It all started back in the sleepy tree top town of Solace. Two plainsmen by the name of Goldmoon and Riverwind in possession on a Blue Crystal Staff. At the time, no one knew that this staff held a gift given to man by the ancient true gods that the people of Krynn had abandoned over 300 years ago. Also at this time, an army composed of dragonmen never before seen in this world or any other, was forming in the north and preparing to march across the lands of Abanasinia.
In an effort to learn what was so special about this Blue Crystal Staff, the unlikely band of heroes learned that the answer to their questions could be found in the ruins of Xak Tsaroth far across the East Wall Mountains.
In the ruined city, the heroes discover that dragon's have returned to the world after being abscent for thousands of years. But more importantly, they discover that the true gods are making themselves known once more and the companions are sent on a quest to find "The Leader of the People". For it is this person who will be able to read the Discs of Mishakal, also found in Xak Tsaroth.
Returning to Solace, the companions find that much has changed in only the short week they were away. The Dragon army from the north has marched on the south, leaving Solace and all the other settlements in ravaged ruins.
Captured in an effort to save Tika and an elven prince, Gilthanas, the companions become apart of a slave caravan heading to the iron mines of Pax Tharkas controled by the Dragon Highlord, Verminaard. But before they reach their destination, the elves of Qualinesti spring an attack from their boarders, freeing the companions. News of the companion's new powers granted by the gods garners them an invitation to meet with the Seeker of the Sun.
In their meeting, it is revealed that the Qualinesti are set to flee their homelands in order to escape the dragon army stationed at Pax Tharkas. The elves ask the heroes to free their own people enslaved at the iron mines there, in order to create a diversion for the Qualinesti to escape.
The heroes rescue the slaves, but the coming winter forces them to find shelter with the dwarves of Thorbardin, but first they must find them. All the while, the dragon army pursues the fleeing refugee's into the Tharkadan Mountains.
It is believed that a hint to the entrance to Thorbardin will be found within the scorched fortress now known as Skullcap. The heroes eventually find a map buried in the layer of Fistandantalus which is believed to be the location of the dwarven knigdom that has remained sealed shut for 300 years...
and so the story continues...
Taurus cleans red dragon giblets from his gauntlets, that 'gleam' in his eyes having mostly faided. He looks over his companions now with an air of pride before rising before them.
Vexin Sixtoes time to seek the dragon's shinies!
Taurus: Zhage, can you check this cache over for magical items quickly. If this red can find the refugee's, others shall also shortly.
Vexin Sixtoes: Zhage, did you find anything?
Vexin Sixtoes casts Detect Magic while he searches
Taurus: Blaize, great and mighty dragon of good. Now that you are free, what will you do now?
Zhage lowers his head and raises his hands to his temples as he mumbles words of magic.
Blaize Licks a wound before reguarding Taurus.
Blaize: you say that there are refugee's hidden in a valley some where?
Vexin Sixtoes (mumbles absently as he searches): North... Refugees are north in a valley...
Vexin Sixtoes hums a Kender treasure song while he searches
Taurus: Aye. Now we have a map to Thorbadin, we will make haste to their location to expodite them to the dwarves.
Blaize: I'd be happy to look upon their safety. It is likely they won't relaize I'm not part of this dragon army you speak of, but perhaps one of you can accompany me to reassure them that I mean no harm?
Hawkeye steps forward
Taurus nods to Hawkeye.
Hawkeye: Taurus, I will take this task. I am afraid that our difference of opinion on some matters might clout our judgment... and so I feel I must leave, despite my heavy heart in this matter
Hawkeye gives a slight glance towards Eben
Taurus looks towards Eben then back to Hawk.
Taurus: I understand, old friend. I bid the gods keep you safe and that you know dispite our differing opinions I concider you my most trusted allie.
Vexin Sixtoes: Bye Hawkeye!
Taurus offers Hawkeye his arm.
Vexin Sixtoes hugs Hawkeye's leg, then resumes his search for treasures
Jeren does not hesitate to accept the outstretched hand
Vexin Sixtoes: Never forget Hawkeye, Wherever you go... There you are!
Vexin Sixtoes: Old Kender Proverb
Hawkeye does not hesitate to accept the outstretched hand
Taurus takes Hawk's forarm in hsi hand, in a warriors embrace. Giving a firm squeeze before stepping back.
Hawkeye: I too will accomany you. The rest of you must find the Dwarves of Thorbardin. We will wait until your return, and ensure that the refugees are safe
Taurus: Make haste friends.
Taurus nods to Jeren.
The sound of coins rolling into the water disruptes the goodbyes.
Vexin Sixtoes: Oops!
Taurus looks over.
Taurus: Vexin....
Vexin Sixtoes giggles
Zhage: Vexin, take those boots, those two bottles, and the leather armor and chain mail to the side...
Zhage: those radiate with magic.
Vexin Sixtoes: Yessir!
Blaize: I cannot bear the weight of two riders, so we will have to walk.
Hawkeye nods
Jeren: it will not be a problem, noble dragon
Vexin Sixtoes: We walked here!
Hawkeye: Fairwell to all. We shall see you upon your return. Hopefully with good tidings from the dwarves
Taurus: Aye, by the gods will.
Hawkeye heads towards the exit with Jeren by his side. Blaize lumbers off behind them
Taurus straps the set aside magical items on his pack; removing coin to make room.
Vexin Sixtoes: I'm loaded, onward to Thorbardin!
Taurus Finishes strapping on his pack and lets out a tired sigh. Looking around he nods to Vexin.
Taurus: Aye, lets head out!
Vexin Sixtoes jingles along happily
Vexin Sixtoes: Come Skitters! we have more dragons to vanquish!
Taurus: Perhaps with some kind words, and a hefty bribe, the gates shall open for us after all.
Skitters rolls his eyes and follows
Taurus unfurls the map, peering at it. Turning it this way and that.
Taurus: Zhage, it might be wise to prepare a spell to allow me to have flight or climbing ability lest I tumble my way down the side of the mountain.
Gilthanas nods to Taurus
Vexin Sixtoes: Bah! we can slide down the rope
Taurus: Vexin, take a look at this map. You know the lay of the land better than I.
Zhage nods to Taurus
Vexin Sixtoes reads the map
Vexin Sixtoes: Hmm, certainly not the quality of a Kender map
Vexin Sixtoes: But it might do
Taurus: Then, whilst Hawkeye is gone, your in charge of navigation.
Taurus tucks on the boots, hovers up and down for a few minutes testing them out.
Examining the map, you figue that it will take about a day to get to the location that is marked as being the entrance to Thorbardin
Vexin Sixtoes: We should be on our way to get to Thorbardin before dark!
Taurus: Then lets get started.
Taurus makes his way for the exit of skullcap, hoping that his decent will be a lot easier with the levitating boots.
With careful consideration, the party makes it's way down the side of Skullcap. The wind blows across the snow covered plains of Dergoth, but the sun is not obscured by clouds. The wind seems to have a hint of warmth to it, making it an enjoyable day for travel
Taurus: It seems like the season is on the change...
Vexin Sixtoes: I predicted this a week ago!
Vexin Sixtoes giggles
Taurus suppresses a groan.
With renewed vigor, the group makes their way across the plains without encounter or incident
Taurus keeps one eye to the sky.
Vexin Sixtoes while travelling, searches through everyone's packs, playing with various items.
Taurus: Don't get too attached to your new toys Vexin. We may have to offer these to the dwarves in order to convince them to allow us passage through their halls.
Vexin Sixtoes: Pfft!
Vexin Sixtoes nearly cuts off his foot with a short sword
Vexin Sixtoes casts Longstrider on himself, sharing it with Skitters
You reach the base of the mountains and you see that a sheer cliff rises into the sky. A thin ledge, no wider than 5 feet in some places, makes it's way up the side of the cliff.
Vexin Sixtoes: That looks like fun!
Taurus: Hmm...
Eben: Is that the way?
Taurus: We'll secure a rope between us as a safety line. If someone falls the others can reel them in.
Vexin Sixtoes: Looks like it!
After a long climb, The steep defile suddenly opens up onto a narrow, five-foot-wide ledge. Below, a cliff drops 1,000 feet to the valley. Above, the cliff climbs 500 feet to become part of the mountain ridge. Another gorge can be seen at the far end of the ledge almost 100 feet away. The defile on the far side of the ledge leads into a box canyon dead end.
Vexin Sixtoes: hmm
Vexin Sixtoes searches for a way in
Vexin Sixtoes: Nope, nothing here!
Taurus: Are you sure we're in the right place Vexin?
Vexin Sixtoes: Yep
Taurus looks around himself, feeling about the rock face. Though not the most perceptive of people he might stumble onto somthing the attention deficet kender may have missed.
Vexin Sixtoes: I don't even see a door, much less a way to open it
Vexin Sixtoes: But this is the spot
Vexin Sixtoes: there's a door here... I just don;t see it
Wind blows through the canyon along this narrow path, and you feel your skin begin to chill. You search for the gate, but cannot seem to find it.
Taurus shivers
Taurus: Perhaps it is disguised with some kind of magic?
Eben: maybe the cataclysim destroyed it and it no longer exists?
Vexin Sixtoes: Pfft!
Eben shrugs
Vexin Sixtoes: you should cover your head before more stupidity escapes!
Taurus: Vexin.
Taurus: That isn't very nice.
Vexin Sixtoes cackles gleefully
Taurus gives Eben an apologetic look before he moves down the narrow path to the dead end.
Vexin Sixtoes (whispers): Well it's true!
Taurus: Does anyone know the dwarven word for 'Open'?
Vexin Sixtoes: Yes
Zhage begins to cast a spell. Moments later he looks to the group.
Vexin Sixtoes speaks the word "Open" in Dwarven
Taurus: Well, what is it?
Taurus nods.
Zhage: there is nothing magical about this side of the mountain.
Vexin Sixtoes: the door is here though, I'm certain
Taurus lifts up both hands, and speaks in a large booming voice the dwarven word for 'Open'.
Gilthanas looks at the kender with doubt, but continues to search the side of the wall
Taurus' voice echos through the canyon but nothing seems to happen otherwise.
Taurus gives it a moment then deflates.
Taurus: I saw it once in a play. Worth a shot.
Taurus: Perhaps Eben is right.
Taurus draws his longsword and leans against the stone wall, listening. He uses the pommel to tap it several times, listening for a hollow.
Vexin Sixtoes pulls out a sack of things gathered from other companion's sacks and rummages through it
Vexin Sixtoes: Oh Eeeeben!
Gilthanas shivers as he bundles his clock closer to himself
Eben looks at the kender
Vexin Sixtoes stands on Skitter's back and plops the helm from Skullcap on Eben's head
Vexin Sixtoes: No more stupidity will escape now!
Vexin Sixtoes rolls on the ground laughing
Vexin Sixtoes: You look like a dwarf!
Before Eben can react, Vexin plunks the helmet onto Eben's head.
Taurus goes along the wall tapping, not paying much attention to the antics of the Kender. Having learnt, begrudgingly, to zone out his foolishness.
Vexin Sixtoes: Hey Taurus look!
Vexin Sixtoes: It's a dwarf!
Eben immeadiately bows to everyone in the party.
Vexin Sixtoes giggles uncontrollably
Taurus: Thats nice Vexin...
Vexin Sixtoes mock-bows in return
Taurus doesn't look, commenting over his shoulder.
Eben: I am Grallen, prince of the mountain dwarves, killed by the forces of evil in the Dwarfgate War. By means of this magical helm, I have survived these centuries that my tale and fate may be told. I rode forth on the morning of the last battle in the great charge of Hylar dwarves. We came from the Northgate of Thorbardin across the Plain of Dergoth. My troop assaulted the mountain home of the Dark Wizard here. My brothers fought with courage and valor; many fell at my side.
Vexin Sixtoes 's jaw drops
Vexin Sixtoes: He IS a dwarf!
Taurus slooowwwllly turns and looks at Eben.
Vexin Sixtoes: I was wrong about no more stupidity escaping
Vexin Sixtoes laughs quietly
Eben: When the tide of battle turned in our favor, I pressed forward, determined to confront the wizard in his lair, but I was cut down from behind before I could reach the fortress. Kharas found my body and returned it to Thorbardin, but my helm, in which my spirit remained trapped, was later discovered by dard dwarves loyal to Fistandantilus and brought to the chamber in fistandantilus' lair.
Vexin Sixtoes: Nice to meet you Eben-Grallen! I'm Vexin Sixtoes, Dragonslayer extraordinaire!
Taurus takes a moment to recover from the shock before approaching Eben, or Grallen as it would be. He listens to his tale intently, watching closely still unsure if this is some kind of trick or ruse.
Vexin Sixtoes: So... you saw fisticuffs himself?
Eben looks at Vexin, but does not respond
Taurus: Prince Grallen. If you should see us passage into the great halls of Thorbadin, we will return your spirit to rest. I am Taurus Regulus, Knight of the Crown of Solamnia and my word is my bond.
Vexin Sixtoes waves his hand in front of Eben's eyes
Eben reguards Taurus for a moment and then looks around the canyon.
Taurus: These are my companions, much has happened since your passing.
Vexin Sixtoes: We've been finding alot of people... and dragons... lately that seem to think it's the Dwarfgate War
Eben: the entrance lies directly in front of you. It is an... odd sight to see the gates closed. you will be required to open it without the key
Vexin Sixtoes: What key?
Taurus: How can this be made possible? It is shear rock.
Vexin Sixtoes: Everyone keeps yapping about this key that we don't have!
Eben looks to Vexin.
Eben: the key must be in the possesson of those inside...
Vexin Sixtoes: Eh?
Eben turns back to Taurus
Eben: We dwarves are masters of stonewark
Vexin Sixtoes: How do we get inside with the key, if we're on the outside and it's closed?
Taurus: The gate has been closed for some time, none have seen or heard of your kin since the wars.
Taurus nods.
Vexin Sixtoes: I wonder what dwarves eat locked up in a mountain?
Eben: barred doors have never stopped kender before...
Vexin Sixtoes: Pfft1
Vexin Sixtoes: The helm doesn't make him any less rude...
Zhage smirks
Vexin Sixtoes resumes searching the wall of stone
Eben sees Vexin looking and comes to stand beside him.
Eben: here it is, kender.
Vexin Sixtoes: Well if we rest here tonight, I can melt away the stone tomorrow!
Taurus watches quietly, taking note of Eben's actions so he might be able to duplicate them at a later date.
Eben: points to a hairline fracture in the stone that stretches up out of site.
Eben points to a hairline fracture in the stone that stretches up out of site.
Vexin Sixtoes: Does he have to be so patronizing?
Vexin Sixtoes jams a dagger in the fissure
Taurus: Vexin. He is Grallen, prince of Dwarves.
Eben nods to Taurus
Eben: I am.
the dagger glances off the side of the mountain.
Eben: not like that, kender...
Vexin Sixtoes: My name is Vexin!
Taurus: Please, Prince Grallren, would you show us how?
Vexin Sixtoes huffs and puffs in exasperation
Taurus: Vexin, step aside. Calm yourself.
Vexin Sixtoes plops down on the ledge
Eben: There was one trigger that could open it for those powerful enough. scorching flames, as hot as Rerox's forge, could coax the door to open.
Taurus looks towards Zhage. Smiles.
Vexin Sixtoes: I can cast a fire spell, but it may not be strong enough... I can cast a stronger one tomorrow
Taurus: We may have somthing like that.
Vexin Sixtoes: Ooh Zhage can cast better fire spells!
Zhage (quietly): I can try...
Taurus: Everyone, please step back.
Vexin Sixtoes takes cover
Taurus: You too, Prince Grallen. Such spells can be quite devistating.
Eben follows Taurus back to cover down the ledge. You notice that Eben's posture is better than it had been.
Vexin Sixtoes: psst... Eben's walking funny1
Taurus: Prince Grallen, I know you would like to know. Your assault on the Mage's lair was successful, he was slain and nothing but his ghost remains.
Zhage Stands in front of the party and chants his words of magic in the blowing cold of winter. Soon, a spout of flame bursts forth from his fingers and errupts into a ball of flame that splatters across the rock face.
Taurus shields his eyes from the light, glancing to Vexin and nodding some to let the kender know he has seen this.
Vexin Sixtoes: ooh...
You can hear a deep rumbling sound coming from the mountain itself. The ledge and cliff begin to shake as pebbles fall away from the mountain and bounce down into the chasm beside you. With a tremendously loud crack that sounds like a thousand sheets of linen being torn by giants, the mountain itself splits open. A huge, round section of stone, possibly the largest thing you have ever seen moving in your life, rotates out of the rock face like a giant cork. Suddenly, with a great groaning of metal and grinding of stone, it breaks free and falls into the chasm.
Vexin Sixtoes: Oops...
Zhage: oops
Zhage looks to at Vexin with a sheepish shrug
Taurus grips the edge tightly as the whole place shakes. Looking to Vexin, then to Zhage, frowning. He steps forwards towards the opening now quite clear and steps inside, turning back to his companions.
Taurus: We should continue. Prince Grallen, would you be so noble as to guide us to your great halls.
Vexin Sixtoes: Whew! smells stale in there!
Eben walks past the group with utmost certainty and confidence in his stride and into the now gaping hole that is the gate into Thorbardin
Vexin Sixtoes follows eagerly behind
You enter inside and notice that it is pitch black. Eben continues on into the darkness, somehow seeing or knowing where he is going even without light
Taurus looks to his other companions and after seeing them through enters fully himself, speaking a hushed word as he brushes his metal glad fist across his shield. It bursts into light, shining brightly.
Taurus moves up alongside Vexin, keeping his voice low as he speaks to the kender.
Taurus (Whispered): Vexin. You must promise me you will not cause insult to the denizens of this domain. Remember that we are here to seek their aid and they shall not grant it if we are beligerant or rude.
The light from the shield casts shadows in what seems to be a labyrinth of building made of stone. Everything seems to be in a dilapitaed state and there is no sign of life.
Vexin Sixtoes sticks his tongue out, but nods quietly
Taurus (Whispered): Thank you, friend.
You travel farther into the maze of Thorbardin where you come upon an area of the lifeless city that bares The scars of fierce battle streak the walls. The floor is littered with broken shards of pottery and rusted metal. Ancient wagons, their axles broken, litter the major corridors. The skeletons of dwarves and men lie where they died so long ago, clothed in rusted armor and rags, silent witnesses to the terrible conflict that once raged in these halls. Dwarfgate is deserted and everything is in ruins.
Taurus: What happened here...
Eben stops and turns to the group. he looks eeiry in the glow from Taurus' shield
Taurus shakes his head quietly surveying the remains of this once great place. An almost sadness in his eyes at seeing it degrade to such a state whilst reducing the hope of this great bastion still existing down here so many years since their exodus.
Eben: Civil war seems to have occured, but weather it still occurs is yet to be seen. We have much farther to go before we get to The Life Tree of Hylar.
Taurus: I would hope after so long they have settled their differences.
Vexin Sixtoes assumes a dramaticized alert posture, glancing this way and that
Vexin Sixtoes: War!
Taurus: Its ok Vexin, we are safe for now.
You spend an hour walking through the empty streets of the Northgate. Eben leads on, seemingly knowing where he is going.
A vast cavern opens up, spanned by a bridge which leads off into the darkness. The slightest whisper seems to echo endlessly in the black depths. Low stone rails, three feet high, line each side of the wide bridge. The rails are held up by sculptures of small dwarves.
Eben (whisper): Anvil's Echo...
Eben looks around in awe
Taurus pauses for just a moment to admire the sculptures before continueing, peering around the cavenous area. The sounds of his, and his companions, treasure jingling loudly.
Vexin Sixtoes peers over the edge of the rail
looking over the edge, you see nothing but darkness.
As you walk across the bridge, Vexin sees high above you many holes in the ceiling. The holes appear to be dwarven made on not natural
Vexin Sixtoes: The ceiling has cut holes in ot...
Taurus: They're called Murder Holes.
Taurus: Its a defensive structure.
Eben nods to Taurus.
Vexin Sixtoes: ew
Taurus: In times of war they would be manned. Dwarves would fire crossbows or drop rocks and acid on would be invaders.
Vexin Sixtoes: wow
Taurus: Accompanied by the narrowness of the bridge they can be quite effective at mitigating a large assaulting force.
Taurus seems to quote teachings he has recieved, peering around as he admires the strong defencive nature of the architecture.
The bridge stretches on for what seems like forever, but eventually the other side is found.
Suddenly, at the end of the bridge, an armed party of dwarves steps into the corridor before you. The leader steps forward; strength and confidence show in his every move. The large hammer at his side is held loosely but ready.
Dwarven Leader (Rumbles): What business have you strangers among the halls of the Hylar?
Vexin Sixtoes: Hylar = good, right?
Taurus comes to a halt, bowing his head respectively.
Taurus (Whispered): Yes Vexin, Hylar is good. In our case, anyway.
Eben halts but does not bow. He raises his chin slightly
dwarven leader looks at the kender with a glare.
Taurus: Greetings mighty Dwarves of Hylar.
Taurus: We seek to parlay with the Lord of this mountain.
Vexin Sixtoes: Hullo!
Taurus: We bring offerings, respectfully.
Taurus jingles.
dwarven leader: How has it that you outsiders have found your way here into our cities?
Vexin Sixtoes: Our friend... well not really a friend but... anyways, he thinks he's a dwarf
Taurus: We were given permission, from Prince Grallen himself.
some of the dwarves chuckle but the leader raises his hand to scilence them
dwarven leader: You best explain yourself as jokes about the royal family will not be tolerated.
Taurus: During the great battle at Scullcap your Prince fell. Whilst his body was recovered his spirit was not. It was trapped within a helm which was then stolen by those loyal to the dark mage.
Vexin Sixtoes: See fr yourself! He thinks he's dwarf!
Taurus: This helm now rests atop the head of our companion. Through his mouth speaks the spirit of Prince Grallen.
Taurus nods to Eben.
dwarven leader looks at Eben and his eye's widen with surprise
Taurus: I have sworn to return him to his people, to be laid to rest.
Eben blinks a few times before looking around to everyone who is now staring at him. He soon realizes that he is wearing a strange helmet and takes it off in haste. He lowers his eyes in embarassment
dwarven leader narrows his eyes
Taurus brows draw together.
Taurus: Eben?
Eben Looks up to Taurus.
Eben (quietly): yes?
Taurus: Are you alright?
Eben looks around for the first time, obviously not knowing where he is
Taurus nods, hand out to take the helm from him.
Eben: uh... yeah... I guess.
Taurus: I will explain later, friend. The helm, please.
Vexin Sixtoes: hehe Eben was embarassed!
Eben looks at the helmet in his hand and hands it to Taurus quickly.
Taurus steps forward, offering the helm to the leader.
Taurus: The helm of Prince Grallen.
dwarven leader steps forward towards Taurus. His dwarven warriors grip their axes and shift their feet. the leader reaches out to take the helmet
Taurus hands it to him, bowing his head in respect.
dwarven leader examines the helmet carefully before looking up to the party
Taurus: Please ensure the Prince's helm is returned to his remains.
dwarven leader: The Hylar thank you for returning the helm of Prince Grallen to his people.
dwarven leader he attaches the helmet to his belt and looks back at Taurus.
Taurus: Whilst this was a task most important to us, it is not the sole reason for a delve into your domain.
Taurus: We seek urgent audience with your leaders.
Taurus: A great evil has risen that threatens even your kin, in this mighty fortress.
Vexin Sixtoes: Dragons!
Taurus nods to Vexin.
Arman Kharas: I am Arman Kharas, son of Hornfel, King of the Hylar.
Taurus looks shocked, quickly bowing his head.
Arman Kharas: I will take you to my father and the Thanes, but I am on an important mission myself.
Vexin Sixtoes: Hullo! Vexin Sixtoes, Dragonslayer!
Taurus: My apologies, King Kharas. I did not realise I was in the presence of royal blood.
Taurus: What is your mission? If I may be so bold.
Arman Kharas: The Hylar usually avoud Northgate since it is held by the Theiwar dwarves, sworn enemies of the Hylar. However, the Theiwar have captured my half-brother, Pick, and I am searching these halls for him.
Taurus: Civil war still plagues your people?
Arman Kharas: Civil war, no. But it is on the verge of war once more. The Thanes manage to maintain peace, but it grows more difficult with each passing day.
Taurus: This is indeed grave news.
Taurus: The world outside these halls has changed greatly in the last weeks. Those of Thorbadin are all that remain as a bastion of strength with any hope of standing against the Dragon Armies.
Taurus: If your people continue to fight amongst themselves, then hope may indeed be lost. The Dragon Armies shall wipe you all out.
Arman Kharas: We have not heard of these Dragon armies, but I can assure you that with the gate sealed, it will pose difficulty for them to breach out interior. I'm surprised you found the entrance.
Taurus: At the risk of being somewhat presumptious, Prince Kharas.
Taurus: In a mere week, these armies have destroyed not only the plainspeople and those of the civilised lands.
Taurus: They have forced the elves from their homes.
Taurus: I believe even the strength of this mountain will be shook apart by their might if given the time to grow. It is not a threat merely to Ansalon, but the world.
Arman Kharas: Well, until the problems under the mountain can be dealt with, the ones above must wait. I hope that you closed the gate behind you, if this dragon army poses such a threat...
Taurus: The gate is open.
Taurus: We know of no way to close it.
Vexin Sixtoes: The plug popped and dropped
Gilthanas: Vexin is right, sir. I am Gilthanas, prince of the Qualinesti elves. The North gate of Thorbardin has been cast to the bottom of a chasm...
Vexin Sixtoes: You should really build things better if you expect them to last...
Arman Kharas turns to his soldiers.
Arman Kharas: you three, go check on the North Gate. Return to The Life Tree when you confirm what they say. The rest of us shall continue in search for Pick.
Three of the dwarves rush off across the bridge while the remaining dwarves wait with Arman
Taurus: I would like to offer our services in searching for your brother. If only to prevent these hostilities from further escalation.
Taurus: Vexin is a quite capable tracker.
Arman Kharas Extends his hand to Taurus
Taurus takes the arm of Arman in typical Solamnic fashion for a firm shake.
Arman Kharas: I promise, on the Hylar crown, that I will help you with whatever you may need once we find my brother.
Taurus: Then we shall find your brother.
Vexin Sixtoes: I'm an excellent tracker!
Arman Kharas: Your tracking will not be needed. at least not yet, little one. I have an idea of where Pick is being held. Quickly, follow me this way.
Arman Kharas races back across the bridge spanning Anvil's Echo.
Vexin Sixtoes follows along
Taurus steps aside for the dwarf to pass him before following quickly.
Leads the group through a maze of different streets than what you took before. This time, you walk into a court yard. In the center is a large platform with massive chains on each cornor rising up into the darkness.
Arman Kharas steps up onto the platform and beckons everyone else to do the same
Vexin Sixtoes steps up
Arman Kharas Arman Kharas steps up onto the platform and beckons everyone else to do the same
Vexin Sixtoes steps up
Taurus follows the dwarf, stepping up onto the platform.
Once everyone is on the platform, one of Arman's warrior's grasps a rusted lever. He heaves it forward and the platform lurches, with rusted squeaks as it sinks slowly downward.
Taurus: Prince Kharas. How many Dwarves call this mountain home?
Arman Kharas: There are six members on the dwarven council, the Thanes. Each is the leader or king of a clan. Most of the clans are at least 300,000 strong, if not more. Thorbardin has numerous cities within it's kingdom.
Vexin Sixtoes: Ooooooh
Taurus eyes widen some, not having expected such a large population. He nods slowly concidering the numbers, running statistics in his head.
Taurus: And of the 300,000 per clan, how many are battle ready?
Vexin Sixtoes: 2... no more than 2
Vexin Sixtoes giggles
Taurus looks at Vexin oddly.
Vexin Sixtoes: That's what the Guly Dwarves would say
Taurus: Ahh, I see!
Taurus laughs.
Arman Kharas: Most dwarves are citizens, but with the tension of civil war, we have more than usual. The Hylar have an army of skilled soldiers 50,000 strong.
Vexin Sixtoes: While they hold up 10 fingers
Arman Kharas groans at the metion of gully dwarves.
Taurus: That is a great number.
Taurus: An army of 300,000 strong with militia...
Taurus speaks mostly to himself.
Arman Kharas: The Hylar has the largest dwarven army of any of the clans, with the exception of the Daewar
Taurus: Would they unite under one flag if there was a common threat?
Vexin Sixtoes: How big is the Gully Dwarf army?
Vexin Sixtoes grins
Arman Kharas frowns.
Taurus looksat Vexin.
Taurus: 2, likely, Vexin.
Vexin Sixtoes laughs hysterically
Vexin Sixtoes: No more than 2
Arman Kharas: it is possible. The Hylar, Daewar, and Klar genrally work together now, anyways. The Theiwar and the Daegar are opposed to the other clans.
Taurus: I am sure when they see what I h ave to say, they can be persuaded.
Taurus says quite confident. Odd, really, in the face of dwarven stubborness and century old grudges.
The lift slowly comes to a halt and this level of the Northgate city looks very similar to the one above.
Arman Kharas raises a finger to his mouth.
Taurus looks to Arman, then to Vexin, to make sure the Kender saw the gesture.
Arman Kharas (whisper): the Theiwar will be in greater number down here.
Vexin Sixtoes mimicks the gesture
Taurus nods.
Taurus (Whispered): Aye. I do not wish to engage our future allies. We shall air on the side of caution and stealth.
Arman Kharas begins to lead the small rescue party through the maze of streets. Almost immediately, he halts as you here the sound of dwarven voices coming from a side street up ahead.
Taurus hides jinglejingleCRASHjingle
Arman Kharas glances in alarm at the noise the knight is making
A very large contingent of dwarves walk around the cornor toward another side street. These dwarves look like no other you've seen; their skin is a pale white and their hair matches their skin colour. Their eyes seem to have a strange white philm over them.
as the walk past, a few near the back look in the direction of where you are hiding. They pause and begin to walk toward you.
Taurus does his best to hide, finding it very awkward to stay still and quiet so heavily ladden. Leaning against the wall of a side street to help with the weight.
Arman Kharas signals for everyone to try and conceal themselves even better before the Thiewar are upon them
One of the dwarves walks toward a smashed barrel that Taurus tries to crouch behind, and by the expression on the pale dwarf's face, he has clearly noticed the trespasser
Taurus takes a short breath, then stands to reveal an open hand.
Taurus: Greetings, stranger.
Thiewar raises his axe.
Taurus makes a gestures behind his back to his companions, for them to stay hidden.
Thiewar: halt!
Taurus: Aye.
he sais it loudly enough for those nearby to hear
Taurus bows his head respectfully.
Taurus: I am Taurus Regulus, Knight of the Crown.
Taurus: I am here to seek out the Lord of this Mountain.
Thiewar: Drop your weapons!
Taurus unbuckles his weapon belt, lowering it carefully to the ground.
Taurus: I come in peace friend.
two more Thiewar come forward and train their crossbows on Taurus
Taurus: I come bearing the good name of Rerrox.
Vexin Sixtoes pops up, and translates
Vexin Sixtoes: Hullo!
One of the crossbowmen turns his attention to the kender
Thiewar (to Vexin): drop your weapon!
More Thiewar see the commotion and begin to head towards the group
Vexin Sixtoes: My walking stick? ok...
Taurus: We seek an audience with your leader.
Vexin Sixtoes backs up 5' diagonal to Taurus and continues translating
Taurus: The Gate is open and a great threat overshadows Thorbardin.
Thiewar: You come with us now. No fuss, and you may live
Taurus: Indeed. We mean you no hostility.
Taurus steps forward, hand still open.
Vexin Sixtoes looks to Arman
Taurus: The Gods bless those who continue in their search for their brothers.
The crossbowmen lower their guard slightly with the cooperating knight. As one of the Thiewar approaches Taurus to grab his weapons on the ground, Arman gives out a startling battle cry as he and his nine Hylar warriors charge past with their weapon's raised high. He shouts as he passes Taurus.
Taurus smiles, inclining his head. His message more for those still hidden.
Taurus blinks as Arman and the Hylar rush past, eyes widening.
Taurus: No!
Arman Kharas: Dispatch these ones here, we will take the renforcments!
Vexin Sixtoes begins to change into a Leopard and cast a spell
Taurus: Cease! Enough of your kins blood has been spilt by your own hand!!
Taurus cries out in frustration, no doubt his voice unheard over the clash of battle.
Tierwester: why not? A house divided will fall, and we want a stable place for these refugees ;-)
Tierwester
Tierwester peeks the side of his head from around the corner, just below the roof of the building. His one visible eyebrow is slanted into a scowl.
Tierwester raises an arm out from cover, black and blue arcane energy coalescing into the palm before rocketing out towards the rightmost dwarf.
The magical energy splashes into the cobblestone street at the dwarf's feet
Tierwester quickly disappears behind the building once more.
Gilthanas' sidesteps out and fires his bow at the dwarf behind the crate
The arrow slices the dwarf's shoulder as it grazes past
Vexin Sixtoes
Taurus tilts his head as the energy lurches past him followed by several arrows. Frowning deeply at how quickly this situation is esculating.
Taurus: Retreat and we shall not persue. Attack and I will be forced to defend myself and my companions.
Zhage
Zhage, seeing that the rest of the group is engaging in the fight, launches off some magic missles.
THe three missles blast into the dwarf nearest to Taurus.
Eben rushes to Taurus' side with his rapier drawn. He awaits to see how the Thiewar reacts to Taurus' offer
Taurus
Taurus grips his shield tightly, but stays steady though defencive. Forcing the Thiewar to make the first move. (AC27)
Taurus: Please. Do not do this.
Leopard (Vexin) shifts into Leopard form, then immediately he and Skitters both seem to morph again gaining tusks, and boar-like features
The dwarf standing in front of Taurus rises his battleaxe.
Thiewar: Allied with the Hylar scum! Die!
Eben lunges at the dwarf as he raises his axe
Taurus has a sadness in his eyes before he steels himself against the incoming blow.
The rapier sinks deep into the dwarf's skin, but the axe still swings down onto Taurus
The axe slams into the knight's shield, almost knocking it from the knight's grip
Taurus: Urggh!
Tierwester:
The two dwarves with crossbows fire their bolts at the beastly kender/panther/bore like creature
Both bolts whistle past, although one comes close to hitting the agile panther
Leopard (Vexin) growls
The dwarves battling up the street, the Hylar seem to be getting the upper hand on the Thiewar
Tierwester
Tierwester moves his gaze briefly upwards to survey the roof of the building, before turning his attention back to the dwarves on the ground.
The roof slopes upward to a peak and then slopes back down on the other side. Nothing on this side is of interest, but you cannot see the other side of the slope
Tierwester peeks his upper torso from the corner's cover once again, dark cobalt lightning streaking outwards.
The glowing blue lighting courses through the dwarf's body and he collapses to the ground in a violent shake
Tierwester sneers, disappearing from the corner.
Gilthanas drops his bow and strides forth in an effort to plunge the blade into the Thiewar's torso
The dwarf swings his axe up to meet the attack, blocking it with the shaft of the weapon
Vexin Sixtoes
Leopard (Vexin) scampers around Gilthanas, biting the nearest dwarf's leg
Zhage
Zhage fires his crossbow at the nearest dwarf
The bolt lodges into the dwarf's shoulder.
Eben thrusts the rapier forward again
The rapier bites into the forearm of the Thiewar
Taurus
Taurus keeps a tight grip on his shield before leaning down to carefully pick up his sword belt. (Full Def AC 27 still)
The dwarf tries to hit the knight as he bends over
The axe clips the top of the shield but the attack does not get through
The other dwarf drops his crossbow and attacks the panther with his axe
The panther dodges to the side as the axe clunks loudly into the cobblestone
The hylar fell a number of the Thiewar again as some begin to flee. The Hylar give chase
Tierwester
Tierwester peeks out once more, his arcane barrage continuing.
The bolt soars off into darkness.
Tierwester sinks backwards once more.
Gilthanas lunges his sword forward
The sword sinks between two ribs of the Thiewar.
Vexin Sixtoes
It's hard to gauge how much blood Skitter's has drained as he is already pale. He still stands, but on wobbly feet
The Theiwar captain is mauled to death as the panther pounces on him and brings him to the ground
Tierwester (muttering): Ignorant dwarves.
Leopard (Vexin) savagely rips the Dwarf Captain limb from limb, then growls at the last one standing
Eben moves forward and thrusts the rapier on the remaining dwarf.
The rapier slides through the dwarf's throat. THe dwarf slides off the rapier's blade and falls to the ground
You see off in the distance, Arman and his Hylar dwarves cut down the fleeing Thiewar
Taurus rushes forward to kneel beside the fallen dwarf, attempting to stabalize him.
Thiewar walks back to the group with his warriors.
Arman Kharas walks back to the group with his warriors.
Arman Kharas (Scowl): what are you doing!
Taurus looks up towards Arman briefly, then back down to the fallen Thiewar. Placing pressure on the neck wound trying to stem the flow of blood.
Tierwester quickly appears behind Taurus, moving to his side and passively inspecting the dwarf as Taurus attempts to administer first aid.
Taurus: Trying to save this dwarf's life.
Tierwester (turning to Arman): There is no harm in saving him for interrogation.
Arman Kharas: He is the enemy. Do you think he would do the same for you!?
Arman Kharas: we don't need him for interrogation.
Taurus glances towards Tierwester briefly, then back to Arman. Reaching to the symbol around his own neck, he grips it and with his hand over the dwarf's throat he closes his eyes and says a prayer.
Tierwester (crossing his arms, frowning): If I have the choice between saving a life and staring at my feet, I'll save it unless there's a reason not to.
Tierwester moves to another dwarf, checking if he's alive.
Taurus: Jolith grants respect to both the victors and the fallen in battle.
Arman Kharas: You are all outsiders. For that, you will not be punished for your ignorance, and for that alone.
Tierwester scoffs, inspecing another downed dwarf.
Leopard (Vexin) rolls his panther eyes, as his form shifts back to that of a "normal" Leopard
Tierwester looks over the other dwarves and finds that they have perished.
Taurus stands slowly, steping forward to stand eye to eye with Arman. Or best one can with a dwarf. Seeming rather calm and collected as he speaks in hushed tones.
Taurus (Whispered): With all due respect, Prince Kharas, you have a lot to learn about ignorance. This dwarf can tell us where your brother is and as far as I am concerned, every Hyler or Thiewar alike that dies is one less allie against the Dragon Armies.
Tierwester shakes his head, standing from the last dwarf and moving to Taurus' side, arms crossed.
Arman Kharas: Do not be so foolish to think that the Thiewar will help you. You have been here for less than a day. You do not know. The Thiewar are an evil and cunning clan, who will do at nothing to get power. That power lies within the seat of the High King. They will not ally with you unless you can offer them this postion
Tierwester: Hatred is a not a tool, Kharas, it is a lock on many doors through which you might otherwise wish to tread.
Taurus: They will fight for their own survival, and perhaps that is enough. You all must learn that you shall either stand united, or die divided. There is no glory in a death with your hands around your siblings throat.
Arman Kharas: I agree with you. The words you speak are wise, but do not think that my actions are out of hatred. What conspired here today was needed. They would have killed you and robbed you blind, rest assured.
Taurus: However, now is not the time for philosophies. We must find your brother.
Tierwester (nodding): And that is why I slew them along side you, Kharas. What is our next course of action?
Arman Kharas nods to Tierwester and to Taurus.
Taurus lowers down to the fallen dwarf, removing his waterskin to splash it lightly on his face to wake him up.
The Thiewar slowly stirs, his eyes open a crack
Taurus: Do not struggle Thiewar, you will only cause further harm to yourself.
Arman Kharas: We must go this way. It will take us to the prison in which I think Pick is being held
Leopard (Vexin) growls at the Theiwar
Thiewar: Wha-- ?
Taurus: You are a prisoner of battle, and as such have rights. You have the right to food and water, adequite sustainance. You will not be tortured and your health will be cared for.
Taurus: In return, you will offer us one piece of information.
Thiewar sees Arman and his face turns into a scowl, tinged with pain
Taurus: Where is Pick Kharas being held?
There is no magical items around other than Arman's armor and his warhammer
Thiewar: I don't know what you are talking about.
Arman Kharas: This is a waste of time. You can sit here and play diplomat all you like. I know that Pick is held this way.
Taurus: Arman Kharas believes that the Thiewar have captured his brother, Pick. You will tell us where he is held.
Taurus looks up to Arman, then back to Thiewar.
Thiewar: If we had Pick, he wouldn't be alive!
Arman Kharas: Liar!
Arman Kharas places his boot across the Thiewar's neck
Taurus: As you can see we possess a force far superior to your regular patrols. Should we encounter further of them there will be more fatalaties. With your assistance that can be avoided.
Tierwester kneels down besides the downed Thiewar, spreading the fingers on his hand and holding it a few feet over his face as it crackles with arcane energy.
Tierwester Tell us where your forces are.
Arman Kharas: Taurus, this is your prisoner. You can do as you like with him, but the second that he jepordizes my mission, he will die.
Tierwester: Tell us where your forces are in relation to where we are gonig.
Taurus: Aye Prince Kharas, he is my responcibility.
You are not sensing decipt in Arman's actions but the Thiewar maybe lying.
Taurus: However, if he continues to lie to me I may be forced to hand him over to you and your kin.
Tierwester: You are lieing. What forces are guarding Pick. Tell me or I shal kill you presently.
Arman Kharas: Then lets go. I strongly urge you to dispose of this prisoner
Taurus looks to the the Thiewar sympathetically.
Tierwester moves his hand closer to the dwarf's face as black smoke begins intertwining itslef in his fingers.
Leopard (Vexin) growls from behind them
Taurus: Gilthanas, can you please secure our prisoners hands with rope and gag him.
The Thiewar remains scilent
Gilthanas Comes forward and secures the dwarf
Taurus: Thank you.
Tierwester (looking up to Taurus): We cannot burden ourselves with a prisoner. (looking down at the dwarf) Especially one that will not talk.
Tierwester (looking up to Taurus): We cannot burden ourselves with a prisoner. (looking down at the dwarf) Especially one that will not talk.
Taurus: What do you suggest?
Arman Kharas: We waste time. we must leave now.
Taurus: We cannot release him, nor spare the escort back to the dwarves.
Tierwester (flaring the arcane energy wreathing his hand): I'll handle it.
Tierwester (standing): Taurus, I suggest you start gonig.
Tierwester: I don't want you to see this.
Taurus sighs, looks to the dwarf as he starts to head off.
Taurus: This is your last chance friend...
the Thiewar snears at you
Arman Kharas: puts his arm on Taurus' shoulder.
Arman Kharas puts his arm on Taurus' shoulder.
Taurus looks to Arman.
Arman Kharas: come on, lad. This is what's best. We cheated the Thiewar of an honourable death in battle. lets leave it at this
Taurus: Tierwester. Leave him. His death shant be on my conscience.
Taurus nods to Arman.
Taurus: Aye. Lets go.
Tierwester (nodding): Yes. I'll catch up with you I'm going to search the bodies real quick.
Taurus: Aye, but be quick.
Arman walks off leaving Tierwester to "search" the bodies.
Taurus follows behind Arman, securing his belt at his waist once more. Keeping on the look ot for more guards.
Tierwester pauses a moment until they are out of sight. His face is lit up with a blue glow as blue-black energy surges into the downed dwarf who spasms violently before expiring.
Tierwester looks around briefly before departing with an accelerated stride to catch up with his companions.
You travel through the streets of North Gate, the going is much slower as Arman takes extra percautions to avoid Thiewar patrols.
Taurus: I apologise for my disobedience Prince Kharas, but from where I am from there are laws governing combat I cannot ignore; even down here.
Taurus: I hope you understand.
Arman Kharas: Don't worry, lad. We dwarves may be set in our ways, but we know that your intentions are good. We won't judge you poorly on your actions you took this day.
Leopard (Vexin) silently stalks next to Arman as they travel
Arman motions for quiet and signals the heroes to follow him. He creeps to the corner of an intersection and stops. From around the corner, you can clearly hear dwarven voices shouting.
Dwarven voice (shouting): Quiet in there, or Ill come in and give you something to gripe about, you Hylar slime!
Taurus stops far back from the end of the corridor, knowing how loud he is.
Leopard (Vexin) peeks around the corner
Tierwester raises an eyebrow at the strange shout.
Arman Kharas (whisper): look there.
Taurus creeps up *jinglejingle*.
you see that ahead, there are five cells. They are being guarded by a force of nearly a dozen Theiwar. Arman motions to another group of guards a few dozen yards off, guarding another area of cells.
Tierwester places a hand against the wall beside him, pausing for a moment to take one last surveilliance of his sorroundings from the perspective of the ground before beginning to unnaturally climb up the wall.
Taurus peers between the two groups. Nodding somewhat as he backs down a bit before whispering.
Taurus (Whispered): Reinforcements can't be far away.
Arman Kharas (whisper): Taurus, you take your men and attack this nearer cell. I will circle around with my warriors and engage the other group. Pick will be inside one of these cells.
Tierwester climbs to the corner between the wall and ceiling, crouching into it like a spider waiting for its prey.
Taurus (Whispered): Aye. We can't be more than a minute or two, or else we'll get swarmed. Rendezous at that old smith we passed 10 minutes ago.
Arman Kharas nods.
Arman Kharas: do not be late. We cannot afford to save you from capture..
Arman Kharas gives a slight smile
Taurus places a hand on Arman's shoulder, giving him a grin.
Taurus: Jolith protect you, Prince. And give you strength.
Taurus casts Bull Strength on Arman.
Arman Kharas (Muffled shout): this way, men!
Arman and his dwarves rush down a side street and out of sight
Taurus bends a knee in a quick prayer, Bless. Just as the dwarves are leaving. Giving everyone +1 tohit and saves vs fear.
Tierwester skitters into the closest safe vantage point from his corner perch, gritting his teeth and steeling himself for battle.
Taurus (Whispered): Ready?
Taurus looks between his companions.
Tierwester (a harsh whisper): Go already!
Taurus casts enlarge person on himself, growing steadily to over 12ft tall. Then, drawing his sword, he lumbers out straight for the group of dwarves. Not the most subtle approach, but, effective.
Leopard (Vexin) pounces on the nearest most powerful looking opponent
Taurus:
Eben draws his rapier and moves around the side street, looking to flank the enemy
Taurus
Taurus places his hand in a fist over his breast, letting out a loud cry in the honor of Kiri-Jolith. Seeming to suddenly bulk up, eyes glowing a hot white. He then strides right out into the open street, drawing his longsword. (divine power)
The Thiewar all look in shock as the giant surges forward. They quickly draw their weapons and prepare for battle
Vexin Sixtoes
Tierwester:
Leopard (Vexin) casts Body of the Sun as he moves into charging position
Tierwester
Tierwester shows himself from the top of the building, snapping his arm and releasing a stream of baelfire towards the enemy closest to the foutain.
Tierwester falls to the ground, taking cover from their sight on the roof.
The baelfire crackles across the dwarfs body as he grunts in pain
Zhage
Zhage follows eben up the side of the building
The Thiewar dwarves surge forward with their battleaxes while some send a volley of crossbow bolts towards the group
Taurus takes a big sweeping swing of his longsword, the huge blade glistening as it slices through the air and the dwarf.
AS the dwarf rushs forward, Taurus slices the head clean off. It soars through the air and lands with a splash into the dirty water of the fountain
four of the dwarves launch a volley of bolts at Taurus. Three more are fired at the Leopard.
The bolts seem to hit everything around the two, but none land on their mark.
Taurus braces himself against the incoming fire as they scatter about him and off his shield. *tinktinktinktink*
Gilthanas rushes forward into the fray
Eben rushes from his cover toward an unsuspecting dwarf
The rapier pierces the skin of the dwarf
Taurus
Taurus takes a step to the side, throwing his shadow over Vexin and Skitters. Bringing the longsword around in deep sharp slices towards the captain; to cut the head off the snake.
The captain takes the massive slash but blood splatters out of the wound.
Vexin Sixtoes
As quickly as the captain entered battle, he falls from the barrage of attacks. His troops look on with shock
Leopard (Vexin) roars and surveys the battle
Tierwester
Tierwester pops up, arcane energy arcing towards the captain.
The dwarf stumbles as he is blasted with energy. He screeches in pain but tries to move on
Zhage
Tierwester ducks down into cover once again.
Zhage steps forward and launchs a ball of flame, engulfing the three dwarves farthest from the action
The stench of burning flesh is almost as sickening as the gut wrenching screams heard by the burning dwarfs. One of the dwarves is blackened as his hair burns. He stumbles out from cover revealing his brunt flesh
The dwarves look to be on the verge of panic, but the manage to stay for the fight... for now
One of the dwarves swings his axe at the giant, Taurus
The swing misses
The two dwarves on the roof reload their crossbows
One attacks Eben
Eben dodges to the side, the axe smashes into the side of the buidling
The last dwarf rushes towards Zhage, his axe held high over his head
Gilthanas looks on with disgust at the burnt dwarf in front of him. He moves forward and puts the wretched creature out of his misery
Eben thrusts the blade forward toward the dwarf
The dwarf blocks the attack
Taurus
Taurus lifts his sword up high and plunges it down at the dwarf before him.
The sword ridges along the dwarf's spine. Blood and bone fly everywhere when the sword is pulled free. The dwarf crumples to the ground
Vexin Sixtoes
Taurus lumbers forward, throwing the dwarf off the length of his sword as he peers around for the cell doors.
Leopard (Vexin) deftly dashes through the room, latching onto the Theiwar's throat
Skitters slips as he goes for the throat like his master, glancing off the dwarven armor
Tierwester
Tierwester stands, placing his right foot forward on the crest of the roof. He raises his hand to the heavens as baelfile crackles wildly.
Tierwester (shouting loudly): Flee, fools! Hahahaha! Flee before you ALL PERISH!
Tierwester looses his arcane fury upon the left dwarf on the building.
Taurus peers around the building to see the dwarf approaching on Zhage and one attacking Eben. Blood dripping from the end of the huge longsword, eyes glowing a bright white, holy white.
THe baelfire ripples over the dwarfs body. He almost drops his crossbow, but manages to hang on
Zhage
Flicks his wrist up and with the utterance of magic, glowing bolts fly forward into the dwarf's chest
The dwarf staggers back and howls in pain. He runs short of breath but moves in onto the mage
The axe glances off the skull of Zhage, blood gushes from his brow and into his eyes.
The dwarf tries to strike Eben
Taurus (Booming Voice): Zhage!
The axe slips from his hands
the dwarf attacks Skitters in the alley way
Skitters growls
The dire weasel is far to agile for the slow dwarf, and leaps to the side, easily avoiding the attack
Skitters licks the dwarf's hand and drools as he tastes the flesh pass by
THe dwarf facing off with the leopard drops his bow and and attacks with his axe
The remaining dwarves make their meager attacks and try to flee when they see that they are futile. The dwarf on Zhage seems intent to stay, not seeing Tierwester's display earlier
As the dwarf turns to flee, the leopard sinks his teeth into the dwarf's juggular
Gilthanas runs towards the captain's corpse, looking for keys to the cells
Eben runs after the fleeing dwarf, trying to stop him from escape
He thrusts the rapier in the dwarf's back but the dwarf still runs
Taurus
Taurus lumbers around the corner of the building, tightening his grip on the longsword in his plated fist. A heroic surge of speed as he rounds the corner, before making two very direct slashes at the dwarf that opened up Zhages brow.
The dwarf spins at the last second to have the long sword cleave him down the middle, his skull splits into two, the blade carrying on through his chest and belly, and then out again at the crotch.
Vexin Sixtoes
Skitters engulfs the dwarf in fire as he licks more blood from the gaping wound
the dwarf spins around in a panic as the flaming weasel sucks the life out of him
Tierwester
Tierwester hustles to the other edge, surveying the scene with a grimace coupled with strategic application of magical lethality.
The application of magical lethality smashes the building into a pulp
Zhage
Zhage stumbles against the wall as he wipes blood from his eyes
Between the two attackers, the dwarf falls flat on his face, skinning his cheek against the cobblestone
Leopard (Vexin) bounces on the corpse after ripping the scalp from the skull in the fall
As the battlefield clears, skitters brings the final Thiewar to the ground in a flaming heap of blood draining goodness
Taurus: Check the cells. I'll help Zhage.
Gilthanas rushes to the cell and begins to unlock each one and looking inside for any prisoners
Taurus kneels beside Zhage, resting his blooded sword at his feet before reaching across to touch his face.
Leopard (Vexin) once again loses the aspects of a boar
Taurus: Jolith rejuvinates those who fight valiantly.
The big gash on Zhage's forehead seals shut. Zhage wipes the blood from his face and looks around the battlefield
Zhage: thanks
Zhage gives Taurus a pat on the shoulder
Taurus eyes soften and revert to their original colour, bulking down some also though still remaining 12ft tall and heavily built. He rises, taking up his longsword and wiping blood from it.
Taurus: Lets get the prisoners and go before reinforcements arrive.
As Gilthanas opens up the cells, you find inside a number of Hylar dwarves inside
Taurus: Hylar, arm yourselves with the fallen's weapons. Ignore the armor. We're moving out!
Eben: This one looks sick!
Eben points to a dwarf lying on a bench in a cold sweat
Taurus approaches, looking to Eben, then to the one who he is refering to. He approaches the dwarf, resting a hand on his brow and checking him over.
Hylar: he is dying of the wasting death...
Taurus: It is a disease?
Hylar: yes. I'm afraid their is no saving him.
Taurus: Have faith my friend, there is always hope.
Taurus kneels beside the bed, closing his eyes. He curls his fingers around the amulet about his neck tightly and places his hand inches above the dwarf's brow. Whispering quiet prayers, barely audable, creating a white glow from about his gauntlet.
Taurus continues in quiet prayer, strands of darkness mixing with the white as though being drawn out of the sick dwarf; dissapating as though burnt by a holy heat. (Remove disease baby)
Tierwester crosses his arms, observing from the back.
The dwarf's flesh returns to a rosey hue and the viens that seemed so close to the surface of his skin receed back down. The dwarf rises with a start and looks around at his surroundings. The other dwarves look on, awestruck
Hylar: How... how did you do that!?
Taurus smiles to the recovered dwarf, patting his shoulder. Standing, he offers him his hand to guide him to his feet. Looking to the one who spoke.
Taurus: I am but an instrument for the Gods.
Taurus: It is through their will your comrad rises.
Tierwester smirks.
Eben Sticking his head into the cell.
Eben: quickly, It looks as though Arman disptached his foes and is heading to the meeting spot
Taurus: Aye Eben.
Taurus: Lets move out.
Taurus turns and lumbers out of the cell, shrinking down to his normal height as he does. Its one thing to be a big loot whoring jingling plate wearing knight; its another to be twice your size.
Taurus: Do any of you know where Pick is?
You come upon the old mill that was indicated as the meeting place. You see running down the street is Arman and his few warriors along with several freed prisoners.
Leopard (Vexin): You'e late!
pick: I am Pick. Who are you. We thank you for our rescue, ireguardless
Leopard (Vexin) growls happily
Taurus: I am Taurus Regulus, Knight of the Crown of Solamnia. These are my companions. We were asked to assit in your freeing by your brother.
Taurus: Here he comes now...
Taurus nods in the distance.
Arman Kharas: Pick!
Tierwester remains silent.
pick: Arman...
Arman Kharas (to everyone): We must hurry. The Thiewar will be on us like a pack of dogs any moment. It will be much more difficult to get out of here than it was to get in...
Arman Kharas gives a glance to the party, a nod of thankyou to each of you.
Taurus: Aye. Lead the way Arman, we'll come up the rear.
Arman rushes back down a street towards the lift...
