Crack Installation Notes

Since ArcInfo won't accept uncounted (non server bound) licenses, it is neccessary to use the server even if you plan to use the application on a single computer; actually it accepts the licenses, but crash. Also, since the original vendor daemon (ESRI.exe, the license server) demands a hardware key (a Sentinel Dongle), it is neccessary to replace it too. Now, this isn't bad at all, and in fact if you're going to use ArcInfo on several workstations in a networked environment, you will only need to run the server on a single computer (unless you want to run it locally, that is).

The license file will serve any node, and each feature has up to 100.000.000 licenses - you won't need more. ;-)

You should follow these steps for a successful installation:

1) After installation, locate the vendor daemon (ESRI.exe). It gets installed by default in "%SystemDrive%\Program Files\ESRI\License". Once you've found it, overwrite it and the other exe:s with the files found in the crack-dir.

2) Run "License Manager Tools" (either by running it from the Start Menu, or by executing LMTOOLS.EXE in the directory above).

3) On the first tab page, select "Configuration using Services" and "ESRI License Manager" if you have more than one vendor daemon installed.

4) Go to the "Configure Services" tab and select "ESRI License Manager" as Service Name. Then make sure all fields are correct, like in this example:

F:\arcexe80\sysgen\license.dat <--- the license file can be placed anywhere you want
F:\arcexe80\sysgen\license.log <--- a log with information and errors

5) Make sure you ReRead the license file on the Start/Stop/ReRead
dialog. You may also have to start the service first, if it isn't running already.

6) You should be able to test if the license can be used from within LMTOOLS:

For more in-depth information on how to setup the license server, please read "License_Managers_Guide.pdf" found in the Documentation dir on the installation CD.
