Finishing up!

Back of angel for finishing details.

Finishing:

Thread the yarn needle with the ribbon. Weave the ribbon in and out of rows 15, 16, and 17, cutting ribbon at the end of each row, then overlapping ends and gluing ends together under the skirt.

With the back of the angel facing you, insert the ribbon-threaded needle down into the last inside chain-3 loop of the right wing, then up through the last inside ch-3 loop of the left wing. Pull the ribbon tight to draw the bottom of the wings together, then tie in a small bow. Trim ribbon.

Tie a bow at the base of the front of the angel’s head. Trim ribbon.

Thread the needle with the fishing line. Insert as for the ribbon that ties the wings together in the loops two up from the wing bow. This will put the angel in a “flying” position when hung. Tie an overhand knot

Push the angel’s head back, push her chest out, and arrange the ruffles on the skirt.

Rose Angels

globug says: ok here goes:

supplies:

silk rose, any color, the rose can be any size you want, according to size rose you use. I usually buy rose bushes if i can find them
wood ball with hole, all the way thru (about an inch)
elastic string to use as hanger
lace, doll hair, and small things to decorate, like ribbon, buttons, ribbon roses, etc.
Will also need ribbon for wings - again size according to rose size.... Stitches says: reg ribbon or wire..... globug says: either one stiches - i have used both....

Instructions

- FIRST you should cut a piece of the string the lenght you want it - you will be doubling it

and will be putting it through the hole in the ball

hot glue ends to bottom on ball

ok - first you pull the rose from the bush, leaving just the end that attached to the bush

NOW, you will put the end of the rose into the hole on top of ball after putting hot glue on it

next, choose lace to coordinate or match rose put around "neck" one time and double that length

gather the lace and leave enough thread to allow you to tie it around the neck of angel tightly - tied end goes in front

ok, if tied tightly enough will not need to glue at all

you can add something to front of lace for decoration, ribbon rose, button, etc

next, glue hair on ball - i use tacky glue for this

I draw closed eyes with tiny lashes on face - usually no mouth,

oh, forgot, using a q-tip, put a little blush on face and blow off excess, I use actual blush - not paint - is softer effect

I use the fine line micropens

last step is to make wings out of coordinating ribbon and glue to back -back and forth to creat wings

I ususally tie with thin gold thread

Doily Angel

This is a project for ages 5 and up - it can be quite simple (just make the top of the angel) or quite complex (make both pieces and decorate elaborately). Doily angels can be Christmas decorations, or like this one, a beautiful Christmas tree topper.

*MATERIALS*

White crocheted doilies - for the full angel you'll need two: 4" and 6" diameter doilies... Rubber band or bread twist tie works... Fabric stiffener or elmers glue... Gold flecked acrylic paint and/or gold glitter... Craft/white glue... Paper plate(s)... Wax paper...

*INSTRUCTIONS*

1.Make a cut in the paper plates, from edge to center. Overlap the edges to make two cones, securing the edges with a stapler. Cover each cone with a plastic sandwich bag.

To make the top angel shape:

2. Pour the fabric stiffener (available at the craft store, or make your own by mixing equal parts warm water and sugar) into a bowl. Dip a small doily into the bowl, saturating it thoroughly. Wring out the excess back into the bowl.

3. Place a cotton ball in the center of the doily. Wrap a rubber band around the doily to secure the cotton ball for the angel's head.

4. Drape the doily over the paper cone. Pull the back of the angel's skirt together (you can hold it in place with a paper clip if you need to). Fold the rest of the material down so that you have two wings spread out at the sides.

5. Lay the angel gently on her back (with the wings spread out) on a piece of wax paper. Leave to dry (24-48 hours).

To make the bottom skirt:

1. Mix a little bit of gold paint or gold glitter with the fabric stiffener in a bowl. Dip the larger doily into the bowl and wring out the excess.

2. Drape over the second cone. Arrange the skirt in nice folds and leave to dry.

When both doilies are dry, glue the angel top to the bottom skirt. Decorate with gold cord, ribbon on the bottom skirt.

For the halo, use a small piece of wired cord, or gold ribbon dipped in fabric stiffener and shaped into a halo.

Glue the halo to the back of the angel between the wings. Our angel shown here is holding a few small gold roses. Her sleeves are actually one piece of gold wired ribbon, glued at the shoulder and bent in the middle.

If you want to just make a simple tree decoration, just follow the instructions for the top of the angel. Attach a piece of string between her wings and hang from your tree.

Wooden Spoon Angels

You need one wooden spoon,
one heart shaped battenburg doilie,
plaid fabric, ribbon and some craft paint

Soapcrazy says: What's battenburg mean?
ShellAngel says: pre made doily from craft store
Busyfingers says: type of lace doilie made with cotton with cutwork

Cut handle off of spoon leaving 2 3/4" inches
Base coat spoon and paint on faces and hair
cut piece of fabric into 2 1/2 " x 6 1/2 "
Fold in half and sew short ends togehter with 1/4 " seam
Turn tube inside out and sew a gathering stitch to make a little sack
You are gathering to make like a sack but not closing end
Slide this around spoon and pull gathers tight around neck of spoon
Make sure your seam is at back
Glue neck of dress to the spoon
Tie a pretty gold ribbon around neck and tie into a bow
You need some gold cording to make halo
Cut about 3 1/4 " cording and form into circle with seam at back of spoon and glue into place
Cut heart shape doily in half
Glue cut edges to back of spoon overlapping about 1 1/2 " with pointed ends down and slightly outward away from body

3 using a commercial fabric stiffener, following manufacter's direction.
This is the most durable method, but remember that it is permanent; it will not wash out.
To stiffen the angels dress, use the following procedure,
Cover ironing board or blocking board, with plastic wrap.
Keeping head dry , immerse dress in stiffening solution and squeeze to remove excess. Blot with paper towel.
With cone on blocking board, place dress over cone and pin edges at regular intervals.
Stuff sleeves with plastic wrap. Let dry before removing pins and plastic wrap.
