This is the Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea). 38 inches (97 cm). This bird was found nesting on a 
Acacia auriculiformis tree in a small island in an industrial estate! It is both 
resident and winter visitor to Malaysia at low elevations. It is usually found in
 freshwater swamps, disused mining pools and mangroves. This bird is usually
 solitary and feeds by craning and darting fishes with its sharp bill.
