Kuelap  Fortress 
BRIEF HISTORY REVIEW

The Department of Amazonas was the settling of the Chachapoyas culture or Sachapuyos. The rock constructions, temples, fortresses, terraces, graves, ceramics and cities, testify the advanced development reached by this civilization. The Kuelap Fortress is the maximum representation. 
In the province of Luya, at the same time there were other settlements, the Chipuric and Revach (800-1200 A.C.), burial grounds and mummies where found in this zone becoming important traces of this cultures.
In 1475 the region was annexed to the Inca Empire, which later its conquered by the Spaniards.
The city of Chachapoyas was created the 5 of September of 1538, since then it became the capital of the Peruvian Orient. Even though the creation of the Departments of Loreto and San Martin, Chachapoyas continued being the center for the conquest of the jungle by the Spaniards. The influence of the Viceroy makes the architecture in this city, important.
