STATE HOUSE CANDIDATE COMMENTS ON PRESIDENT'S VIDEO TESTIMONY
POCONO TOWNSHIP, PA - Today's video testimony by President Clinton broadcast nationally before Ken Starr's grand jury may demonstrate the reason why Americans are becoming more and more cynical over government and politicians.
The President was asked to "bear all" before the American people and the world about his private behavior with White House intern, Monica Lewinsky.
"When I watched the testimony on TV, I was quite embarrassed over President
Clinton's answers to the grand jury. The legal hair splitting over
definitions was an insult to the intelligence of the American
public," said Gail Mastroberte, Libertarian Candidate for State Representative
in the 189th District-Monroe County.
Mastroberte questioned President Clinton's statement about how his political enemies want to "criminalize my private life." She went on to list the ways in which American's privacy is being invaded by what she called "big brother in Washington."
"Let's be clear; everyday, millions of Americans private lives are being invaded by the president. This is the same president who proposed a clipper chip in every phone, modem and fax; who wanted to censor the internet; who had FBI files on congressmen; proposed national identification cards for all citizens; and IRS enforcement tactics on innocent taxpayers; signed the bill re-authorizing the Independent Counsel Statute; and a ban on any hint of sexuality in the workplace."
"He is the same president who wants to criminalize the perscription of medicinal marijuana for glaucoma patients, or those who suffer from AIDS, MS, cancer, or the effects of radiation or chemo-therapy, and in turn compromising and destroying the patient/doctor relationship."
"While the president testified that he values his and his family's privacy, he does not equally respect yours or mine."
The Pocono Township nurse and mother of two children commented on remarks
made by other politicians, talk show hosts and spin-doctors. "I reject
the notion that one can be attracted to the opposite sex to the point that
one cannot control themselves," said Mastroberte. "Taking
personal responsibility over one's own actions is the sign of maturity.
Americans should expect anyone holding the highest office of the land,
not to mention a world leader, to have a moral and mature character.
As a mother, it is important to teach children to take personal responsibility
for their actions."
President Clinton's video-taped testimony of August 17 was aired today by all the major networks and over the internet. It contained sexually explicit material that was not suitable for all audiences.
There are 22 Libertarian candidate running throughout the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania. Currently there are 42 elected or appointed Libertarians
holding public office in the state. This is the second
time a Libertarian has run for state representative in the 189th District,
which consist of the boroughs of Delaware Water Gap, East Stroudsburg,
Mount Pocono and Stroudsburg, in addition to the townships of Hamilton,
Jackson, Middle Smithfield, Paradise, Pocono, Smithfield, Stroud.
