Peru is located in the western part of South America, and it shares borders with Ecuador and Colombia (North), Brazil and Bolivia (East), Chile (South), and the Pacific Ocean (West). Peru size is 1,285,215 sq. km. (496,095 sq. miles). Geographically the country is divided into three main regions: La Costa, La Sierra, and La Selva.
La Costa (The Coast), it is a long narrow desert region on the western part of Peru, and it faces the Pacific Ocean.
La Sierra (The Highland), it is formed by the Andes, and it is located in the central part of the country.
La Selva (The Jungle), it is composed by the rain forest region of the Amazon basin. Also, Peru shares control of the LakeTiticaca with Bolivia.

The capital of Peru is Lima. It was founded by Francisco Pizarro in January 18th, 1535, and it is located on the west central coast of Peru.
Population. The population of Peru is very mixed; it is composed by Amerindian 45%, mestizo (mixed Amerindian and white) 37%, white 15%, black, Japanese, Chinese, and Muslims 3%. Official languages are Spanish, Qechua and Aymara. |
