ABOUT THE ISLAND

CORTES ISLAND,B.C. CANADA

This gulf island, which is approximately 13000 sq. km. in size, is situated in the northern end of Georgia Strait, adjacent to Vancouver Island.South east of the island lies Middlenatch, a bird sanctuary well known for it's climate, a place where the northern and southern tides meet. To the east lies famous "Desolation Sound",offering some of the best cruising waters in the world.

There is a large public marina on the island, as well as the Canadian, Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and the American, Seattle Yacht Club.In the summer months there are direct daily flights to and from Vancouver and Seattle. B.C. Ferries makes 6 round trip sailings daily throughout the year.

Three major restaurants, resorts, three grocery stores, and two community halls are in operation ,as well a public school , private school, and holistic learning center.There is a resident doctor, an ambulance service,and two fire halls.

The island roads are very condusive to cycling and there are numerous hiking trails. Beautiful lakes sandy beaches, and lagoons are great for swimming and beachcombing.

As an environmentally sensitive island, there is a deep abiding love for animals and nature that make it different from most.There is no pollution and no crime.

Cortes Island is home to a wide variety of people,which is why it has developed a distinct characteristic and culture that can satisfy any desired lifestyle.
