Brigalth makes his way down the road towards Solace. It has been a long time since you've been back to
Solace. You had traveled to the north lands with Taurus Regulus, but soon parted after a few jobs together in
Solamnia.
Off in the distance, you can see the tree-top town of Solace. Just as the smile crosses your face, you
here footsteps from behind you.
Hawkeye walks up to the figure on the road in front of him
BrigalthPospros turns around and see...
Hawkeye: Brigalth? Is that you?
BrigalthPospros: Hawk..eye?
Hawkeye: It's been a long time. I thought you had left Solace for good to go do merc work?
BrigalthPospros: I had, but wouldn't you know, my sister ended up moving there. Thought I would pay her
a visit, and master Ironfeld too.
Hawkeye nods
Hawkeye: Well, shall we make the trip in together then?
BrigalthPospros: Aye, why not
The bushes off to your left rustle. Suddenly, dark shapes scurry from the woods on both sides of the
road. Their yellow-green skin pales against their heavy black armor; their twisted faces glare from the evening darkness.
They crouch in a large circle around you, well beyond sword range. A stout pony climbs up onto the road, ridden by a flabby
figure who appears similar to, though larger than, those that surround you. The rider turns his head toward you.
Goblin Rider: Onyx demands the Blue Crystal Staff! Forfeit the Staff now or die!
Hawkeye: Blue Crystal Staff? What the heck are you talking about?
BrigalthPospros: Blue Crystal Staff, silly wretch, what are you babbling about?
Hawkeye moves his hand towards his weapons
Mcgarnagle: Goblin rider
Mcgarnagle: Goblin rider
BrigalthPospros palms the scythe on his back
goblin rider: Insolent fools. We'll just take the staff from your dead bodies!
The goblin Rider wheels his horse around and trots down the road, allowing his hobgoblin warriors to
block his retreat
Hawkeye
Hawkeye draws his weapons and rushes towards the middle hobgoblin, blocking his path to the
rider
The scimatar and handaxe both hit there marks, the scimitar biting in extra deep
The hobgoblin collapses as blood gushes out of his wounds. the other hobgoblins look at each other
uneasy
Undeterredm the hobgoblin advances towards Hawkeye at the same time as his fellow soldier
Both hobgoblins long swords go swinging by as the agile ranger dodges the blows skillfully
the remaining three hobgoblins decend upon Brigg
Two of the longswords miss there mark, but the third cuts deep into Brigg's shoulder
BrigalthPospros reels in pain
BrigalthPospros
The scythe slashes into the hobgoblins chest.
The hobgoblin sprawls to the ground, kicking up dust.
Hawkeye
Hawkeye thrusts towards the belly of the hobgoblin to his right
You hear the blade pierce the armor, fresh blood spills out.
The hobgoblin gasps and holds his belly, but grimaces past the pain
Hawkeye seeing the hobgoblin still standing, he bring shis axe around aiming to finish it off
The axe fells the wounded hobgoblin, it's head rolls through the dusty road to a stop
The hobgoblin brings his sword down towards Hawkeye
The blade slashes into Hawkeyes wrist.
Hawkeye winces in pain briefly before bringing his mind to focus again
The other two hobgoblins advance towards the Scythe wielding merc
Both hobgoblins miss the skilled fighter and one, in his haste, fumbles with his sword, dropping
it.
BrigalthPospros
BrigalthPospros: Notices an opportunity, and slashes with full force at his bewildered
opponent(#6)
The hobgoblin dodges out of the way, taking extra percautions to avoid being struck without a
weapon
Hawkeye
Hawkeye spins around towards the hobgoblin that struck him, swining his scimitar with full force at
it's head
The hobgoblin gurggles a laugh at the poor aimed attack
Hawkeye anger more by his miss than the hobgoblins laughing, he swings his axe at it as well
the axe strikes true, and the hobgoblin quickly stops laughing
The hobgoblin remains on his feet, but is prepared to retort with his own attack
The hobgoblin swings his sword around at the ranger.
The swing misses horribly.
the other two hobgoblins attack Brigg
The hobgoblin standing to Briggs left sticks his sword deep into the man's shoulder
BrigalthPospros
BrigalthPospros Nearly doubles over in pain
BrigalthPospros and in fury retaliates with a horizontal slash at the hobgoblin
The scythe slashes into the hobgoblins leg
He limps at from the attack but raises his sword to attack again
Hawkeye
Hawkeye: Brigalth, are you alright?
Hawkeye swings his scimitar at the hobgobling in front of him, concern in his voice
BrigalthPospros: Gah, i've seen worse...
The hobgoblin's arm flies from his body and he collapses into a ball
Hawkeye turns and throws his handaxe at the one next to Brigalth
The axe impales itself into the chest, but amazingly the hogoblin still stands
BrigalthPospros: bloody gobby!...gah...
The axe vibrates as it shakes itself loose from the flesh and returns to Hawkeye's hand!
The hobgoblin brings his sword down upon Brig
BrigalthPospros looks on in awe
The hobgoblin misses, amazed at the magical axe!
the other hobgoblin moves towards the ranger.
The sword slashes deep into the rangers side.
BrigalthPospros
Hawkeye cries out sharply
BrigalthPospros carefully aims his scythe and brings it down vertically towared the weakened
hobgoblin
The scythe slashes downward, splitting the hobgoblins skull in two
BrigalthPospros spins around as fast as he can, trying to hit the scumsucking monster trying to attack
his backside
You cleave the poor creature in two at the waist, it's top and bottom half sail through the air a few
feet away.
Hawkeye looks at Brigalth with newfound respect, somewhat awed by the damage dealt
BrigalthPospros: Agh!, No Less than they deserve, attacking us on the road like that!
Hawkeye: Aye, I agree. That was a mighty feat though!
BrigalthPospros retrieves a small cloth and wipes his scythe clean, then puts it away
Hawkeye repeats the gesture, putting his own weapons away
Hawkeye: Well, I guess we should mvoe on to Solace and report this
Hawkeye: Hobgoblins attacking passerbyers.
BrigalthPospros: Yeah, I agree, that was kinda odd
BrigalthPospros: Well, you weren't no slouch either, and wherever did ya find such a handy
axe?
BrigalthPospros: That was a new trick, it was
Hawkeye: Well, despite the fact that I think the shaman magic is going to doom my tribesman, they're
spells come in handy form time to time
Hawkeye: It was a gift to me from a tribal elder
BrigalthPospros: Aye, well, it certainly is handy, can't argue that.
Hawkeye: Let's get on with this, and keep our eye out for that cursed rider on horseback, whereever he
ran off to
BrigalthPospros: Aye
The two companions move onward toward Solace, puzzled at what the fat hobgoblin meant by a blue crystal
staff.
You travel along with the two barbarians, goldmoon atop your steed and Riverwind and you walk along the
road. The plainsman is clearly sick or very suspicious of you, but you do manage to get him to tell you of his
story.
Riverwind (Stoic): I am a warrior of the Que-Shu tribe. I have loved Goldmoon for many turns of the
sun.
Riverwind (Stoic): I remember little of what happened to me after I reached the forsaken lands.
Everything seems as if a dark dream: a black swamp, a well, a shining lady, and a leather-winged creature of pure evil. How
much of this is real and how much is madness, I cannot say.
Riverwind (Stoic): Months later, I somehow returned to Que-Shu, bleeding, crazed with fever and
visions. I presented the staff, but the village council scorned it. Somehow the staff saved us from the stoning, but we know
not how.
Taurus listens quietly as the man recounts his tale, encouring him with several slight nods but not
otherwise interupting until he finishes.
Taurus: It appears you have been on quite a quest my plainsman friend.
Riverwind nods solemely
Goldmoon: I am sure that if we travel to Haven, we can learn more of this staff.
Taurus: On arriving in Solace I shall be forced to fill both your stomachs with a hot meal and some ale
so I might hear more of it. We can decide what to do from there.
Riverwind smiles warmly.
Riverwind: the gods choose you for a reason.
Taurus: For now however, it might be wise we hide the Staff. I don't want to put any unnatural thoughts
into the simple folk of Solace.
Goldmoon: agreed.
Taurus offers the woman a slight smile and nod, wrapping the staff up in his own cloak before securing
it on the strong horse.
As you approach Solace, the end of your long journey, your anticipation of rest and reunion with your
fellows grows. Just as you see the first of the treetop houses peeking from among the fall foliage, you notice that the road
is blocked; just around the bend ahead of you is a group of guards, the Highseekers militia. A farmers oxcart is stopped on
the road, and two soldiers are searching its contents while the driver and passenger stand by. Two additional soldiers watch
from a short distance away; one of the soldiers holds a chain restraining a ferocious-looking dog.
Taurus: It appears there has been some trouble a foot, since last I was here. Let us
investigate.
Taurus guides Thunder and his two travelling companions towards the 'roadblock'. Making sure they are
well seen on the road and when within distance he raises a hand.
Taurus: Hail! Guardsmen.
guard looks up at the travellers
guard: halt!
Taurus halts, placing a hand on the back of Thunder's neck to steady her.
guard walks forward towards the three companions
guard eyes up the knight and two barbarians.
Taurus: I do not remember security so thick, last I was in Solace. Is there trouble?
Taurus steps forward towards the guard to subtly block his companions and force him to pay full
attention to him.
guard: This is just standard protocol. So demands the High theocrat!
guard (suspicously): Where are you coming from?
Taurus: The port of Crossing.
Taurus: I am returning home to Solace, after some five years of absence.
guard: You are from Solace?
Taurus: Yes.
guard (looking at the barbarians): These two don't look like they're from here.
Taurus: You have keen sight guardsman, you do your lord honor.
Taurus: These pair are under my charge.
guard Looks at the three for a short moment.
Taurus grins
guard: have you heard anything about a Blue Crystal Staff?
Goldmoon Looks nervously to Taurus
Taurus Does the staff I have match that description?
Taurus: No, nothing. Is this what the trouble is about? A theft?
Goldmoon ignores Taurus' question.
Goldmoon: We're going to have to search your belongings.
Taurus: I can assure you guardsman, that is not neccasary. My charge are tired and require rest and
food, perhaps you will allow us passage if we check in with the militia at Solace?
The guard looks the three over before glancing towards his fellow guardsmen standing behind
him
guard: what do you think? Should we bother searching them?
other guard: Hederick told us to search everyone. no exceptions.
guard scratches head.
Taurus looks towards Goldmoon. "Worry not M'Lady, we shall find rest soon. Once these honorable
Guardsmen allow us passage."
Goldmoon: Thankyou, honorable knight. You are too kind.
guard: Alright.
Taurus turns his attention back to the guards.
guard the guard waves his had.
guard: go ahead. If you hear anything about this staff be sure to come and tell one of the town
guardsmen.
Goldmoon sighs in relief.
Taurus: Indeed. Might I have the honor of your name? So I can hail your thoroughness to your
superior?
guard: Ravak. (smiles at the mention of being praised)
Taurus: Well met Guardsman Ravak. Until we meet again, keep these roads safe.
other guard shoves Ravak a bit and shakes his head. He turns and heads back to the farmers
cart
Taurus goes so far as to salute him in typical manner of the area before guiding his small group
past.
You pass the road block, the dog growls as you pass.
Taurus: Down boy, lest your ire Thunder's hooves.
You make your way safely towards Solace.
Goldmoon: That was a close one, my friend.
Taurus: I assume you know more of this Blue Crystal Staff than I, M'Lady.
Goldmoon Shakes her head.
Goldmoon: not much, unfortunately.
Taurus: I see, then we have nothing of note to inform the Guards. I would not wish to harass their
duties further.
Goldmoon: It is a gift from the gods. I would not have believed it myself, if I had not seen the
powers it has.
Taurus: Perhaps the Old Gods have not fully abandoned us after a... *mummbles to himself*
At the foot of hill, you see two people slowly making their way into Solace. They look vaguely
familiar but the setting sun shines in your eyes, making it difficult to tell.
Goldmoon: uh-oh. more trouble?
Taurus lifts his metalic hand to shield his eyes as he peers off into the distance, squinting to attain
who the two are.
Riverwind frowns
Taurus: Its doubtful M'Lady, they'd not have passed the Guardsmen without incident
otherwise.
Weary from the hobgoblin attack, you've both kept a keen eye open. Approaching from behind you are
three figures, one astride a horse. The man clad in shinning armor seems to remind you of somone long ago
Hawkeye places a hand on his scimitar to be safe
Hawkeye: Possibly more trouble, Brigalth
BrigalthPospros: Uh?
BrigalthPospros noticing the strangers
BrigalthPospros: ah, i see
The three approach at a casual pace, soon you recognize the steel clad warrior as Taurus
Regulus
BrigalthPospros walks somewhat haggardly from the blood loss
Hawkeye: Tauras? Tauras Regulus?
Taurus continues along the path towards the figures slightly blurred thanks to the setting sun; guiding
the muscle bound steed with a gauntletted fist.
Hawkeye looks at Brigalth, concerned
BrigalthPospros: Hey...Taurus...Taurus...that name sounds familiar...
Taurus: One and the same. Hail stranger!
BrigalthPospros gets a better look at taurus
Hawkeye: It's been a long time. It's me, Hawkeye. Who's that with you? Que-Shu plainsmen?
BrigalthPospros: Ah!, Taurus, thats right!, How are you! Cut it with that stranger business!
Taurus pulls up Thunder short of the two with some 15ft between them, easing the Mare he steps forward
to greet them.
Taurus: Is it? It couldnt be... Hawkeye, Brigs! Well met old friends!
Taurus: How many seasons has it been?
Taurus offers each his arm in a warriors embrace.
Hawkeye: More than I care to count, old friend
Hawkeye clasps his arm warmly
Goldmoon dismounts with skill
BrigalthPospros nods his head in agreement, and also clasps his arm
Taurus: Forgive my rudeness!
Riverwind waits by the horse as he watches Goldmoon approach the strangers.
Taurus: All me to introduce my charge. Riverwind and Goldmoon, of the Que-Shu.
Goldmoon Bows with grace.
Hawkeye (nodding): It's a pleasure to meet you, m'lady
Goldmoon: we are fortunate to have found Taurus here.
Taurus: These are my long time friends, Hawkeye of the Que-Teh and Brigalth of the Roads.
BrigalthPospros: Well met, friends...
Goldmoon: it is an honor to meet you both.
Goldmoon glances back at riverwind.
BrigalthPospros bows somewhat clumsily, not accustomed to such behavior
Hawkeye: You'll not believe what happened, Taurus.
Taurus eyes their wounds.
Goldmoon: I'm sorry about Riverwind. He has not been... well lately.
Taurus: You were attacked by wild badgers?
BrigalthPospros: Aye, bloody hobgoblins rather, stuck us right good they did!
Hawkeye (laughing): No
Hawkeye: Aye, what Brigalth says is true. Attacked us on the road, looking for some sort of crystal
staff
BrigalthPospros: Of the blue variety!
Taurus: Let us talk as he walk, I've had a taste for sweet potatoes since I arrived in the
Crossing.
Taurus: I'll tend to your scratches when we arrive.
Hawkeye: Aye, I don't feel comfortable right now just standing here
Hawkeye thanks Taurus
Taurus looks breifly towards Goldmoon, then towards his old friends.
Goldmoon (walking): excuse me, you said something about a crystal staff?
Taurus: A Crystal Staff you say? The guardsmen some distance down the road are searching for somthing
very similiar.
Hawkeye: Really? Guardsmen and Hobgoblins both searching for the same thing.
Hawkeye: It seems you didn't encounter the same issues we did though
Taurus: Guardsmen are much more willing to parlay than those fury nuisances.
Hawkeye (Goldmoon): your bodyguard doesn't say much, does he?
BrigalthPospros is oblivious to the conversation, absorbed in his own thought
Goldmoon: yes.. (frowns) He has been ill. and he holds prejudice towards people outside of our
own.
Goldmoon blushes
Hawkeye: No offense, but Que-Shu can be like that sometimes
Goldmoon smiles faintly.
Taurus: Do not be concerned about my companions. You may trust them as you would myself; I may couch
for their honor.
Goldmoon: none taken.
Hawkeye: I'd trust you with my life, Taurus, as well I believe I've done before. I'll take your
word
BrigalthPospros Snaps back to reality
BrigalthPospros: As would I, Taurus
Goldmoon: thank you. to all of you for your trust and help.
Hawkeye: What brings you all to Solace?
Taurus: Always day-dreaming Briggs, nothing changes. *laughs*
BrigalthPospros: My Apoloigies, just can't wait to taste those tates again!
Goldmoon: It is a long story. One I'd be happy to share with you once we have reached our
destination.
Taurus: I believe, last we parted, it was your turn to buy.
Hawkeye nods
You make your way into Solace, it's many buildings high above.
Houses and businesses are connected by a series of suspended rope walkways and swinging bridges. These
can be reached only by a few staircases that lead up into the trees, stairs that can quickly be scuttled should the town be
attacked.
Hawkeye: TO the Inn of the Last Home?
Goldmoon: An Inn would be a nice place for us to rest...
BrigalthPospros: Yes, I would like to try and tend to my shoulder...
Taurus: Yes, but I must first inform the Guardsmen of this new information concerning this Staff they
search.
Hawkeye: Aye. I'll go with you, seeing as I was there
Goldmoon: We will also accompany you, Taurus. (she glances at the staff wrapped in the
cloak)
Taurus nods and guides the convoy towards the nearest guard within sight, or the closest garrisoned
building.
A couple of guards can be seen walking a patrol beneath the town above.
guard sees the part approach and stops walking
Taurus: Hail Guardsmen.
guard: keep a move on, civilians. It is approaching night.
Taurus: I've information for Hedrick, might I find an audience with him.
Hawkeye: We have some information for you, sir.
Taurus nods to Hawkeye.
Hawkeye bows out and let's Taurus do the talking
BrigalthPospros: That we do, important it is!
BrigalthPospros follows suit
guard: ha. What might you have to share with him? He is a busy man.
Taurus steps closer, lowering his voice.
Taurus: It is concering this staff your lord seeks.
guard eyes widen
guard: do you have it?
Taurus: No, guardsmen.
guard: you know where it is though?
Taurus: However my companions encounted a band of hobgoblins searching for it also.
Hawkeye: Yeah, and the filthy hobgoblins probably have ti with what they're doing
Taurus: I swore to Kavak I would inform the guard of any update regarding it - a very thorough man,
this Ravak.
guard (less excited): oh... well, we'll let Hederick know.
Hawkeye: That's it?
Taurus laughs, looking to Hawkeye.
Hawkeye: A band of hobgoblins assaults my friend and I and you'll "let Hederick know"
guard: We have patrols near by. Any goblins will be dealt with appropriately.
Taurus: No appreciation for the heroic I'm afraid, my friend.
guard (text here): hello
BrigalthPospros (this is a test of the emergency mood system): Bleep
Hawkeye: Aye, Taurus. Solace is a changed place
guard: Did these hobgoblins have any reason to attack you? they were looking for the staff,
no?
guard eyes the party up and down, scanning closely their equipment
BrigalthPospros: They were, but their attack seemed spastic and random! The nerve!
Hawkeye (to the Guard): They had no reason. They ambushed us on the road spouting something about the
staff, then attacked us when we asked them what they were talking about
Hawkeye: And some fat pudgy one road off on his horse somewhre, probably their leader
Taurus: Not an overly brighte species, Hobgoblins.
BrigalthPospros (under breath): filthy scum muckers...
Hawkeye nods laughing softly
guard: Well, you should tells us where you are staying... if there is anything else we might need from
you
Taurus: I cannot help but notice you have an ulterior motive, Guardsman. I bid you speak your
mind.
Hawkeye looks at Tarus, raising an eyebrow but trusitng he's dealt with thes epeople more than he
has
guard seems taken back a bit from the upfront knight
guard: w-what do you mean?
Taurus looks at the guard expectantly.
Hawkeye looks at the guard as well, confused
Taurus: You obviously have an ulterior motive. Your right eye twitches some when your trying to be
'sneaky'.
BrigalthPospros cracks his neck
guard right eye twitches.
Hawkeye (under his breath): I hadn't even noticed...
guard: it does not!
Taurus laughs and pats the guard on the shoulder friendly like.
Taurus: Come, walk with us to where we stay to put your concerns to rest. Perhaps I can teach you a
little somthing about 'tells'.
BrigalthPospros cracks a slight smile, amazed at Taurus social skills
guard: uh... Listen we are busy here. Just move along, and if you think of anything you might want to
let us know about the staff, then come let us know.
guard: come on (waves to other guard)
guard walks away shaking his head
Taurus: Ofcourse Guardsman. Good even to you.
BrigalthPospros (whispers to Hawkeye): I wouldn't want to be on the opposite side of his tongue. Makes
me feel like a right fool just watching him at this games
Hawkeye (whispers back): Aye.
Taurus turns back to his companions, tilting his head and sniffing slightly.
Taurus: Can you smell that, friends?
Hawkeye: What's that?
Taurus: Dinner.
Hawkeye: Aye! That sounds like an idea to me!
BrigalthPospros laughs, and nods in strong agreement
The Inn of the Last Home rests cradled high in the boughs of a vallenwood tree, its worn steps winding
around the heavy trunk up to the familiar, carved door. Warm laughter and cooking smells drift down to entice travelers to
leave the road and rest from their journey. For returning patrons, the Inn seems timeless, unchanging. The wooden bar weaves
around living branches of the tree, its burnished glow deepening with each year. The delicate windows of stained glass behind
the bar are being polished by Otik Sandath, the barkeeper. He turns and waves, smiling at you, and motions the barmaid in
your direction. The low murmur of voices fills the inn. An old man weaves stories in the corner by the hearth, to the delight
of the crowd gathered about him. At a far table, near the storyteller, a man and a woman sit together and speak quietly.
Another man stands near the storyteller, but he doesnt engage with him or his listeners; a small boy stares thoughtfully into
the fire a few paces away. Having delivered the last drinks on her tray, the barmaid steps toward you with a smile and shows
you to a table. Something about her seems familiar. The hair? The intelligent glint of her eyes? Could this be Tika, the
little girl who swept the tavern floors a short five years ago? The Inn never changes, but surely its people do
Hawkeye breathes in deeply
Hawkeye: Is that spice potatoes I smell coming from the kitchen?
BrigalthPospros: It is, I must try and get the recipe someday!
Taurus sets his saddle, and accompanying 'package', on a seat just to the side. Sliding back a chair
for Goldmoon quite gentlemanly before seating himself with a long relaxed sigh.
Hawkeye: It's been too long since I've gotten to enjoy the Inn's fine meals.
Tika Waylan: It will be hard to get old Otik to give up the recipe. what can I get you.
Taurus: That couldn't be...
Hawkeye looks carefully at the young woman
Hawkeye: You seem familiar to me..
Taurus catches himself eying Tika, politely standing and bowing his head.
BrigalthPospros: Ah ha, of course, of course...Anyway, some famous spiced tates for me
please!
Taurus: You've outgrown your pig-tails, it would appear young Tika.
Hawkeye: Tika? Is it really?
Tika Waylan: giggles softly.
Hawkeye: Solace really has changed
Tika Waylan: And you haven't outgrown being a tease, Taurus.
BrigalthPospros: What, you didn't notice right away!?
Taurus (Whisper to Hawkeye): And not only for the bad, it would appear.
Hawkeye: It's been a long time, Brigalth. I wasn't here as long as some of you were.
Hawkeye nods at Taurus's comment
Taurus grins before seating himself once more.
Tika Waylan: I didn't recognize you either. My how things have changed. What can I get for you
boys.
Taurus: Tika, might I trouble you a round of light ales for my companions.
Tika Waylan: of course, the spiced potatos for you Brig. (winks to him)
Hawkeye: I think it's safe to say we all want some of those famous spiced potatoes. Though I know not
what Tauru's companions woulfd like...?
Taurus: I believe Briggs is paying this evening.
BrigalthPospros giggles
BrigalthPospros: Ah, yes yes, That I will
Goldmoon: The potatos will be delightfull
Tika Waylan: Alright, Your food and drink will be here shortly.
BrigalthPospros: Oh yes, Ms. Goldmoon, this it'd be your first time having these famous tates, wouldn't
it?
Hawkeye: We should get some spirits to celebrate this reunion of sorts
Taurus: Thank you Tika, or should I say, M'Lady.
Tika get called away by another customer.
Goldmoon smiles
Goldmoon: yes it is. We have not ventured much further than the plains to the east of here.
Hawkeye (to Riverwind): Riverwind is it?
BrigalthPospros: Well, I promise ye won't be disappointed.
Taurus: Whilst you converse and our meals are coming, I will arrange us some rooms.
Hawkeye nods
Taurus takes his leave, standing and approaching the end of the bar. Setting his heavy saddle upon it
he waits for survice.
Riverwind looks to Hawkeye and nods
Hawkeye (to riverwind): So, what are you doing out of the plains?
Hawkeye: It's rare I see other PLainsmen coming to Solace outside of trading
Hawkeye: Rarer still to see the Que-Shu here
Riverwind (hesitant): I... we have been...
BrigalthPospros: Hm, it has been hard, has it then?
Goldmoon: our people... they do not understand... Riverwind... he brought forth a relic of sorts. We
were both stoned. They fear what is right there in front of their faces.
Hawkeye: You can relax here in Solace. It got it's name for a reason. I know well rejection the
tribes can cast on people
Goldmoon (looks down, ashamed): I too would have been the same way, had I not pledged my heart to
Riverwind.
Hawkeye looks between the two of them understanding coming
Hawkeye: So, he's not your bodyguard, is he?
Goldmoon Qucikly regaining her composure
BrigalthPospros trances into his own thoughts again
Goldmoon: he is my bodyguard. But he is also more than that.
Hawkeye nods
Goldmoon looks fondly to the plainsman, who stares off in the distance
Hawkeye wonders whether to ask about the relic or not
Otik (to Taurus): Hmmm... You look familiar. Taurus, right?
Otik Smiles wide, his cheeks rosy
BrigalthPospros: Aye...I think we get the picture...Anyway, not to bring up old ghosts, but, you
mentioned something of a relic?
Taurus: Indeed! Your memory serves you well.
Otik chuckles
Hawkeye smiles, glad that Brigalth brought it up instead of him
Otik: what can I do for you.
Taurus: Myself and my companions are looking to hire some rooms for the night, how many do you have
available?
Goldmoon: Business is pretty good right now, despite everything that's going on. I have two room
available right now.
Otik: Business is pretty good right now, despite everything that's going on. I have two room available
right now.
Taurus: You refer to the hogblins?
Otik gives a fake chuckle
Otik: you noticed, did you?
Taurus gestures over towards Brigs and Hawkeye.
Taurus: It appears their numbers have been culled somewhat since we arrived. *grins*
Otik (serious): Be careful who you go around telling that to.
Taurus (quietly): Those beasts have allies in town?
Otik (whisper): Word is that Hederick hired a Hobgoblin mercenary to help look for some Crystal
staff
Taurus leans closer.
Taurus (whisper): he wouldnt be a rather plump hobgoblin, would he?
Otik nods
Taurus brows crease.
Otik: Fewmaster Toede is his name.
Taurus: Those two rooms, we'll take both Otik old friend.
Taurus (whisper): ... and perhaps you'll keep it quiet which ones.
Otik (to himself): Stupid goblin gives himself the title of 'fewmaster'.
Otik: of course! the two rooms are yours.
Otik: and you know that I won't say a word of the other.
Taurus (whisper): thank you for your disgression.
Taurus tips Otik an extra coin before taking his saddle and 'package' upstairs to one of the rooms to
secure it.,
Goldmoon looks worried to the two strangers across the table.
Goldmoon: The relic... I'm not sure it is safe to speak of here...
Hawkeye: Hmm. With all that's going on, I can't say I blame you.
BrigalthPospros: Oh, is that so? I suppose it could wait.
Hawkeye: Let us eat first. There's plenty of time later for stories
BrigalthPospros: Of course, Of course...
Hawkeye and Taurus, when he returns from upstairs, notice the old Storyteller giving many glances in
your direction.
Hawkeye nudges Brigalth slightly, his eyes darting towards the storyteller
Storyteller rises slowly and stretches.
BrigalthPospros understands, and doesn't turn to look toward him himself
Taurus catches the Storytellers gaze and gives him a smile, heading in his direction.
Storyteller holds a hand gingerly to his bent back and makes his way towards your table
Taurus: Hail Stranger.
Storyteller good day!
Storyteller: good day!
Hawkeye rises as he sees the man approah
Hawkeye: Do you need a seat, good sir?
Storyteller smiles a grin, with many a tooth missing
Taurus: I couldn't help but notice you've been looking our direction. Do we know you?
Storyteller: aye. I'll take a seat if you offer.
Storyteller plops down in a chair beside Goldmoon, looking at her with inteanse but friendly
eyes
Taurus: Tika! Another ale for our new friend, if you would.
Storyteller: I couldn't help but hear you speak briefly of your tale. Tell us more, my dear.
Taurus (to Storyteller): Briggs shout.
Hawkeye looks at Goldmoon
Hawkeye: Perhaps a story for a story sir? I heard you tell some stories over there myself
Goldmoon shakes her head, even as the old man hands her a lute, which seems to appear from
nowhere.
Taurus: Yes, maybe you'll tell us of this 'Fewmaster'
Hawkeye looks at Taurus questioningly
Taurus looks towards the rest of the group.
Hawkeye (whisper): Fewmaster?
BrigalthPospros rubs his forehead in confusion
Taurus: Apparantly Hedrick has hired a rather portly hobgoblin mercinary to hunt down this
staff.
Hawkeye: Oh really?
Goldmoon All eyes fall upon the plainswoman as she strums a chord, her soft voice can barely be
heard.
Hawkeye looks back at the Storyteller
Goldmoon (Singing): Grasslands are endless, And Summer sings on, And Goldmoon the princeess loves a
poorman's son. Her father the chieftain makes long roads between them: the grasslands are endless, And summer sings on.
Goldmoon (Singing): The grasslands are waving. The sky's rim is gray. The chieftain sends Riverwind
east and away, to search for strong magic at lip of the morning the grasslands are waving. The skey's rim is Gray
Goldmoon (Singing): Oh Riverwind where have you gone? Oh Riverwind autumn comes on. I sit by the river
and look to the sunrise, but the sunrises over the mountains alone. Autumn is here.
Goldmoon (Singing): The grasslands are fading, the summer wind dies, He comes back, the darkness of
stones in his eyes, He carries a blue staff as bright as a glacier. The grasslands are fading, the summer winds die.
Goldmoon (Singing): The grasslands are fragile, As yellow as flame, the chieftain makes mockery Of
Riverwind's claim, He orders the people to stone the young warrior: The grasslands are fragile, as yellow as flame.
Goldmoon (Singing): The grasslands are faded, And autumn is here. The girl joins her lover, The staff
flares in blue light And both of them vanish: The grasslands have faded, and autumn is here.
Goldmoon (Singing): Oh Riverwind where have you gone? Oh Riverwind autumn comes on. I sit by the river
and look to the sunrise, but the sunrises over the mountains alone. Autumn is here.
Hawkeye looks at GOldmoon, somewhat shocked
The last chord rings out as the Inn of the Last Home falls silent.
Taurus listens quietly to the song, after a few moments of silence he begins to applaud.
Hawkeye looks at Taurus confused
BrigalthPospros: Hm, that is quite a song...
A scattering of applaus join in with Taurus but most remain silent
Taurus offers Hawkeye a slightly uneasy smile.
Goldmoon hands the lute back to the old man
Hawkeye (mutters to himself): Quite a song indeed
Taurus raises his voice just a little so the rest of the Inn can hear.
Taurus (raised): What a lovely balad, you said you heard it from a passing caravan south of here
M'Lady?
Hawkeye his hand instictivly rests on the pommel of his blade, glancing about the Inn
uneasily
Drunk: Blasphomy! Ssss...ome one *hick* call the guard!
Goldmoon: oh... yes.. (She blushes) I was happy to learn it from a travelling bard.
Hawkeye looks at the drunk, his hand clenching tighter, not sure what's going to happen
anymore
Taurus: Perhaps later we shall hear of the one where Riverwind fights the Dragon!
Taurus grins.
Hawkeye laughes forcefully, thinking he knows what Taurus is about now
the Inn flares up into low mummers, the staff is mentioned clearly by many patrons.
Goldmoon: I fear that if we stay much longer, we might have to deal with those guards from
before.
BrigalthPospros: Oh, Goldmoon, why don't you sing the song about the stone too, these mystical songs
are all so alluring!
Taurus nods slowly, lowering his voice.
Drunk Stumbles towards the door
BrigalthPospros does his best to play with Taurus charade
Hawkeye: I think that she's sung enough for now. Perhaps another night?
Hawkeye looks at Taurus and nods towards the drunk a little.
BrigalthPospros (noticing drunk): Hey, where are you going, why don't you stick around, have another
drink, its on me!
Taurus (whispered): We should rest here and leave before daylight. We're all tired, and wounded, a good
nights rest and a hot meal will help speed our heels.
Drunk looks towards Brig, waves his hand in disgust and stumbles against the doorframe
Hawkeye (whispering): Aye. I don't think SOlace is a good place to stay right now
BrigalthPospros turns to Taurus and nods
Drunk (hanging from the railing): GUARDS!! A W*hick* ITCH! Sssshe hasss ...Staff
Hawkeye: oh crap
BrigalthPospros moves over near the drunk
Hawkeye: I don't think it's safe here, whether he speaks the truth or not, Taurus
Drunk the rest of the Inns Patrons watch on, not sure what will happen
the rest of the Inns Patrons watch on, not sure what will happen
Taurus: Perhaps we should retire now, Tika can bring our meals up.
Hawkeye: Aye. You go up ahead.
BrigalthPospros: Hey, This guys so darn liqouted up he seems to not be speaking so clearly...
Hawkeye heads over towards the door
Goldmoon gathers things and goes upstairs. Riverwind follows her
Taurus stands, offering his hand to Goldmoon to guide her and Riverwind upstairs.
Hawkeye (to Drunk): Sir, come inside. W'ell buy you another round
Drunk Spins around, almost falling over, to face Brig
Drunk Points a finger in Brigs face.
Drunk: you sssstay right there... Warlock!
BrigalthPospros: Warlock? Pshaw, im no warlock...
BrigalthPospros points out scythe on his back
Hawkeye laughs
Drunk squints at the burly fighter
Hawkeye: I've never seen a warlock wield a scythe so efficiently
Drunk face turns to an expression of fear and panic
Drunk: Death! Come for me!!!
BrigalthPospros: Come now, surely you can appreciate a good song, whats this talk of staffs and
such...
Hawkeye looks at Brigalth then back to the drunk again
Drunk Stumbles dangerously close to the steps
Hawkeye: I think you've had too much to dirnk good sir
BrigalthPospros (to hawkeye): Sheesh, perhaps he has had too much already...
Hawkeye nods to Brigalth
Hawkeye reaches a hand out to the drunk, trying to stablize him
BrigalthPospros: Hey now, you don't wanna fall now do you? why don't I help you home?
Despite your best efforts, the drunks arms go flailing about as he falls backwards down the stairs. He
rolls down many steps before crashing into the spiral railing, dangling half over the edge of the step.
Hawkeye rushes over to the drunk to help him up, trying to disfuse the situation before it
escalates.
BrigalthPospros: ouch...
the crowd, watching from inside gasp in shock. You here mummurs from some saying you pushed
him
BrigalthPospros rushes over
Hawkeye: This is not boding well, Brigalth
BrigalthPospros: No, it is not...
BrigalthPospros: Come on sir, lets get you home...
the drunk is knocked out but otherwise seems fine
Hawkeye: Maybe we should let the guards take him home and retire for the night?
BrigalthPospros: I think that would be best, I'll explain what happened to our friend here, and I'll
meet up with you soon
Hawkeye: Alright. I see you later then
Hawkeye heads back into the Inn, going upstairs to try and find what rooms Taurus procurred
BrigalthPospros slings the unconscious man over his back, looking for the nearest gaurd to give him
to...
Brig sees some guards walking hurridly up the stairs.
BrigalthPospros: Excuse me, Gaurdsmen!
guard looks up to see Brig
BrigalthPospros rushes over to meet them
guard: What happened!?
BrigalthPospros: Ah, my friend here, he's had a little too much too drink...
BrigalthPospros: When he was leaving the bar I came over to help him down, but he said he could do it
himself and ended up taking a nasty tumble...
BrigalthPospros: perhaps you could take him to his home?
guard nods
guard: alright, hand him over.
guard looks to the other guard
guard: go upstairs and check things out. I thought I heard something about a staff.
BrigalthPospros: unslings the man and puts his hands under his arms, trying to shimmy the mans body to
the gaurds awkward grasp
BrigalthPospros: Oh that!
BrigalthPospros: ah, it was just about an old folk song
guard (to the other guard): yeah... he's probably right. They're always playing songs up there. This
drunk is just... well... drunk. Besides, I don't want to go all the way up the stairs just to find out that there is no
staff... like it always is!
other guard: fine. Letes get this guy home. He's getting heavy. Grab his feet.
BrigalthPospros: Thank you, good sirs, may your roads be bright, Im turning in, good night!
other guard: goodnight.
BrigalthPospros makes his way back to the Inn to find the rooms
Brig walks into the room. Everyone is seated around the room, waiting patiently to find out what
happened
BrigalthPospros: Ah, no trouble, I just found some gaurds to take him home, they didn't check us out in
the least
BrigalthPospros: Is the food here yet?
Right on cue, there is a knock on the door
BrigalthPospros looks around the room anxiously
Hawkeye: I hope that's Tika
BrigalthPospros opens the door widly in anticipation
Tika Waylan Stands with her arms full of potato platters
Hawkeye: Ah, that smells delicious
BrigalthPospros: Oh, that looks great, please, come in!
Hawkeye walks voer to Tika to help take the food off her hands
Taurus: Would you like to join us? I'm sure you could rest your feet for several minutes.
Hawkeye: That sounds like a good idea
Taurus slides back a seat for Tika.
Tika comes into the room and places the food on a small table in the cornor
Tika sits down on the offered chair
Tika: I can't stay long...
Taurus: Ofcourse, your a busy g-- woman.
Hawkeye starts making sure all the food gets to everyone
Taurus takes a plate from Hawkeye, thanking him. Waiting until everyone else is seated before he
hungrily begins to devour it.
Hawkeye begins eating slowly
Tika: I don't know how safe you all will be here. Brig must have got the guards to leave, but I'm sure
that word will spread fast about what happened here tonight
Hawkeye: Perhaps Tika can explain to use what's going on in Solace right now
Tika nods
Taurus: We'll leave well before daybreak young Tika, I'd not burden you or Oti with any further
trouble.
Tika: no trouble to us. we can handle this. Stay tonight, but it would be wise to leave by
tomorrow
Hawkeye: We have a lot of things to discuss tonight, I feel
Taurus: Indeed, and wounds to tend.
BrigalthPospros: Aye, but first, we eat!
Hawkeye looks down at his wrist and leg
Hawkeye: Aye, that we do
Hawkeye nods to Brigalth, smiling and digging in again
BrigalthPospros: wolfs down the tates on his platter
BrigalthPospros wolfs down the tates on his platter
Taurus: Do you know why everyone is so up in arms about this Staff, Tika?
Taurus: Surely it cannot be worth all this trouble.
Tika (looks to Hawkeye): Solace is in control of the High Theocrat, hederick. He has all of his Seeker
guards looking for this confounded staff. Otik thinks that it was that slimeball, Toede who has everyone looking for
it.
Hawkeye: When did the Seekers move into SOlace in such force?
Tika (chuckles): Otik thinks it came from Draken Woods. Nobody has seen it, as far as I
know.
Tika (thinking): They came about four years ago.
Tika: not in such force mind you, but they have established power here.
Hawkeye: And this business with the Staff? WHen did that happen?
BrigalthPospros sighs
Taurus listens quietly as he finishes his meal between mouthfuls of ale.
Tika: Just recently. Maybe the last couple of weeks. Maybe a bit more?
Hawkeye (sighing): I had hoped to stay in Solace a bit longer...
Tika nods
BrigalthPospros: As did I...
Hawkeye: You've been a great help though, Tika. Thank you.
Taurus gently dabs the corner of his mouth with his napkin before setting it down on the cleaned plate.
Looking around at his companions before addressing Tika.
Tika: There are also all sorts of other happenings... farmers going missing. strange beasts in the
hinterland. There's talk of war.
Taurus: Tika dear, would you happen to know where one might find this Toede?
Hawkeye looks at Taurus at Tika's comment
Tika shakes her head in disapointment
Taurus grins at Hawkeye.
Hawkeye: who exactly is this Toede? And the Fewmaster you referenced earlier?
Taurus (to Hawkeye): It wasn't my doing!
Taurus laughs.
Taurus: Toaed and the Fewmaster are one and the same, my friend. My appologies for the
confusion.
Hawkeye: If anyone knows about war, it's you two.
Hawkeye gestures to Brigalth and Taurus
BrigalthPospros: Hmm...yes, I had heard rumours about preperations for war, It was one of the reasons I
came back.
Hawkeye: Does he happen to be a pudgy goblinoid?
BrigalthPospros: May as well get some work in while visiting old friends
Taurus: That he does.
Tika: Toede... he's some hobgoblin mercenary. He whispers in Hedericks ear if you ask me.
Tika nods to Hawkeye
Hawkeye: I believe we've met
Hawkeye glances at his injuries
BrigalthPospros touches his shoulder
Taurus: Could you follow the tracks of a pony, a day old, Hawkeye?
Hawkeye I think I can
Hawkeye: I think I can
Hawkeye: Especially one carrying such a heavy load
Taurus: Then before daybreak we shall head to where you encountered out friend and attempt to parlay
with him.
Taurus: He might be able to shed some more light on these recent troubles. Would you both assist me in
this?
Taurus looks between Hawkeye and Briggs.
Hawkeye nods
Hawkeye: I think we need to meet with this Fewmaster Toede
Hawkeye fingers the hilt of his blade softly
Otik (Shouting): Tika! We have paying customers down here too you know?
Taurus nods knowing the meaning.
Tika: oh! I got to go!
BrigalthPospros: Hmm, yeah, why not, can't let you go do all this interesting stuff without
me!
BrigalthPospros: Anyway, Tika, before you go, how much do I owe you and Otik for the night?
Hawkeye rises to open the door for her
Taurus smiles in thanks to the pair, commeint quietly.
Taurus (whispered): Just like old times...
Tika: The total tab comes to... 2 gold. you can pay on your way out though. (smiles)
Hawkeye: Thank you again, Tika
Tika Scampers off as Otik calls for her again.
Hawkeye closes the door behind her and turns back to the group
Hawkeye: I have no issues finding this Toede character, but I think we need to have a few questions
answered first
Hawkeye looks at Goldmoon
Taurus nods slowly, standing and moving towards one of the beds.
BrigalthPospros: moves to a bed and sits, taking the time to remove his armor
BrigalthPospros moves to a bed and sits, taking the time to remove his armor
Taurus rummages about the straw mattress and slides out a long item wrapped in his cloak, carrying it
back to the table he sets it down. Pulling the material aside to reveal a simple wooden staff.
Hawkeye: What's this?
Goldmoon She stands up and straightens her clothes before addressing the party
Taurus: A staff.
Hawkeye: Obviously
Goldmoon: I am princess of the Que-Shu Tribe. Riverwind is my guardian and my betrothed. We seek to
discover the nature and use of this staff that Riverwind found.
Goldmoon: Some months ago, Riverwind went to my father and asked for my hand. Father had another
marriage in mind for me, and he demanded that Riverwind prove his worth by bringing back magic of the forsaken lands.
Goldmoon: For months I received no word of Riverwind. Then he returned, bearing this staff. Father
thought he had rid himself of Riverwind, and in his anger he declared the staff worthless and ordered the villagers to stone
Riverwind. as the stones fell upon him, I ran to his side. At that moment the staff blazed with blue light and we found
ourselves on the plains far west of the village. We do not know how to work the staff; we cannot return to our village until
we learn how to control the power of the staff.
Hawkeye looks at Goldmoon, not surprised by her princess staement
Hawkeye: A magic staff, you say?
Taurus: Which is where our paths crossed.
Hawkeye: Good old Taurus, always helping strangers.
Hawkeye laughes
BrigalthPospros is listening intently
Goldmoon: It is a blessing from the gods. And Taurus... he is the protector. I saw it in a
dream...
Taurus: You'd have done the same, and don't tell me otherwise.
Hawkeye nods slightly
Hawkeye: a dream?
Hawkeye: I've seen the effect of a plainswoman's dreams before...
Goldmoon nods with confidence
Taurus: I doubt this is the Staff which is the cause of all this trouble in Solace, it does not fit the
description. However I fear should they find it the Seekers will confiscate it never-the-less.
BrigalthPospros grumbles
Hawkeye (nodding): I agree with that at least.
BrigalthPospros (under breath): was much one for religion...
Goldmoon: I'm afraid that it is, Taurus...
Taurus looks at Goldmoon somewhat confused.
Hawkeye: This is neither blue, nor crystal...?
Goldmoon: Now, it looks plain, like any other wooden staff. But when it's power is used, it turns into
blue crystal.
Taurus: Yes, as Hawkeye says.
Taurus: I see...
Hawkeye thinks for a moment
Hawkeye: Then.. how do others know of it?
Goldmoon: That, I do not know.
Hawkeye (whispering to Taurus): Do you trust them?
Taurus: Princess Godmoon suggested we take it to Haven, for study.
BrigalthPospros: Wait, Riverwind, you got this staff from lands forsaken to your people, so, where
exactly are these lands?
Goldmoon (ta): You do not sense any ill motives, but you do not necessarily know if they are good
either.
Goldmoon: oops
Taurus nods slowly to Hawkeye
Hawkeye (whispering to Taurus): Then I will trust you, friend.
Riverwind: I... I do not know for sure. It is far to the east of my home, beyond the
mountains
Taurus (whispered): As much as I can those whom I've only known a day; which is more than I can say for
these 'Seekers'.
Hawkeye (whispered): Haven is the Seeker capital. Why go there?
Hawkeye (whispered): We might as well surrender the staff now
Taurus (whispered): To find someone in a better possition than ours to unlock the staves
powers.
Hawkeye frowns slightly
Taurus (whispered): or so they say...
Hawkeye: If Haven is where they desire to go, I shall do my best to help you out. But, first on my
list is finding this Fewmaster
Taurus: Agreed. Briggs?
BrigalthPospros: Hey, I see no reason to break up this beautiful reunion so soon.
Taurus chuckles.
BrigalthPospros: So yes, we're agreed
Hawkeye laughes softly
Hawkeye: To reunions, short-lived in Solace they may be
Taurus: Besides, tis not every day one is granted the priviledge of traveling with royalty.
Hawkeye raises his ale
Taurus raises his ale and takes a slug.
Riverwind: It is said that Haven is home to many wise men. They must know what to do with this staff.
I would hate to linger here longer than need be, least the staff fall into this Toede's hands, but if this is what you wish
to do, then I will help in whatever way I can... We will help. (looks to Riverwind)
BrigalthPospros raises his aleglass but realizes too late that he had already emptied it
Goldmoon: It is said that Haven is home to many wise men. They must know what to do with this staff.
I would hate to linger here longer than need be, least the staff fall into this Toede's hands, but if this is what you wish
to do, then I will help in whatever way I can... We will help. (looks to Riverwind)
Riverwind frowns at Goldmoon
Taurus gives Riverwind a hearty slap on the back and sets a mug of ale infront of him.
Hawkeye: Solace is our home, Mistress Goldmoon. We must do something to help the people
here.
Goldmoon: I understand, and I would do the same for my people.
Hawkeye: Well, it's the closet thing to a home I have now
BrigalthPospros: Do not worry, with hawkeyes skill, we shall find this foomaster, or whatever... In
only a few moments tomorrow!
Taurus: Indeed, we can hardly have this hobgobling causing trouble for the simple people of
Solace.
Hawkeye: Aye!
Hawkeye tips back his mug, emptying it
Goldmoon: Then, if that is all, Riverwind and I shall retire to the other room
Taurus: Princess, I have arranged a private room for yourself and your companion. It is adjacent to our
own, so should you have any trouble simply bang on the wall.
Goldmoon: certainly, good knight. thank you again for all your help. all of you.
Taurus: As for the staff, we shall care for it - I would like to study it some during my liberations
with these scratched up scoundrels.
Taurus gestures to Hawkeye and Briggs.
Hawkeye laughes
Hawkeye: Yes, sir, Taurus the Protector
Hawkeye might be a little tipsy
Goldmoon: goodnight. we will see you in the morn.
Goldmoon exits with Riverwind to the other room.
Taurus smiles some and escorts the two to their room, ensuring they lock it before returning to their
own.
BrigalthPospros once again, was oblivious to the goings ons around him
Taurus: I apologise for dragging you both into the middle of this.
Hawkeye (serious): It's not a rpoblem Taurus. This isn't going to be easu though.
BrigalthPospros: No worries, I pretty much came up here looking for trouble anyway. It's only too bad I
won't get to visit Master Ironfeld or my sister as soon as i'd like to.
Taurus: If this Staff is truelly what they say... a few hobgoblins and militia are just the tip of an
iceburge.
Hawkeye: Aye. The Seeker's have a lot of power and authority. Especially in Haven
Taurus: Then we shall turn in early so we can get a head start on them.
Hawkeye: That sounds good to me.
BrigalthPospros: Sounds like a plan...
Hawkeye looks around to see how many beds there are
Taurus unravels the healing kit and goes about cleaning, stiching and dressing their wounds. (Hoping to
double their hp regen from sleep)
