The Chachapoyas Culture

GENERAL INFORMATION

LOCATION
In the North Oriental zone of Peru, in mid jungle. On its north part, is the Cordillera del Condor, that has an altitude of 4,000 meters. Also its a member of the Amazon basin, having rivers such as Marañon, Santiago, Uctubamba, Cenepa, Nieva and Chuchungas. 

EXTENSION
The Department of Amazonas has an extension of 39,249 square kms.

POPULATION
It has a population of 400,000 inhabitants.

CAPITAL OF THE DEPARTMENT
Chachapoyas is located at an altitude of 2,234 meters above sea level, city that still preserves its colonial houses with big rooms and patios.

CLIMATE
Its always warm, with an average temperature of 25°C, and the minimum temperature gets in between 16°C to 18°C. The best time to visit is May to October.

ACCESS / APPROACH
By Air:
Lima to Chiclayo, and continue to Chachapoyas on Bus.
By Land:
It communicates  by the Pan-American Highway, Lima - Chiclayo - Olmos - Bagua- Chachapoyas or Lima - Pacasmayo - Cajamarca - Celendin - Chachapoyas. Daily departures.
