All of the stereotypes are true. Low salaries, unfit working conditions, and the feeling of holding the world on one's back are some of the many highlights in the field of education. All of this means that only the few and determined are called to become an educator.

What if children had the opportunity to attend a school where all of the teachers were truly concerned about their future? What if every public education system was filled with educators who would put everything on the line to ensure thier student's success. My collegiate years in the education department at Tougaloo College has made me believe that if all pre-service teachers were determined to become the most effective teachers, today's children would become the nation's finest leaders. The passion I have attained for children and education is the impetus that drives me in wanting to give the opportunity for a successful future.

Along with my experiences and my passion for education, I have worked avidly to become a teacher. From childhood, I dreamed of becoming a teacher. Now that I have developed into a young adult, my love for education has taken a new form. The field of education, with an emphasis in special education, needs more African American teachers who are dedicated to providing knowledge to the nation's future doctor's, lawyer's, and teachers. Many of the nation's school systems are using special education programs as a safety net, particularly when children in general education classes are not excelling or if the teacher feels that she cannot properly teach that student, they are sent to special education programs. I foresee that my dedication and personal qualities can help change the problem with many of today's special education programs.
