The Old Mans Joke
This old man tried hard a joke to tell,
As he stuttered and stammered, not doing so well.
Nervously he said, "It really is funny, just wait and
see."
But something was wrong it seemed to me,
Beginning again, he looked at the sky, then at his feet
Not knowing quite what he should do.
He hemmed and he hawed as he tried to remember,
It seemed to take from June to December.
He giggled and wriggled and started again,
Would he ever finish I wondered, and when?
Then looking at me strangely, he thought and he thought,
Well, what do you know, he had completely forgot!
