GM: last session, you exit the Ruby tower, the hammer of Kharas in your hands. You make your way out into the court yard and you notice a large shadow cast over you. There on the tower's cap perches Ember, the red dragon.
Taurus murmers out of the corner of his mouth to Zhage behind him, staying deathly still as he had read dragon's vision is based on sight and if you do not move they cannot see you.,
Taurus (Whisper): Zhage.. psst... how are you doing on spells?
Zhage (whispered back): I think I'm doing ok.
Ember (In a Hissing Roar): So Old One, you consort with my enemies! More, you hide behind their puny form! Step aside; they are mine! No man holds me back now!
Kharas smiles.
Kharas: Begone, child! Do not tempt my anger. Do you desire death so?
Ember's lips curl in a cruel snarl.
Ember: No, Old One! It is you who tempt fate! I know the Oath; the power of your word binds you! Not even the terror of the dragonlance could bind one so well. Come, Evenstar, show these puny mortals what company they keep or has the Council stripped you of your pride, too?
The dwarf's face clouds with anger; his form swells, taking on a golden hue, stretching, and growing until a golden dragon stands in the dwarf's place. Ember laughs with derision.
Evenstar, the gold dragon, turns to you.
Ember (Bellows): Prepare to die!
Ember takes to the air.
Vexin Sixtoes: Ooh.... Hullo
Taurus (Quietly): We need protection from fire.
Vexin Sixtoes: I have myself covered... a cold aura will be exciting to try out!
Zhage takes a moment and casts mage armor upon himself.
Vexin Sixtoes shifts into Leopard form and casts Bite of the Wereboar, sharing it with Skitters
Taurus tries his very best to chant the beginnings of a spell that will protect several of his companions against the fear of such an impressive beast. (Remove Fear on Taurus, Zhage, Arman Kharas +4 to saves vs fear)
Taurus (Quietly): Psst.. Zhage, can you protect yourself from fire?
Vexin Sixtoes casts Owl's Wisdom on himself, sharing it with Skitters
Zhage shakes his head negativily.
Taurus (Whisper): Spread out...
Taurus touches Zhage on the shoulder, chanting quietly to the gods to protect his friend from the elements. (Resist fire 10) Slowling edging away from the group.
Zhage casts another spell and begins to look more agile. (Cat's Grace +4 to Dex for 8 minutes)
Tierwester Rushes forward to the base of the tower. He leaps forward, clings to the wall and begins to accend to the tower's cap.
Gilthanas Draws his bow and begins to let loose a volley of arrows at Ember
Taurus curls his fingers around the hilt of his longsword, tightening his grip on his shield as he braces himself in antipation of the inpending doom high up. Eyes moving between Ember and the gold dragon; anxious to see what part it will play.
The arrows soar through the air and strike the flank of the dragon but the harmlessly bounce off. it seems as though Ember did not even realize the attack was made.
Zhage
Leopard (Vexin) paws the ground anxiously, preparing and waiting for the right time to pounce
Zhage peaks out to the side of Evenstar, chanting and then finishes while pointing at ember.
The bolt of lightning crackles through the air. The smell of sulpher fills your nostrils as it dances across the dragon's body.
Zhage darts back behind the golden dragon.
Ember lips curl as he takes note of Zhage's position.
Vexin Sixtoes
Leopard (Vexin) casts Corona of Cold on himself, passing it to Skitters with a nuzzle
Korto Grips his warhammer and waits with anticipation for whats to come
Arman runs closer to the edge of the courtyard, glancing skyward as his legs pump hard
Taurus
Taurus taps the visor of his helm down over his face, drawing his longsword with a long metalic chime. Holding it high above his head, tip pointed at the heart of Ember, he calls out a challenge to the beast. "ACITAS!" (Granting all within 40ft +2 to all saves)
Taurus: ACITAS!
Ember's massive wings fold out to their full span. they flap like giant leathery cloaks as the enormous body of the dragon lifts off the tower's cap. He surveys the courtyard before settling his gaze upon Vexin and Skitters.
Taurus eyes go heavenward, steeling himself against the fear that threatens to tear away his focus
Zhage watches the dragon closely, fighting the fear of the dragon.
Gouts of burning hot flame spew from Ember's gapping jaws, completely engulfing the two animals
When the smoke clears, the flagstones of the courtyard are melted. The resilient kender looks hurt, but not as bad as the dire weasel, skitters, who's fur is nearly completely burned off. Ember gives a delightfull look before he sets his sights on his next target.
Taurus eyes widen, turning from the blast as he lifts his shield high whilst heat washes over him.
Taurus: Attack!!!
Tierwester climbs slightly hire before firing off a blast of his magical, dark energies.
The blue flame soars past the huge dragon as Tierwester nearly looses his grip on the tower. he curses himself for his poor attack
Gilthanas lowers his bow and raises his free hand toward the dragon. He chants in a low voice as two glowing darts streak through the air at the dragon.
The burst into the dragon but seem to have little to no effect.
Zhage
Zhage chants a second time and points towards Ember as a small beats flies from his finger.
The flames burst around the dragon and when the flames disapaite, Ember seems to snear in a pleasent grin.
Vexin Sixtoes
Zhage shakes his head as a sudden rememberance dances into his head.
Evenstar: Despite your great skills. flames will not harm him!
Skitters casts Wreath of Flames on himself and Skitters
Taurus looks on in shock before he turns his attention to Evenstar. Calling out to the creature.
Taurus: Will you not assist us!? You are protector of this temple and does this beast not defile it with its presence!!?
Evenstar (looks at Taurus with intensity): I cannot interfear. An oath was made, and one that cannot be broken!
Taurus curses in Solamnic
Korto purses his lips and prays to Rerox that the dragon comes to the courtyard within striking distance.
Arman glances up as the shadow of the dragon crosses him. His brow furrows as he waits for his own opportunity to attack
Taurus
Taurus grits his teeth in preparation, eyes narrowing. He moves across the courtyard to place his hand on the feline.
Taurus: Gods bless you Vexin, slay this beast.
Skitters growls contentedly
Leopard (Vexin) growls contentedly
Ember wheels down to the courtyard below, landing in front of Taurus. His long neck shoots forward with remarkable speed as his massive jaws snap at the knight.
Taurus whirls around just in time to catch the creature lashing out at him; feeling the wind gust up from the mighty Red's wings. Readying his shield quickly for the attack.
The teeth are nearly as long as a kender as the skewer the knight's shoulder. The hot saliva of the dragon drips on the knights armor.
Zhage looks on as the Taurus takes a bite.
Taurus back arches and he screams out in pain, metal twisting and bending under the maw of the dragon. His eyes roll back in pain but he keeps concious, barely.
Tierwester scurries along the wall and fires off his magical energy.
Taurus: ARrgghh!
Taurus: You will answer for the lives you've destroyed!
Ember: You'll only be giving my the answer to "What's for dinner?"
Ember cackles in a terrible laughter. He licks the blood from his teeth.
The blue magical energy from the warlock dance across the dragon's back. Ember's eyes squint slightly as it hits his scaley flesh.
Gilthanas fires off another arrow.
Taurus: You may be mighty and powerful but Kiri-Jolith is more so. There is nothing you can do... he cannot undo!!
The arrow stikes Ember in the side of the head but bounces off, as if it were a tooth pick.
Zhage
Ember: And there is nothing that my dark queen will not grant for her favoured servents!
Zhage looking a bit tired, he chants a second time. As he finishes 4 bolts of energy fly towards the red dragon.
The four darts thump into Ember's chest one after another. He snarls as he snaps his neck in the mage's direction. He roars with all his fury at Zhage. The mage's robes flutter in the wind and rage the dragon causes with his mighty roar.
Vexin Sixtoes
Leopard (Vexin) casts Cold Fire on he and Skitters, and Heroic Surges as both animals charge at Ember
As Vexin closes in with Ember, Ember flashes his razor sharp claws as he swipes at the panther. Ember is clearly surprised by the courage of the panther and dire weasel
The claws swipe through the air as the leapord leaps over the clawed hand of the dragon.
Leopard (Vexin) snarls as the multiple auras surrounding he and Skitters wash over the dragon, glowing white-blue
Vexin tears into the dragon, but the claws and teeth do not penetrate Ember's thick scales.
Skitters gnaws at the dragon but it's like trying to chew on a jaw breaker.
Korto rushes forward and swings his warhammer down onto the dragon.
The hammer slams into Ember's hind leg, but Ember does not even react. Korto holds tight to his hammer as it's like striking solid stone.
Arman charges in and attacks with his own hammer.
The result is near identical to Korto's attack
Taurus
Taurus places his fist over his bleeding shoulder, chanting quietly as a glow emits from his metal clad fingers and seeps into the wound repairing some of the damage.
Taurus Then charges in to strike at the belly of the beast (Heroic Surge)
The sword scrapes along Ember's belly. Taurus almost thinks he sees sparks, but the blade does not penetrate.
Taurus: Regroup on my position melee'ers!
Leopard (Vexin): .ooc shouldn't we be trying to flank?
Ember unleashes his full fury. A clawed hand slashes out at Vexin and Taurus while a wing slams down towards Arman. The leathery tail thrashes down toward Koto. All the while, Ember grins with sickening delight.
Taurus takes a deep gash across his chest, blood spraying his recently cleaned armor.
The claws cut into Vexin. He manages to dodge a little, but the dragon still draws blood. The other claw slashes striaght through Taurus' armor and the tail slaps down, crushing Korto.
Taurus: Curse you Dragon! Curse your Dark Lady! And ANY who would stand idol whilst the righteous fight in their stead!!!
Ember licks his lips and lunges forward, attempting to make Skitter's his first meal of the night.
Ember Snaps the helpless dire weasel in his massive jaws and crunches down. Bones snap like twigs as blood spurts out from between his teeth.
Zhage looks away from the weasel eating dragon
Leopard (Vexin) yowls in sympathetic pain and fury, teeth bared, slavering jaws thirsting for revenge
Evenstar: Do not curse me, knight! I would figure an oath would be understood by one of the knighthood!
Taurus: You curse yourself Evenstar! What good is an Oath if it brings evil and suffering! Call me a lair, an oathbreaker, before you call me a traitor and a coward!
Tierwester fires off more of his arcane energy at the monstrousity.
The blue energy crackles some more, this time Ember's hide singes and smokes. Ember grimices in pain but only for a moment
Gilthanas fires his bow once more, not knowing what else to do.
Amazingly, the arrow lodges itself between two scales and small droplets of blood drip to the flagstone.
Zhage
Zhage chants another time, and 4 more missles dart out at the dragon.
The four missles burn into the dragon's flesh. Ember flashes another glare at the mage, his eye twitches but he returns his focus to those in front of him
Vexin Sixtoes
Leopard (Vexin) steps to the side, intentionally nudging Taurus purposefully southeast
Leopard (Vexin) purrs malevolently and coughs up a sticky black hairball (Blinding Spittle spell) aimed at Ember's eyes
The sticky black ball splats into the dragon's eyes. Ember rears his neck up and scratches at the substance
Leopard (Vexin) surges for a full attack
The bite sinks into Ember's leg but the cold flames do not have any effect.
The hammer bounces off Ember.
Leopard (Vexin) nudges Taurus to the SW once more
Arman attacks the dragon as well
He slams his hammer back and forth but cannot penetrate the dragon's thick hide.
Taurus
Taurus pushes his insides back in, desperately trying to heal the deep claw wounds of the dragon. Assessing the situation he removes the Hammer from his belt and hurls it towards Zhage; to land at his feet.
Taurus: You know what to do Zhage!
Taurus steps around the dragon, eyeing it cautiously.
Zhage nodding, starts to go for the hammer.
Ember's wings begin to flap hard as his massive body begins to take flight.
Taurus' sword and the two dwarves' hammers all miss or bounce off of the dragon's body.
Taurus: LOL
The leopard chomps down one last time before Ember lifts off into the air
Ember rises 100 feet into the air and begins to fly away from the floating tomb.
Leopard (Vexin) shifts into Kender form and shouts
Leopard (Vexin): COWAAAAAARD!!!!!
Vexin Sixtoes: YOU KILLED MY SKITTERS!!!
Taurus clamps a hand over the kender's mouth.
Vexin Sixtoes collapses in a weeping heap
Taurus: Calm down friend... we need to move...
Evenstar Hangs his head
Evenstar: he shall return...
Taurus shoots Evenstar a look, then calls out to his companions.
Taurus: Move out!
Tierwester climbs higher up the tower, cresting the edge.
Gilthanas rushes for the steps, listening to Taurus's orders. He keeps a weary eye on the retreating Ember.
Zhage
Zhage follows the elf, relying on his staff quite a bit.
Vexin Sixtoes
Korto and Arman follow the others toward the stairs.
Taurus
Taurus moves as fast as one can run in full plate, even as twisted as the metal is. Panting heavily as he catches up to Vexin.
Taurus and Vexin notice that as Ember flies away, his head errupts into flames, completely engulfing it. He turns his head and clearly looks at the fleeing party as he begins to wheel around through the air.
Tierwester (Shouting): He's coming back!
Taurus: Keep moving!
Gilthanas: How are we going to get off this blasted tomb?!
Vexin Sixtoes: His head is on fire!
Vexin Sixtoes: I can fly down, but I can't fly us all
Taurus: We need to get undercover! He's got the advantage out here!
Zhage: If that gold dragon wanted to, he could help out.
Gilthanas: This stair way is exposed all the way to the bottom. we need to find cover now!
Taurus: The Tower!
Vexin Sixtoes: The red room!
Gilthanas Gilthanas spins around and runs back toward the tower.
Zhage
Zhage once again follows the elf.
Vexin Sixtoes
Vexin Sixtoes shifts into Leopard form once again and dashes toards the tower
Korto bursts through the double doors of the Ruby tower.
Arman follows close behind.
Taurus
Taurus steps forward to cover the retreat of his companions.
Taurus also heals himself ;) done.
Hearing Tierwester shout his warning, Ember soars over the tower that he stands upon, shooting forth a flood of flames that curl across the cap of the tower.
Taurus, Zhage and Gilthanas see a small flaming body plummet from the tower to the valley far below Duncan's floating tomb...
Zhage looks away a second time.
Gilthanas rushes into the tower, prepared to close the door once Taurus and Zhage enter
Zhage
Zhage moves into the tower and rests against the wall.
Vexin Sixtoes
Leopard (Vexin) waits
Taurus
Taurus moves inside.
Gilthanas slams the door shut behind Taurus
Taurus: These doors won't hold for long!
Taurus peers around, trying to see who is the most wounded of the group. Then suddenly frowning.
Taurus: Tierwester. Where is Tierwester?!
Arman Kharas (Catches his breath): What do we do now? We are trapped inside, and those draconian things are coming for Thorbardin!
Gilthanas: He did not make it my friend...
Taurus frowns deeply, shaking his head.
Zhage: Looks like he went out in a blaze of glory.
Taurus: We need to bring warning to the dwarves...
Taurus peers around the room they're in, trying to assess another means for exit.
You see the remains of the true Kharas, and two more double doors which lead to the small window into the room of the swinging hammer.
as you look around the room, Evenstar in the form of "Kharas" passes through the closed doors.
Taurus moves through the second set of double doors to the window, checking its size to see if they could fit through it. Then down.
Taurus: This might be the only way down...
Taurus eyes fall on Evenstar and he glares.
Zhage puts a hand to his head while watching Taurus.
Evenstar: You can try this way, but you will fail, this I am sure. You may make it to the ground, but Ember will not stop until he has the hammer. You will not cross the valley before he kills you all...
Taurus: Shouldn't you be outside with your kin, discussing the fall of all of Ansalon?
Evenstar: Your words are strong, and I understand your anger... and because I know you do not truely understand the gravity of the situation, I will not reprieve you for what you say... But I will not tolerate much more.
Evenstar eye glitters gold as he speaks the last words
Taurus strides towards 'Kharas' and levels his gaze on him.
Taurus: I have seen little difference between you and that monster out there but the color of your scales.
Taurus: Except the Red is willing to fight for what it believes in.
"Kharas" skin brings on a ting of gold as his face clouds over with anger.
Taurus looms over the 'dwarf'. Pointing a bloodied finger at him.
Taurus: How DARE you grow angry over my accusations and yet stand so passive when my companions are SLAUGHTERED!
Evenstar: AND HOW DARE YOU ENTER THIS SACRED TOMB AND PRESUME THAT YOU ARE WELCOME TO WHAT IS HERE FOR YOUR OWN NEEDS! SENSELESS HUMAN! DO NOT TRY MY PATCIENCE MUCH LONGER!
Zhage slides down the wall into a sitting position, not wanting to anger either Taurus or the gold dragon.
His stature grows to tower over the knight, his voice booms in the chamber and the light darkens and flickers as the dragon speaks
Taurus almost staggers back from the shear power before the Dragons voice, in dwarf form or any other. However, despite his concern he managers to stay fairly resolute.
Taurus: You will assist us in bringing word to those of Thorbadin of the assault! Or so help me Kiri-Jolith I will hail with my last breath that those lizards of golden scale are the cowardly of all dragons!
Taurus: Protect the living, not the dead! This tomb is nothing without the people alive to remember it!!
Evenstar voice lowers back to his regular tone.
Evenstar: an oath is an oath. Much is at stake. Lives of many would be lost if I were to interfear. I cannot attack Ember, as he cannot attack me. It is the oath that was sworn and cannot be broken. I do not wish to see you die this day, for Ansalon needs you more than ever before. But the concequences would be far more grave if I do interfear.
You hear a light thumping against the door.
Ember: knock knock?! Can you come out to play?
Leopard (Vexin): lol
Taurus: You need not attack Ember to assist us. We need not his death but delivery to the gates of Thorbadin. Take us on your back, use the oath that protects you from him to protect us.
Taurus shoots a look towards the doors, then back to Evenstar.
Zhage: No
Evenstar looks back at the door.
Zhage: Go away...
Leopard (Vexin) casts Lesser Vigor on Taurus.... 15 hp over 15 rounds
Taurus blinks at Vexin then offers him a faint smile of thanks.
Evenstar: your young mage wishes me to take my leave... I cannot carry you all to safety, nor can I leave this tomb. I am bound to it. You must take the hammer to Thorbardin. Ember's wounds are grave... You shall defeat him, if it is the will of the gods.
Evenstar gives a slight smile.
Zhage (shocked): I was refering to Ember.
Taurus frowns some at Evenstar speaking of the gods will. He shakes his head slowly, looking amongst his companions.
Taurus: Those who need healing speak now, once we're in the thick of it there might be little to spare.
Taurus eyes the two dwarves.
Korto: I am suffering from some broken ribs, I believe...
Korto winces as he gingerly touches his side.
Taurus touches korto's shoulder, then places a hand gently to his ribs.
Taurus: May the Kiri-Jolith give you the strength to smite this beast.
Arman Kharas: I am unharmed, and prepared to kill the monster that lies yonder!
Taurus uses up x3 clw
Korto: Thank you, Taurus...
Leopard (Vexin) casts MAgic Fang on his teeth and the his claws
Korto examins his wounds with facination
Leopard (Vexin) casts Bite of the Wereboar once more on himself
Taurus nods slowly, cleaning a bit of blood from his face so he can see better.
Taurus: Are we ready?
Leopard (Vexin) casts Body of the Sun on himself just before the doors are opened once more
Leopard (Vexin) growls in readiness
Zhage stands up and gets ready to fight once more.
Arman Kharas: Aye! Allow me to go first. I will draw his attack while the rest of you charge forward.
Leopard (Vexin) casts Cold Fire on himself as well
Taurus bows his head in prayer, casting three spells. The first, bless, to grant all his companions +1 to hit. Then, Enlarge Person, the cleric growing to double his size. Then, finally, Divine Power, his eyes glowing a hot rightous white.
Taurus: Aye Arman. Go.
Taurus casts Bull Strength on Arman too ;)
Arman Kharas grips his warhammer and glances to the rest of the group. He nods once and boots the door open, revealing Ember standing there. Arman lets loose a dwarven battle cry and charges forward the same time Ember snakes his head forward for his own attack against the charging dwarf.
The fangs clamp down on the dwarves arm but Arman shakes himself loose with a cry of pain. He charges forward still, and slams his warhammer against the dragon's chest.
The hammer slams down hard into the dragon's chest. Ember wheezes a moment as smoke curls from his nostrils
Gilthanas charges out and attacks with his longsword.
The sword scrapes along the side of Ember, but does not draw blood.
Zhage
Zhage chants, points as a green ray erupts from his finger.
The acid splashes on Embers wing, burning small holes in the thinner membrane
Vexin Sixtoes
Leopard (Vexin) charges forward, pouncing on the dragon
Vexin bites down hard on Ember's neck before he shakes him loose
Korto charges forward and attacks with his warhammer
The hammer clanks against the armored scales of Ember
Taurus
Taurus drops his shield and with both hands lifts his longsword hgih as he charges in right behind Arman, letting out a call to Kiri-Jolith as his eyes glow a hot white. Lumbering forward he hurtles the massive longsword around for the dragons neck; memontarily distracted by the charging dwarf.
The longsword glances off Ember's neck. Ember clearly is surprised by the attack but maintains his ground
Ember bites towards Vexin and sends his razor claws towards the two dwarfs.
All three attacks strike their targets. Blood spills forth from the three, Arman staggers as blood gushes from his many wounds.
Arman Grimices past the pain and moves in to strike at Ember once more.
arman's hammer strikes miss. Arman barely keeps himself propped up on his hammer.
Gilthanas slashes his sword down toward Ember
The sword cannot penetrate the thick scales
Zhage
Zhage chants another time, this time a small ray of cold leaves his finger.
The ray of frost leaves ice hanging from Ember's jaw while the acid eats away at his wing, expanding the hole even wider
Vexin Sixtoes
The barrage of attacks from Vexin all strike the dragon but cannot break through the tough hide
Korto swings his war hammer at the dragon
It thuds into Ember's neck but does not break through
Taurus
Taurus roars out the Somanic word for Strength as he brings his longsword riiiight back. His armor almost buckling at the sudden muscle he puts on (strength domain). Directing his longsword with two sharp swings followed with a blurred third. (heroic surge)
Taurus' Long sword of Radiance slices through Ember's thick neck. It cuts through it with the ease of a hot knife in butter. Blood from the wound sizzles as it cuts through the tounge. It is obvious that Ember was about to let loose a breath weapon attack. The head of Ember falls to the ground and his body slumps over as well. Thick smoke billows out of the gaping hole that once held his head.
Taurus (Whispered): Blessed be Kiri-Jolith...
Taurus turns his glowing white eyes on Evenstar next.
Taurus turns his glowing white eyes on Evenstar next.
Evenstar exits the ruby tower and looks over the battlefield. He nods.
Taurus wipes the blood from his longsword and scoops up the Dragons head. Looking to his companions as he strides towards the stairs.
Taurus: We will take this as proof of the might of the Dragon armies.
Warhorns sound from the valley below. The army approaches. Evenstar, as Kharas, collapses to the floor. He beigns to age and the tomb trembles.
Evenstar: I have completed at last my fateful mission, and now I must rest. Take the Hammer. let it not fall into the enemy's hands! Flee east and fail not.
Leopard (Vexin) shifts back into Kender form
Zhage holds his head for a second, but moves it to mock wipe sweat/
Leopard (Vexin): How do they get down? they can't fly like me
Evenstar: Let the hammer fullfil it's destiny!
Evenstar looks in pain to Vexin
Evenstar: take these...
Evenstar reaches into his pocket and 5 small statues of horses scatter across the flagstone.
Vexin Sixtoes: Ooh! Toys!
Vexin Sixtoes gathers the statuettes and distributes them
Vexin Sixtoes: So what are they?
Taurus eyes Vexin and the small statues for a moment before he strides across the courtyard and attempts to tear the flagpole out of the ground.
Evenstar: Throw these to the ground and say "Branchala guide me!"
Vexin Sixtoes thorws his to the ground and shouts "Branchala Guide Me!"
The statue lands to the ground. As it hits the courtyard it flashes into a full grown, live horse.
Korto (chases Taurus): What are you doing, Taurus?!
Vexin Sixtoes: Ooh.... a horse!
Taurus: This was not the only Dragon we face. We require these tools to defend both your people and mine.
Vexin Sixtoes mounts the horse and gallops around the party as they dawdle
Korto: It is a lance! One that i can make back in Thorbardin...
Zhage moves over to pick a horses and waits until Taurus is ready.
Taurus: I heard stories of these lances, in my youth, tearing Dragons asunder by the dozen.
Korto nods and helps Taurus pry the lance loose.
Taurus: Do not wait for us! Go!
Taurus calls over his shoulder as he and Korto pry the lance.
As Vexin gets upon the horse, the horse rears up and rushes forward, straight to the edge of the tomb. It leaps over the battlements and plummets to the ground with Vexin still astride.
Gilthanas: Vexin!
Vexin Sixtoes: WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Korto looks up at the last moment, seeing the horse leap from the tomb
Taurus seems too distracted to notice Vexin go right off the edge, but hearing Gilthanas he looks up and around.
Taurus: I really hope they can fly...
Zhage does a doubletake, throws his statue to the ground and says "Branchala Guide Me!"
Evenstar: There... is... no time... Do like wise... as your kender friend...
Zhages horse flashes to a life size, real horse.
Zhage hops on and follows the Kender
Taurus: Use your hammer to break the stone around the base!
Gilthanas and Arman do the same, and their horses leap from the tomb.
Korto Smashes the base, freeing the flag pole from it's base
Taurus: Alright! Lets go!!
Taurus grasps the heavy pole, putting it over his shoulder he runs over to the stone statuettes on the floor.
Taurus: Branchala guide me!
Korto follows Tauru's lead, tossing it to the ground and shouts the command. He then mounts and the horse strides forward and leaps from the tomb.
Taurus throws the stone on the ground.
Taurus leaps up onto the horse and puts his heels into its flanks.
Taurus: Away!
Vexin plummets to the ground at an alarming rate, the ground fast approching. At the last moment, right before he and his horse smashes into the frozen ground, the horse floats to a gentle landing. Zhage follows close behind. Moments later, Gilthanas and Arman's mounts land followed by Kroto and Taurus.
Vexin Sixtoes: WOOOOOooooo that was fun!
Taurus squints, waiting for impact and when it doesn't come he sits up and peers around. Trying to steer the steed to guide it in the direction where they came from; the entrance of Thorbadin.
Just as Taurus and Korto touch the ground, you hear a roucous screeching from above.
Taurus peers upwards.
Taurus: By Kiri-Jolith...
You see six red dragons, smaller than Ember, but still impresive, circling the tower in confusion. The tomb shudders, crumbling, then slowly sinks.
Zhage: Well.. that was fun.
Taurus: We should hasten our exodes...
Taurus: I have suspicions that those creatures up there will not be pleased to see their parents head in my arms...
Zhage: Agreed.
Gilthanas: Wait... Evenstar said to flee east... We came from the west.
Taurus: Arman, what is east?
Arman Kharas: There is a gate to the east into Thorbardin...
Arman Kharas looks back west
Taurus: I see... thene ast we go.
Arman Kharas: those "draconians" come from the west and north... They surely will try to enter Thorbardin via that gate.
Taurus: Then we must make haste!
Taurus: Hyar!
Taurus spurs his mount on! hi ho silver away!
You race across the Valley of Thanes to the Guarding Hall and the Ninth Road. Arman tells you that the gate is well guarded by Daegar warriors.
Arman Kharas: the army will have to contend with them once we pass.
Taurus: Aye! And we can send word up the chain so they can be reinforced.
Looming in the distance, you see a giant arch. As you approach closer, Arman looks on with puzzelment.
Arman Kharas: this is odd...
Taurus: What is?
you approach closer still and see that the gate sits slightly open. There is not a soul around.
Taurus: Where are the guards?
Zhage: I am guessing this is not normal?
Arman Kharas approaches a strange mechanical mechanisim on the inside of the gate.
Taurus (Murmered): The Thiewar...
Arman Kharas: it is broken. Curses! Rance... It is he who commands the Daegar. He has destroyed the mechanisim. The gate cannot be closed... Why would he do such a thing?
Taurus: It appears you have traitors in your midst Arman. Perhaps this is why the Thiewar Thane knew so much.
Taurus: Surely it is no coincidence that the gate is broken just as the Drak forces arive.
Arman Kharas: But this is Daegar controled. The Daegar are dark dwarves like the Thiewar... but they have never been hostile.
Taurus: We shall find out soon enough I fear. Be on your guard friends! We may encounter resistance re-entering Thorbadin!
As you pass through the gate, you see 30 feet away a portcullis lies useless on the ground.
The war drums of the dragonarmy can be heard behind you, even still
Taurus: Does anyone see any signs of a struggle?
you do not see any signs of a struggle. None other than what struggle it would take to disable such defensive mechanisims.
Taurus: Continue on! There is nothing left to do here but warn those forces still loyal of the deciet and impending danger.
You press on, and about 200 feet down the tunnel, out of the dark gloom, a line of dwarven spearmen stretch across the corridor. As you come into sight, they set their long spears towards you.
Henrik: Halt! In the name of Thane Rance, you are to surrender peacefully!
Zhage: What in the hells is going on?
Vexin Sixtoes: Here we go again...
A large burly dwarf steps forward. He has a large contingent of dwarven spearmen behind him, forty plus.
Arman Kharas scowls at the dwarf.
Arman Kharas (hisses): Henrik...
Arman Kharas (to the others): he is the Daegar's champion
Taurus eyes the dwarves, nodding slowly to Arman. He shifts forward on the horse, lifts the head of the dragon up to show the detachment of dwarves.
Gilthanas (whisper): We are in no shape to fight, are we?
Taurus (Whisper): Dont let them know that...
Taurus: Translate for me, Zhage.
The dwarveslook to one another nervously as the head of Ember is held high.
Zhage nods and prepares to translate.
Taurus: Allow us to pass or you dwarves will suffer the same fate.
Henrik does not seem to be worried...
Gilthanas: Thane Rance will not look kindly to your resistance. Surrender now, and you may still survive. We clearly have you out numbered
Henrik: Thane Rance will not look kindly to your resistance. Surrender now, and you may still survive. We clearly have you out numbered
Taurus makes a subtly head count.
Vexin Sixtoes: But we have the Hammer of Kharas!
You scan over the dwarven spearmen. They are close to 50 strong. The dragon army marches on behind you. Arman sits loosely in his saddle, nearly falling out of it from time to time.
Henrik: aye! We know.
Henrik grins
Taurus: You first betray your kin and now you betray your ancestors.
Taurus: Know that your actions today may see the complete extinction of your kind; the undoing of Roerx' great work.
Henrik: We will not warn you again... throw down your arms or you shall die here, this day. and we will take the hammer from you.
Taurus looks around at his companions, seeing their wounds and exhastion. He shakes his head slowly, unbuckling the sheath of his longsword he tosses it to the ground.
Taurus: We surrender.
Henrik: Surrender, and you may keep the hammer... at least for a while.
Henrik: wise desicion.
Vexin Sixtoes: bah!
Vexin Sixtoes surrenders but continues muttering about stupid dwarves
Gilthanas frowns but drops his weapons as well.
Arman Kharas Weakly mutters about traitors but drops his warhammer.
Arman Kharas Korto does likewise.
Zhage: May I keep my walking stick?
Henrik: We know how you magic types work... drop the "stick" or we'll take it and use it for firewood.
Taurus: Zhage...
Zhage nods and drops his staff/
The spearmen gather the weapons, all but the Hammer of Kharas, which they allow you to carry. They do not bound you, but they do surround you, leaving your horses there in the hall. They march you through the dwarven halls
Taurus walks beside Arman and helps support him where neccasary, taking in their surrounds as they're escorted through the great halls.
Taurus: Henrik is it? Tell me, how many more have sided with the Draks?
The road leads on for a short while. Then it opens up into another city, or at least thats what it seems at first. Soon you realize that it is not a city, but more of a fortification of some sort.
Henrik: heh! Those who know which side will win! Verminaard has sworn that Thane Rance shall be crowned the high king with the Hammer of Kharas. Rance shall rule our kingdom under the might of Verminaard and his army.
Taurus nods slowly as he listens.
Taurus: I see. And what of the Thiewar? Do they also betray their kin?
The dwarves near Taurus and Henrik chuckle at the mention of the Thiewar.
Henrik: they are only pawns... they believe that they will be crowned king. We have simply used them to meet our own ends. They will be rewarded if they accept this fact. If not...
Henrik trails off a big grin plastered on his face.
Taurus nods slowly, unable to help but a small smile drift across his face.
Taurus: That sounds very similiar to what your deal with the Dragonarmies is. In fact, it sounds exactly the same.
Taurus: I would not be surprised if Verminard simply turns you on each other onces the other clans have fallen then destroys you both.
Taurus: A rather sound tactic, mind you.
Henrik (scowls): It matters not. Verminaard will be here soon to grant us our rightful place at the throne. He understands that the Daegar are mightier than the Thiewar and the other clans! He knows that we will give our service of our army to him. To help him conqure the lands he has his sights on next!
Taurus: And which lands would that be? He has already conquered all of the above lands; the only lands left are yours. So what reason would he have to forge a true alliance with you?
Henrik (Chuckles): The lands of the south are free of his rule. His army can march through our gates with ease and his draconians and our dwarves will conqure all the lands of Ansalon!
The dwarves lead you to a large prison complex. There are a large number of Daegar guards and several prisoners cry out to you for help as you pass.
Taurus glances at the prisoners as they pass, continueing his conversation with Henrik as they do.
Taurus: I see, this Rance is obviously an experienced tactician and quite a trusting man. I am sure my friend Eben would love to work out a trade charter with him.
Taurus: Sell him vails of special magic air that prolongs life, or some such.
They throw you all into a large cell and lock the door behind you. Inside is Eben, his clothes are torn and he has bruises on his face and arms. Also in the cell is another man. His clothes are in tatters and his hair is longer than any you have seen in a long time. A bears stretches down to his waist.
Eben (groggily): Taurus?
Taurus frowns and approaches Eben, placing his hand on his shoulder. Nodding.
Taurus: Yes Eben, its me. Are you alright?
Eben: Just a few bruises...
Taurus: Your a tought nut to crack Eben. Whos that?
Taurus nods to the other man.
Eben looks to the other man.
Eben: I don't know... He was here when I got here. I tried talking to him but he hasn't said a word. I think he might be a mute...
Eben: What happened to you? Where is Tierwester.
Zhage: Went up in flames at the site of a dragon..
Eben: By the gods! that is horrible! Did you retrieve the hammer?
Zhage: Yes, I have it..
Taurus hands Eben the head of Ember and approaches the man in tatters, crouching down beside him he inspects him closely.
Taurus: Are you alright?
Eben: Good work, Zhage! They let you keep it?! It is a blessing!
Zhage: It is rather odd to be honest..
Vexin Sixtoes: Hullo! I'm Vexin Sixtoes, Mighty Dragonslayer!
The man stares at the stone wall across from him, he does not even react to Taurus
Vexin Sixtoes extends his hand
Taurus waves his hand infront of the mans face, clicks.
Taurus: Sir?
The man does not respond to the kender. He continues to stare, even as you wave your hand in front of him.
Taurus steps back, letting out a sigh; feeling bad for the man. He looks to Eben as he approaches Arman.
Taurus: How did they take you Eben?
Taurus takes up his holy symbol and presses a hand to Arman's side. A white heat washes over his wounds.
Eben: After you left on your quest, there was a raid on the Hylar city. I was taken by the Daegar and brought here.
Taurus: It seems this treachery has gone much deeper than I first thought.
Taurus continues to heal Arman, head bowing to finish up the final prayer before standing back. Leaning against the wall of their cage, his eyes lowered in exhaustion.
Eben: So what happens now? We're in quite a pickle...
Taurus: We need to get the hammer to the Hylar.
Zhage takes a seat next to the old man and puts his hands to his head.
Taurus: Are you alright Zhage?
Taurus looks over at the young mage.
Zhage: Yes.. just a headache.
Taurus nods slowly, looking around their cell.
Zhage gives a small sigh of relief..
Taurus: At least the Hlyar are aware of the betrayal, it is a small blessing.
The cell is small, but has enough room for all of you. There is some old straw sparsely scattered on the floor and an empty rusty bucket sits in the cornor.
Vexin Sixtoes fiddles with the cell lock
Vexin fiddles with the lock but cannot crack it.
Gilthanas: I suppose we just wait until they come for us....
Taurus: We should gather our strength before attempting an escape.
Taurus: Take some food, water, rest.
The times passes. It is hard to say if it is night or day, as here in this prison, there is always the light of the torches, and the Daegar guards keep a watchful eye on their prisoners.
Zhage attemps to rest while in the cell.
Taurus sits next to the stranger and tries to encourage him to partake of some of his rations and a bit of water; placing a comforting hand on the mans shoulder.
As you place a hand on his shoulder, he recoils from your touch and scurries into the cornor. He stares at you.
Vexin Sixtoes casts Mass Lesser Vigor on the 2 dwarves and himself
Taurus shows open hands to show he is no threat. Setting the ration down and his waterskin, he backs away.
He is human. He does not look to be too old. in his late 20's. His hair is extremely long and his skin is filthy.
Taurus: What is your name?
Taurus: I am Taurus Regulas.
the man stares at you. When you speak, he blinks and crooks his head slightly, much like a dog who has been asked if he "wants to go for a walk".
Taurus: What... is... your... name...
Taurus talks slower, as if that ever works.
The man crooks his head even more and stares at him in apparent confusion.
Taurus nods encouragingly to the ration and water and backs further away, to his companions. Lowering his voice.
Eben: It's no use Taurus. I've tried to talk to him for hours when I got here...
Taurus (Quietly): Rest up, we've been in this situation before... when we're at full strength and they come for us, we'll overwhelm them.
Taurus (Quietly): Zhage, prepare some spells for mass numbers; even the odds.
Taurus (Quietly): Eben, your on first watch. Then Gilthanas. Alert us if they come for us.
Taurus makes himself as comfortable as he can, trying to get a few hours rest.
Eben nods
You all rest through out the "night". After a much needed sleep, your roused by Gilthanas.
Taurus looks around, nodding to Gilthanas in thanks.
Zhage takes his time and prepares his spells carefully.
Zhage and while he has a few moment, casts mage armor upon himself/
Taurus lights a few insence and kneels in prayer for an hour or so, lips moving but nothing coming out.
Taurus (Quiet): When they come for us, if they take us all, let them lead us away from the jailors. When we find a quiet spot along our path I'll give you the signal.
Taurus (Quiet): If they come for just one, or the hammer, we'll take them right there and then.
Gilthanas: We don't have weapons... it might be more difficult than we expect, but I will be ready for your signal.
Taurus nods slowly.
Taurus (quiet): Zhage can level a few of them, then we can take their weapons.
Zhage (nodding): I can try, but that may bring a lot of unwanted attention
A large contingent of Daegar and Theiwar dwarves come and open your cell. They escort you all out, even the other 100 or so dwarven prisoners and they lead you all out of the prison.
Taurus glances around as they're taken out of the cells, attempting to ask one of the guards.
Taurus: Where are our belongings?
Dwarven guard: Don't worry. They will be taken care of.
Taurus: Where are you taking us?
You, the other prisoners, and the guards walk out of the prison and down a long hall. Two double doors open wide as you approach and you are escorted into a large chamber. A large pit with a platform over it sits in the center of the room.
Taurus frowns somewhat as they move, not liking the look of this. Making a head count of armed guards as they move.
The guards are at least two to one for every prisoner. The 100 or so dwarven prisoners are all seveaely beaten and look in no shape to fight.
In the chamber are doors on each side.
The west great hall is barred by a locked golden gate. Suddenly, the gates are flung open. In strides Verminaard, clad in black armor, along with several draconians, human warriors, and aides. He stops at a point near the pit, where he has a good view of the whole room. He removes his cloak and hands it to an aide.
Verminaard: I, (he says imperiously, looking toward you), have had just about enough of you. I thank you for most graciously playing directly into my planfinding Thorbardin for me and retrieving the Hammer of Kharas, with which I will control this nation. But, now I am told that you have murdered my dragon.
He shakes his head.
Taurus eyes widen as he recognises the man, though somewhat impressive still he doesn't command the same kind of respect atop a dragon high in the sky. Subtly, Taurus, hides the dragon head in his cloak.
Verminaard: How dare you destroy such an ancient and noble creature? For that you will pay dearly. To begin your humiliating defeat, one of your own will bring the Hammer to me.
His gaze sweeps over youand pauses on Eben Shatterstone.
Verminaard: Do your duty.
Eben (moves to take the hammer): Nothing personal. Back the winner, thats what I always say.
Eben Moves to step in front of Zhage.
Taurus jaw drops, looking to Eben.
Taurus (Whispered): Mother fu...
Zhage reacts instictively, moving the hammer away from Eben, and start to do a subtle chant..
Taurus steps forward, placing a hand on Zhages shoulder to still him.
Vexin Sixtoes: BAD EBEN!
Vexin Sixtoes: BAD!
When Zhage does not give the hammer immediately, Eben glances over to Verminaard for guidance, his hand on the hilt of his sword.
Vexin Sixtoes wags his finger at Eben
Before Verminaard can respond Rance, who has been standing near Verminaard, looks at the Highlord angrily.
Rance: The agreement was for me to take the Hammer and rule, not you!
At this, the Theiwar begin chuckling. The Daegar are not nearly so amused.
Zhage stops, knowing Taurus's plated hand upon his shoulder.
Verminaard (snarls): Hold your tongue, lackey. You are simply a pawn, and you will serve your betters! Thorbardin is mine, in the name of the Dark Queen!
He turns back to Eben.
Verminaard: Bring me the Hammer!
Taurus puts his hand out to Zhage, for the hammer.
Zhage hands th hammer to Taurus and steps behind him.
Taurus: Eben.
Taurus: Nothing Personal.
Taurus cracks him in the face with the hammer.
Eben spins and his knees buckle as the hammers smashes into his chin. He slowly turns back to face Taurus, rubbing his chin.
Eben: I suppose I deserve that...
Eben: now hand over the hammer, Taurus.
Taurus nods slowly.
Taurus lifts the bloodied hammer high in the air, yell out at the top of his voice.
Taurus: THIS HAMMER BELONGS TO THE DWARVES OF THORBADIN!
As You lift the hammer over your head, Verminaard raises his arm and yanks it back toward him. With that motion, the hammer flies out of Taurus' hand and lands on the floor.
Taurus blinks as the hammer is relinquished from him, leveling his eyes on Verminaard. He folds his arms over his chest.
Verminaard: Bring the Hammer to me!
Taurus: I didn't think even the Daegar would stand idly by as they were betrayed.
Eben picks the hammer up and begins to walk it over to Verminaard. As he walks over, the hammer begins to glow. Eben freezes in mid-stride, clearly uncertain of what to do. The Daegar are awed and fall to their knees.
Verminaard (livid): BRING THE HAMMER TO ME!! NOW!
Taurus: There's no turning back from this Eben.
Rance Walks over to Eben
Eben Looks to Taurus and then back to the hammer
Taurus quietly nudges Zhage.
Rance: Give me that, you idiot.
Taurus (Wait): for it....
Before anyone can move, he grabs it from Eben.
Taurus (Whispered): Wait for it....
Rance (Shouts): With this Hammer, I control the dwarven realms, not you!
He throws the Hammer at Verminaard, striking the big man in the chest. The Hammer rebounds and lands at the edge of the pit. The Daegar stand again, their axes at the ready. The Theiwar and draconians draw swords and bring their axes to the ready, all staring at each other suspiciously, expecting betrayal.
At that moment, Verminaard rises to his full stature, points to Rance and makes a silent prayer to his dark queen. Rance stops in mid stride, un able to move. Verminaard looks to Eben.
Verminaard: Kill him.
Eben draws his sword.
Suddenly, one of the Daegar dwarves shouts, "For Rance! To the Thane!" Within seconds, a terrible battlecry erupts from the Daegar. The Theiwar respond in kind, and the two dwarven clans tear into each other with an awesome ferocity. Your Theiwar guards release their grasp on you and watch the battle intently, but they stay near you, wary of your actions.
