    NEWS:

After a pretty good effort in the Spud tournament where Sherwood defeated West Prince and Kings County in great games, the boys let down against Bedford and faced their old nemisis Ch'town in the Quater finals. The game was back and forth and fairly even in play until Ch'town showed too much fire power and defence in winning 5-2. The story was different on Feb. 2 at the Sportsplex as the Falcons came up with a solid team effort and smothered Ch'town on route to a 1- 0 win. The Abbies were never allowed to get clear shots as the defence and forwards played hard, exhibiting a close checking style of play. When they did get shots Travis was there with the save and controlled the rebounds well. Darcy provided all the offence that was needed on a pass from Brodie. I believe the entire team contributed equally in the win as each player took turns making key plays. Travis Gaudet took a hard check from Chris Doyle and showed lots of grit in returning to play well. Some fans thought it was the return of Dave Cudmore that was the key in the win, maybe they're right.
Feb. 10 : Brodie scores on end to end individual shorthanded effort to give Sherwood a 3 to 1 win over West Prince. I believe this win ensures the Falcons of third place in the league heading into the playoffs.

March 3, Falcons sweep Summerside in two. Sherwood defeated Summerside twice in close games recently to win the first round of the playoffs. I missed the first game but caught the second in Summerside. The Falcons dominated this game from the outset but only could post a 1-1 tie late in the game. Owen supplied the first goal from the crease and Brodie and Jordan Rowledge scored late to solidify the victory. Of note was Brodie who didn't want to rub it in to the opposition so he deliberatly missed an open net breakaway. Right Eddie? Not many shots on Luke in nets but he did make some key saves in the game.

March 17/01; Falcons defeat West prince in 2 to take the semi finals,in league playoff action, then fall prey to the talented Charlottetown squad in 2 games to lose in the finals. Sherwood played very well in the series against West Prince leaving a very disappointed Jim Macyntire at UPEI rink to ponder what went wrong. Against Ch'town the boys ran into a very hungry and well coached team with a great Goaltender thrown in for good measure. The boys were in both games right down to the wire and with a few lucky bounces who knows what might have been. All in all the Sherwood boys worked as hard as they could all year and were the only team to beat Ch'town ending the season second over all in the league. Way to go guys. Thats wraps up hockey for some of the players for the season while others go on to play for Dunns and Riptide in elite action. Gavin, Luke, Andrew, Shawn, and Jeremy are off to Dunn's elite squad, Brodie is off to Riptide, while Travis Willis and William go to the Atom Minor team at Dunns. Denton, Chris Boswall and Darcy get set to play for Dunns AAA team.
