HUARI

Huari, the capital of the province, is located at 147 kms. east of Huaraz, at 3,149 mts. above sea level, at the oriental part of the department of Ancash and has a population of 8,000 persons.
It has an extended valley that's been made by the Huaritambo, Purhuay and Jacabamba rivers. The water of this rivers go to the Marañon, ending up in the Atlantic Ocean.

ECOLOGIC CENTER OF HUANCHAC
Huari, has this Ecologic Center, which has an area of 12 acres, where the treatment of the organic wastes that come from Huari, are recycled and used as fertilizer by the farmers of that town.

JACABAMBA WATERFALL
This waterfall is located at 9 kms., northeast of Huari. In order to get to that place, first take a car to the Hydroelectric plant of Maria Jira and from there take a walk, uphill, where you find this 200 mts. waterfall. On the way back, you can stop in Acopalca and visit the trout hatchery.

THE WAGANKU FLOWER
The Wagancu, is a plant that belongs to the Orchid family which its name is MASDEVALLIA AMARILIS, and it grows at 2,800 to 3,500 mts. above sea level, in rocky areas and where there is a lot of moisture.

LAKES
The two biggest lakes of all the area of Conchucos is Purhuay and Reparin.
Purhuay.- Is located east of the city of Huari, at 9 kms. away which can be reached by road and its 2,900 mts. long. The water of this lake is the fountain of Huari.
Reparin.- This lake is located northeast of Huari and north of Cajay. It can be reached by car and it takes about 30 min. from the town of Huari.

MARCAJIRCA
A pre-Hispanic city, located 13 kms. southeast of Huari and at 3,800 mts. high. It has an area of 27 acres.
Marcajirca means city or town on top of hill. This archeological place, is a look tower, where it can be seen this valley that surrounds the Pomachaca area (Huaritambo, Mosna and Puchca rivers). To get to the place, take a car to the town of Chinchas and then a 1 1/2 hr. walk to arrive to the site.

CHAVIN DE HUANTAR
The archeological center of Chavin, is considered as a Ceremonial Center of the past.
Its located in the Province of Huari, district of Chavin at 3,137 mts above sea level. It data to 1200 B.C. This monument of our ancestors is well known by many investigators dedicated to the archeology and called the Mother Culture of the Andean Civilization.

It has been declared by the UNESCO " Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity".
