Photonic Computing

Introduction Traditional modern computers use the transfer of electrons through copper wires as a means of transferring data throughout a computer. In order to conduct calculation the flow of electrons is manipulated by the processor. This technology has evolved significantly since it was first implemented, however, it is reaching it peak from a performance perspective and so scientists and researchers are turning to new mediums to transfer and manipulate data within a computer, one of the most researched ones being light.
