Each summer, Powhatan High School hosts Powhatan Basketball Camp, a fundraiser for the Powhatan Basketball Program.
Over 100 boys and girls ages eight to fourteen (8 to 14) attended the 3rd Annual Powhatan Basketball Camps this past summer.
Powhatan Basketball Camp is open to boys and girls ages eight to fourteen (8-14) with each camper being grouped with players within their own ability level. Emphasis is placed on fundamentals of basketball, game play, individual and team instruction, and sportsmanship. Team games as well as individual competitions allow the campers to apply the skills being taught throughout the week.
Each camper receives a Powhatan Basketball T-shirt for registering. Camp times are Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Two weeks of Camp are offered to allow for maximal participation.
Directing Powhatan Basketball Camp is Steve Washburn, Junior Varsity Head Coach at Powhatan High School. Also on hand is Powhatan varsity assistant Matthew Pearman as well as Powhatan Junior High School Assistant Coach Rolan Downing.
Numerous Powhatan basketball players are on hand each summer to assist in instruction, coach in team games, and serve as mentors to the camp participants.
