Crested Goshawk (Accipiter trivirgatus)

This is a Crested Goshawk (Accipiter trivirgatus). Size 40-46 cm (16-18 in).
Large accipiter with short crest and long tail. Upperparts dark brown with
slaty grey crown and sides of head. Underparts whitish with dark mesial
stripes, vertical rufous streaks on breast  and bold horizontal streaks from
lower breast below becoming more compact towards thighs. Has 4 dark bands on
tail. Occurs in the Indian subcontinent and southern China through
South-East Asia to the Greater Sundas and the Philippines. In W Malaysia, it
is resident from low elevations up to 240 m, south to Singapore where it is
rare. Found in forests, forest edge and plantations where it frequents the
canopy and middle storey.
