What is the BMI???

The Body Mass Index or BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat.

Calculating ones BMI
The equation to find ones BMI score = Weight(kg)/Height(m)2

Ones score places them into a certain category of health.
A score below Below 18.5 Classifies a person as "Underweight"
A score between 18.5 – 24.9 is "Normal"
Between 25.0 – 29.9 is considered "Overweight"
A score above 30.0 is classified as "Obese"

A Parents BMI Score
A child’s’ BMI scores is associated with their parents BMI score. If their parents have a high BMI score, it is more likely that the child will have a high score as well.

Problems with the BMI
Many children may be wrongly placed into the overweight or obese categorizes because of the many problems that the BMI faces such as: Age, Sex, Maturation, Ethnicity
