We lost 1-0. The second and third time was during the 1996 asian cup, the peak of
iranian football's strength.Iran only lost two matches in that tournment, the only
two matches which i attended!! first was the 2-1 defeat by iraq. The game was in dubai
so i drove 2 hours from abudhabi to dubai, only to come back sad and dejected.
The second defeat was the semi-final against Saudi Arabia. We lost on penalties.
The game was held in AbuDhabi. Nearly 15 thousand iranians gathered from all cities
in the UAE. It was very emotional , when ali daei missed the first penalty, the Iranian
side of the stadium was silenced and the arabs where delerious. But right after that
Abedzadeh saved and the saudi jubilation turned to silence and the iranians were
roaring again.But eventually we lost the shootout.
And the most recent time i was in a stadium was right here in vancouver, where persopolis
played a friendly against the Vancouver 86ers and it ended in a 1-1 draw.
My favorite football player is rudi voeller, the former german national team player.
I really like his attitude and personality.
