Dusky Eagle Owl (Bubo coromandus).
Size 53 cm (21 in). Large size with erect ear tufts when alert. Greyish brown
upperparts marked with narrow dark streaks together with pale greyish buff
underparts with fine blackish streaks distinctive. Iris orange. Feathered tarsi.
Occurs in the Indian subcontinent through Myanmar and south-western Thailand to
the Malay Peninsula. Found in forest and forest edge, plantation.
Status and
distribution: The last collected specimen was in Gunung Semanggol in Perak
in May 1910 and the last sighting was in December 1998 which represents an 88
year old gap. This bird was discovered by Dr. Chan Ah Lak. Photos taken on 17.11.2001.
