Could you be a self-harmer?

Intro

This questionnaire is taken from a book called Bodily harm. It is written by the people who run a breakthrough healing program for self harmers (S.A.F.E)

For this book we have modified the quentionnaire to target certain key issues that are consistently identified by the self-injurers we have worked with over the years. These categories have also been identified in scientific research to be correlated to self-injury, or to have predict it. However, we must emphasize strongly that the questionnaire is not meant as a formal diagnostic tool. We object to the concept of "checklist diagnosis" and only intend the questions to focus your attention on pertinent issues to concider in deciding to seek help.

Ideally, the questions should be answered as honestly as possible by the person who may have the problem with self-injury. While it's possible for someone close to that person to draw some conclusion from the questionnaire based on his or her knowledge of the situation, nobody but the sufferer will be able to answer all the questions accurately. If you are trying to help someone you suspect has a problem, you might want to ask him or her to take the quiz. If the person is denying a problem, you could point out that answering the questionnaire could confirm that no problem exists and help put it to rest.

The questionnaire has four sections, or categories. The first consists of questions regarding specific childhood memories and perceptions. The second involves a self- assessment, and the third category asks for an examinatoin of thoughts regarding potenially self-injurious acts. The fourth section involves specific questions for the person who already indentifies himself or herself as a self-injurer, and who may be trying to gain more understanding of the severity of the problem.

Following the questionnaire is an in-depth decription of each section and what your responses may suggest about you. It may be a good idea to print out the questionnaire and then answer the questions.
