Changeable Hawk Eagle (Spizaetus cirrbatus) Dark Morph
Size 56-75 cm (22-30 in). Overall blackish brown plumage with brown tail with slightly darker terminal band. Dark bill & cere. Iris brown. Occurs in the Indian subcontinent and South-East Asia to the Greater and Lesser Sundas east to the Philippines. Resident in Pen. Malaysia at low elevations, south to Singapore where it is uncommon. The dark morph is more common but less common than the Crested Serpent Eagle where it is usually seen in forests, forest edge, wooded garden and plantations. Usually seen alone or in pairs gliding over forest canopy and forest edge. Hunts from both the air and from perches.
