The Prayer

The Prayer

When I was a Young Girl
I had lost my way...
Searching for some peace inside
Forgetting how to pray.

As I walked inside the church.
Candlelight the only glow...
I found a pew and quietly knelt
Feeling so alone.

My mind was surely racing
My focus scattered and dim...
My heart was tight within my chest
My soul was filled with sin.

Then inside my head
A prayer took form ,
It escaped slowly from my lips...
With tears in my eyes and so forlorn
I began to mutter this :

Father , I am not worthy
To come into your house...
I've lost my way and I'm frightened
To Pray , I have forgotten how.

I know that If You say the words
My soul will soon be healed...
And once I am  forgiven
I can begin to feel.

Through my tears I gazed up
At My Lord Upon the cross...
With A warmth I've never felt before
I was no longer lost.

The tears they dried upon my face
A smile filled my heart...
Alone in a pew, in a candle lit church
To the Lord My soul did impart.

Lord I was not worthy
To come into Your home...
You said the words, and My soul was healed.
With You I am never alone.
