PINAY BIO

...& who is PINAY? Maylene, Loredie, Angelica, Irma representing Bay Area talent. Talent is only the beginning when it comes to describing PINAY. How about BRAINS? BEAUTY? SULTRY?
Singing together since the early '90's at local UC Berkeley events, the original Pinay Divas began a group that will soon become Classified Records number one R&B artists and one of the world's most successful female filipina bands with two Billboard Chart hits and an album under their belts. You might like to think it was easy for Pinay to obtain all this success and fame but read on. Each member of Pinay graduated from college with college degrees. Gel works in real estate, Irma recently graduated from law school in Seattle, Loredie is a registered nurse, and May works and teaches at UC Berkeley focusing on molecular cell biology. Pretty impressive, huh? Time is very valuable for this fabulous foursome who has been compared to groups like En Vogue and the Pointer Sisters. On top of their singing career, these four have 40 plus hour jobs a week to also focus on. How do they do it? Well, let's start with Classified Records. Shortly after the Pinay Divas was formed, Classified Records approached this group and offerred them a record contract. After juggling their careers and their music, Pinay eventually signed knowing they were gonna sacrifice a lot of their time. But as Loredie said in an interview "it's a balance and we are so lucky to have friends, family..we couldn't do it without their support."
IS IT REAL was Pinay's first single which peaked on Billboards Maxi-Single Chart even before their debut album was released. Is It Real introduced a new style of music which Pinay helped make popular on radio stations across the country..rhythmic soul. It's a mixture of dance and R & B. During this time, Pinay was touring extensively to promote their new single by the new diva group coming from Classified Records. Pinay has proudly shared the stage with top names from the music industry including 702, Rodney O, Lil' Suzy, Angelina, Jocelyn Enriquez (former label mate), Kai, and even presented an award to Tia Carrera.
Pinay's debut album INEVITABLE was released in 1997 and their career started skyrocketing. Pinay then began performing more then ever and fans all over the country were demanding a new single from that album. NEXT TIME, originally a ballad, was remixed and released as a single which also peeked on the Billboard Charts. Pinay's success has taken them to the Philippines (they are their now, as i write this)...sharing their talents to the people back home.
Pinay says no matter how successful they get, one thing is inevitable..."we'll alwayz be friends" says Irma. Personally, i have to agree. Being in a group is nothing but a lot of work and I've never seen a group like Pinay who get a long so well, sing so good, and share so much amongst themselves and to their fans. After Pinay wraps up their Philippines tour, they plan to come back to the Bay Area and there's talk of early stages of recording new material. Most recently released is the track TOGETHER AS ONE featuring R&B trio INNERLUDE. Check it out on Serenade Vol. 2
