Mastroberte, 46, originally of Garfield, New Jersey moved to Scotrun, PA in 1986. She is a graduate of Englewood Nursing School, Englewood, New Jersey and is currently employed as a nursing supervisor at Pleasant Valley Manor in Syndersville. She is the wife of former Pocono talk show host Ray Masters Mastroberte and the mother of two children, David, 15 and Lisa, 10. She has also been an instructor at the Monroe County Vocational School in Bartonsville training future LPNs.
"I decided to run for State Representative after watching a floor debate on PCN television about HMO reform," said Mastroberte. "I have seen and experienced first-hand, the heavy hand of government upon my profession. Our politicians want me to become more of a paper-pusher and a report producer, not a compassionate care-giver. Our eroding rights in the health care system has compelled me into action."
"Secondly, Mr. Battisto would have ran unopposed. This is simply un-American," said Mastroberte. The members of the Libertarian Party of Monroe County procured over 500 signatures to qualify Mastroberte for the ballot. A minimum of 300 was required. "I wish to thank all of the thoughtful registered voters who took time to sign the nomination paper. Without them, this would not be possible."
The campaign will take on a high-tech nature on the world wide web. Surfers will get to see an on-line platform, biographical information, a weekly opinion poll, links, or leave messages for the candidate. "For the modern political campaign, a presence on the web is just as vital as handing out literature and bumper stickers." The Pocono Libertarians will be sponsoring a Libertarian candidates night on Tuesday, August 18, 7:00pm at the Tannersville Inn, in Tannersville. Appearing with Mastroberte will be Ken Krawchuk, Libertarian Party candidate for Governor for the state of Pennsylvania. It will be a unique opportunity for the public to ask questions of the nominees and about their vision for the future. This event is free and open to the general public.
