Big ups and congratulations to local hip-hop maestro King Kapisi who took the coveted Silver Scroll award for songwriting for his latest single Reverse Resistance. Kapisi is the first hip-hop artist to win this award. The award for Most Played Song went, not surprisingly, to The Feelers for Venus.
Congratulations this week also go to local electo-pop-disco outfit Deep Obsession whose One and Only is number one on the New Zealand charts for the second week running! It is the band's third consecutive number one.
Followers of TV4's Ice TV may have noticed something different about The D4's recent perfomance on the show: a new drummer. Previous drummer Rich has left to concentrate on other things (including fellow Frisbee band Shaft) and has been replaced by Paul of local teen-pop-sensations Rubicon. Rubicon's bassist John is also the new bassist for Moss, his predecessor Jared going to 96.1's amateur track competition winners Jester.
Auckland's 95bFM are currently holding their second New Zealand Music Week of the year. To celebrate the event, bFM's Freak The Sheep was broadcast live from the Kings Arms, featuring sets from SJD, The Stereo Bus, The Subliminals and King Kapisi. A moment of drama ensued when one drunk woman in the audience, apparently agrieved at the disappearance of her umbrella on the particularly rainy night, took to the stage, assaulting Subliminals guitarist Simon Maclaren and the roadies attempting to remove her from the stage of the live simulcast performance. The woman was heard to shout "if you're going to steal, steal from the rich" and "bloody university students" at the audience largely comprising students celebrating the end of exams this week.
