Coaching Staff

Charles White Jr. is in his first season at the helm of the Indians basketball program, following three years as a varsity assistant and one year as junior varsity head coach. From 1994 to 1996, White was the head coach at Cumberland and was formerly an assistant coach at Buckingham. White also is the boys tennis coach at Powhatan.

A 1988 graduate of Virginia State University, White teaches GED Prep at Powhatan High School. White is single and resides in Petersburg.

Matthew Pearman is in fifth season on the Indians coaching staff and first as varsity assistant coach following four years in the same role on the junior varsity team. Pearman also serves as the Indians statistics coordinator, website manager and public address announcer.

A 1996 graduate of Powhatan High School and 2004 graduate of Longwood College, Pearman is currently a substitute teacher for Powhatan County Public Schools. Pearman is single and resides in Powhatan.

Steve Washburn is in his fourth season as the head coach of the Indians junior varsity team. Previously, Washburn spent two season as a junior varsity assistant coach. Washburn also is an assistant baseball coach for Powhatan Junior High.

A 1989 graduate of Powhatan High School and 1993 graduate of Radford University, Washburn currently teaches United States History at Pocahontas Middle School. Washburn and his wife Kim reside in Powhatan with their two children, Katie and Michael.
