CQ Serenade

CQ Serenade words and music by the late Maurice Durieux VE2QS and VE2BR, played by VE2QS and his orchestra, vocal by Joyce Hahn. Produced around 1951.

In the late '50s I had a 45 RPM record with the vocal CQ Serenade on one side and the instrumental version on the other side. At the time, while in college, I worked part time as an engineer at WKLZ, a little 500 watt daytime only AM radio station in Kalamazoo, MI. One of my responsibilities was to go into the station once a month after midnight and put the transmitter back on the air to run a frequency measuring test. I would put on music and announce the station call sign from time to time so that the consultant could find us and mearure our frequency. One night I put CQ Serenade on and played both sides of the record. A few days later when I stopped by the station the chief engineer asked me what I had done the other night. It seems that 10 or 12 QSL cards from hams had arrived from all over the country from that session!
