We were very fortunate on the day we met Iris and Kip Reid
of Reidwood English Setters. They introduced us to this
beautiful breed and together with their daughter Nancy Warner and
granddaughter Jeanette Warner became our mentors.
All of our English Setters either came from Reidwood or are descended
from that famous kennel. We owe our success
in the show ring, breeding and having great family companions
to Reidwood.
Although we breed
and select our puppies for conformation competition, we feel that health
and temperament are more
important for our breed. Our breeding dogs are BAER clear and
OFA tested for hip dysplasia. And we must be
comfortable with all our dogs when grandchildren and company visit.
We have chosen
an interesting theme for naming our dogs. We named our first girl "Lauren"
after the smooth elegant
actress Lauren Bacall, who was the wife of Humphrey Bogart. And we
said if we ever get a boy we will call him
"Bogie" - which we did. Our favourite movie is Casablanca and it featured
the great song "As Time Goes By" so some
of our dogs have call names derived from the characters in that movie
and registered names taken from lines in the song,
"As Time Goes By".
