John Harris was born about 1815 in Tennessee. This is stated in the 1880 census of Yell Co. Arkansas. He states that his parents were born in South Carolina. The person that John married first is unknown, but the marriage produced a child named John, born about 1854 in Arkansas.In the 1870 census of Lawrence Co. Arkansas, John is listed with wife Elizabeth, his son John Jr. and her two daughters by her first marriage to John Nunnally. Her daughters by John Nunnally were Florence and Nancy Nunnally. He is listed in that census also as a farmer and Justice of the Peace. They lived in Strawberry Township area of Lawrence County Arkansas.
There were other Harris families living in Lawrence Co. at the same time that John and his family resided there, but we can find no connection. We cannot trace John Senior back to any other place of residence before Lawrence County. We have not found a John Harris listed anywhere in Arkansas with a child John at the right aged to be the son of our ancestor, nor have we been able to find a family in the Tennessee census that could be John Harris Senior with his parents, but we hope that through endeavors such as the sharing of this this information, that we can make family connections that will help us in our search for the Harris family's ancestors.
