CRITERIA FOR AAZK CHAPTER GRANTS:
Application
Must be an active Brookfield AAZK member for at least one year, and a full-time keeper at Brookfield Zoo. Must be in good standing with National AAZK (dues are up to date).
Types of keeper work-related items that qualify for grant money, including, but not limited to:
-Conference, workshop, and class registration costs.
-Travel and accommodation expenses.
-Animal or conservation research in the zoo or in the field, especially those that relate directly to animals in the Brookfield Zoo collection.
-Expenses related to conservation stewardship and field experience opportunities.
Whenever possible, the keeper must solicit financial support from the zoo or other sources such as National AAZK grant money prior to submitting a request for a chapter grant. Keeper must commit to a presentation for the chapter (before, if they would like a practice run on a paper or poster, or) after the supported activity. Determination of adequate activity within the Brookfield Chapter is left up to the discretion of the chapter officers.
Preference will be given to keepers who:
-have some funds already committed to their project by Brookfield Zoo or other sources,
-will be presenting a paper or poster (rather than just attending a conference),
-have a project with a higher level of work-relatedness, and
-have not previously received financial support from the Chapter.
Application review periods are January 1-June 31; and July 1-December 31. Grant applications must be submitted the period previous to actual use, and a minimum of four weeks before the supported activity occurs. Keeper will be paid as a reimbursement following the completion of the supported activity, and receipts have been presented as proof of attendance.
