Born on
August 7, 1975 in Benoni, South Africa.
Charlize Theron pronounced Sharleez-Te
ron was raised on a farm as an only
child. Her father Charles died when she
was 15. Her mother, Gerda, took over the
family's road construction business.
Charlize now lives in Hollywood with her
two cocker spaniels, Delilah and Denver.
She
attended boarding school in South
Africa's biggest city, Johannesburg. She
studied with the Joffrey Ballet in New
York until a knee injury derailed her
plans to be a dancer.
Charlize
started modeling as a teen but hated the
pressure to be thin. When she arrived in
Los Angeles virtually broke, she threw a
tantrum when a bank wouldn't cash her
out-of-state checks. Lucky for her, a
talent agent behind her took notice and
signed her up. She lost her accent by
watching tons of TV.
She is
currently dating Stephan Jenkins of the
band Third Eye Blind. She previously
dated actor Craig Beirko from 1996 until
1998.
