Introduction
The
Ultimate Flag Football Playbook is a curriculum web that will enhance
students understanding of the game of football, focusing on the role of
the Wide Receiver and Quarterback. You and your team will create your
own playbook based on the Passing Tree provided for you in Objective 1.
Your team will then run practices and play a tournament by running the
plays you have designed. This will be a team effort as each member of
the team is responsible for designing their own play. Your finished product
will be a reflection of your teamwork and creativity.
Good
luck and have fun!!!

Rationale
As students
rely more and more on technology, there has been less dependence on peer
interaction and teamwork to get information and accomplish goals. Through
development of the team playbook, students will interact and cooperate
with their peers which will bring Character Education to the forefront.
The exploration of teamwork, compassion, responsibility, and self-worth
will all come into play as students progress through the completion of
the playbook. This unit falls in line with New York State Learning Standard
1, which deals with personal health and fitness and Learning Standard
2, which deals with a safe and healthy environment. This unit also falls
in line with the SAVE legislation. The two learning standards are met
by having the students physically active throughout the unit as they run
through their plays during development, practice, and games. As students
work together to complete the book, they are creating a safe, healthy
environment by showing respect to one another and displaying cooperation
skills within the group.
The unit focuses
on the development of a football playbook which will allow for exploration
of various web-based resources and deeper understanding of the complexity
of the game of football. Greater understanding of the game can be a conduit
for family interaction as many televisions are tuned into football games
all weekend from September through January. Finding ways for family members
to spend quality time is essential, as many family schedules become more
hectic.
