He first married Sarah Jane Gordon, marriage place unknown. She is in the 1850 census along with her parents, of Montgomery Co. Arkansas. This is also the county in which Malon signed up for the military during the Civil War. Malon was born about 1842 in SC. and Sarah Jane about 1842 in Clark or Montgomery Co. Ar. We feel that Malon's parents are Morgan & Sarah Rankin's listed in the census of Rabun Co. Ga. in 1850. In 1840 they are listed in Pickens Co. SC. This Sarah born about 1822 in SC. was in the home of Malon and his wife Sarah as per Ar. census. We feel that the John & Mail mentioned in 1850 Rabun Co.Ga. census with Morgan & Sarah RANKINS is Malen RANKINS & Mayal RANKINS of Montgomery Co. Ar. Malen uses initials M.J.S RANKINS very often and in 1900 was listed in the census under John RANKINS. We think Mail & Mayal are phonetically the same. Also in the home with Malon, Sarah and his mother Sarah were siblings of Malon,who were: Mary M. born 1854 Ga. Steven born 1856 Ga. and Creedy born 1857 in Ga.
