty slug he smacks his lips, having forgotten how much he enjoys the bitter taste.
Zhage: When are we leaving?
Taurus: Tomorrow, nightfall.
Taurus: We'll travel throughout the night and make camp at sun up.
Zhage: Ok, tomorrow morning I will prepare the required spells.
You all prepare for the long trip to Tarsis. The next evening, you are seen off by the camp. Goldmoon, Riverwind, Elistan, and Jeren wish you luck and wave goodby to you.
Vexin Sixtoes waves merrily goodbye
Taurus seems somewhat dissapointed that Hawkeye didn't see them off but puts it to the back of his mind. Shouldering his pack and steeling himself for the journey he moves out with steady paced steps.
Zhage: Alright, this mount is for you Taurus.
Zhage chants and a few minutes later a quasi-like horse, all black with a smokey mane appears.
Zhage: Do you require a mount Vexin?
Vexin Sixtoes: No, not unless you have a spell to waste
Zhage chants several more times as mounts appear for himself, Gilth, his sister, Kroto and Vexin.
Vexin Sixtoes: Pretty horse!
Taurus blinks surprised, never actually having seen a Quasi-real mount before. He coo's to it, runs his fingers through its 'mane' to little effect before climbing atop and getting his bearings.
Zhage looks tired and barely mounts his horse.
Gilthanas looks impressed as he saddles up on the magical horse.
Zhage: We have about 7 hours to ride.
Vexin Sixtoes: Giddyup!
Taurus: Lets make good use of it!
Taurus spurs his mount on, surprised at the speed it travels and nearly falling off.
Taurus: You weren't kidding about the speed of these things!
The mounts shoot off with amazing speed, faster even than the Centaurs from Draken Wood.
Taurus calls out, already shooting ahead.
Zhage weakly smiles as he holds on.
The darkness drowns out everything, and you discover that it is erilly quiet, not even the sound of hooves crushing the snow and ice can be heard. The wind seems to be the only noise, which howls in your ears as you tear across the snowy plain.
in the first hour of travel, with little in way of protection from the bitter cold of winter's night, you find that the blowing wind soon chills you to the bones. All except, Vexin that is, who seems rather comfortable. Zhage seems to be the only one who feels his cheeks and ears begin to burn, the setting of frostbite evident.
Zhage starts shivering in his saddle, thinking as warm of thoughts as he can.
Taurus looks over towards Zhage, seeing the familiar signs. He calls for a slow in the pace and removes his cloak, handing it to Zhage for double insulation.
Vexin Sixtoes: Do I need to prepare a "Endure Elements" Spell tonight, Zhage?
Vexin Sixtoes: You look a little cold.
Another hour passes and the horses race through the darkness. The temerature seems to drop and Zhage begins to shiver uncontrollably. Taurus feels the chill more, now without his own cloak to protect him, but manages to stave off the elements for a bit longer.
Zhage teeth chattering, he just nods.
Vexin Sixtoes: I can create fire, but it wont do you much good i don't think
A few more hours pass and the cold is unrelenting. Zhage seems to be covered in frost and he can no longer feel his extermities.
Vexin Sixtoes: Well, I can't prepare a spell until we rest...
Taurus calls a halt, lifting his hand. He guides his steed up next to Zhage.
Taurus: You don't look good Zhage...
Vexin Sixtoes: And I don't think Chislev would like it if I let a non-druid use my ring
Taurus reaches over to his ice cold shoulder, bowing his head he calls for Kiri-Jolith to heal his friend. (1hp cure minor)
Zhage turns to Taurus, "I can still go on.."
Taurus: Take some water and we'll continue...
With the silver moon of Solinari shining bright, you see that Zhage's face is red and white from the frostbite. His fingers are turning a strange color.
Taurus frowns deeply.
Taurus: Vexin, scout the area and find some shelter. We've travelled enough for the night.
Vexin Sixtoes: Ok!
Zhage: Let me get it ready.. It may take a few minutes..
Vexin Sixtoes hops off the steed and Transforms into a lion in mid-air, slamming into the ground llike an earthquake
Vexin Sixtoes swiftly scouts the surrounding area
Taurus: You did well Zhage, just take your time. Rub your chest, keep the blood flowing. We'll set a camp fire.
Lion (Vexin) swiftly scouts the surrounding area
In the moonlight, you search the area for some means of shelter and find that the Plains of Dust are punishing in what little they offer. There is only the blowing snow drifts that give the most meager form of shelter.
Zhage climbs down from his mount and ignores Taurus' command for a moment.
Zhage begins to chant, hoping his shelter comes into existance.
Lion (Vexin) stalks out of the snowdrifts towards the party, the stark white lion separating from the white background like a silent 3500 lb. mist
Zhage chants as the air whips around him. You see the snow shift slightly before it begins to pack itself tightly, forming a crud structure of a small snow hut.
Taurus brow lifts.
Zhage (teeth chattering): I am hoping the bunks in there are ok.. there should be a small fireplace..
Taurus: Go in and warm up Zhage, we'll see if we can find some kindling.
Taurus: Vexin, did you see anything flamable out there?
Zhage (with a slight smile): Good find on this hut Vexin
Lion (Vexin) roars quietly and goes back into the snow to find firewood
Zhage nods towards Taurus and enters the up, trying to warm himself up.
You search through the snow and find very little. There are no trees, shrubs, or anything...
Taurus guides his steed towards the hut, then turns to it.
Taurus: Stay, girl, stay.
Taurus waits, then nods. Heads inside.
Lion (Vexin) returns to the hut empty.... pawed
Zhage (overhearing Taurus): Depending on how long we are here, they may be gone..
Taurus: Oh..
Zhage: Hopefully it will be dark in 8 hours, because that is when this shelter is going to disappear...
Taurus unshoulders his pack and looks into the empty fireplace. When Vexin returns empty... pawed (tee hee u stooge) he removes his bedroll. He begins to strip it down and put it into the firepit.
Lion (Vexin) settles down outside the door of the hut, keeping watch on the surroundings
Taurus: Zhage, drag your bedroll over here. You need to warm up.
Zhage nods and does what Taurus says.
Gilthanas: well, when the sun rises, so will the temperature. at least by a little...
Taurus crouches down infront of the fire and begins to strike his flint and steel. Setting aflame part of the bedroll as a makeshift fire. Snapping his three shortspear halves also, as kindling.
Lion (Vexin) yawns, sets his head on his paws, and wriggles a bit into the snow for concealment... it looks as though there is a large hill dominating one side of the hut
Taurus: How sturdy is this place Zhage? I noticed a grate on the door... its quite solid from first glance.
The fire's warmth seems to sting the raw skin at first but it begins to soothe all of you.
Zhage: Do you want those mounts again tomorrow Taurus?
Taurus: Aye, please Zhage.
Taurus: And I'll see what I can do about providing us a little more warmth for the journey.
Zhage: I'll get prepare them again tomorrow.
Zhage: This shelter ok?
Taurus: Aye, its solid.
Zhage: Would you like another like this as well?
Taurus: Aye, if we freeze to death there won't be nothing for the dragon armies to fight.
Zhage nods and moves a little closer to the fire.
Taurus: Vexin is on first watch with Korto, in four hours I'll take second watch and then third will be Gilthanas and Laurana.
Zhage: Remind me tomorrow to give you a tenderwig to light a fire, may reduce the time you need to start it.
Taurus: Might be good for emergencies.
The night passes, and in four hours it is morning. The fire has gone out when you awake, but the small hut has seemed to maintain the heat a little. The rest of your sleep passes and light filters through the cracks of the shudded windows.
Taurus yawns, squinting out through one of the windows.
Gilthanas enters through the door
Taurus: Anything out there?
Gilthanas (shakes his head): I think we made great time, even though we did not travel for a full day.
Taurus: Great.
Taurus grins.
Lion (Vexin) gets up and shakes off the snow
Taurus: Hopefully we can do the same today.
Gilthanas: I think it is close to noon. Do we intend to go until sun down?
Taurus moves away from the window to a quiet corner to pray.
Taurus: As long as the phantom steeds bare us.
Taurus: So fill up on rations and water, I don't want to stop.
Gilthanas nods
Zhage wakes, remainds in his bedroll and takes the correct spellbook from his pack and prepares his spells.
Taurus kneels down, lights a candle and an incense. Bows his head and goes silent for a good time.,
In time, you all pack up camp and prepare for the next leg of your journey to Tarsis.
Zhage gets out of his bedroll, folds it and puts it and his spellbook back in his pack,
Zhage: Are you all ready?
Taurus steps up to each of the party members and whispers a quiet prayer. Casting on each Endure Elements, allowing them to resist temperatures between -50 and 140'F.
Korto nods
Taurus: Aye.
Zhage: Ok..
Taurus pulls out a ration and chews on it as Zhage begins to cast the intricate spells that provide them with mounts.
Zhage chants several times like before giving everyone but Vexin a mount.
Taurus (Quietly): I miss Lightsilver...
Vexin Sixtoes: I miss Skitters :(
Zhage: Vexin, do want to ride?
Vexin Sixtoes: Please
Zhage chants a final time and produces a mount for Vexin.
Vexin Sixtoes: I can't run quite THAT fast s a Lion
Zhage smiles as he hopes up on his mount.
Taurus helps Laruana up onto her steed before he pulls himself up onto the mount, getting comfortable, then his bearings.
Zhage: Lead on Taurus.
Taurus: Away!
Taurus spurs on his mount.
The mounts take off once more, this time under the sunshine. The weather is still bitterly cold, but you manage to stave off any of the effects from the cold thanks to Taurus' spell. After about an hour at this hurried pace you see a black dot low to the ground up ahead on the road.
Taurus raises in his saddle and points ahead to the black dot, guiding the group towards it.
You slow the steeds down and approach with caution. as you near, you see that it is a person half covered in the snow. They do not stir.
Taurus leaps, heroicly, from the saddle and rushes to the figure in the snow.
As Taurus rushes forward, a black wolf raises his head from behind the body and snarls as you approach. It is clear that it is hovering over the body in a protective manner
Taurus: Be wary, this could be a tra--
Taurus slows to a halt, lifting both his hands defencively to the wolf. Shaking his head slowly he backs up a step.
Taurus: Easy boy...
Taurus: Vexin??
The wolf snarls again and the fur on the back of it's neck stands on end.
Taurus: Tell him we don't want his lunch...
Taurus backs up further.
Zhage: Come back by the mount Taurus.. Animal don't seem to like them..
Taurus nods slowly.
Taurus: There could be someone in hurt though... looks like we got here just in time before the wolf ate him... or her...
Vexin Sixtoes: I got this, boys!
Taurus squints, trying to circle around some.
Vexin Sixtoes walks slowly toward the wolf, silently trying to communicate with it
As the kender nears, the wolf snarls more and it changes its stance, ready to pounce. However, the wolf soon stands upright and it's snarling face turns placid as it cocks its head at the kender.
Taurus whispers to the others.
Vexin Sixtoes: Good boy. Now who's this?
Vexin Sixtoes takes a look at the body
Taurus (Quietly): I think he's found a new meal...
Zhage just watches on in curiousity
Vexin Sixtoes holds out a Batwing Cunchie to the Wolf
Vexin Sixtoes How big is the wolf?
the wolf licks the hand of the body gently and jumps forward toward Vexin and then back looking at the body.
Vexin Sixtoes waves the Batwing crunchie, letting the aroma drift towards the wolf
the wolf approaches cautiously and snatches the batwing crunchie from his hand. It takes it over and sets it down near the bodies face.
Taurus (Quietly): What a greedy wolf...
Vexin Sixtoes cautionsly and slowly approaches the wolf and sits down calmly next to it, stroking it's fur gently
Laurana: I think it is trying to help that person in the snow...
Taurus looks to Laurana then towards the wolf, Vexin and the figure in the snow.
Vexin Sixtoes inspects the body closer
Taurus: Vexin... if you can calm him enough, I'll take a look at the body.
the wolf squeaks softly and nudges the body as the kender strokes its thick fur
Vexin Sixtoes: Just move slowly
Taurus begins to edge forward really slowly towards the body. If the wolf lets him closer, he lowers down to inspect it. First checking for a pulse.
You check for a pulse and find one. It is not strong, but there. You see, as you roll the person over, that it is an elf, claw marks run across his body.
Taurus: He's an elf!
Vexin Sixtoes casts Lesser Vigor on the body, healing it 15 points over 15 rounds
Taurus calls over his shoulder back to Gilthanas and Laurana, assuming they know him.
Laurana gracefully dismounts and rushes over. Gilthanas dismounts and also comes to see.
Laurana: He is... Kagonesti.
Zhage stays on his mount and keeps an eye out.
Taurus watches the wounds slowly seal up, at least so they don't bleed further, from Vexin's ministrations. He inspects the wounds closely, trying to determine what kind of creature made such claw marks.
Taurus: So far from the forest?
Gilthanas: They are rare in these parts. They are... barbarians... in a way. Much like the plainsfolk of Abanasinia.
Gilthanas: yes, it is odd to find him so far from forest, and others of his kind.
Kalas emits a low groan as his wounds seal over, scarring. His eyes flutter open, looking around blindly as he stares up at blurry figures. Fingers twitch, chest rising and falling slowly.
Laurana: ....are you alright?
Vexin Sixtoes: Wakey Wakey!
Vexin Sixtoes: Nice puppy!
Vexin Sixtoes: You have a nice puppy, that is
Kalas (Kagonesti): F... fang... where?
Gilthanas: He's speaking Kagonesti...
Gilthanas: do you speak common?
Zhage continues to watch.
Vexin Sixtoes (to the wolf): Oh his name is F..Fang? Please dto meet you, F..Fang
Kalas head turns slowly, his vision returning; staring up into the face of Laurana.
Kalas: Y..yes..
Kalas replies in broken common to the question.
Laurana smiles brightly to the elf.
Vexin Sixtoes: So your name is Y..yes? Odd name
Kalas: Who.. you are?
Kalas tries to sit up, letting out a hiss between his teeth as his face turns to a scowl.
Vexin Sixtoes: Vexin Sixtoes, that's because I have six toes, wanna see? Dragonslayer Extraordinaire!
Kalas: Kalas. Arrowthorn.
Laurana: I am Laurana of the Qualinesti. This is my brother, Gilthanas. That's Taurus, the dwarf is Korto, and Zhage is over there. That's Ve---
Kalas looks groggily between the people, still only able to make out blurred images. He reaches out with tanned fingers to touch the blurr that is Laurana's face; trying to make it focus.
Kalas: Sixtoes.
Kalas repeats.
Laurana does not flinch.
Gilthanas pulls his siter back gently in a protective manner
Gilthanas: can you stand?
Vexin Sixtoes: Oooooh... someone likes your sister...
Gilthanas gives a firm look to Vexin
Zhage (muttering): Who would like his sister.
Kalas runs his fingers over Laurana's face tentatively as a blind person would getting to know someone. He blinks hard, trying to focus once more, some blood caked up around his cheek hiding tribal tattoo's marked in his flesh. When gilthanas pulls laurana back he drops his hand and searches for the fur of the wolf.
Kalas: I.. think so...
Vexin Sixtoes returns the firm look, merrily mocking Gilthanas
Vexin Sixtoes takes his hand and places it on the wolf's head
Gilthanas: What are you doing out here?
Vexin Sixtoes: Can you say puppy? p-u-p-p-y...
Kalas fingers find the dark rugged fur of the wolf, twisting and clenching at it. Using the wolf to help push himself into a sitting possition. Though his grip is rough and strong, the creature seems use to it and actually tries to help him up.
Kalas: Dragons.
Vexin Sixtoes: No, like this... puuuuppy
Kalas: Killed them all.
Kalas looks at the blur that is Vexin confused.
Kalas: Puuuupy.
Kalas tilts his head.
Vexin Sixtoes: Dragons do not have fur and do not look like puppies
Vexin Sixtoes points at the wolf
Vexin Sixtoes: Puppy
Kalas squints at his finger.
Kalas: Kender.
Kalas frowns.
Vexin Sixtoes: Hey! he can identify me, but not his puppy
Gilthanas: Zhage, can you make another mount?
Vexin Sixtoes: I think he has a long-term memory problem
Zhage nods.
Vexin Sixtoes: He can have my mount if necessary.
Gilthanas: Kalas, can you ride?
Zhage: Does he know how to ride?
Kalas feebly begins to try to stand, leaning his weight on the wolf to his side. The creature quite bulky, obviously well fed, and stronger; a hunter. Much like her protecter.
Kalas: Yes.
Gilthanas: Taurus, can you do anything else for him?
Taurus remains quite for the most part, surveying the wounds. He nods to Gilthanas, stepping closer to the Kagonesti; showing open hands.
Zhage: Is the wolf able to ride with him?
Taurus: I'm just going to check your wounds...
Kalas pulls back from Taurus, baring his teeth at him.
Vexin Sixtoes: The wolf can go as fast as me in Lion form
Laurana: Easy, Kalas. Taurus will help you... help you.
Zhage: If he does ride, I think the wolf would want to stay with him, or vice versa
Kalas looks towards Laurana who seems to be taking more shape than random colours and shadows. He nods slowly, leveling his eyes on the approaching figure that is this 'Taurus' one.
Taurus smiles to Laurana and places his hand on the side of Kalas where the deeper of his wounds are. Bowing his head and closing his eyes he says a prayer to the gods, hoping to seal up the deep claw marks that litter his body.
Kalas pose changes quite dramatically from before. As his wounds seal up leaving barely a scar he straightens, standing near 5
Kalas pose changes quite dramatically from before. As his wounds seal up leaving barely a scar he straightens, standing near 5'10'' tall. Somewhat imposing, for an elf, his left arm covered in tribal tattoo's as his cheek. His hair red, dreaded, held together by bands of cord with various twigs and feathers sticking out.
Taurus: We should keep moving...
Laurana: Kalas, can fang keep up? We are riding to Tarsis. You should come with us. It's the safest thing for you right now.
Taurus steps back, nodding some. Not using all his healing on this stranger, he glances around thoughtfully wondering how he got so far out into the middle of no where; as poorly equipped for winter as Zhage.
Kalas: Fang is fast.
Vexin Sixtoes: When we get to Tarsis, you might want to bathe... and wash your hair
Kalas nods slowly, looking down to fang and scratching behind her ear. She licks his hand once but continues to watch these tall bi-ped warily; though her glare somewhat softens when it passes over Vexin.
Kalas: Kender.
Kalas levels his eyes on the short creature.
Vexin Sixtoes: Yes, we've established that
Kalas nods slowly, looking at each a little more clearly; the haze on his mind dissipating.
Zhage: Well, I guess we'll see how fast she is.
Korto: Alright, lads. Lets mount up and push forward.
Vexin Sixtoes whistles and mouonts his steed again, swiftly scouting ahead
Zhage hops down from his mount and begins to chant finishing pointing at the new comer.
Zhage then hops back up and gets ready to ride.
Kalas shoots his gaze towards Korto, tilting his head curiously. Never seen a dwarf before, perhaps. Seeing the horse appear out of thin air he pokes at it, frowning, cautiously mounts it.
Taurus swings up onto his mount with more ease than someone in full plate should be able to.
Gilthanas (quietly): oh, brother...
Zhage: It will be fine Kalas.. just hold on tight...
Kalas barks out a command in his strange tongue to the wolf; almost aggressive. Fang paws at the ground, ready to follow.
Kalas looks to Zhage and nods, grips the phantom steed tightly and kicks his heels in.
Kalas: Hyar!
Taurus gives Gilthanas a look.
Zhage follows the newcommer
Taurus (Quietly): Are they all like this...?
Gilthanas (quietly): They are sheltered, yes. I have not had much experience with their kind, so I can't say for certain. They are not quite as worldly as most people.
The mounts spur off through the blowing snow. Fang quickly falls behind but she continues to follow the tracks of the horses.
Laurana: m/ (to Kalas) Will she be able to find us?
Laurana (to Kalas): Will she be able to find us?
Kalas looks back into the distance at Fang, then towards Laurana. He smiles and nods, tapping his nose.
Kalas: Fang is good hunter.
Kalas: Like me.
Vexin Sixtoes: Kender is good Dragonslayer
A couple of more hours pass when you see off in the distance a small walled settlement. Thick smoke wafts from the chimneys.
Kalas extends two fingers and runs them over his left eye, somthing symbolic perhaps.
Gilthanas: that must be Hopeful...
Taurus: Aye.. a welcome sight, to be sure.
Zhage: Hopefully the locals will be nice..
Taurus adjusts some in his position on the back of the phantom steed. pulling his mount in to a trot, he looks between the group.
Taurus: Try to keep a low profile, don't advertise the fact we're not from around here.
Korto (to Zhage): aye.
Vexin Sixtoes: That's not Hopeful, it's Tarsis
Vexin Sixtoes: Hopeful is a kender settlement near Hylo
Taurus looks at Vexin confused.
Vexin Sixtoes: Just clearing things up for Gilthanas
Zhage: I think the mounts scream non-locals Taurus..
Gilthanas: I'm sure the one in Hylo is HopeLESS...
Gilthanas smiles at the kender
Kalas shivers a little, sitting high in the saddle as he lets the wind wash over his body. Closing his eyes, tilting his head skyward and drawing in a slow breath from the air as though scenting the wind.
Taurus: Aye, you make a good point.
Taurus: We'll walk from here on in.
Vexin Sixtoes: Hmm... no, I'm sure it's Hopeful
Gilthanas dismounts and follows Taurus
Zhage dismounts as well.
Zhage: Ok, everyone off..
Taurus slips from his steed, giving it a slap across the rump to scare it away; not sure whether that will work at all being that its a phantom creation.
Kalas slips off his mount into a crouch, rises fluidly, peers around at the horizon expectantly; eye to the sky.
Zhage points at his mount as well as Kalas', Taurus', and Gilth and seperates his arms making them disappear.
Laurana and Korto also dismount
Laurana: Lets go then...
Taurus pulls his cloak around him and begins to make his way towards the settlement.
Zhage does the same for their mounts.
Taurus: When we get there, we need to find warm acomodation. Then, we pick up some weather gear and we'll bunk down for the night. Perhaps pick up some fresh... flesh... horses...
Taurus smiles.
Kalas turns north, letting out a short whistle. Waiting.
Zhage: Although we were making good time..
The road slopes gently upward toward the gates of the walled town. As you near, you see someone atop the wall move into a wooden tower. Seconds later, a loud clamouring of a bell rings across the plains and through the settlement.
Taurus: Indeed, but there might be more activity on the roads between here and Tarsis.
Taurus: ... so much for low profile.
Taurus jaw shifts.
Laurana looks at Taurus with concern
Zhage nods.
Kalas trudges through the snow about 10ft behind the rest of the party, his posture learnt forward like a wolf on the hunt following the tracks of his prey. Occasionally his eyes dart across the horizon. When the bells sound he seems more alert.
Taurus: Don't be concerned, I'll explain everything.
Taurus smiles to them all confidently and strides on up towards a recognisable entrance in the wall.
You approach closer even still, and the bell continues to ring out. When you get within 30 feet of the gate the bell ends and you hear a voice shout from the tower.
guardsman: Hold there!
Taurus comes to a halt, shielding his eyes as he peers up towards the gaurdsman.
Taurus: Hail there friend!
guardsman: Who goes there?!
Taurus: We are but weary travellars seeking a warm bed and a hot meal!
guardsman: You'll find none of that here! Move along!
Taurus: Please Sir! We are in need of replacement clothes. You would turn us away?!
Vexin Sixtoes: A city with no Inn?
guardsman: The Inns full!
Taurus: We will stay in the stables, if we must! We have gold and will be gone by sunrise!
Taurus lifts a pouch, jingles it.
The figure on the wall disappears from sight.
Kalas subtly begins to string his longbow.
A few minutes pass and you see a small door near the main gate open and a grizzled old man pokes his head out.
Taurus waves
guardsman: you, come here.
guardsman points to Taurus
Taurus jogs over to the guardsman, stopping a short distance from him. Standing at attention, he studies the man carefully for the moment.
Taurus: Hail friend, I am Taurus Regulus; Knight of Solamnia.
The guard is very old, your guessing he is in his sixties. It is clear that he is incapable of stopping anyone from entering if they really wanted to.
guardsman: What, are ye a fool!?
guardsman scowls at Taurus
Taurus frowns confused.
Taurus: Whatever do you mean?
guardsman: Going around preaching your a Knight of Solamnia. Bound to git yourself killed in these parts. That is, if the weather don't kill ya first.
guardsman glances over the improperly clothed knight.
Kalas subtly draws an arrow from his quiver, running his tungue over the feathered shaft.
Taurus frowns and then looks over hsi shoulder at his companions, then back to the guardsman. Smiling apologetically.
Taurus: Forgive me, m'lord. The weather has affected my good sense.
guardsman: I'm no lord, ya damn fool!
Taurus: We have been out in it for several days, I'm afraid my companions are faired even worse than I. Just a nights of rest would do a world of difference.
guardsman: I ain't to let anyone in these walls...
guardsman: how much gold ya got?
Taurus: Near... two hundred...
guardsman His eyes light up and grow wide.
guardsman: Let's see it.
Taurus hands him the pouch, containing the mentioned amount of gold.
guardsman looks inside and smiles a toothless grin
Kalas licks his thumb, lifts it to the breeze. Squints, looks across the distance between him and the old grizzled guard.
Taurus: We do need some of it to purchase new clothes and to let a room.
guardsman: ye give me the whole bag and you can come sleep in the stables. I'll bring you and your friends warmer clothes to.
Taurus: Whatever is left over I would be happy to donate to the defence of this fair place.
Taurus smiles, offers him his metal clad hand.
Taurus: Deal.
Taurus turns and becons his companions over.
guardsman Shakes the knights hand with ethusiasum.
Taurus: I didn't quite catch your name, friend?
guardsman: ye got to cover up those knightly emblems, though, and ye can't be seen. You'll get warm when they roast you if yer seen!
Kalas looks somewhat dissapointed as he slides the arrow back into its quiver and shoulders his bow.
guardsman: name's Fergus
Taurus: I see, Fergus.
Taurus: I've never travelled to this region before, so I was unaware. Thank you for the tip. If you don't tell, we won't.
Taurus winks, pulls his cloak tighter around him to loosely hide the tabard and symbols that adorn his armor.
guardsman: nods. Follow me, and keep low!
Taurus steps in toe behind Fergus, beconing his companions to follow.
Zhage follows Taurus.
Fergus ushurs the party through the door and closes it tight. He then locks an amazing amount of locks attached to the door. He looks around and leads you through the side streets and alleys.
Vexin Sixtoes follows merrily
The settlement is not large, and it takes just over a minute and you are brought to the stables.
Fergus signals for you to wait here in the alley before he crosses the street to the stables
Taurus tries his best to be as quiet as possible, tip-toeing through the alley's and streets. Ofcourse, this doesn't seem to dampen the heavy clanking of his armor indicating some possible invasion much. Looking around the stables he slips in through the door, opening it for the others.
Fergus signals the all clear and waves you across
Taurus: If you'd be so kind as to bring a pot of hot stew and fresh water my friend, there might be something special in it for you.
Fergus (frowns): I thought you said this was all you got?
Kalas moves with all the grace and finesse of a hunter through the streets. Occasionally peeking in through windows as they pass.
Taurus: Aye, all -I- had.
Taurus gestures to his companions.
Fergus: oh, i see!
Taurus smiles.
Fergus face crunches up into a million wrinkles as he giggles in delight.
Zhage (quietly in Kender): Make sure to borrow Taurus' money pouch back Vexin.
Taurus smiles.
Fergus scurries out the door and clothes it behind him.
Taurus shakes his head slowly as he turns back to hsi companions, looking somewhat apologetically at Gilthanas and Laurana; perhaps a little ashamed of his own race's greed.
Taurus: Vexin... have you got any gems squirrelled away in one of your many pockets for when he gets back?
Hours pass and eventually Fergus returns with a handful of furs. He leaves again and comes back with a pot of stew.
Taurus: I would like to keep him happy.
Vexin Sixtoes tosses Taurus a 50gp gem
Kalas takes the stew from Fergus and smiles thankfully, tossing him the gem.
Taurus takes the stew from Fergus and smiles thankfully, tossing him the gem.
Taurus: Thank you friend.
Fergus examines the gem closely. He drops it in his pocket.
Taurus: You are indeed a kind and generous heart.
Fergus: I'll be back by morn. You can't leave the stables until I return. And when I return, you have to go.
Taurus nods.
Taurus: We understand. Thank you again.
Vexin Sixtoes mutters about the guard being impolite after he's long gone
Zhage grabs some stew and relaxes a little.
Zhage: Since we are going to be in and out early tomorrow, do you want the phantom mounts?
Korto: well, it took us two days of half travel to get to Hopeful. With the mounts, we can reach Tarsis by the end of the day.
Zhage: That is what I was thinking.. I think we don't have to worry about the populace worring about us..
Taurus cups the bowl of stew and nods, swallowing a mouthful of the hot liquid. The most expensive meal he has ever had, but, as far as he is concerned worth every gold piece.
Taurus: Aye, the quicker we move the better.
Taurus: They don't have a high opinion of Solomniac's here...
Taurus muses to himself.
Gilthanas: I wonder if it is like that in Tarsis?
Kalas forgoes the use of a spoon and eats the stew from the bowel, picking out most of the meat and wolfing it down. He moves to a high window of the barn and looks out it into the night; concern on his face.
Taurus: It likely will be so, we'll be best to keep quiet until we have a good lay of the area.
Taurus: Last thing I want to do is try and outrun a lynch mob; I don't move terribly fast in this armor.
Taurus lets out a short laugh.
The night passes uneventfully. The stables are not the warmest, or most comfortable but it is better than the frozen tundra outside. You wake to the sound of the stable doors opening. You see that it is still dark outside and Fergus approaches, a lantern turned low hangs in his hand.
Fergus: Hey, time to go!
Vexin Sixtoes: 5 more minutes mom!
Taurus blinks awake, peering around as he stands and begins pulling his pack on; armor secured to it.
Fergus: the sun'll be up within a half hour.
Fergus: kicks the kender firmly
Fergus kicks the kender firmly
Fergus: git up!
Vexin Sixtoes: Ow! Hey no need to be rude!
Taurus frowns and steps up to Fergus, leveling his eyes on him.
Zhage gets up and stows his gear, getting ready to move.
Fergus glances at Taurus and scurries off toward the door
Taurus shakes his head, helps Vexin to his feet.
Taurus: Lets move out.
Zhage (quietly): As soon as we leave, I need to memorize some spells..
Kalas watches Gilthanas and Laurana closely as they get ready, already having his pack secured over a shoulder. He tilts his head a little, as though curious, studying an odd animal he's never seen before.
Taurus nods to Zhage.
Fergus leads you back to the gate. He opens the door beside the gate and waves you through.
Taurus (Quietly): We can take a short break out of sight of the city.
Taurus moves through the gate, turning to wait for the others to exit.
Fergus: Be safe, knight.
Taurus: Again, thank you Fergus. Dispite your greed, you did a noble thing this day and it will not be forgotten.
Fergus emphisizes the "T" on the end before he slams the door closed, you hear the sound of locks clicking shut.
Taurus shakes his head a little, looking at the others.
Taurus: Lets head out.
Kalas paces about the group in a small circle, nostrils flaring, eyeing the grounds. After a minute or so he arches his back and lets out a very loud wolfish howl; pausing to hear it echo into the night.
Kalas waits a few moments, and far off in the distance the howl is returned.
Kalas smiles, turns back to the party, his worry faiding from his face.
Vexin Sixtoes: I think he should have named himself Canine, not Kalas...
Taurus watches Kalas and absently, despite himself, nods in agreeance with Vexin. Without further thought he begins to move away from the city walls.
Gilthanas: Lets push onward. If we leave now, with the mounts, we can reach Tarsis before night fall.
Taurus: Lets put some distance between us and this place before we break for prayer and preperation.
Zhage: Whenever we get to a pausing point, I need to get my spells.
You travel a ways away and the sun peaks up over the horizon, casting long shadows across the gleaming, crusted snow.
Taurus: Here is a good as place as any.
In the distance, Hopeful can also be seen. You also see near the settlement, a black dot heading your way.
Taurus: Take water and rations, secure your packs. We move out in an hour.
Zhage takes out his spell book, and begins his preparations.
Taurus settles off to the side quietly, placing his cloak on the snow and kneeling on it. Lighting a candle and an incense, he bows his head in prayer. Lips moving in fast silent words.
Vexin Sixtoes stands on his head against a tree and closes his eyes, communing with nature for an hour
Kalas reaches behind him, flips out a sharp deadly looking curved blade; a kukri. Then, a whetstone. Spitting on it, he begins to run the stone along the blades length in short quick strikes.
Some time passes, and the black dot becomes closer. You soon realize that it is Fang, trotting along towards you across the snow.
The hour passes and spells are remembered and granted from the gods.
Zhage: How heavy is Fang?
Zhage: Less than 80 pounds?
Kalas watches as the black dot turns to a wolf, forming a wide grin on his face. He sheaths his weapon and stone, looking to Zhage as he leans down and places some pieces of meat on the snow for Fang.
Kalas looks between Zhage, then Fang, then Zhage. He shrugs.
Zhage shrugs and then proceeds to casts the spells for all 7 riders.
The horses appear in a smokey haze. Soon the riders mount and the horses are spured on once more towards Tarsis.
Kalas flings himself up onto the horse and keeps to the rear of the pack, scanning the horizon.
Taurus rides at the forfront of the group after casting Endure Elements on all of them.
The day passes with uneventful. The plains horizon stretches on with nothing so much as a tree to be seen. Near the end of the day, you see off in the distance, a large walled city with a haze of smoke rising from the many chimineys
Taurus slips from the phantom steed with a thud, metal plate clanking as it settles on his aching back. Rubbing his side a bit he takes a slug from his waterskin. Taking a cursery glance over his companions he looks off into the distance towards the city.
Taurus: Here we are.
Kalas scans the horizon, letting out a short whistle before slipping from his horse.
All but Taurus notice that even from this distance, the harbor is covered in white. Whether it is dry or just frozen is too hard to tell from this point.
Zhage: I don't think many ships are leaving..
Taurus grins hopefully then looks at Zhage oddly.
Taurus: What do you mean?
Taurus squints into the distance.
Zhage: I can't really tell, but, the harbor looks really dry or frozen over..
Vexin Sixtoes: Ships need water. Water is not white
Taurus frowns.
Taurus: The harbour is frozen...
Taurus: Thats not good.
Korto: Lets get a closer look...
Taurus: Aye, no use standing out here.
As you approach closer on foot, you notice the following:
The Lordcity is fortified with a 20-foot high wall which surrounds it's residents on three sides. Towers, 50 feet in height are built into the walls, overlooking the three gates in the north, south, and east, as well as other points along the citys boundary. The towers and walls all show signs of major disrepair.
The harbor, once the sight of glistening blue waters of the Turbidus Ocean which sailed whit-winged ships carrying goods in and out of the city is now nothing but a dry seabed. No wall protects the west side of Tarsis where the ocean once was except for a 5 foot high wall out at where the breakwater once stood. This wall is incomplete, stretching across only about halfway of the western side of the city. The wall does not look like there has been any attempt to complete it for hundreds of years. While ships may no longer be able to sail away, their remnants litter the section of the city known as Lower City.
Taurus eyes widen.
Gilthanas frows
Taurus: By the gods.. what happened here...
Zhage: Wow...
Korto Looks at his map
Korto: well, this map is before the cataclysim... maybe things changed when it happened.
Taurus surveys the horizon shaking his head in dissapointment, taking a few steps towards the city and stopping. Trying to not let the despair fall on his face.
Kalas laughs.
Gilthanas: Lets go and find some rooms. We can figure out what to do then.
Gilthanas walks off down the road toward the gate
Zhage: He's got a point...
Zhage follows the Elf.
Vexin Sixtoes: Ale!
Laurana and Korto follow
Taurus nods slowly, still somewhat bewildered. He steps in behind the Elves and Zhage.
Kalas glances around, scuffs at the snow a bit and subtly drops a ration into it. Looking up he sees the party some 60 to 70 feet ahead he jogs to catch up; setting in shortly behind them.
You approach the gate and you see an armed guard pacing the entrance. Another two guards warm their hands at a metal barrel that has a fire blazing within it. The gate sits open and few people are seen entering. As you get closer all three guards turn their attention towards you.
Taurus pulls his cloak around him, covering up his tabard and Knightly sigils. Nodding to the guards as they approach, not intending to engage them in conversation but walk straight past through the entrance just as the others do.
The three look at the group with suspicion but they do not stop you from entering.
Taurus: Not exactly a bastion of defence...
Taurus comments quietly as they pass.
Inside, the streets, buildings, and plazas are similarly showing a lack of attention and proper maintenance. Rubble is piled along the side streets, alleys are blocked off by broken wagons and carts, and vegetation has taken hold of some of the city. Iin the Upper Citys once-magnificent residential area, (The Lower city is the poorer area of the city and is found along the docks and empty seabed) there are places where trees have sprouted through the cobblestones, and whole avenues are overgrown with weeds.
Zhage (quietly): Big change from Hopeful...
Vexin Sixtoes: This is more Hopeful than Hopeful... Hopefully
Vexin Sixtoes grins, quite proud of himself
All the vegetation is dead and covered with snow
Zhage just shakes his head.
Taurus walks down the street and the first oppertunity he gets he pulls aside a local to ask them where an Inn or Tavern might be that travellars can rest for the night.
The local eyes Taurus and the other's suspicously but points down the street. He says that an inn called the Red Dragon is not far from here.
Vexin Sixtoes: Ooh... Red Dragon!
You make your way down the strteet and see of fin the distance, a large, three-story building made of stone and wood. A sign hangs in the wind with a worn and weathered painting of a red dragon on it.
Zhage: You should feel at home here Vexin, being the dragon slayer that you are..
Taurus: Red.. Dragon..?
Taurus frowns, thinking thats a little bad taste for an Inn name.
Vexin Sixtoes: Of couorse!
Zhage: It could be worse...
Taurus peers up at the painting before he takes in a breath, readies himself, and pushes the door open and enters. Peering around.
Vexin Sixtoes: I slayed an Inn name!
Vexin Sixtoes: Vexin Innslayer...
You enter into a spacious common room. Tables are scattered about and there are a few patrons here eating their supper. You see the bar keeper cleaning up behind his counter. Some wooden stairs lead off to the second story.
Kalas slips in, steps to the side with his back to the wall and eyes the patrons.
Vexin Sixtoes: This tavern has giant dust mites!
Kalas and Vexin both notice that as you enter, three cloaked figures sit at a table in the cornor. The seem to eye your group as you enter, and they seem to pay close attention to Taurus.
Vexin Sixtoes promptly walks up to the 3 figures and introduces himself
Kalas nudges Gilthanas with his elbow as he steps up to him, eyes dart towards the three figures to subtly point them out; only to see Vexin walk straight up to them.
Vexin Sixtoes: Hullo! I'm Vexin Sixtoes, Dragonslayer Extraordinaire! I even slew the name of this Inn!
Taurus notices nothing and walks straight towards the bar, looking for the tender.
Taurus: I'd like rooms for 7, thanks.
Gilthanas looks, and sees Vexin approach.
Zhage: That probably isn't good...
as the kender approaches, one of the figures suddenly makes a grab for him, trying to cover his mouth in the process.
Zhage: Taurus!
Taurus blinks and looks over, frowning. He turns on his heel and stalks in that direction.
Taurus: Unhand him!
Kalas very subtly slips away from the rest of the group, circling the figures at the table to approach slowly from their right flank; slender nimble fingers finding the hilts of his kukri's.
The figure snatches the kender up with great speed, covering his mouth. The cloaked figure rushes off up the stairs while the two other figures rise to follow.
the other patrons in the inn turn to see what the comotion is all about.
Taurus grips the pommel of his sword, though not drawing it yet, he rushes for the stairs and Vexin.
Vexin Sixtoes transforms into a Constrictor snake in a mere moment
You chase them up the stairs where the stand near the end of the hall. The one who had Vexin sets him down and says something you can't quite here to him
Vexin Sixtoes slithers towards Taurus
Vexin Sixtoes transforms back into a Kender, behind Taurus, eyeing the man suspiciously
Taurus steps down the corridor slowly, Kender in tow, eyeing the robed figure.
Taurus: Show yourself, now.
Vexin Sixtoes: I should have burned is moustache off! Don't grab me like that!
cloaked figure (harshly): keep your voice down!
Vexin Sixtoes wags his finger at the red-haired man
Taurus eyes narrow, though voice lowers. Stopping several feet from them.
Taurus (Quietly): Explain yourselves with haste lest I smite you where you stand.
the three remove their hoods. You see three men, all with the large moustaches of the Solamnic knights.
Vexin Sixtoes: Hey! Knights! just like Taurus!
Taurus blinks and almost falls over, taking a step back and letting go of the pommel of his longsword. He inclines his head to the three men, clenching a fist he taps his chestplate with it in greetings.
Taurus: My apologies brothers, the skull daggery through me off.
Taurus recognizes them. One has red hair and is rather tall. his name is Aran Tallbow. The other is a shorter man than Aran with brown hair named Brian Donnor. The third knight he knows well, as it is Derek Crownguard.
Derek Crownguard: Believe me, Taurus Regulas, this is not my idea... skulking about like common thieves.
Derek Crownguard glowers at Aran
Taurus inclines his head, gesturing to hsi companions it is safe.
Taurus (Quietly): Lets retreat to the confines of a room for this conversation.
Vexin Sixtoes: Oh don't worry, if they call you a theif, they just don't understand that you just found something that someone else left behind
Brian Donner: Sorry about startling you. We do not wish attention to be brought to us, and the kender, being as they are, could have spoiled that.
Zhage: You prefer borrowed..
Vexin Sixtoes: Yes! borrowed!
Vexin Sixtoes: I didn't spoil anything!
Taurus: That.. I can understand.
Taurus eyes Vexin.
Derek Crownguard: come with us. We have our own room.
Kalas lingers in the background, blades still drawn but hidden somewhat at his sides. Simply observing, lingering, should the need arise to strike.
Aran Tallbow: What are you doing here in Tarsis, my friend?
Taurus: Please, lead the way.
Aran Tallbow claspes his hand on Taurus' back
Taurus: It is a long story Aran.
Taurus smiles to the man.
Taurus: I am sure you are aware of the atrocities that has befallen abasinia?
You are lead to a room that Derek opens. You enter and find a large room. Inside are three more knights, and also sitting on a bed in the cornor is a gully dwarf. The dwarf looks almost more like a prisoner than a companion.
Aran Tallbow: Abanasinia is not the only place, my friend. Solomnia is on the verge of war with the dragonarmies and here in Tarsis, the draconians walk openly in the streets.
Taurus enters the room, nodding to each knight respectfully in turn as he does. Glancing back at his companions to make sure everyone is through before removing his pack and setting it on the ground; visably relaxing. A smile brimming on his mouth completely disolving any earlier despair.
Taurus: Surely you jest!
Poog Rat-charm: Hey! you talls got rats? Me hungry
Derek Crownguard: quiet, gully dwarf.
Taurus cuts a look in the direction of the Gully Dwarf, then towards Derek curiously.
Poog Rat-charm sticks his tongue out at the knight
Taurus: A new Squire? M'Lord?
Taurus tries to hide the smirk.
Poog Rat-charm: Me no squire! No serve ugly hair-face!
Derek Crownguard steps up to Taurus.
Taurus straightens some, to attention, instinctively.
Derek Crownguard: just because we are leagues away from Solamnia does not mean that I am no longer your superior. Or has you choice of company clouded you sense of respect?
Derek Crownguard gestures towards Vexin.
Poog Rat-charm points to Derek
Poog Rat-charm: He MEany!
Vexin Sixtoes: It's not nice to point!
Vexin Sixtoes: Taurus, don't knight have to have manners?
Taurus: Please, forgive me M'Lord. You are correct, I have been too far from the fatherland and there is no excuse.
Zhage goes and sits in a corner, waiting for the conversation to involve him.
Taurus shoots Vexin a look.
Derek Crownguard: Kender, be silent or I shall cast you out with the vermin.
Vexin Sixtoes: Ha! good luck with that!
Vexin Sixtoes sticks his tongue out at the knight, but quiets down out of respect for Taurus
Zhage: We've been trying to do that since we met him..
Zhage: Only time it happens is when he becomes an animal.
Taurus: Excuse my companion's M'Lord Crownguard. Whilst he is short in stature, and manners, he is tall in bravery and skill.
Vexin Sixtoes gasps and looks at Zhage
Vexin Sixtoes: Baldy...
Zhage: Not that we mind too much..
Poog Rat-charm whines
Poog Rat-charm: ME HUNGRY!
Derek Crownguard: Be quiet, all of you!
Derek Crownguard moustache quivers in anger
Poog Rat-charm waves a misshapen, disgusting dead rat at the Kender
Taurus cringes inwardly, knowing the extent of Crownguard's rage.
Poog Rat-charm: you get me rat...
Vexin Sixtoes: Ew! You eat rats?!?!
Aran Tallbow (chnges the subject): what are you doing here in Tarsis?
Poog Rat-charm: Get me rat, tiny elf-boy
Taurus: As you know Abanasinia has been invaded by the dragon armies. They've all but wiped out what little resistance the locals could afford.
Vexin Sixtoes cocks his head at the little creature, then slips away
Taurus: Barely a hundred score survived and are hole up in Thorbadin as refugee's. We came south in hopes of an escape to more furtile lands out of the reach of their claws.
Poog Rat-charm pets his dead rat... in a quite disturbingly loving manner
Taurus: We had hoped to prequire a ship.
Brian Donner: That won't be possible, as I'm sure you noticed.
Taurus: Indeed. We had noticed.
Aran Tallbow: What do you intend to do?
Taurus: If I might ask, what are you doing here in Tarsis?
both Aran and Brian look to Derek.
Taurus: It might be neccasary to travel further south, to Donatta. Try our luck there. Many lives depend on our success.
Derek Crownguard: We are on a quest for Solomnia. We seek information on an item called a dragon orb. We have reason to believe that it is located in a library somewhere within this city.
Taurus: A dragon orb? What does this item do?
Derek Crownguard: We do not know, only that it is a powerful artifact. A weapon that can be used against the dragonarmies.
Taurus: Such as the Dragon Lances?
Derek Crownguard: yes...
Taurus nods slowly.
Taurus: How goes your quest for the orb? Perhaps we might be of some assistance.
Taurus: Some of my companions have more subtle methods of aquisition.
Derek Crownguard: The people you serve shall not be safe until the dragonarmies are defeated. I assure you that you will be of assistance, Taurus Regulus.
Taurus looks towards Vexin, who co-incidentally, is no longer there. So, he settles for Zhage. Nodding to the mage in gesture before turning his attention back to Derek.
Zhage simply nods and goes back to listening.
Taurus: M'Lord Crownguard, I have sworn an Oath to these people that they will be delivered to safety.
Taurus: If your goals and theirs intercede then I will do everything in my power to assist you.
Poog Rat-charm slips back into the room with a very large dead rat... crosses the room, then hands it to the Aghar.
Vexin Sixtoes: Hey, what's up? I'm moving to Oxnard for a new job. We should get together sometime and see if we click!
Vexin Sixtoes slips back into the room with a very large dead rat... crosses the room, then hands it to the Aghar.
Derek Crownguard: They do! I intend to find this dragon orb and defeat the dragonarmies. By order of the Solomnic knights, you are charged to help us.
Poog Rat-charm: takes the rat, and begins chewing at the uncooked carcass.
Poog Rat-charm takes the rat, and begins chewing at the uncooked carcass.
Vexin Sixtoes seems to come to his senses with the snap of his head
Vexin Sixtoes: EW!
Zhage: Well, that's kind of disgusting..
Poog Rat-charm slurps and chomps on the freshly deceased rat
Poog Rat-charm gulps down the last of it, slurps the tail down, then belches loudly
